Sold by my family. Hunted by my buyers. Saved by a monster.
My family settled their debt with my body. The wagon was hauling me to a frontier worksite where women like me have "accidents" inside a year. Too soft, too disposable to matter. I'd already made peace with how I was going to die.
Then lightning split the sky, and I ran.
I was bleeding and half-frozen when he found me. Seven feet of scarred orc captain. The kind of monster human girls are warned about from the cradle. He didn't drag me back. He didn't put a price on my head.
He looked at me like I was something his blood already knew. And asked me what I wanted.
No one had ever asked me that before. No one had ever held my softness like it was sacred. No one had ever called my body a revelation.
But the men who bought my life have followed me to his gates. And my orc captain has never been good at letting go of what's his.
This was really sweet! A little spicy and a perfect cozy read.
PLOT:
The story follows our heroine Delia who's been sold into slavery by her family. Delia is plus sized and struggles with anxiety and unlearning how she's been treated, trying to make herself small and redefining her own self image. One night, when a storm distracts her captors, she escapes into the wild forest and is found by Ralvar, an orc captain. This is their story.
THOUGHTS:
- this was pretty cute and engaging. It's nice to see a flawed heroine who has to learn to overcome her circumstances and who does so with difficulties. The romance between them is very sweet and genuine.
- the pace is a bit slow but in a sweet way.
- I'm a bigger girl myself but personally Delia's lack of self worth and constant fixation on her body kind of annoyed me. We're constantly hearing about her tummy or how big she is and I just wanted to see her live, without the emphasis on her weight all the time. I get it, it makes sense for the character, but it wasn't for me.
- my only detractor would be that I wanted a more spicy and animalistic take on orcs. Obviously not cruelty or abuse but I often even forgot the characters were orcs. They're kind, just, honest, levelheaded etc. I wanted that wildness and roughness personally.
4&1\2 terrific orcish 🌟s for Claimed by the Orc Captain !
Etta Wild is a need author for me and this was na impulse download to my kindle and I absolutely love that is was a terrific choice. Delia, was always considered too much. To much spirit, too loud, eats too much etc. When the family fell into debt it fell to Delia to pay it. When she escapes in the the iron wilds she expects to die there instead she's found by Ralvar. Ralvar is an orc Captain at a near by outpost some instinct makes him follow a scent that leads him to a human females terrified and cold. He's been betrayed by humans before but can't keep be her in the forest. He rescues her and fins out she's been betrayed by her own kind and just wants to be free. Everything Delia has learned about Orcs has been a lie. Ralvar rescues her, takes care of her and offers to help her find freedom. This big Intimidating orc is gentle and instead of freedom she wants nothing more than. To stay by his side. Together they head deeper into Orc territory determined to build a life together. No human or Orc will be able to tear them a part, but they'll certainly try. This was so good! The characters were well written and compelling, the storyline and world build excellent! Highly recommend and I'm off to read the next in the series.🌟💖🌟💖💖🔥🌟🔥🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟💖🔥💖
Etta Wild has a talent for telling stories about finding the partner who fills your soul at first sight and, more importantly, coming to grips with that discovery. That story fits any romance between beings, human or other.
A Human woman sold into bondage by her family, an Orc captain who rescues her from death, the drama of being hunted by people who regard her as cargo or property, and a HEA that will make you sigh happily and maybe shed happy tears. All right here in this book you love and revisit like an old friend. I highly recommend this book and this author.
This was a really sweet story…almost too sweet for me. No true suspense or tension as to what the characters go through. Just a very easy, slower paced read.
The MMC was just so “perfect”, saying all the right things, yet somehow most of it just struck me as surface level. A performance. What every female wants to hear, all stuffed into one book.
The never-ending focus and reminder of Delia’s size, mostly by Delia herself was over the top. Just a very superficial view of herself, but now that she has a man she finally starts viewing herself as worthy. That always annoys me.
This story was okay for what it was but I felt it was missing something.
I don’t know how I keep randomly stumbling upon these lesser known orc romantasy books, but keep them coming universe. This was such an unexpected read in the best way. Both characters are dealing with past hurt, and end up finding comfort in each other, while also growing into the people they want to be. Ralvar does everything in his power to make sure that Delia has the independence that was never offered to her in the human realm. Delia helps him finally process the deaths of his close friends.
✨No cheating ✨No third act breakup ✨No cliffhanger ✨HEA
This is a gentle love story with a young woman finding her way after being sold by her family and the orc warrior who helps her learn that she is beautiful and worthy of love. It has some spice but I appreciated the lack of dominance found in many books.
No bully tropes, no insecurity (in love), just a building love story which made me smile and aww. Etta Wilde writes a sweet, straightforward lovestory between an orc and a human woman and I was there every step of the way.
Delia was sold by her family to pay for their debt. She is a bigger gal and has always been told she's too big, eats too much, etc. So she ran into the Iron Wilds not caring if she froze or not. Ralvar finds her and takes care of her. Sweet story. Enjoy
