Despite Brianna Robinson’s conflicted feelings about being back in her small town, she is excited about the opportunity to become head librarian at her local library. Having moved away from Beaver Creek for school and a new outlook on life where she can be herself, she’s not quite sure that the small town life is for her. At least her best friend Nathan is still in town, as is his beautifully distracting sister.
Audrey Mahoney is content with her small circle of friends and even smaller circle of regular activities. It’s not exactly a secret that she could use some new hobbies, and reading has quickly become an escape from her corporate job and the small town where dating choices are far and few in between, not that her brother is any help.
When Brianna runs into Audrey at the library, complicated feelings rise to the surface. While everyone in their town may think that Nathan is perfect for her, it’s really his sister Audrey who Brianna finds herself longing for.
In a sapphic twist on the ‘falling for your best friend’s sibling’ trope, Rochelle Wolf presents a new low stakes, open-door romance set in a small town.

2.5 ⭐️
I’m gutted to admit it, but I didn’t love this 😩 I felt like the chemistry between the two main characters wasn’t fully realised, and a few of the sex scenes felt mechanical.
Audrey & Brianna were both adorable & quite easy to root for, but I was left wanting more from their overall relationship.
This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last. If you enjoy a light story with some sweet romance and a little spice, this is for you. I had a tear in my eye at the so lovely ending.
Some books carry a hidden set of puzzles. Some others simply stand in the quiet simplicity of their plot. Some books hold secrets beneath the surface, while others offer nothing but peace throughout their chapters, with an ending you can already see coming.
Long Overdue is one of those quiet ones. A small-town love story. No puzzles, no tension, just a soft trope that rests your soul very gently. If you’re looking for a quick, light read, and you don’t mind following a non-straight couple, this might be for you.
The story takes place in the small town of Beaver Creek. It revolves around two girls, Briana and Audrey. Briana has just moved back to town and started working at the local library, while Audrey begins to pick up reading as an escape from her corporate job. When the whole town assumes that Audrey’s brother, Nathan, is the perfect match for Briana, things take a turn as Briana ends up falling for Audrey instead.
I like the making of Briana. She’s shy, deeply introverted, a gentle soul who feels right at home as the head of a local library. Her background, growing up without enough attention and care, makes it easy to understand why Audrey’s love feels so meaningful to her.
But at the same time, I don’t feel fully connected to her. There’s no clear explanation of how she lost her family, or how that lack of love shaped her into who she is now. It feels like a missing piece. And honestly, adding a small glimpse into that backstory wouldn’t have turned the novella into a novel.
Her habits, like overexplaining herself and apologizing too often, also appear without much grounding. Without that deeper context, she feels less alive, a little harder to fully connect with.
I’m not sure if other readers would feel the same way about Briana’s characterization, but for me, it’s quite bothering me. Just a few more layers of backstory could have made such a difference, creating a stronger emotional bond between her and the readers.
I had high hopes for this - a cozy, small town, sapphic library best-friend's-sibling story, about Brianna moving back to her hometown for a job as head librarian, where she runs into Audrey, the attractive sister of her bestie, and the flames of pining are re-lit between them.
But the story quickly fell into the trap of 'telling' - every action and reaction spelled out for the reader in short simplistic sentences, getting bogged down in every small detail like the seven steps it takes to greet someone, accept the pizza they've brought for dinner and help them out of their winter gear, every time they come over for dinner (or whatever other thing they were doing).
It was such a noticeable thing that the plot and character development were kicked somewhat to the curb. More page space could have been spent on showing the tension Brianna was feeling in the moment as she was around Audrey, (and vice versa), something more to develop either of their characters outside the relationship (which we barely get to see) and to add some true depth to the plot. The most conflict that arises is a supposedly tough work assignment for Brianna that is hand-waved away over a few pages, while entire chapters are devoted to some spicy scenes. It left me very ambivalent towards either character.
I think it could have gone better to see Brianna anxious about her new job, spreading the big event she's facing across most of the book, with more second guessing - as she thinks it - over putting her time into Audrey or the work task. A nice bit of panic and/or competition to raise the stakes about half way through, some tension with Audrey and / or her brother, then wrapping up with the HEA it already has at the end.
Perhaps more conflict is unusual for cozy reads, but both Brianna and Audrey needed more growth and challenge in my opinion. There were so many way that could have been woven in, but sadly it isn't there.
I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily, and I wish it were better.
Long Overdue is a sweet low/no angst sapphic romance featuring a best friend’s sister trope. The book starts with Brianna moving back to her hometown of Beaver Creek where she has a job lined up to be the head librarian. Brianna seems to be questioning why she was moving back to her hometown, and it wasn’t really ever explained. I struggled to understand how Nathan was her best friend. He seemed really immature and I couldn’t see how they had anything in common. He acted more like a teenager than someone in his 30s. He also has no idea his best friend is attracted to his sister Audrey.
Audrey is a few years younger than Brianna and she still lives at home with her parents. She works from home and her job keeps her tethered to her phone and computer. In an effort to get away from her computer she’s been frequenting the library to check out books, especially sapphic romance books. She’s always found her brother’s best friend Brianna attractive and is happy to see her back in town.
Brianna has never learned to drive, and when Nathan mentions it at his family’s dinner, Audrey offers to teach her. This leads to them spending time together and realizing their mutual attraction. This was a cute story with no drama and plenty of open door spice. Most of the pacing was well done but that first sex scene caught me by surprise and felt like it was just thrown in there. I didn’t think they were at that point yet but all of a sudden it was happening. The writing was third person dual point of view which honestly felt a little clunky and strange at times. This was a quick read that I finished in a couple of sittings. I encourage Rochelle Wolf to keep writing and honing her craft. I give this book 3.5 stars.
Long Overdue by Rochelle Wolf is part of the Library Love Notes series set in the small town of Beaver Creek, Ontario. Brianna returns to her hometown of Beaver Creek from Toronto to accept the position of head librarian. There, she reunites with her best friend Nathan and his lovely younger sister, Audrey. This novella is a sweet, cheesy, no-angst, low-stakes romance with a happily-ever-after ending. It is a quick read and has some spice. I would have liked a bit more insight into Brianna's relationship with her parents and her decision to move back to Beaver Creek. Both of those things were mentioned but not explored. The best friend relationship between Brianna and Nathan was lacking. They didn't seem to talk much or spend time together, and it didn't feel authentic. I assume the short length is why those points were less developed, and the focus was instead on Brianna and Audrey as they became closer. Their relationship was believable for the time frame. It grew organically, and they fit together naturally. Long Overdue was an easy read, and though not my favorite by this author, it was quick and enjoyable for a light HEA. #smalltown #Ontario #Canada #Toronto #romcom #noangst #lowstakes #HEA #epilogue #spicy #bestfriendssister #returntohometown #startingover #library #headlibrarian #books #drivinglessons #socialmediamanager I received a review copy from the author. This is my honest opinion.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a novella and part of the library love notes series of books.
As a Canadian i enjoyed the setting of a rural community of Beaver Creek, Ontario. The novella is focused on the newly hired head librarian who has just returned to her hometown from Toronto. She reunites with her best friend, Nathan, and is reintroduced to his sister, who has had a crush on Brianna forever.
There are tropes of best friends sister, small town romance, and first crush to forever.
The spice level is high and there is fun dynamic between the couple in the bedroom!
I would have rated the book higher if there was additional character development. I would have liked a further exploration into why the FMC left Toronto, a fallout with her parents is mentioned but not delved into - especially when she returns to the town they still live in, and I found the FMC in her 30's who has an important job a touch immature.
It is a novella which makes it more difficult to get into a ton of detail in a short number of pages, so that might be more on my expectations than anything else.
I did find the winter gear and how it is used in Canada funny at first, but it did get repetitive and could have been in less detail in the later chapters.
It’s easy to root for Brianna and Audrey, from the first pages I was waiting to see who got to love Brianna. Packing a whole story into 150 pages is quite the feat and overall it was a fun romp through Beaver Creek! (I’m giggling, tongue-in-cheek, for writing that)🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I’m not sure I really believed Nathan as a best friend, but he was a good vehicle for connecting Audrey and Brianna. Definitely entertained by the extra depictions of Canadian winter wear, overkill for me, but I’ve lived it. ❄️❄️
I don’t know why, but it took me ages to remember which woman was which, I had to keep double checking whose perspective it was and solidifying the characters in my head. I honestly don’t know if that was me, the delivery style l or a combination of the two. It distracted me a bit at the beginning, but didn’t impact my enjoyment of the book overall.
It was cute, spicy and so Brianna and Audrey. I’m glad I got a chance to read this story and if it’s any indication of what can be expected by the other authors in the Library Love Notes stories, then I can’t wait to see who is up next.
This was my first time reading this type of trope and I didnt not like it let alone like it too much. I haven't read much of lgbtq+ books, but have read some with side characters that are lgbtq+. I don't have a lot of knowledge on topics but will start to include more now into my tbr list.
I like that both MCs had the same mutual feels for each other but didn't know their sexual orientation. Brianna is a soft spoken character but was willing to go out of her comfort zone to learn something new. Just for her best friends sister to help her learn something new which was out of the normal for Audrey.
I love the awkward interactions between them because the more they continued the more the became comfortable to share what they had feelings for each other. But I wish we got to see more scenes in the car from Brianna learning. No major drama that prevented them from ever finding out about their feelings and getting together
I will definitely keep reading from this author as I have loved the pacing, the character building, and the support that was there for the characters.
This is a cute story about Brianna, a librarian in her 30s who has returned to her home town. She starts taking driving lessons from Audrey who is her best friend's younger sister. The women reconnect - although they weren't really friends as children. The author does a good job describing Beaver Creek and the changes Brianna is going through by making this move. I wish we had a run-in with her parents though.
I did not like the "nicknames" the women give each other and I really disliked the way the other characters felt like they had to talk about the nicknames.
The spice is a 3.5/5. This is a fairly quick read and I can't wait for the other books in this series to come out.
Long Overdue by Canadian indie author Rochelle Wolf is a best friend's sister, small town, sapphic romance. It is the first of seven interconnected books in the Library Love Notes series by Canadian indie authors.
For the position of head librarian, thirty-year-old Brianna has upended her whole life to move from Toronto back to her hometown of Beaver Creek, Ontario.
Twenty-six-year-old Audrey, who happily still lives at home with her parents (free rent and food!), has been determined to get back into reading physical books to escape being on her computer or phone, which she chronically is for work.
When the two collide during Brianna's first day of working at the library, bringing back past feelings, their story starts.
Brianna was Audrey's childhood crush. She doesn't necessarily want to bring this up right away, but Audrey would like to have another friend to hang out with, especially one who likes books. Brianna is intrigued by the gorgeous Audrey, but she is Nathan's friend, not his sisters. And Nathan has made it clear he will never choose between his family and his close friends.
So when the opportunity presents itself for Audrey to help her brother by offering to give Brianna driving lessons, she quickly volunteers for the chance to spend time with Brianna, the hot librarian, and get to know her better.
Long Overdue. I like how this title is both a library reference and a way to describe the relationship between Brianna and Audrey.
I enjoyed the Canadian/Ontario references in this book. The GO train, Canada Post, the TTC, Ontario legislation. And hope to have more throughout the series.
I was intrigued by the romance book event Brianna plans, and I wonder if this will be tied into the other books in this series.
I am now very much looking forward to reading the rest of this series and seeing how the authors connect these books. I am already guessing which characters in this book will pop up in the next ones.
I wanted to love this book because there was so much potential. Where the book fell short for me was how much the one character belittled herself. I feel where the book is a quick read, the character should have had more self growth and self love.
What I loved about this book was the banter and how relatable the characters are. I wished there was a little more back story of the main characters. However, with the length of the book I understand why it lacked in that sense.
I am planning on reading more books written by the author because there is a lot of potential in the flow of writing and future of stories. Worth reading, due to the banter, relatable characters and being able to devour within one sitting.
ARC Review Long Overdue is the first book in the Library Love Notes series. Each book is written by a different Canadian Indie author and set in the fictional town of Beaver Creek, Ontario. I enjoyed this book! It was cozy, sweet and spicy. I thought the author did a wonderful job of capturing the nerves and excitement of meeting someone new. The main characters felt real to me in their journey to meeting and gradually growing closer. I would have liked to see even more of some of the events that happened in the book. The characters put a lot of work into them and I would have loved to learn more about them. I loved the Canadian aspects of the book. Overall, I would recommend this book and can’t wait to continue with the series!
Moving back to your hometown can be scary, but sometimes it opens new doors for opportunities (or old doors once thought shut). And you get to be the hot librarian, learning to drive with the sister of your best friend (who has been crushing on you) and you have an open and shut book, or do you?
Both Audrey and Brianna are enigmatic characters in this tale, forget the car lessons and book chats, this goes deeper into their personalities and dynamics than that!
As per Rochelle’s style, this is impeccably written and will be shelved with great care in libraries everywhere. Let me dream ok? They are a favourite author of mine. I may be biased on this…
Adorable small town romance between her best friend's sister.
Brianna moved back to her small town and is excited about becoming head librarian, she ends up running into her best friend's sister. Audrey is lovable, lives at home and does a lot of work which keeps her close to her phone and laptop.
Audrey has always had a crush on Brianna so when she needs driving lessons she's very eager to help.
The romance between these two was slow as they were hesitant at first but then flowed really quick and they were really cute together.
I'm really happy with how it ended and loved seeing the family banter between them.
Thank you for this lovely ARC. I am so excited to read the whole series.
Brianna best friend Nathan has a sister name Audrey who is secretly in love with Brianna.
Brianna doesn’t drive Nathan said she should learn so she told him to find her someone to teach her how to drive. When Audrey hear Nathan mention Brianna needed a teacher she volunteered her service
Audrey still lives at home with her parents in her childhood bedroom.
Driving lesson didn’t last long instead things heated up between the two FMC.
Well this was a fun read with no breakup I love a happy story. Audrey got her long life crush and loved her deeply. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Long Overdue by Rochelle Wolf is a sweet sapphic small-town romance that follows Brianna and Audrey as they reconnect after Brianna moves back home. Already familiar with each other through Brianna’s friendship with Audrey’s brother Nathan, the two slowly find themselves drawn together as their relationship develops over time.
The romance unfolds in a gentle and heartfelt way, making it easy to root for them as they navigate their growing connection. While I enjoyed the story overall, I did feel there were a few areas of the characters’ backgrounds and motivations that could have been explored more deeply. Even so, it was an enjoyable and comforting read for fans of small-town romance.
I really wanted to love this one. Small town sapphic romance with a cute librarian, set in Canada? Everything I should love. Unfortunately the writing style really did a disservice to the novella itself. So much effort was put into unnecessary details that cluttered the story, and the majority of the book was tell and not show.
A lot of the chemistry between the two leads felt forced and unnatural and I despite reading through this one quickly, I found myself not invested in the love story at all.
*****
I was sent a complimentary advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
- Brothers best friend - Best friends sister - Sapphic - Librarian MC - open door spice - ‘good girl’
This was such a quick read, 2 hours max. I sat down and I didn’t move. I’m obsessed with Rochelle and how they write and I have yet to read anything by them that is not pure perfection.
You’ll love Brianna & Audrey in this spicy story. They’re both sweet in personality but they’re both spicy in the bedroom and it was fun to watch their personalities shift.
First time reading sapphic romance by this author and I actually enjoyed it. Loved that the setting was located in rural Ontario, has a best friend from the same place and that she's in love with his sister. It also has some spice to book if you're curious. I did stretch my time reading this with taking a week because it would of been a quick read usually on my list. I'll make sure to add another book by this author on my tbr list and see if its just as good
I received this book as an ARC. I really wanted to love this book, but it just didn’t do it for me. While I did love the concept, the characters felt too juvenile for their age and the story and relationship between Audrey and Brianna didn’t flow in a natural way. Things felt forced at times. I also feel like there was a missed opportunity of Brianna running into certain people. But that’s just my opinion! If you enjoy sapphic love stories and a best friend’s sister trope in a small town setting, you might enjoy this book.
3⭐3🌶️ Dual POV Third Person 171pgs Library Love Notes, multi author series, #1 🇨🇦 Authors, settings, and characters Brianna and Audrey A short, sweet and spicy read with little to no Angst. I was expecting more interactions between Brianna and Nathan, and her grandfather. I'm the beginning Nathan tried to warn them off of dating, but then later it's not really a big deal? Would have liked more depth into B's fam and why she left T.O.
3.5 stars. This short sapphic romance was cute, but felt like it was not quite right for me. I realized it was mostly just connecting to the characters- i felt like we really didn’t know Audrey outside of her being one half of the couple and Brianna felt like a little too much of the meek librarian stereotype for my usual strong, bold independent woman kind of taste. I think someone will definitely recognize themself in Brianna but that someone is not me
A small-town read with one woman and her best friend’s little sister getting their chance. It was kind of cute and cozy, but it also felt a bit clunky. Individually, I liked each of the characters, but I wasn’t actually feeling any of the ‘romance’. I feel like the author fell into the trap of telling the story rather than showing…
Thanks Rochelle, for the advance copy. It was ok, a good effort, but needs some fine-tuning.
Thank you Rochelle Wolf for sharing this ARC with me and getting me to try a new genre. If I had not stepped out of my comfort zone I would have missed this fun story. A gorgeous librarian and her best friend's sister find romance in their small town. This is the first in a series of books. Open door, dual POV, and small town.
This was the first in the Library Love Notes Series and I was able to receive an ARC for the series. It was a novella size and a pretty quick read. I know novellas don’t usually allow for lots of character development but this one could have used a bit more. I didn’t quite connect with the characters. It was a great concept but everyone felt detached.
Wow another phenomenal story, I loved the main characters their connection was embedded beautifully throughout the story, as it all unfolded perfectly balanced with so much depth to each character it was impossible to put down definitely must read congratulations
What a gorgeous and cozy book! I received this as an arc, not sure what to expect but I adored it! The love the blossoms between Audrey and Brianna is absolutely breathtaking and who doesn’t love a cute librarian! I can’t wait to read more from this author and the next books in the series!
This was my first read from this Author and it won’t be my last! I was able to pre read this as an Arc and it was adorable! I love how it was based in a small town as I myself am from a small town! Thank you for the opportunity to read this and see their story unfold
Such a fun light hearted read. Really enjoyed the easy connection between the main characters. The perfect rom com , books, libraries and best friend’s siblings! I do wish it was longer
