Keeper of the Peace
Graveyard Guardians, Book 2
By: Jennifer Malone Wright
Narrated by: Kelsey Osborne
Although this is book 2 and I didn't read book one, I didn't get lost. I want to go back and read book one now because this one was so good. I have book one in ebook but this I had in audible so I thought I would try to see if I could follow without reading one first and it was fine. I really enjoyed it. It is about two groups of supernatural beings that fight each other and burn each other on contact. The book is centered on one family of Keepers (that protect souls) vs the Reapers (that take souls). But one of the daughters of the Keepers falls in love with a Reaper and they don't burn each other. There is a prophecy....blah blah but it is an intriguing story and great characters. I was wrapped up in it and hooked right away.
The narration was good and performed the voices well.

David’s back home and once he sets his eyes on Hannah again, he is determined to get her back. He messed up the first time, but he was not going to make that mistake again.

Hannah was devastated when David left the first time. Would she be able to let him back into her life? What about the fact that she is a Keeper, a protector of souls and he is investigating the murder of a Reaper and she is the one that killed him.

I was able to quickly relate to David and his love for his 1968 Chevelle. I had one and boy did I love that car. It was loud, fast and so much fun to drive. Funny the things that catch my attention, especially when Reapers and Keepers are going head to head.

As the real word and the supernatural collide, the story picks up the pace. It is pretty easy to figure out the story, but the journey and getting to know a great cast of characters makes me want to read more and to know what happens to the Chosen One and the Prophecy.

After starting to write this review I found out it was the second book in the series, but I had no problem diving right in, I checked my Kindle and found Keeper vs Reaper sitting there…waiting. I will be going back in time to read it.

I think I've just found the most amazing series. Seriously, I'm so in love with this and I'm already grinning with pure excitement at the thought of reading the other books in the series.

Right from the beginning I was sucked in. Hannah is a Keeper and basically her job is to protect souls from the bad guys known as Reapers. Reapers generally eat the souls that hasn't passed on. What was meant to be an ordinary night turned out to less than ordinary when Hannah encounters a Reaper and then kills him in a nail biting confrontation. Then enter David, a detective, who's been called to his home town. He's investigating the murder case and of course, he has a history with Hannah. They haven't seen each other in twelve years when he moved to LA, breaking her heart in the process.

At first I thought that Hannah was a complete bad-ass and I instantly liked her as a character. When it came to David, on the other hand, I didn't know what to make of him as I didn't know too much about him at the time. But as the story progressed I found myself admiring David and he was such a strong leading male character. What I really loved was their second chance at romance. You can tell despite their tensed reunion (in which 1) she has to do an autopsy on the man she killed and b) she finds out he's on the case) both of them really hadn't fallen out of love with one another. In some cases there are some flashbacks of their previous relationship and I felt sorry for Hannah when he explained why he was leaving town for good. But then again at the same time it must have been a difficult decision for him to make despite wanting to make a better life for himself.

I liked that they managed to get past the hurt and pain and finally reconciled. Although I felt that it was slightly quick but I can understand her intentions. The sex scenes were well written and tastefully done. What intrigued me the most was after the first night they spent together David did find a connection between Hannah and the murder victim. I didn't know what to expect at that point because it could have went either two ways. One, he keeps his suspicions in the dark or two, he confronts her and then he loses her for the second time. Thankfully he stands by her and tries to gently convince her she can talk to him about anything. I think if I were in Hannah's shoes I would have done the same thing - keep the murder a secret and try to think of a way to introduce the supernatural world to him without sounding crazy in the process.

One of my favourite parts of the entire story is when Hannah meets David's parents for the first time years ago. The way she stood up to his pathetic excuse of a father proved that she's a feisty woman that doesn't take any shit from anyone. I feel sorry for David's crappy past - he never really had a close family that loved and appreciated him.

I admit when David finally puts Hannah under arrest and had to bring her in as a suspect my reaction was me gasping and saying "Oh no!" over and over again. That was when the shit hit the fan in my opinion. The build-up and drama leading to Hannah being put in jail and David getting kidnapped by two goons that followed him all the way from LA due to a fucked up case was cleverly developed. When Hannah was eventually bailed out and her and her family went on a rescue mission to retrieve David was just pure awesome.

I was so pleased when Hannah revealed the truth about Keepers and Reapers to David. It was totally fun in when he learned how to see spirits for the first time, starting off with Hannah's deceased dad. The ending was pretty sweet and meaningful because they both got what they wanted and he finally let go of his past by smashing the shit out of his parent's house. It makes me confident that their relationship is now stronger than before now they no longer keep secrets from each other.

Lastly, I have so much respect for the Estmond clan. I'm fond of every one and the portrayal of each character is so dynamic. The one character that stood out to me was Aiden, another Reaper. His parts and subplot was so amazing and he really came through in the end when rescuing David. I just hope that we learn more about him in the next book - oh, and perhaps he won't get interrupted in the middle of sex by annoying phone calls from the Empress.

Truthfully speaking, this is a series I want to be a part of. Since I haven't read the first book in the series I have already got the first book. I so want to learn about Jack and Lucy's relationship and how they met!

This book was ok. My issue was with how little the book actually focused on the keepers and reapers. There was some but the focus seemed to be on Hannah & David's relationship and sex a lot more. The series makes it seem like the focus should be more on keepers and reapers and a bit less on the romance. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the romance but I would like to know more about the Graveyard guardians and their trials. Also, I think the characters could use a bit more development.

This book follows on from Keeper Vs Reaper, picking up after they left the Empress and went back home.

I had a lot of issues with the first book. Thankfully, the avalanche of swearing has been dialled back in this book. That isn't to say there isn't any, but, for the most part, it is in context to the character / situation, so fits better with the flow. Unfortunately, the sex scenes are still incredibly tacky, put in without regard to how the story reads (eg after discussing the painful breakup with a very sensitive dialogue and leaving the room, just to do a complete about turn and throw that all out of the window) Cheap Porn anyone?

The thing that grates with me is that when the author is writing the actual story (a paranormal romance), everything flows nicely, and the writing is so much better quality. There seems to be a pause where its almost like someone completely different comes along and thinks 'I'm stuck, I need to change the story, I know let's put sex in', rather than put some actual story in - something paranormal to go with the romance might be an idea perhaps...

This might sound unfair, but bear in mind that for the first 15 chapters, we are following Hannah and her ex David, a detective who has returned to his small town to cover a case and meets up with his old flame - yes, another cliché. There are some good ideas around the first chapter, and the story could have been developed with more substance, rather than just the rebuilding of the relationship.

The actual story (what there is of it), builds up over roughly 26 chapters to an important event that could be crucial to how things go, only to be glossed over in the past tense in the very next chapter. To make matters worse, they are talking in a romantic setting where they both have fond memories of their past times when they kiss and then - yep, tacky porn time again...

This series could be really good. The writer is capable of sensitive, intimate storyline. She is also capable of the paranormal aspect of Urban Fantasy. Sadly, she goes for tacky, vulgar meaningless diversions.

Before anyone accuses me of being uptight / pc etc bear in mind that I have read reverse harem UF books and Erotic fiction with a dark twist. They were written well and blend the story with the sex, this does not.

3 stars for a great idea but a mediocre story.

She did it again, another great read by Jennifer Malone Wright!! Book Two in the Graveyard Guardians Series, Keeper of the Peace, delves deeper into the story of the Estmond Keepers and their continuing war with the Reapers. This book focuses on Lucy's sister Hannah's point of view as well as a new character David Foster. Wow. Just, wow. The plot thickens with lots of action, turmoil, and new twists and turns along the way. Not to mention those steamy, eyebrow waggling scenes that Jennifer writes so well. If you liked book one in the series, you will LOVE book 2. Thank you Jennifer for such an absorbing read!

I was lucky to be chosen to review a copy of this book, I'm a huge fan of Jennifer's books so far so I quickly began to read..
This book is the second installment of the Graveyard Guardians series, the first one being 'Keeper vs Reaper', and this one was just as great as the first one. You get to read more about the other members of Lucy's family in this book, more specifically her sister Hannah. I once again found myself reading straight through the night, just so I can see what happened from one chapter to the next!

Can't wait to keep reading the next installment!

Another Awesome Story

I love how this book delve right in where the other left off. It was an incredible adventure with a few unforeseeable things that had happened. I fell in love with the story and the characters. I still love the strength of the Estmond family's love and devotion to one another held together so strong. It's a fantastic read and one I highly recommend. But due to the graphic language, reader discretion is advised.

My review on: Keeper of the Peace by Jennifer Malone Wright.

I’ve already reviewed ‘Keeper vs. Reaper;’ which is the first book within the set and I do feel the writer may have listen a little to the feedback left from readers on that book. This book had less swearing and the sex parts were less tacky. Again the book is very easy too read but this time there was a lot more buff within the chapters then the first (Buff; I class as chapter filler to bulk the chapter.) This was worrying to me, because I felt the writer was struggling with the chapters, even when there is 29 of them and short. The thing that put me off this time was when she told the story of one character point of view, then she’d repeated the same thing for the other character in the next chapter, so I was reading it twice within two chapters.

The story still did not offer much of the Keepers and Reapers; it was more on the relationship of two other characters, so if the writer had cut down on the relationship parts, then all the stuff that did happen; which wasn’t much could have been easily place in the first book. Maybe the next book ‘Keeper Under Fire’ will pick up the pace and focus more on the Keepers and Reapers? But unless I get a free copy I’ll not be reading it. It’s a shame, because I’d like the idea of the Keepers and Reapers, the writer had something, but her focus is more relationship driven then anything else and the Keepers, Reapers is a side project I feels.

So my rating for this book is still set at three stars, a side note, even with the tacky sex and over used of the F-word in the first book, that was way better then this.

Keeper of the Peace is Book #2 in the Graveyard Guardians series by Jennifer Malone Wright. It is a paranormal adventure/urban fantasy series with supernatural elements, dramatic developments, action, danger, Keepers vs Reapers, and romance.

~Keeper of the Peace (Graveyard Guardians #2)
The love of her life left her long ago, shattering her heart into a million pieces. It’s taken Hannah almost twelve years to push away the hurt and move on with life. That is, until the death of a Reaper brings Detective David Foster back to town and their paths cross once again. Will she forgive David and rekindle their relationship? More importantly, will he find out she is the one responsible for the murder he is investigating?

I really wanted to LOVE this series, as it promises everything I love to find in a great story. But I just couldn’t find my groove here, and felt it was very slow in parts, with info dumps in some areas, while lacking info/details in others. After finishing the first four books in the series, I won’t be continuing with the other (3) books.
But maybe this is just a ‘me’ thing- so if this sounds like something you might like, you should probably grab yourself a copy and make up your own mind.
Full Review still to come-
Happy Reading…

"Keeper of the Peace" is the sequel to Keepers and Reaper and is Hannah's story. Hannah is Lucy's sister and also a Keeper. He is the medical examiner at the local hospital and then she is attacked outside of the senior citizen's center by a Reaper she end up killing him. She is so distraught that she allows her family to talk her into walking away but she knows that the police will eventually find out and her world will change forever.

On the same day the killing happens, Hannah is visited by none other than the man who broke her heart twelve years prior, Detective David Foster. He is back in town investigating the murder of the man she killed. To make matters worse he tells her he never really stopped loving her. How can she keep the knowledge of the killing from David as well as her job as a Keeper without losing him again for good?

As things become more complicated Aiden steps back into the picture and he is about to change his life in a big way but what will the cost be? One thing for sure an epic battle is coming between the Reapers and the Keepers but what will be the final cost?

There is plenty of romantic and professional tension brewing between David and Hannah in this read. Additionally there is a strong sense that the Empress of the Reapers is up to something big. There is enough tension and strife to make me want to read more. It's just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose and I can't wait!

Not bad, but honestly, there was just so many things that bugged me, beginning with the typos (the missing "" were the worst. I was always to confused as to where the sentence begins and ends) and ending with the overall awkwardness of the story, dialogues and the really stupid thoughts of the main characters.
Seriously, at first the heroine was talking about how thanks to her work, she doesn't really have to think about clothes... followed with 2-page description of her thinking which scrubs to wear. And I mean, that's just at the beginning. So at times, I was pretty much suffering from the overall stupidity of things like this one.
But all in all, I gotta say that the story has real potential. The family this is centered around is interesting, there's so many people with good story and I do want to know what happens next (if there's going to be something after this, I mean - the book ended pretty much on a "to be continued" note, but it also came out in 2015 and there's still nothing about a sequel here. I guess we'll see).
It's just real shame that the writing and the character thoughts really lack sometimes. I mean, this book didn't even really touch the main storyline that spans through the series. I mean, imagine a filler episode in a tv show. That's what this felt like.

Another great book!

I really wish I didn't have to wait until August to read the next book in this series!!! That seems like forever from now.

This book continues the story but focuses on Hannah, who killed a Reaper and is worried about facing murder charges. Her one true love walked out of her life thirteen years ago to become a policeman in the big city of LA. He wanted Hannah to come with him, but not knowing of her Keeper duties, she could only refuse and watch him leave.

Now David is a detective for the local county sheriffs office and he's been sent to town to investigate the murder of the man who was also the Reaper who attacked Hannah.

As David tries to win back Hannah's love and rekindle their romance, Hannah has to worry that any day now he'll be the one forced to arrest her.

Aiden, Jack's best friend and one of the Reapers, also makes quite a few appearances in this book too.

Can't wait to read more!

Love Heals

This another great story in the Graveyard Guardian series. There were a couple of times the story just jumped ahead skipping over pieces that I felt could have added to the story, but overall it is a great story.

Hannah is from a family of Keepers that protect the souls of the dead. Her sister is part of a prophecy and is the "Chosen One' that is slated to put an end to the Reapers, those that feast on the souls of the dead. Due to the prophecy, the Reapers have their sites on Hannah's family, to kill the Chosen One and her family.

When a reaper dies in a battle with Hannah, can she hide her involvement, will she lose the love of her life, David, who has just come back into her life but is also the detective sent to investigate the death.

If you are looking for. New series to read this one will not disappoint.

I really enjoyed Keeper vs Reaper, book 1 of the Graveyard Guardians series. It was pure fun seeing how Lucy, the “Chosen One” destined to destroy the horrible Reapers, dealt with the live of her life Jack who, yes, just happens to be a Reaper it to (you know it) kill the Chosen One. Now that story continues in Keeper of the Peace (book 2 in the series), though this team the focus is on Lisa’s sister Hannah and how she any her family (interesting Estmond family dynamics going on) desk with her need to kill a Reaper, David, the police detective sent to investigate who just happens (of course) to have been the jerk who broke her heart all at the same time as dealing with the Reapers our Hunting Lucy.

I’m exhausted just writing this review. Imagine what poor Hannah is going through?

Highly recommended.

Better....much better

Hanna is a medical examiner and Lucy's sister. She once had a boyfriend in her younger days.....David. He left to be a cop in LA. Well, that didn't turn out and he is back. Hanna spied Reaper in the trees and chased him. He almost killed her, but she got the best of him. She killed him, but left the body. It was found, and David is there to investigate.

Hanna is arrested for murder. David arrested her. They had just found each other again....now this. Readers have not given up killing Lucy, since she is the prophecy girl. But here, drug dealers get involved. There are kidnapped victims, truths and a realignment of allegiance. It's a pretty good story.

Although this follows Keeper vs. Reaper, it goes in a different direction. Rather than focusing on Lucy and Jack, this installment gives the reader a glimpse into the life of Hannah, Lucy's sister. While there is certainly suspense with the reapers, there are other outside sources of conflict.

I am really enjoying this series, with its exploration of paranormal possibilities as well as its multi-layered and varied characters. In particular, dialogue is authentic and engaging. Scenes are clearly and vividly described. The plot is fast-paced and engaging. Editing could be a lot better, but I'm still loving the series!

Will they be able to overcome the obstacles before them?

Another great read but again focuses more on the relationship aspects of the group rather than the supernatural one. Whereas the first book was concentratin on the youngest sister, this one deals with the eldest. Her soulmate left her to make a new life. Now he is a member of the police force and she is the person that gave him the dead body that he is investigating. Can the two ever reconcile their differences and actually be together. A great look at relationships but not really that much on the supernatural one. The books do remind me of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

This is the second installment in the series, and though I didn't read the first one; the second one was very interesting. The author has written about souls and the people who take care of them until they get where they're going and the people who are trying to keep (devoure or eat) them to keep them from getting there. This battle/interaction is basically nonviolent but when there is conflict, it's total. There was action, conflict, intrigue, and several love interests/angles. An interesting book to read

I'm really enjoying this series. 12 years after David left town to follow his dream of becoming a police detective, he returns to Summer Hollow and turns Hannah's world upside down. Not enough that she is being charged with murder - David's past catches up with him. Hannah has been hiding her true identity from him. How can she explain to David about the Keepers and the Reapers, without losing his love?

This installment of the series focuses on Hannah. Hannah finds herself in deep trouble and her ex-boyfriend David is investigating too closely for comfort. Once again, there is a lot of action and some explicit sex scenes. The story is moving right along at a quick pace. It definitely keeps you interested and reading. When I finished this, I grabbed up book 3 and started immediately!

Good read

The story is well written and draws the reader in from the start. It is a little bit of a well used plot but with slight differences. Dissapointing that it ends so abrupt, there needs to be a bit of a lead in to the next book, this ending leaves the reader feeling a little cheated.

Second installment in the Estman Keepers storyline, David has returned home from LA to face painful memories and a painful lost love. Hannah is facing a murder charge, and the return of the only man she has ever loved.
