If you've read a cozy cowboy then you know what expect from this series.
Low on angst and spice. Family focused with kids taking up much of the page time. This isn't unusual in these books but in this case I found it impeded on the romance.

This one is a second chance romance, with Cam and Mitch having previously 'dated' in high school. This is one of the points that is unclear. Did they actually date or just fool around? How old was Cam when he left? Because I'm sure it says Cam is 30, so logic implies Mitch is 30 or thereabouts. Yet his oldest daughter turns 12 in the story. I can do the maths. Mitch was 17/18 when he got Allison pregnant but there is no implication it was a shotgun wedding. (And another thing, why keep calling Mitch an old guy, they're the same age!)

I have no objections to big families but there were so many characters I couldn't keep track.

Not my favourite book of the series.

Leaving my updates here as these things bothered me while I was reading:
65% Why are they worried about the cost of the tree when in the previous chapter it had mentioned a whole bathroom remodel just so they could fuck in the shower. Honestly how could they afford that when months before Mitch was so broke he worried he couldn't afford school supplies. Also the kids were rail thin at the beginning but nothing has been mentioned about the girls putting on weight or looking healthier.
73% These guys are 30. Why is Mitch acting like smartphones didn’t exist when he was at school. By the time he was in high school they would have been becoming quite popular.
93% Why is Cam acting all surprised? Mark asked if he could alter his trailer before he did it. It's almost like the author forgot she wrote the original scene.

I have been lucky to have been reading B.A. Tortuga for years. After a site I found them on closed, I lost connection and fell behind on their books. I am so happy to have found this one to read. B.A. Tortuga knows how to write a fantastic story full of everything I look for in a book. I love the way they write about cowboys. I can just shut my eyes and see what they are writing seems alive to me. Campbell has a passion to go back to his hometown during the rodeo's busiest season. A friend asks for some help, and Campbell helps his friends when they ask. He hates being guilted into going to the place his ex could be found. He's an ex for a reason. Mitch is so damaged. All I wanted to do was hug him and take care of him. After he broke his back falling off the roof. If that isn't bad enough, he is struggling to raise his girls right since their mom isn't around anymore. I was rooting for these two and the girls. They deserve the happy ever after; will they get it?

I didn't like this book. Based on the reviews and comments from others, I felt like I read a different book, or I'm too critical.
For one thing, we are told but not shown a lot. And too many time skips. For example, Cam and Mitch discussed one of the kids' birthday parties. Cam wants to get the gifts for the kid and stuff for school for all the kids. In the next chapter, we time-skip to a few weeks later after the party and are told what happened. The same thing happens for the next girls' party. We are shown a little of Halloween, but on Christmas, they skip from Christmas morning to NYE night.
Since there are so many time skips, we don't see Cam fall in love with Mitch and the girls. After a time skip, they are all saying I love you and the kids are calling Cam Daddy Cam. It is hard to get invested in a relationship if it isn't shown.
So clearly this for me.

Mitch, a roofer, has fallen ( off a roof )
on hard times after his wife died. He has three girls to raise, as he heals, and cannot seem to keep up with life.
Many friends have helped, and then his friend and ex, Campbell/Cam shows up to help out, and he’s amazing. He gets right to work, and helps with the kids, animals and cooking, etc.
As we watch the busy days, we see Mitch and Cam talk and realize their feelings are still alive.
The work is constant, the girls are realistic and fun, and things are looking up, but there are bumps in that road. We see them cope with everyday life and plans for their future.
Cam and Mitch have hot sexy times, deep emotions have rekindled and the holidays are coming.
You will like the caring men, sweet girls with different personalities, and the heart warming event with families and friends.

Cam is a cowboy and a rodeo one at that. Mitch is a single dad with three girls, but when he falls off a roof, he's hard up. Cam's momma calls him to come help out Mitch, but he has the urge to say no. They didn't part that well when they were together in their teen years. To Mitch's surprise, Cam appears to help him out. Cam has doubts about raising three little girls, but he's a cowboy, and he is going to cowboy up. But tables are turned when Cam is injured at a rodeo event, and he's on the other side of the table. Eventually, Cam and Mitch begin to come together in a true relationship.
This is a book to be read and enjoyed. There are timeline changes, but you use your own thoughts to bring everything together.

Blue Collar Cowboy is an excellent addition to the Cozy Cowboys series and I was fully engaged from the first page to the last. It is beautifully written, sweet, funny, deals well with some difficult issues and Mitch's kids are amazing. Cam is an absolute sweetheart and his large chaotic and loving family are one of my favorite parts of this story. He reluctantly returns home to help Mitch after his mother insists that he is needed. Once he realizes that Mitch and his three daughters are in desperate need of some help he is all in and will do whatever it takes to help Mitch heal and provide the girls with some much needed stability. Mitch has been trying to be the best dad possible but after he is injured he has to learn how to accept all of the help that is being offered, He and Cam are exactly what the other needs and I love how their relationship develops as they get to know each other again. They have a lot to deal with but with the love and support of Cam's family they have the chance to find their happily ever after together. The ending is perfect and I can't wait to see what the author has in store for us next.

Sweet book, zero angst, low spice. Blue Collar Cowboy is a slice of life book with a predictable plot and outcome. A very light read, and was not satisfying. Hard to rate since easy to read, but not at all memorable or noteworthy. I'd skip this one by Tortuga and find one with more substance.

Spelling/Grammar

The plot is actually pretty decent and kept my attention; however, the spelling and grammar errors are extreme, as in more pages have them than not. Also, you can tell the book was edited but not reviewed very well, as sometimes a character would answer a question no one asked or their answer would not pertain to the situation at all. At times, it almost seemed artificially written with how choppy it was.

A second-chance love realized with the help of a persuasive sister and the power of Momma guilt. (Ain't nuthin' like it.) Cam Halley had left behind his small town and high school boyfriend to chase the fast paced life of a roper on the rodeo circuit. The ended things on good terms, both wanting something different out of life. He had no intention of going back. . . and the the Momma guilt happened.

And left behind high school boyfriend? Mitch Gonzalez tried to move on. He got married, had a family, then lost his wife when his third daughter was born. Falling off a roof he was repairing was literally the straw that broke his back. Asking for and receiving help graciously has never come easy to Mitch, but now he's been inundated by the Halley clan, including the one whole left him for bigger and bright things. He'd love to turn them all away, especially Cam, but his daughters desperately need a stabilizing force in their lives and he is barely eaking by.

Once Cam settles into his role as "helper," he becomes so sweet. The girls adore him and the feeling quickly becomes mutual. Cam's love of life is exactly what Mitch needs after the traumas life his put him through. As their relationship dynamic grows and changes, so do their outlooks on life. They become everything the other never knew was needed. The role reversals toward the end of the book was a nice touch.

As engaging and full of life Cam and Mitch are, Momma Halley and twelve year old daughter Bekka are beyond delightful. Momma has a big personality and a need to love people. Bekka is the oldest who tries so hard to help her dad despite all the pressure she is trying to carry on her small shoulders. But she doesn't give up and just keeps trying even on the worst days.

This story is a quick, cozy read, perfect for curling up under a fuzzy blanket and enjoying with a favorite hot beverage. While it is part of a series, no prior knowledge of the characters or setting is required.

Recommended for fans of Jackie North, Clay Daintry, and S.C. Wynne.

This is another great book by BA Tortuga. I enjoy reading her cowboy themed tropes. They always lift my spirits. When I see a new release by Ms. Tortuga, I just HAVE to get it! She is easily one of my top five authors.

Rodeo roper cowboy Cam Halley is summoned by his mother to return to their town. It seems one of his old classmates, Mitch Gonzales fell off a roof and broke his back. A widower with three young daughters, Mitch is laid up. He can't work or care for his girls, and he's just eking by. Cam's sister convinces him that it's not so much as lending a hand as it is visiting his family. He doesn't even know if Mitch will accept his help.

When he sees Mitch, he immediately understands what his mother is talking about. But, Cam really doesn't want to stay in town. He wants to get back on the rodeo circuit. Upon meeting Mitch's young daughters Bekka, Sarah, and Rachel, Cam realizes how much Mitch needs help. Mitch begrudgingly agrees.

Mitch isn't accustomed to asking for help and an even harder time accepting it. His 11 year-old girl Bekka has been doing her best to care for her family. A young girl shouldn't have that kind of burden. Momma Halley, who is a force of nature, rallies the Halley clan to help with his household chores. Mitch feels bulldozed and overwhelmed by the Halley clan's readiness and willingness to help him out. Cam eventually moves into Mitch's home.

Mitch and Cam had feelings for each other during high school. But, Cam wanted to ride in the rodeos. Mitch did not. So now, as they spend more time together, the hurt and feelings resurface. Cam plans to leave once Mitch is back on his feet. Mitch has his family and ranch to take care of. They tiptoe around their new attraction to each other because of it.

Like I said earlier, this book is great. It is well-written and the story just flows; the visuals are stunning. I totally enjoyed this and heartily recommend it.

"I know I raised you better." (p9). Momma guilt. It's a thing, a weapon, and Mama Halley yields it so well. My hero. Between Mama and his sister, Cam gets roped into coming home after (during?) Cowboy Christmas. Ex's, doggies, kids and food, all the components to a great BA Tortuga story are here. It's a quick, fun read. So grab your floofy blankie, some popcorn and some tea. And settle in.
Cam Halley and Mitch Gonzales were boyfriends in high school. Went their separate ways, Cam became a rodeo roper. Mitch became a roofer, married, and lost his wife to an aneurysm while she was in labor with their third child.
Another "happiness comes from tragedy" story, something this author does so well. This one has a strong hurt/comfort theme with a little twist. Cam caretakes a grumpy, reluctant Mitch and the favor is returned later in the book. Also, I wasn't sure if Ms. Tortuga was going to give us our first cowboy triad when Mark, Mitch's best friend enters the picture. But it turned out to be fodder for another story. The little girls were adorable. Cam 's developing relationship was story typical, but a goth cowboy? That was a good twist. Mitch and his deceased wife were family light, and it was wonderful when the entire Halley clan engulfed the Gonzales' and created a touching found family.
A quick read. A story to make you smile.

Mitch and Cam were boyfriends when they were in high school, broke up when Cam went off to be a rodeo roper, and now Cam’s back to help an injured Mitch.

Mitch has 3 girls and can’t work due to a broken back, and at first he’s reluctant to accept help, but he knows he needs it. Cam is great with the girls, and even helps him pay for surgery he needs.

They still have a connection and see a possible future together, and the relationship deepens as Cam grows closer to the girls. His big family also love Mitch’s little family, and this allows the girls something they’ve never had, an extended family experience.

Mitch gets back on his feet and then Campbell gets injured at a rodeo, so the caregiving is reversed. Mark, Mitch’s best friend, comes to stay for awhile and is a big help, and he’s also had a rough time so he gets some space from his life.

Once everyone is well Cam and Mitch have Christmas with everyone, Mark decides to move to the town, and Mitch and Cam envision more Christmases and parenting the girls together.

I enjoyed this story, especially Cam’s big family and their care and chaos. I also loved Mark, who’s an interesting, rich genius and is sure to have his own story.

Blue Collar Cowboy is part of BA’s Cozy Cowboys series but these are all stand alone novels. The books are all cozy romances, involving rodeo cowboys, children, and building a family. This is such a wonderful second-chance romance that pulls at all the feelings.
Campbell Halley is a successful rodeo roper who gets a call from his mom, that is former high school boyfriend, Mitch, has fallen on hard times and needs help. Mitch is a widower with three young girls, a small ranch, and a broken back. He is stubborn and has not accepted help from anyone but Mrs. Halley knows he would never say “no” to Cam.
Mitch and Cam have not seen each other in years. They didn’t end things on a bad note; they wanted different things out of life. Cam wanted the rodeo and Mitch wanted a home and family. Now they are back under the same roof and old feelings are coming back. Mitch and Cam are not teenagers anymore, Cam has a rodeo career to think about and Mitch has three girls who are his whole world. They need to decide if they can build a lasting relationship together as adults.
This is a great story. The development of friendship to love was really sweet. I loved all of the additional characters, especially Mitch’s daughters and the Halley family. I would love to see some more books come from the characters introduced in this story.

Every time I read a BA Tortuga novel, it feels like coming home for some reason. I just get a happy warm feeling and Blue Collar Cowboy was no different. At his mothers insistence, Cam is pulled from his Rodeo schedule to come home to help his Ex after a work accident. However the Ex is now a widow with 3 small daughters in the Mix. Cam finds himself falling in love with Mitch all over again and loving the family life he never thought he wanted. Mitch’s feelings for Cam come back full force when he sees how well Cam actually fits into his current life. Each character has emotional barriers that they have to break through to make the relationship work but that is what I love about the author's writing. It's so true to life about how love is not just something that happens easily. Real love and relationships take work, effort and more than 2 people are usually involved. BA Tortuga’s stories usually come with minor angst but the minor pain is what is needed for major emotional breakthroughs. I also really hope we had a glimpse of a future Lead Character in best friend Mark, as I can see a solid story there as well. Happily looking forward to the next Story!

“Blue Collar Cowboy” by BA Tortuga is part of the ‘Cozy Cowboys' series and features cowboy Cam, whose mother guilts into returning home to help his former lover, who has been seriously injured and is struggling to support his three children while recuperating.


This author provides vivid word portraits of all of the kids involved in the ready-made family, and shows yet another example of the cowboy code wherein folks help each other out, no matter what their past history has been. I love second-chance stories, and the addition of three very distinct young personalities only enhanced the story. I am immediately drawn in and sympathetic when I read this author’s stories, and it always impresses me how such tragedy and challenges in life can be resolved with a lot of love, a bit of compromise, and true care for each other. Times are so tough right now, and it’s always a welcome respite to see a new story by this author. Please keep them coming.

Absolutely loving this series from BA. Yet another warm, second-chance romance with plenty of heart and a strong focus on family.

The return to hometown setup works really well here, bringing a mix of unresolved feelings and familiar faces back into Cam’s life whether he’s ready or not. There’s a natural tension between his more restless lifestyle and the steadiness Mitch’s world now requires, especially with three young daughters in the picture.

What stood out most was the emotional core of the story. Mitch’s situation adds a layer of vulnerability, and the dynamic between the two men shifts in a way that feels grounded in care rather than just rekindled attraction. Their shared history gives the romance a believable foundation, even as they figure out who they are to each other now.

The sense of community is another highlight. From family pressure to unexpected support, there’s a strong found-family element that adds warmth and balance to the heavier moments.

Another fun cowboy book by BA Tortuga.

Cowboy Cam comes back home when his high school boyfriend, Mitch, breaks his back falling off a roof. They haven't spoken in years, and the only reason Cam is back is because his mother insisted. Mitch got married and had 3 girls - the mother died while pregnant with the 3rd child, and now he needs help while he's injured because he has no living family to help him. At first Mitch doesn't want to accept Cam's help, but eventually he does. They eventually fall back in love. The book basically follows how they become a family - how they get through Mitch's injury, and later Cam's.

If you liked her other books, you'll like this one. It takes a minute for these 2 to get together, so it's different from a lot of her other books in that the mains don't fall in love immediately - they're pretty grumpy with each other at the beginning.

One thing you can always, and I mean always count on, is BA Tortuga writing a feel good comfort read kind of book. This Cozy Cowboy series has never failed me and I don’t expect it to ever start. Cam and Mitch have a history that didn’t end well. There was hurt on both sides and they both moved on, each in their own way with what they wanted. Mitch starts a family and Cam disappears into the rodeo. Cam’s family is a meddling bunch but they certainly mean well by both men and Mitch’s girls. These two never really talk about what happened between them much. It’s more like forgive and forget and move forward. The characters always keep me coming back to these books. Sarah is also my spirit child, little goth Wednesday Addams that she is. I love her and I loved this story. I do, however, need Mark to get his happy ever after too!

No one writes a MM cowboy love story than this author. With each book I am in awe of how easily I am drawn in from page one and then read the entire book in one sitting. The author ability to take me from smiling to tears with this wonderful story of hurt, comfort and rekindled love. I always finish each book on a natural high, thinking that good and love does win over evil and hate. In this one Campbell is quilted in moving home to help a form ex, Mitch. Mitch life is is disarray..he is struggling financially, dealing with major health injury and trying to raise three daughter all alone. I love how the author uses the kids as major players in helping the main characters find love and they aren't simply filler. Grab your favorite beverage and sit back and read this feel good story. It will feel like a comfy old sweater that will leave you feeling warm, happy, and not wanting it to end.

Coming home to help his ex was not what Cam wanted to do with his down time from the rodeo circuit. But Mitch needed the help and his three daughters and the ranch needed Cam too. He realized that his mom may have guilted him to return but his return was a good thing. He plans to help out while Mitch recovers and go on about his business. Once he gets there he comes to realize that leaving will not be as simple as he thought. This story really is about how a family comes together and with support from others finds a way to make it through a tough time. It is also the story of how although he didn't think he was ready to settle down Cam finds love and family that helps him do just that. So much to like about this story and so many of the characters in it.

A wonderful story!

I absolutely loved this book! Mitch and Cam used to be together but life took them in different directions. A roofing accident will leave Mitch with a broken back and his three little girls to raise. Cam’s momma will guilt him into heading home to help Mitch. The two didn’t end their relationship very well and he is sure Mitch will just kick him out. But Mitch can’t afford to turn away the help. The two will mend the hurt between them as they spend more time together. Cam will come to be an integral part of Mitch and the girls’ lives and it isn’t long before the two are finding their way through a brand new relationship that they intend to hold on to forever.

Just loved it. Warm story with two men plus others and 3 fascinating young daughters who are yearning for a happy ending. Mitch a widower has a serious accident and is laid up struggling to look after his three girls. Mitch's wife died in child birth after their 3rd child. Both Mitch and his wife are/where Bi. After the accident, Cam's mother orders him back to look after mitch. Both had a flimg when younger. The story evolves around the two me reconnecting and building multiple relationships. Not too much angst and alot of love. A lovely story to warm the cockles of one's heart.

I have already read several books by BA Tortuga and this book in the series didn't disappoint either.

After his mother keeps insisting, Cam goes to Mitch to help him.

And after all these years, love slowly blossoms.
I enjoyed the story's progression. The relationship between Cam and Mitch gradually deepened. And it felt very natural.

I also enjoyed Rebekka, Rachel, and Sarah, Mitch's three daughters.
It's so wonderful to see how each of them has its own unique personality.
It was wonderful to read how naturally they accepted Cam into their midst as one of their own, and to see how surprised Cam was that they felt like his 'kids' so quickly.

Cam and Mitch have a rough road to hoe after years of separation with an aura of forced-upon closeness.  Mitch is in a tough family situation as he'd fallen off a roof, broke his back, and doesn't have any family to rely on for help with his 3 daughters.  Cam's mother puts the burden of guilt on his shoulders to offer to help Mitch out.  A touching tale of help.  The 3 daughters, Rebekka, Rachel, and Sarah are so adorable.  They lend humor and brightness to this story.  This story is one of the making of a family that is sweet, how each person cares for the other members, whether an adult or a child.  This is my opinion of the ARC I received.

But the minute he sets his eyes back on Mitch, and meets his 3 little girls, he knows he did the right thing. Super sweet- this book was a fantastic, low-angst read about sweet natured cowboys, second changes and the importance of family, regardless of how you're related. I enjoyed every page of this book!

This is another comforting, feel-good book in the BA's Cozy Cowboys series. In this book, Mitch is a widowed bisexual father of three who is overwhelmed in try to take care of his three young girls, while recovering from a broken back, with huge financial issues. Cam is a rodeo cowboy whose large family, including his mother, convinces him to temporarily come home to help Mitch, his high school boyfriend, get through a tough time.

As the two men spend time together and Cam gets to know Mitch's girls, life slowly begins to fall into place. Then, the two men feel the spark of youth reignite. A very fun, satisfying read. Recommended!

I am a huge fan of BA Tortuga, and she has outdone herself yet again. This is an excellent book! It is the story of Cameron, the cowboy and Mitch, the dad. They were sweethearts who gave up on each other due to stubbornness, but Cam’s Momma has enlisted him to help Mitch, who broke his back, until he gets back on his feet and takes care of his three girls. Cam wants no part of it but when he sees just how bad Mitch is and meets his daughters, he cannot help himself. This is a lovely story of two men who meet again and navigate the difficulties of adulthood and fatherhood. A definite must read!

I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to see how every one took care of each other (Cam and Mitch, the girls, Cam’s family, Mark). It was obvious how close people were and how determined they were to help out.
I appreciated how the book approached the concerns and grief of the girls when it came up. There also is something gratifying seeing Cam being mindful of how he interacts with and responds to the girls to make sure that they are as happy as possible (though there definitely were some missteps along the way).

This was a sweet and wholesome read, with plenty of forced proximity, sexual tension, and genuine characters. There are plenty of challenges to overcome, and Cam works hard to help Mitch and his kids, but also to show it's okay to accept help.
I liked the different personalities of the 3 girls, and how they warm to Cam and help support their dad.
It has no unnecessary drama, and focuses on the connection they have, how they help care for each other, and how they become a family.
It's a sweet story of rekindling old feelings and second chances, a single dad and his cowboy, and family bonds.
