John Setser has done his homework. This book is filled with many accounts of psychological and physical abuse (done to staff members) within the church, across multiple denominations. For those who have experienced this pain first-hand, this book offers comfort, reassurance that it isn't your fault, and best of all - encouragement and hope for reconciliation between you and God's people. (Not necessarily at the church where it happened!)
John has a website devoted to this sad issue in the church, and he encourages those in the midst of this pain to seek help (whether that's leaving the position, seeking therapy, reporting abuse, etc.) You can contact him directly, too, which I have on many occasions. Setser is a compassionate man of God who has provided a much-needed support system to those who have experienced horrifying betrayal in the "safety" of the church family. I encourage everyone who has experienced this type of abuse to read his book and support his ministry.

This book sheds much needed light on a dark and seldom broacged subject. Although the author seems biased against some church models, blaming them for the problem, the book itself gives great information, has authentic stories and practical advice for those caught in spiritually abusive church relationships. Thus is recommended reading for those considering ministry anywhere.
