Jared is determined to earn the center forward spot on his new soccer team, but he faces fiercer competition than expected. Mark is taller, stronger, and his prowess on the field is unmatched. Worse, Mark’s cocky, smug attitude makes Jared want to punch him in the face. A battle for supremacy on the field begins that both Jared and Mark are determined to win. Jared despises his nemesis, but fate pushes them together and Jared learns there is more behind Mark’s hostility than he guessed. Hate at First Sight is a story about friendship and love found in the most unlikely places.
Usually. Sometimes the game brings them together. But always the differences exaggerate and hide the love for each other and just being together. Winning us important, but being is most important. Skill is needed, but love of the game and the players makes it all worthwhile, even if some players do not have the skills to play well. Thoughts get buried in your head and change everything. But even the worst player cam score while the best players are blocked. It is truly a head game for the players.
Another great YA novel from Mark Roeder. Mark Roeder is once again a master storyteller of YA fiction in his new novel Hate At First Sight. Where two alpha male teens vie for top position on the soccer field. Fierce competition, a tragic past and teen rivalry can't keep love at bay in this coming of age story between the soccer coach's son and the new kid in town who's determined to lead the team to a championship year.
I've always believed Mark Roeder's YA novels should be available to every gay and straight teen to enjoy. And Mr. Roeder's just added another to the library with this one.
A great book for the young and the young at heart!
So I'm trying to read books that I've had on my Kindle forever. At first I thought this was a bit too young adult for me but it grew on me. I kept reading because I wanted to know what the deal was with Mark.
Not sure what to make of Dylan. I get he feels empowered by what he's doing but I don't think Dylan was a good role model for young, gay boys. Can I say that the cover model on the left with the dark hair and white wife beater looks like a young Mark Cuban and that's a bit freaky. If I had a gay teenage son, I wouldn't want him reading this book. On second thought, if I had a straight teenage son, I wouldn't want him to read this book either.
This is my first book by Mark Roeder and I am glad I tried it. I enjoyed the story and characters. The soccer rivalry, the new kid in town drama, and the 'does he like me I think I like him' theme were all fun. I kept wondering and guessing as to what made Mark tick all the way u till the reveal, so that was don well. There was also a nice safe sex message hidden in the narrative that didn't feel forced. My only concern or feedback would be that YA audiences, and especially adult readers, don't need to have main points repeated so often. The audiobook reader was awesome and I will read another of his books. A good read.
I received an Amazon gift card and decided to use it to catch up on some of Mark's book that I'd not yet read. This was one of the lot and so far the one that I've enjoyed the most. It features the rivalry between the sons of two of Mark Roeder's characters that have been best friends since the earliest books. Here their sons start as instant rivals and, unlike their fathers, both boys are gay.
There's also a irrepressible very stereotypical gay character named Dylan that adds a bit of fun to the tale.
I enjoyed reading Roeder for the first time. I wanted more of Jared, Dylan and the rest of the Bloomington North High Soccer team! This has to be a series!
