After a massive meteor destroys Chicago and millions of people, a talented graduate student researching a series of recent close passing meteors, discovers that the Chicago meteor came to earth on an impossible trajectory, through the middle of the sun, the United States military sets out to discover how, and in the process learns that it was only the opening salvo of a war we had no way to know was coming. Now it was up to the world to band together and find a way to fight a threat that was technologically superior, and apparently bent on wiping out all life on earth.
