Library Love Notes #2

Loving the First Edition

Rate this book
Kinslee never planned to return to Beaver Creek. Matthew has no plans to let her go again.

For Kinslee Wilson, heart break and humiliation led her to leave the only home she'd ever known when she was nineteen. Moving back had never been a part of her plan, but when Grace, her grandmother and the woman who raised her, calls and asks her to come back and run her new cafe location, Kinslee drops everything and makes the move back to the town full of ghosts from her past.

Matthew Miller had lived the single life for years, focusing on his love of working with his hands as a contractor and his family. When he was approached by Grace Wilson, the grandmother of the woman who had her heart broken by his son a decade ago, he couldn't say no.

What neither Matthew nor Kinslee expected to happen was for sparks to fly when they were thrust upon one another by the very woman who'd called on each of them. Will she be able to thrive alongside him for the sake of her grandmother? Or will her past come back to claim her future?

Loving the First Edition is a part of the Library Love Notes series, a series of open-door, small-town romances set in the fictional cozy town of Beaver Creek, Ontario.

This book was so fricken adorable 🥹🥹🥹When I read that is was her ex’s dad I thought it would be icky. NOPE!!!! Boy was I wrong, and I’m so glad I was otherwise I would have missed the story of Matthew and Kinsley. And also a great palette cleanser for all the things I read 😬 looking for a cute read, here ya go!

Takes place in a small town called Beaver Creek that’s so small, where everyone knows everybody! Kinsley had practically fled 10 years ago as her Ex had broke her heart but one call from her Grandma and here she is to face her past.

Matthew is YUM. Not only is he a good looking fella but he has a heart of gold which makes him a million times more attractive. Even though he wasn’t the one who turned her life upside down, he always felt like he was partly responsible for Kinsley leaving.

A lot of what if’s have been on his mind but suddenly she’s back and he knows now it’s his chance. Without knowing it, Grandma knows all. And with her perfect plan coming to light, they’re reunited again. There we see Kinsley slowly coming back and putting the past behind her. And see Matthew do anything to put a smile on her face, but who knew they were each other’s dream.

Their romance happened organically and not rushed for a short book! I felt like each stage was represented perfectly and had just the right amount of yearning but also the healing aspect for Kinsley too because without closure, she would have never been able to move on.

Thank you Shelby Rae for providing an eARC for review! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

First, let me start by saying I read this in a single sitting. Love that! Because not all the tropes were to my taste, I'm going to use the CAWPILE review method to ensure this rating and review is as fair as possible and not too heavily biased.

A note on the tropes: This romance-- although NOT a dark romance (it's actually really light and fluffy and Hallmarky)-- may be taboo for some readers.
About the age gap and the fact the MMC is the FMC's ex boyfriend' father. This is stated in the blurb but it's confusing, "When he was approached by Grace Wilson, the grandmother of the woman who had her heart broken by his son a decade ago, he couldn't say no."
About the security cameras:

Characters: Character growth, development, memorability
FMC Kinslee sees a little growth over the course of the book, but a lot of it happens off-page. MMC Matthew doesn't do much growing or developing, but he is sweet and simps for his woman (and I do love a man who simps).
Score: 6/10

Atmosphere: Immersion and world-building
I love a small town setting. This, for me, worked really well. The town felt reasonably sized: not so tiny you can walk the whole thing, you do need a car. And not so tiny there's only one bakery in town. But small enough that cafe and library regulars know each other, that there's some gossip that can spread. The book mentioned the population of the town was about 10,000, and that feels about right for the size described. The book also takes place during winter, and the descriptions of snow and ice, heated garages and hot cocoa, felt nice and cozy as I read this during May, in Texas, when it was nearly 90 degrees out.
Score: 8/10

Writing: Writing style and prose quality
This was my first book by Shelby Rae. She's a good writer, and contemporary romance is her jam. Nothing struck me as extraordinary, but the pacing was good, writing was easy to follow, and this was an easy read. There were a few errors but this is an indie book and I do not detract from my score for errors if they are not egregious. There was one instance of "this" instead of "his", and "timber" (wood) instead of "timbre"(voice). To me, this is within the realm of acceptability, and may even be resolved by the time the book publishes. It does not impact the score I'm giving for this category.
Score: 7/10

Plot: Story structure and pacing
Loving the First Edition is a moderate-to-fast pace, with a handful of time skips. Occasionally the timeline was a bit unclear for me, but it didn't really detract from my enjoyment. The story structure was definitely Hallmarky, but I like that, when I'm in the mood for it. The story never lagged at any point, but I do wish a few parts had been detailed out a bit more,
Score: 7/10

Intrigue: Engagement and page-turning quality
Ten outta ten. I devoured it in one sitting. This is one of the metrics where I get to be biased, so I'm being biased. No further notes.
Score: 10/10

Logic: Internal consistency and coherence
I mentioned, behind spoiler tags, a few things I felt needed a little more fleshing out to really work in this story. I won't reshash it here, but because of that...
Score: 7/10

Enjoyment: Overall satisfaction
This is the other metric I get to be biased. I enjoyed this, a lot. It's not perfect but it's a fun and easy read and I love me a good interconnected standalone. This book did its job: It entertained, and introduced me to a new author I wouldn't mind reading more of!
Score: 9/10

Overall score: 54/70 = 7.7 = 3.5 rounded up to 4

I received this book as an arc and I don’t even know how to respond other than squealing with joy. I quite literally couldn’t put it down!

The entire storyline of Kins coming back to assist with her grandmas bakery upgrades only to meet the hunk of a man Matthew again? Ugh my heart!

AND he stands up for her against his own son/her ex!? Sign me up baby.

This book was an absolutely amazing read!

I flew through this book! This was my first time reading the trope of ex’s dad. This has truthfully been one of the tropes I have avoided in the past. I thought the author did a great job of taking the possible negative connotations away though. This is a love story about two people who genuinely care for each other so don’t let that scare you away from reading. The cast of characters in this story are amazing, the protective and caring male lead, the sassy female lead, and the all knowing grandma make a wonderful combo. In my opinion the characters grow and face their challenges in a refreshing straight forward way which had me rooting for them. Although this is not a very long book there was the perfect amount of information. The characters have a past that was explained when needed, there is enough of their present to watch them fall in love, and the ending gave a beautiful glimpse into the future. Overall this was a fun read and I would recommend it! Loving the First Edition is the second book in the Library Love Notes series. Each book is written by a different Canadian Indie author and set in the fictional town of Beaver Creek, Ontario.

Loving the First Edition is an age gap, small town romance featuring Kinslee Scarlett Wilson and Matthew Miller. It is also part of the Library Love Notes series, a series of open-door, small-town romances set in the fictional cozy town of Beaver Creek, Ontario.

Kinslee left home when she was 19 after having her heart broken by then boyfriend, Ryan Miller. He was her first love but she caught him cheating on her with her friend. She spent a few years away during which she went to culinary school. She returns back to her hometown of Beaver Creek to help her 71 year old grandmother Grace, the woman who raised her, with her bakery business.

Matthew is Ryan's father. He is now a grandfather to a delightful little girl named Abby. When he bumps into Kinslee after years of not seeing her, he realizes that his attraction to her never faded. He loves her sass. He is 15 years older than her, but he is now 44 and a romance between them would be more acceptable.

Grace hired Matthew as a contractor to work on her new location. As Kinslee is involved in all the decisions, the two end up spending more time together, and their connection grows. This is their love story.

This was a fun read. I wasn't sure about Kinslee connecting her her ex's father, but it worked. Matthew has a heart of gold and has a great deal of respect and appreciation for Kinslee. He's also protective and possessive, in a good way. I liked the chemistry between the two characters and how they were able to move past Kinslee's tainted history with his son. I also enjoyed the author's writing style. It was easy to fall into the story and I remained engaged throughout.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loving The First Edition (Book #2)

Beaver Creek is a small, "fictional" Ontario town. If you have ever been to a small town in Ontario, you know the only thing fictional about Beaver Creek is its name. It has that cozy, comfortable, everyone-is-ready-to-help type of vibe.

While a "first edition" is usually a sought-after book for collectors, for Kinslee, The First Edition is her ex-boyfriend’s father.

Kinslee got away from Beaver Creek as soon as possible after catching her best friend with her boyfriend. However, she can’t say no to her Gran, Grace, who needs her granddaughter to return to town to help open a second bakery location. It doesn’t take long for the past to find her in the form of Matthew Miller—the cheater’s father, the new contractor Gran hired to fix up the building, and now someone Kinslee can’t seem to distance herself from.

This is a fantastic standalone in The Library Love Notes series. The series has not disappointed so far, and I can't help but keep "gnawing 🦫" through them!

Kinslee is back in Beaver Creek after a decade of running from humiliation. With help from her meddlesome Gran, Kinslee is forced to face her past (and potentially her future if things go well cause we know this is a romance) in the form of her ex's dad at every turn. But Matthew has already learned what life is like without Kinslee around and he's not about to risk it happening again so he's willing to play the long game and give her a reason to stay in Beaver Creek.

Oh hot dang! Secondhand awkwardness had me going hard with this one but Matthew and Kinslee were cute enough to make me forget the complications most of the time. I would have loved a bigger smackdown of some of the characters but also totally loved what they got because holy mothertrucker were bad decisions made. But also, if things had gone differently, they wouldn't be in this position together and that would be a much bigger travesty.

Tropes:
🧁Age Gap
🤎Ex’s Dad
🧁Second Chance
🤎Single Dad
🧁Hurt/Comfort

Once you read this book you’ll totally understand the reasoning behind the title, I definitely loved Matthew too. The “second edition” is a piece of work, like boy byeeee. Don’t even get me started on his significant other. However I adored their daughter Abby. She added so much extra joy to this story, and helped bring our main characters together, along with Gran in a way.

This small town romance continues in Beaver Creek where you’ll journey through how Matthew and Kinslee came to be. I’m a sucker for a well written age gap couple, which in my opinion was spot on. It didn’t give me the ick one bit. The characters were so respectful towards one another, and their banter was so fun. Their story was overall swoon worthy, and the spice had my jaw on the ground along with my eyes WIDE OPEN. I can’t wait to continue the series.

Thank you to the author for sharing an ARC copy of this book with me, what a lovely cozy romance this was.

This is a second chance, age gap, small town romance, where the MMC is the FMC’ ex’s dad 🫠

I have to admit I am not a massive fan of the age gap trope, while this story is made in such a way where I really routed for this couple from the get go💕

Matthew is such a sweetheart, and I loved how he is not afraid to stand up for his girl.

Also ALL the characters develop in their own way, both the main characters, as well as the famed ex..I found this quite refreshing, as I do love a bad guy redemption story

This book is part of a series all based in the same town, while each book is made by a different author.
This was my first book of the group, and it so makes me want to read the others in the series!

Kinslee, why moving back?
Oh snap!! Ryan 🤬
Way to go Gran 👶
Matchmaking with mystery investor???
Kinslee - 3 years = ex ?
Kinslee + 15 years = Matthew
Papa??

Is he the investor?
Oohhhhh
Melted cheese curds 😂
Peanut butter hot chocolate sounded interesting. I needed to review some recipes for it.
🤮
Truth 💣 Matthew
Ryan you are still a butthead!
Wait, weren't they married? Or was it just high school dating??
The bakery actually has a door connecting it to the library! That's better than a Starbucks inside a bookstore in my opinion.

This book is a novella in the seven book "Library Love Notes" series, a cleverly conceived series of stories that revolve around a small town library. Quick aside: the title is just perfect! In this story, Kinslee (unusual name!) returns home to Beaver Creek to help her grandmother expand her bakery business. Like any small town, her high school heartbreak Ryan still lives there, married to the woman that caused the breakup. Also still living there is Ryan's father Matthew, and it doesn't take long for Kinslee to realize the chemistry she felt for him at age nineteen is still there. I always appreciate an "is she meddling or not?" grandma, and Kinslee's grandma Grace brings that kind of fun energy to the story. I had a bit of trouble with the whole age gap thing, though love is love after all. This novella's worth of pages includes a bit of spice and some emotional upheaval, and Ms. Rae brings it all to these relatively few pages; just right for a lazy afternoon read.
I was given an ARC and volunteered to write a review.

This book was so heartwarming. I enjoyed every bit of reading it. Matthew and Kinslee are so perfect together. They fit each other well. This is my first ex's dad trope book that I've read and I absolutely love it. I'll definitely will be reading more books by Shelby in the future. I was happy with the outcome of Kinslee processing her feelings and finally letting go of the past so she can move forward happily in the future.

Phenomenal story of showing up for love. Matthew liked Kinslee ten years ago before she left town and now she’s back and he plans on making her stay forever. With him. I just love how Matthew shows up day after day to help Kinslee get her dream started, while just being with Kinslee IS Matthew’s dream.

Thank you to Shelby Rae for the advanced reader copy of Love the First Edition, I absolutely love Shelby’s books and was excited to see this collaboration for the Beaver Creek series.

This is a great, quick read. I really enjoyed this book, though I’m not a massive fan of the age gap trope, this one was done so well. We seen an amazing example of what we want to see from our MMC and we seen some great growth from the FMC, returning to her home town after many years away and facing the trauma that made her leave in the first place.

This book was written so well and I look forward to reading more from the Beaver Creek series.

Age gap romance that has small town vibes & baked goods. Is a hot DILF/MMC that yearns hard, a baked good? YES, yes it is 😉 Nom nom nom! A messy break up and a complicated love interest that can not be passed up.....

Loving the First Edition’ is part of the Library Love Notes Series. Each book is a stand alone that all come back to Beaver Creek’s local library - “All 7 stories take place in our small town and all feature some connection to the local library. Because what better place to find love than a place of community and connection!”. Each book is written by a different author, they bring their stories to the same town and create something quite magical I say. What a beautiful concept!

Kinslee leaves her hometown to venture away from a messy break up that leaves her humiliated,. Many years later her grandmother asks her to come back to help set up the new cafe, and Kinslee can’t say no to the woman who raised her.

I adore the yearning, the romantic pairing, and the nostalgic vibes in ‘Loving the First Edition’. I can’t get enough of the beautiful pair. I love how they come together. It’s satisfying to see the Characters know what they want and fight for it.

I love Kinslee! How she finds something she wants and stands her ground to get it. From their cute bantering to their steamy moments- they are a slow burn romance with a very satisfying ending. And Matthew, how he yearns! The texts, the nicknames, and the attentive care from Matthew make me swoon for him. Well done! 😊👌🏻

love that this story resides in Ontario! It’s nostalgic to know that these romantic stories exist right outside my front door. IT’S MAGICAL & heart-warming. It makes my heart beam.

Are you looking for a cozy read that is sweet, messy and features BAKED GOODS that yearns? Check out 'Loving the First Edition'.

Thank you to the Author Shelby Rae for sharing her story with me. Thank you for the ARC.

Oooh, what a pleasure to read this book was! I was hooked right from the start, given that it's my first time reading a book with the ex's dad trope. I always worried that I'd find that trope cringey - is it really possible to fall for your ex's father? Well it turns out that a gifted author can certainly weave a beautiful story where a woman can indeed fall for her ex's dad and the reader can see how perfectly right it can be. Ms. Shelby achieved just that in this book.

I also liked that despite the age-gap of fifteen years between the main characters, it didn't bother me at all given both were definitely in a mature age already that the gap seemed irrelevant. Their personalities likewise reflected that maturity: I loved how committed both Matthew and Kinslee became to each other once they acknowledged their feelings for one another. They stood by each other and proved they were willing to go the distance in spite of their worries about how her ex and his son might react to their relationship. I loved how Matthew never wavered in his loyalty to Kinslee, going all out to protect her against his own son. And I loved Kinslee's inner strength that allowed her to deal with her past heartbreak so that she can face her present finally healed.

This was my first taste of the love stories coming out of Beaver Creek, Ontario. I know there are more heartwarming stories to come from this fictional town, and I can't wait to dive into them. I'm thankful to have received an advanced and free review copy of this book. I am offering this review voluntarily.

What a lovely story. Complicated but still lovely.

Coming home after such a long time and after that betrayal must’ve been hard for Kinslee but when her grandma calls she returns home.

She left her small town after school had finished and after her ex, Ryan, had cheated on her. Now she’s back to run her grandmas newest venture a second bakery location.

What she didn’t expect was to have Ryan’s dad Matthew, be the project manager for the bakery. What a nightmare! She has to relive her heartbreak again by working with him.

But the more they work together the more she realises that old feelings are coming back from the past. Feelings that may harm her and his family once Ryan finds out she’s back in town.

This was a book that made you believe in love again. It also taught you that love can definitely happen when you least expect it and age is nothing but a number when you find your person.

I loved the dynamic between Matthew and Kinslee. Through completing this project they opened up and grew closer. He saw the hurt in her and the conflict she faced being near him. She saw that he was hurt too. They both saw each others loneliness.

Grace, Kinslee’s grandma was a lovely character and I loved that she knew well enough to meddle but not so much that it would push too far. So sweet.

The story flowed well and the conflict, while we knew it was coming, was an interesting dynamic to play out.
The resolution was heart warming and I was glad it ended the way it did.

A lovely addition to the Library Love Notes Collection.

I really wanted to love this one. I love an age gap, and especially an ex's dad romance, but this one gave a huge ick once I did the math.

We're told she's been gone for ten years, there's a 15 year age gap, and he's 44. So she's 29. She would have been 19 when she left, and she dated her ex (who was three years younger than her) for three years. That means the dad, Matthew, knew her from 16-19 years old, while he was 31-34 during that time.

The intense ick I got from him reminiscing about how beautiful she always was, how she's filled out now, how she's his Sunshine and always has been, etc. It's giving groomer in every way. She was a TEENAGE CHILD.

Add on his oddly clingy, needy and controlling actions in current day and I was wholly cringing the entire time as he loudly pushed out red flag after red flag. He's glowing over a 29 year old taking care of him, and reminiscing how she's the last person who's done so with her - even when she was a teenager, and I felt ill. It felt very manipulative and gross knowing he knew her as a child and was fondly thinking back on it. From there it turns physical and I just wanted to tell her to run away as fast as possible 😬

Overall, I can't do a sweet romance with an age gap where the man also knew and interacted with the woman as a child. It will never not make me ill.

I really wanted to like this one. I did. It's short, it's got its sweet moments, and there are glimpses of something genuinely charming trying to claw its way to the surface... and then the ick sets in and it doesn't really leave.

Look, I'm not automatically opposed to an age gap romance. Fifteen years? Fine. People are adults, hearts are chaotic, we move on. BUT. Matthew, knowing Kinslee from when she was dating his son - and the timeline on that is doing me absolutely no favours - is the kind of background detail that lodges itself in your brain and refuses to budge. I kept trying to shake it off. Really, I tried, but I could not.

The banter during the café redecorating is cute enough in theory... but then we've got Matthew installing cameras and watching her every move, and even with the "it's for her safety" framing, it tips quite quickly into something that made me deeply uncomfortable rather than swoony. The road from protective to unsettling is shorter than this book seems to realise.

I think with a different shared history - one that didn't involve her having had feelings for him as a teenager while dating his son - this could've been a perfectly enjoyable quick romance. The bones are there. But I couldn't get past the foundation, and that coloured everything else for me.
Conflicted doesn't even cover it, honestly.

Loving the First Edition, book one of the Library Love Notes series by Shelby Rae, is an open-door, age-gap, small-town romance set in the cozy town of Beaver Creek, Ontario.

The book follows Kinslee Wilson as she returns to her hometown, navigating past heartbreak and the unexpected discovery of new love. After leaving over a decade ago due to a painful betrayal by her high school sweetheart, Ryan, she returns to help her grandmother, Grace, manage a growing cafe business. Unable to outrun the memories she tried so hard to forget, she is now forced to process the trauma in order to help with setting up a new cafe location and working with a local contractor, Matthew Miller - Ryan’s dad.

Matthew is no stranger to Kinslee. She has always shared a long-standing connection, unspoken attraction, and mutual respect with him. There is immediate, palpable tension. Through acts of kindness and attentiveness, their professional relationships shift toward something more intimate. Matthew provides a sense of security and genuine companionship. Of course, there is friction when Ryan and his horrible wife, Sierra, are reintroduced.

I am a sucker for an age gap, but add in ex’s dad… It’s an immediate yes. Each book in this series is written by a different author, showcasing different characters and relationships.

Thanks to Shelby Rae for gifting me an eARC of Loving the First Edition. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the second book in the Library Love Notes series. However, you do not need to have read the first to read this one.

I would give this book a 3/3.5.

It was a nice easy read that I finished in a day. However, the age gap and nick names just were not for me. The love story in itself was nice and it is a good one for when you want to read something quick or take a break from a heavier read. It was also written well. I do think that if an age gap trope works for you then it is definitely worth the read.

The fact that Matthew and Kinsley have known each other since she was 16 and always had a thing for eachother just did not sit right with me.

Also, Matthew’s nickname for her is Sunshine which I just think reiterates the age gap even more.

I’ve also read a few books recently where there is constant reference to the female giving ‘sass’ and I find it a bit cringey.

I will say though despite the age gap parts being a bit icky, the intimate scenes were not weird or uncomfortable to read. Their general dynamic was the weirder part for me.

I felt the ending was a bit rushed with there not really being a resolve between the last chapter and then the epilogue which is like 2 years later.

Overall it was not a bad read, I think it is just my personal preference than an age gap trope just isn’t for me.

I received this as an Advanced Reader Copy so thank you Shelby Rae for giving me the opportunity to read it.

Loved this look into beaver creek. We meet Kinsey who is returning to help out her gran after leaving town ten years ago following a bad break up where her ex cheated on her and embarrassed her. Gran has her handling the new renovations for the new bakery and who shows up but Matthew her ex’s dad who was always a bit more attentive and saw her. The feelings of longing and tension are there after a run in at the library where Matthew was there with his granddaughter who happens to look just like the girl his ex was cheating on her with. The tension builds over chapters once they spend time working on the new bakery. They both realize they have feelings and Kinsley takes care of Matthew when he is sick, dropping off a care package. They are hot and heavy for a minute but the reality eventually drops and the son Ryan runs into Kinsley at the new bakery and he had no idea she was in town. This brings up old feelings and unhealed traumas for everyone. Kinsley dealt with it in a healthy way and had words with the couple eventually. Ryan eventually finds out about the couple when he lets himself into his dads house uninvited. This comes to blows, eventually leading them after some time to cool off figuring a way forward. The book was quick read and I couldn’t put it down.

A fun age gap baking romance.

Kinslee Wilson is back in Beaver Creek after ten years. She had fled because her heart was broken, but now she's back to help her grandmother with a new cafe location. Matthew Miller, the father of Kinslee's ex-boyfriend is the contractor getting the cafe ready to go. As they spend time together, sparks will fly.

This story is definitely cute and cozy (with some spice) and I love getting another chance to be in Beaver Creek. Kinslee's grandmother is meddling and so loving. Also, all the baked goods sound amazing.

I think the biggest drawback for me was the pacing. The first half of the book is all about Kinslee and Matthew getting to know one another again. But the second half has to quickly push through everything relationship-wise. I wish we had even just a few more pages (I completely understand that this is a novella, but even 30-40 more pages would make a big difference).

Overall, if you enjoy insta-love type, age gap stories, definitely give this one a read! It's a fun, cozy, small town romance that will make you want to have a cup of hot chocolate and a donut.

Thank you to the author for providing an advanced copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.

I fel in love with this book. And could not put it away.
It is a cozy read, with a little bit of spice in it.
You see the FMC grow. From a women who could not leave her past behind. When she comes back. To help her Gran out in the bakery. And to take it over.
To the women, who falls in love. Confronting her past and dealing with it. With the help, from the people she loves. To a strong women.
I fell in love with the MMC. Who fell in love with the FMC. Even when he is fifteen years older.
Who supports her. And helps her deal with the past. And stands up for her.
Even when it could give him complications.
You can feel the love between them.

Loving the First Edition by Shelby Rae is a sweet, emotional small-town romance that brings together second chances, complicated history, and undeniable chemistry. Kinslee returns to Beaver Creek after ten years away, only to find herself working closely with Matthew—the contractor helping her grandmother and the father of her ex.
The setup alone creates instant tension, and the emotional stakes are well done. Kinslee’s past heartbreak gives her depth, while Matthew’s quiet confidence and steady presence make him an easy character to root for. Their connection builds naturally, filled with longing, hesitation, and moments that feel genuinely heartfelt.
I especially enjoyed the small-town atmosphere and the familiar community ties that make Beaver Creek feel warm and lived-in. The age gap and “off-limits” dynamic add extra spice without overpowering the romance, and their chemistry is both tender and swoony.
At times, the pacing leans a little predictable, and some emotional beats could have been stretched further, but overall this is a satisfying, comforting romance with plenty of heart.
A lovely return-to-home story with a forbidden twist and a well-earned happily-ever-after.

I truly love a good age-gap romance especially when it involves the ex’s dad trope and this one definitely delivered.

Kinslee left Beaver Creek for ten years after discovering her boyfriend was cheating on her. When she finally returns home to help her grandma open a new bakery, she’s hoping for a fresh start… but she doesn’t expect Matthew her ex’s dad to be the contractor renovating the building.

The initial shock between them is intense and honestly a bit overwhelming for Kinslee, but as the story unfolds, her confidence starts to come back. I really enjoyed the banter between them it brought so much life and energy to their dynamic.

As Kinslee spends more time helping with the renovation (and outside of it), Matthew begins to realise that she’s been one of the only people who has ever truly looked out for him. Their connection grows in a way that feels natural and emotional.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read, and I’d definitely recommend it especially if you love age-gap romance with a little bit of tension and heart. 💛

Rcvd an ARC from the author.

What a cute age-gap story.

We meet Kinslee who is back in her hometown to help her Gran with a new bakery. She hasn't been back in 10 years since her bf was cheating on her for a whole year. We then meet Matthew, contractor for Grans new bakery, who happens to be tbe father of Kinslees ex. Kinslee knows she will run into Ryan at some pt but doesn't count on seeing Matthew right off the hop with a little girl who looks like her ex. She always like Matthew more than she should. He always saw her and paid attention to her eventho he's 15 yrs older. Matthew is shocked to see Kinslee back and even more shocked when he sees her at the bakery and delivering her usual sass. He always liked her and he knows he shouldn't be lusting after his sons ex gf but damn he came help himself. The more time the two of them spend together thr more Kinsless heart shows and Matthew will stop at nothing to get thr girl

This novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, small town, contemporary romance between Kinslee, the female baker lead, and Matthew, the male construction worker lead, who is also her ex’s father. I empathised with Kinslee’s teen trauma and the coping mechanism of ignoring it. I enjoyed seeing her return to her small town and supportive grandmother, and pushing towards emotional recovery work. I enjoyed Matthew’s genuine kindness, and his sincere negative emotions around his son’s teen behaviour. I enjoyed the building playful banter between the characters. I enjoyed the carefulness with which they considered their potential relationship. I enjoyed that both lead characters were proactive in engagements with Matthew’s son and his wife. I appreciated the care taken of Matthew’s granddaughter. I enjoyed the happy ending for the lead characters.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
