The Shrouded Moon

Rate this book
Cosmic witches were supposed to be nothing but legend.

After the Dark War, the Crown erased them from history—branding their magic a threat to the realm and hunting the last of their kind into extinction.

A thousand years later, Aurora and Genevieve are born carrying that same forbidden power. Raised on secrecy and restraint, they learn early that survival depends on silence, and that the truth is the most dangerous thing of all.

When whispers of an ancient prophecy resurface, the girls are forced to confront a reality far darker than they were prepared for. The Eternal Eclipse is coming. And the fate of Elarion will not be decided by one savior.

It will be decided by two.

As shadows stir and loyalties fracture, Aurora and Genevieve must choose whether to remain hidden—or risk everything to reclaim a legacy the realm fears awakening. Because when dawn finally breaks, it will either restore balance…

Or destroy everything in its path.

ARC REVIEW.
I enjoyed this book. A new fantasy world to run away to!! And written by a Michigander!!! Woo Hoo!!!

The story is of magic and best friends a Trouple: Sage who’s fiery and spunky maybe slightly unhinged, Aurora who is quiet and goes along even when she doesn’t want to(wallflower) and Genevieve who’s steady and maybe the glue of the group. They are witches who live in this world that has secretly been taken over by the shadows who infest. Witch’s in this world whose ability range from healing, fire, wind, to name a few and usually only one talent.
The girls are the first cosmic witches born in over a century, and even though those before them have left paths and information for them, they have to lead themselves and push themselves and learn and not give up. To keep trying and pushing through defeat and dispair. With the support of each other, some family and unexpected allies they grow…
The Shrouded Moon is a novel about friendship, love and loyalty.
And of course this first book ended in a cliffhanger, which only has me full and questions and wanting more. I can’t wait to continue in the adventure of the two cosmic witch’s … hoping the Ally keeps showing up…

I haven’t read a story about an unbreakable female friendship in years and damn… this was it. Aurora and Genevieve enthralled me, and their bond felt just as magical as the world around them.
Every character felt like being hugged by your best friend.. if that best friend was a bad ass with magic! The ending was beautifully executed! I cannot wait for book 2! If you love magic, fierce female friendships, secret prophecies and an ending that leave you excited for book 2, this belongs on your TBR!

Oh. My. Goodness. Gratious. Me! 😍

A must-read for lovers of fantasy, magic, gods and goddesses, themes of moon 🌑 and sun☀️, light romance 💖, prophecies 🔮, young heroines, and more!

Plot:
In this story, we follow two girls, Aurora and Genevieve, best friends whose powers make them extraordinary in an already magical world full of witches and otherworldly powers. In order to survive the prophecy circling the realm, the girls have to learn more about their powers and make a decision that weighs over them while trying to survive.

Characters:
Aurora 🌑 - The quiet one of the main duo and the shy one of our trio. She spends her days helping her mother at the apothecary, and once she learns the truth about her powers, she becomes the voice of reason. She is the thinker behind decisions and Genevieve's best friend. Their close friendship makes their acceptance of their faith 100 times easier.

Genevieve ☀️ - The sunshine of the group, more outspoken than Aurora, and the more daring one of the duo. She's helping her family on a farm, supplying Aurora's mum's apothecary with herbs, hence being most often in contact with Aurora. She is daring

Sage 🔥 - The bubbly 'sidekick' of the main trio. The glue holding the group together and making our FMCs step out of their comfort zones when necessary. She holds the power of fire, which suits her personality to the final dot. When left out of the duo's schemes, she's the one confronting our FMCs and not shying away from the confrontation. Always speaks her mind and loves being the centre of attention.

Ronan 🛡️ - One of the male protagonists in the story, holding a secret of his own, in a mysterious way. A royal guard with a developing crush on one of our FMCs. Protective and helpful, yet gives the girls space when they need it without unnecessary questions.

Overall:

5⭐ are not enough

I adored the story from the very beginning. The themes in this story are my favourite, and the characters are well written. We get to know all the necessary information just in the right time, so that we're not left guessing or turning the pages back to see if we've missed anything.

Though I love a well-fitted cliffhanger, this book keeps its readers wanting more. So I have just one thing to say: Please, I need to know what happens next ASAP!!!

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author, and I rated the book like any I'd buy with my own money. 📚

4,5⭐

A story of fantasy and magic, but above all a story about friendship, loyalty, and trust.

"It always felt like hope. Like, no matter what happens, they stay side by side."

In a world where Cosmic witches have dissapeared after the Dark War, two girls are born under rather special circunstances, they end up becoming best friends, sharing a secret that could be their end: some very special powers.
Furthermore, people are starting to talk in the streets about an ancient prophecy, from a thousand years ago, that talks not about one person, but two.

In this story we have Aurora, a quiet and shy girl, but who has her own light, like the Moon (my favourite if I can say so); and Genevieve, much more extroverted, talkative and daring, bright like the Sun.
We also have, among others, Sage, who is always leading them into crazy ideas, who always speaks without filters. She is a little like fire; and Ronan, a castle guard with his own secrets, he reminds me of the darkness of the night, which is still peaciful.

I'm fascinated by everything related to magic in this kingdom, every single power that exists, but specially the ancient magic, the history behind it; as well as the stories about how the kingdom came to be what it is now. I want to know all about it, about the rulers before the actual ones, and about the Dark War.

"There is more than one way to wage a war. Not with swords, but with wisdom."

There's also a touch of romance, very little, but it's appreciated amidst everything else that's happening.

"But safety, I was beggining to learn, could also be a kind of cage."

If I had to find a fault, and this is why the book doesn't get a full five stars for my point of view, it would be that I saw the plot twists coming and so they didn't impress me as I expected.

Even so, and after all this, I'm really looking forward the next books to find out what will happen to Aurora and Genevieve, and to all the world, since this was just the beginning.

Thanks the author, Alissa Anne, for the ARC copy in exchange of an honest review.

I just finished this book and I am gobsmacked, holy moly. In a positive way though. This was great!

Aurora and Genevieve were amazing characters. They both had concrete flaws and strengths. I liked that Genevieve was a bit impulsive and stubborn, but fiercely loyal and passionate. I like how this story treats Aurora and Genevieve's platonic relationship equally as important, if not more important, than the romantic relationship between Aurora and Ronan.

I loved Sage. I don't want to talk about her too much for reasons you will see when you read the book, but she was a great character. I loved her positivity and distractedness, as well as her love for food and fashion. I thought that she also had a lot of depth since her flaws were focused on a decent amount when Aurora and Genevieve interacted with her. I only wish I saw more of her, but it seems like the novella coming out soon should cover that.

The only issues I really had with the book were the tense issues. Some sentences right next to each other would be in entirely different tenses, which at best were annoying and at worse actively distracting from what was happening in the story. There were also some passages where the sentences didn't follow each other the best so it was confusing to tell what was going on.

I also think that the narration between Aurora and Genevieve was kind of identical. Hopefully as the series progresses, the author might give them more unique voices and styles of narration since they're such different people.

The story was great. I feel like it really succeeds in its "chosen one" theme. It was, for the most part, fun and light. The ending gets a little dark and the last quarter really picks up in action and excitement (which was great. At that point I didn't want to put the book down). I really am looking forward to the novella since I can see more of Sage and where the main story picks up in the sequel!

Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this arc. Here is my honest review.

Holy magical perfection this story was spectacular. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite books ive ever read. ✨️God tier for me. ✨️

Im rating this story 5 ⭐️. I wish i could give it more!

The why-

The dual POV between our two FMCs, Aurora and Genevieve was such a treat. I loved seeing both sides of their friendship from each point of view. Aurora, the quiet and shy friend. And Genevieve the talkative, social, fiery friend.

The world building was incredibly immersive. To learn about the past and present in such detail. I felt as if i were really in the story with these characters. The stakes were high, and the pacing was fast without losing the details. I was on the edge of my seat more than one time, flying through these pages, putting off obligations because i was completely unable to put this book down. I HAD to know what happened next.

I am absolutely distraught at having to wait for the second book to come out after THAT cliffhanger (ma'am please i need to know what happens asap).

I could talk about this book for ages but I dont want to give away any spoilers.

I cannot recommend this book enough!

I honestly didn’t want to put this book down! It follows two best friends who are witches with ancient cosmic magic, and their bond is truly the heart of the story. Their friendship feels real and grounded, even when everything around them is unfolding in the most magical and chaotic ways.

I found myself sitting on pins and needles just waiting to see what would happen next. Every twist and reveal pulled me deeper in. I loved how the story balanced magic, adventure, and just enough romance to add warmth without taking over the plot. The romance was like a “slow burn in the background”, which actually worked really well because the focus stays on their friendship and their mission to save their realm.

The world-building was easy to get into but still felt rich and full of mystery, especially around the ancient magic.

Overall, this was a super enjoyable fantasy read with strong characters, a great bond between the main duo, and a storyline that kept me hooked from start to finish. Definitely a 5-star read for me!

I received this book via the author as an ARC and this is my honest review 📖

Set in Elarion, this is a tale of cosmic magic🪄 , and friendship that stands the test of time (and then some)!! The absolute takeaway from the book is the relationship between Aurora and Genevieve, with their trusty sidekick, Sage - imagine your very best friend in life and multiply it ten fold, inseparable, unwavering, and quite literally spell binding.

There is very subtle, slow burning romance, an adorable male character (Ronan) and hidden, forbidden magic 🔮 that will keep you absolutely engrossed from start to finish. There was one particular passage that stopped me absolutely dead in my tracks "You will not fail. Because you are my girl. Stronger than you know, smarter than you believe". Now who doesn't need to hear that every once in a while.

Alissa Anne has created an epic start to a trilogy, and I absolutely cannot wait to read what comes next.

If you like fantasy, magic and female friendship, The Shrouded Moon needs to feature on your TBR list💖

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Alissa Anne for the opportunity to read an advanced reader copy of this novel and provide an honest review.

To begin, the author clearly has a masterful command of the cliffhanger; the conclusion of this story was both devastating and compelling, leaving me eager to delve into the second installment immediately.

This novel offers a seamless reading experience, centering on two best friends who discover they are cosmic witches. Their journey is one marked by magic, betrayal, and intricate royal politics. While I thoroughly enjoyed the protagonists, Aurora and Genevieve, I found Sage to be the standout character. Her impulsive nature often led to tension, yet by the conclusion of the narrative, she demonstrated a profound sense of loyalty and devotion to her friends that was truly moving.

For those who appreciate stories centered on witchcraft and the depth of lifelong friendship, I highly recommend this book.

I really enjoyed the world the author created in this novel! The magic system was really cool and I loved the bond between our two best friends/FMCs. I've read a lot of books that claim two characters are best friends, but then it doesn't come through in the text. This for sure did, and seeing that the author based that relationship in her real-life best friend was really awesome!

I would've liked the dialogue to feel a bit smoother; the lack of contractions took me out of the story quite a bit, but this was a personal preference. I was also not completely sold on the betrayal that was revealed during the ending of the novel, but I do think this may have to do with reading this book during a reading slump.

Overall, I enjoyed the world-building, the magic, and the bond between Aurora and Genevieve, and I will be reading book two.

This was a good read. I liked the prophecy element, the friendship between Aurora and Genevieve, and the way their magic manifests. Aurora has visions and sees people's auras, and Genevieve can breaks spells and wards and travel through different realms. The pacing felt a little off at times; some things took longer than I expected to happen. I also saw one of the plot twists coming (which could be a good thing because the foreshadowing was there). There were three men who were introduced throughout the story, but not much time was spent with them to develop their characters, and it left me wondering what their purposes are. One is revealed at the very end... but I'm wondering if it could have been woven into the storyline more. If you want a familiar read with a prophecy, forbidden magic, and strong friendships, you'll like this one.

This is one of the best books for needing reminders of what best friends are. The relationship between the two main girls is phenomenal.

Magic, twists and turns, everything you want in a fantasy that doesn't stray too far from home itself. Their own town is their to protect and losing loved ones around you makes things hard.

Alissa's world building is subtle but beautiful and the entwined of self doubt and familial pressures is well done.

Loved it.

AAGHH! CLIFF HANGER WHERE IS BOOK 2😭

“Why is it okay for your two to risk your lives for the entire realm, but I do not get to decide if I risk mine for my best friends?”

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was so beautifully written, the friendships, the potential love interests and of course plot twists. I haven’t read a good FMC friendship book in so long it was so refreshing to see the love friends can have for each other.

A beautiful tale of friendship and elemental magic. This story was the perfect balance of discovery, suspense and triumph. I loved following their journey as they unravelled the hidden truths and their role in the world.

Friendship was the focus over romance and that was really refreshing. I can't wait for book 2, that cliffhanger was huge!

I love this and I can't wait for book two. The world building is amazing and I like how everyone's power describes what they do, like the ones who can control fire are most likely blacksmiths. I love the characters, though I'm sad for Sage, she didn't deserve that. I was surprised with Ronan when I found out he wasn't just a palace guard. The pacing was good and flowed smoothly. Everyone should read this book and I can't wait to continue this journey.
