This volume introduces us to Ban, our third Seven Deadly Sin and probably the hottest one (yep, fine with admitting that under a slash). He's probably going to be the character that will make me quake in my boots every time he comes on screen (you know, the good kind of quaking). Why can't Ban be the Sin of Lust?

As you can see, my fangirl hormones aren't in check. GAH! CURSE YOU HORMONES!

Here are some photos to celebrate my newly acquired manga/anime crush!

Following the first volume, I finally got a bit more used to the sense of humour (oriented around perverts) in this series. While not the most hilarious thing ever, I was able to overlook it a bit more to find the story entertaining.

This time around more of the Seven Deadly Sins and Holy Knights are introduced. They make for some interesting confrontations and action-packed moments.

There are some really nice artwork moments here and then as well that makes for a quick and enjoyable read.

4.3/5 ~ Week 2 / The story goes on and we have a new character intro, the pace is slightly slower than the first one but it’s still an amazing and eventful volume.
See ya next week 😉

You can always count on the Japanese to take a religiously charged concept from the West, such as the seven deadly sins, and turn it into a superhero series. But hey, it works - except when the good guys are acting like lechers for the sake of it.

So the clashes begin with the holy knights but if you think that the fights will be with just swords and axes you are very wrong there is magic beyond imagination and normal level of thinking

Still not overly connecting to the manga of this series, maybe because I know I only have 10 volumes so I won't be reading anything new, hopefully i can get into this like I did the anime

4/5 Stars (%75/100)

A pretty solid volume. Gilthunder is introduced and he is one of the most interesting side characters. Meliodas tricks Gilthunder and learns about the location of Ban and King, two members of the Sins. There are a lot of small fights and they are mostly hilarious rather than serious fights. One of my favorite characters in the entire series Ban is introduced and he is great. Overall, it was a really good volume full of action and humor.

*Spoiler Warning*
The second volume was just as good as the first one! New characters were introduced, and the plot continues to thicken!
The art is still excellent, and the character designs are continuing to be good.
Gilthunder seems like a promising character, and one that already has some depth after only one confrontation with the main characters. Ban is also a promising character but he is more interesting to me. It seems as if he if a somewhat "playful" guy in a menacing way, and he's not a very kind person. Meliodas's character continues to elude that there is something in his past that has been haunting him and I can't wait to know more. Elizabeth's character has seen a new development; she has now grown out of her stereotypical caring princess mold and I couldn't be happier! It also seems like her sympathetic personality could be a flaw as well as a strength. Jericho is an overconfident character and I hope she will be revisited.
Chapter 6 picks up right where chapter 5 is left off. It officially introduces Gilthunder as a character and gives us some insight into him.
Chapter 7 shows us that Meliodas isn't as immune to wounds as we thought he was, which proves to be interesting. I hope later on in the series it'll show us the limits to his strength and some sort of weakness. This chapter also shows us what's awaiting for us at Baste prison, and it made me wonder how the Sins were going to handle it. Especially since that Weird Fangs order seems like bad news. Also this chapter made me wonder about Ban's character cause this man has been tortured for y e a r s and yet he finds it in himself to hum.
Chapter 8 shows us Meliodas and Diane's past and it shows to us that Meliodas also has an over caring and sympathatic nature that seems to rival Elizabeth's. It also shows us that Diane is incredibly scared of bugs and that she will overcome her fears if it means helping the people she cares for. I hope that later on in the series this'll be put to the test. I also found it interesting that Diane and Elizabeth want to do what the other can do.
Chapter 9 helps us see just how far the Holy Knights will go to get rid of the Seven Deadly Sins. It also shows us that Ban seems somewhat immortal and I can't wait for that to be explained! Especially since the only wound he has was caused by Meliodas's sword; it makes me intrigued as to what's so special about this sword. This chapter also makes me wonder what each of the Sins did to be branded with the marks of beasts, especially Meliodas.
Chapter 10 proved to us that Elizabeth's caring nature knows almost no bounds and it makes me wonder as to how Meliodas's wound healed so quickly. I hope that will be explained later on.
Chapter 11 also showed us that Elizabeth's caring nature knows no bounds. This chapter also gave some insight into Meliodas's past and it makes me wonder what type of bond he had with the woman who died. It amazes me that Meliodas can be so casual with all this violence and I hope this will be explored later on. Also, I wondered what Diane had been doing this whole time, apparently she can't remember a thing that's happened since she left Dalmally.
Chapter 12 made me curious as to what would happen now that both Diane and Meliodas were under the Holy Knight's spell and were both fighting each other! I also worried for Sennett because I didn't know what Ban was going to do.
Chapter 13 I liked this chapter as it showed us that Ban certainly isn't the greatest person and is very insensitive to others (he already did that by striping Jericho of her armor but us seeing it solidifies it). I also love this chapter as Elizabeth proves to be true to her word and also is smarter than she seems. This chapter also showed us just how cruel the Holy Knight, Ruin, is and it was frightening to see how he behaved.
Chapter 14 was awesome! We further get to see how strong Meliodas and the Holy Knights are, which was pretty awesome to see and we get see that Ban is basically immortal which is gonna make for a pretty interesting back story.
Overall, this was a great installment in the series and I can't wait to read the next volume. My one problem however is if Meliodas could take all those hits from Ruin then how could he get seriously injured from a slash of a sword mixed with lightening? Seems pretty unrealistic and it doesn't add up. I would recommend this manga to people who are interested in or are looking for a story with lots of action, adventure, and fantasy. I wouldn't recommend this manga to people who aren't interested in the fanasty genre, to people who don't care for voilence, and blood, and to people who may be uncomfortable with some perverted or suggestive moments.

Full disclosure: I have this edition (978-1-64651-751-0) and don't feel like it's necessarily worth going through the process to add this as a separate entry:

Five Below edition of The Seven Deadly Sins 2

I haven't read this series before (else I would have worked harder to find book 1) or seen the anime, but given the treatment for Fairy Tail 2, I expect it's functionally identical to the original version. I mean, why wouldn't it be? Buy the rights and printer files to a book, slap your company's logo on the front, change the bar code+ISBN = DONE! Cheap book for significantly low cost of production! Changing things would add effort!

That said, I... don't really like it much. I don't HATE it like similar titles where the main character is openly sexually abusive,* but I can't say I love it. Maybe it's from not having picked up the lore due to starting with the second book, but it just feels like any in medias res episode of countless OTHER series I've read/watched before. Just draw over a different face for each character, and I swear it would be an EXACT clone of some other series.

Probably the one thing that makes this stand out otherwise is Diane is a LITERAL GIANT! About the only other major female giant character I can think of off the top of my head is My Hero Academia's Mt. Lady, but she can control her size; Diane can't (and wishes to be small). Part of me wonders if that could be considered a disability, but I don't want to go TOO wild tagging every random thing that vaguely fits.

Anyway, not sure if I can recommend this. Definitely sort of a thing where I'd have to see where it starts—missing the set-up feels like missing a LOT, actually, even if I can still basically follow what's going on.

*"What about how Natsu or Shiki flagrantly manhandle their respective huge-busted co-stars?" Both are clearly asexual and seem to treat privates as a punchline rather than a fetish, so it's *different (and RARE) enough* that I put up with it. (Also, Lucy and Rebecca put up a fight when they get manhandled like that.)

The second installment of The Seven Deadly Sins by Nakaba Suzuki is more interesting than the first one. The first one was a lot of set up and did not require any investment in the characters or even so much the plot. At the end of the first book I found myself a little indifferent and kept reading mostly because I had seen the anime and knew I had enjoyed the overall story arc.

It is in the second book that we begin to see some character depth revealed for those of the ensemble cast we have thus far been introduced to, Meliodas, Elizabeth, and Diane. We are also introduced to another of the Seven Deadly Sins, Ban, and to a host of Holy Knights, the most interesting of which is Gilthunder. A bit of back story is revealed for Meliodas and Diane, making for the beginning of solid character investment. Elizabeth becomes a more rounded character, enhancing her likeability and making her seem like less of a throw away filler. The adversaries, the Holy Knights, continue to come across as two dimensional, except for Gilthunder, whose character seems to promise further development in future volumes.

The story itself begins to pick up in pace and action sequences. The art style is perfect for this, as it is a little messy and every line seems to insinuate movement. Because it is volume two in an ongoing series there isn’t really a story arc, it is merely a moving forward of story line. It keeps a good balance between character development and back story with the fight and action scenes. It also does not feel choppy in the story telling when it jumps back and forth between what’s happening in Dalmally and what’s happening at Baste Prison.

I am continuing to withhold my opinion about the world building. There is magic and it appears to be a soft magic system, so I’m interested to see what kind of limitations, if any, are enforced. The world itself seems full of possibilities for adventure and imagination but it is a plain world thus far. The characters that dwell within it are what make it magical so far.

I believe the story is better at keeping the readers attention here in the second volume. I do caution that there is an innate perviness in the story line and the story may not be appropriate for all age groups. I sometimes find the humor juvenile. I am, however, intrigued enough to want to keep reading and to see how everything develops, to find out if everything lives up to its budding, promised potential.

The second volume of the manga that was made into an anime of the same name. The first volume covered episodes 1 and 2 and part of episode 3. This volume covered the rest of episode three and then went on to cover episodes 4, 5, and the beginning of 6.

This volume introduces my favorite character - Ban. Not gonna lie it's because he's drawn totally hot. Also, his story during the first season of the anime is so romantic (and really stays super touching, sweet, and romantic during the entire show).

One place where the books are falling down while the show is excelling is in the fight scenes. This manga is in black in white and sometimes it is very difficult to understand what is happening. If I had not already watched the fights happen on the show I might be very confused about what was going on.

So, it is supposedly a series listed as middle grade which I assume is like 10 to 14 or something. If we get past the violence, there is still an awful lot of sexual adjacent stuff between Meliodas and Elizabeth - groping and non-consensual space invasion like lifting her skirt. This was present in the first book but then I was thinking that things would not get much past that like they do in the show. But this volume of the manga brought up some hints at rape during the prison scenes where guards are considering doing that (implied) to the Doctor's daughter.

This manga differs from the show in that Ban is the one who frees Sennett (the doctor's daughter) but then when he does he also robs her which is in character as he is a bandit but in doing so he also makes it very creepy, looking like he saved her from one rapist only to take his place in the act.

Not cool Ban, not cool.

I love the show and the reason I am reading the manga now is because I know that there are things that were not covered in the show, especially in later episodes during the second season. I am still loving the books even with the slightly rapey volume. But hey I'm an adult that read portions of 50 shades of Grey, The Handmaid's tale, and Outlander. If you have a middle-grades kid who wants to read the series.... IDK it might not actually be for kids.

Fox Sin of Greed: Baaaaan!
I already like him, I hope he lives up to my expectations throughout the series

I still don't like the pervy shit. I'll just be ignoring it now and forever, or until it annoys me too much.
I don't like that the girls are willing to sacrifice for Melodias. I think it's supposed to be because he is a leader and has the best interest at heart, but they're already sexualized, can't they just not be following men around too?

Random thoughts while reading:
-Holy Knight Gilthunder. Interesting connection. Wonder if he'll ever learn the truth an be reacquainted. He only knows what he's been told about the death of his father, not the truth.
-Ban asking to look at Melodias' sword...
-"You wanna know how I got these scars?"
-I think every one of seven deadly sins has a dark backstory. Ban basically let himself be captures cause he wanted to suffer. He probably felt like he deserved punishment for something. I'm intrigued.
-I really like Ban, I hope isn't flawed (like perv Melodias). And not because he's half naked this whole volume. He gives evil vibes and I like it

I went to my local library and since I haven't continued the Seven Deadly Sins series, I just had to! I loved how we got introduced to more Sins/learned more about some. I can't wait to pick up the third one ( I wish I got it ) and continue this manga series because I'm really enjoying it! I think I honestly prefer this one over the first one because Meliodas was too weird in the first one ( he still was in this one but just not as bad ).
