The first time they met, Prince Jibril captured Lady Syrah's thirteen-year-old heart. The second, nineteen-year-old Syrah kidnapped and deposited the prince in a coffin. And that was just her first trick. Odorous bedpans, clever disguises, fainting maids, gold coins: All were part of Syrah's daring and brilliant strategy to restore her family's wealth and honor. Tantalizing kisses, forbidden embraces, and heartfelt promises (and her brother's overzealous tall tales!) were not. Who was laughing now? So she freed Jibril. Then the prince vowed to discover and marry his outrageous abductress, and Syrah knew at last they'd laugh together.
Lady Syrah's mother died of a fever that also incapacitated her father. He was head of the 9th house of the island kingdom of Dominion. Her cousin, of the less important 27th house, arrives to take over, murdering her uncle. Fearing for her life, Syrah stages her family's death and goes into hiding. Then she and her 14-year-old brother Eban, kidnap the crown prince - Jibril - the man she has loved for years. Her plan works and she does get the ransom for Jibril, but eventually is captured when trying to hire a mercenary. The king is trying to get her cousin and a smuggling friend for other reasons, so sends Syrah back to her house as a pawn. Smart, she figures it out and sets out to right the problems in her house. Eventually all works out and Jibril & Syrah do marry.
Mostly clean, mythical kingdom, middle ages type time period. Complicated plot that has some loose ends, but fun read.
this book was sexualy frustrating ! you could almost feel the sexual tension between syrah and jamil . I thought lady syrah was a very itresting woman and very clever .
Fantastic! One of the few books I've actually read over and over again...it really is laugh-out-loud funny. I look forward to reading more by this author.
