Caleb Montgomery has been in love with his roommate forever, but has kept silent out of fear. He’d agreed to a sexual relationship, in the hopes that she’d change her mind, but she never did. On the eve of Valentine’s Day, he decides he can no longer live in silence, and plans to tell her the truth on the day of love.
Tall, curvy, Marianne Harris has always known she wasn’t Caleb’s type, but when he offered her a friend’s with benefits relationship, she couldn’t say no. The approach of Valentine’s Day reminds her of how they met, and what her fate will be when Caleb finds the one.
When Caleb finds out Marianne contacted the Matchmaker for a date, anger and jealousy replace his fear and he lets her go without a fight. Marianne knows she must take drastic measures, or she’ll never be able to move on, but her heart aches for her bear. When two bears who love each other keep silent, the Matchmaker steps in and helps a bear in trouble.
So wasn't what I was expecting. It was too short for starters. Then to have only one of them hit up the Matchmaker? So wasn't worth Ruby's other books.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The tension of unspoken love and jealousy drives this story with emotional honesty. Caleb and Marianne’s complex relationship feels authentic and the intervention of a “Matchmaker” adds a sweet, lighthearted touch. The book balances romance with internal struggles nicely.
Caleb was introduced to us in the previous book in the series. He finally got the courage to make his true feelings known. Marianne loves Caleb as well but doesn't want to upset the friends with benefits. She lies about her Valentines Day plans and Caleb thinks he'll lose her. All works out in the end thanks to the Matchmaker.
Roommates and bear shifters Marianne and Caleb have been friends with benefits for a year. Both are in love with each other, both recognize each other as mates, but neither realizes how the other feels nor want to risk their friendship talking about it. So when Marianne has had enough and disappears, Caleb knows he's ready to risk everything to have her.
Another quick and interesting read - it's not particularly exciting, but I didn't hate it. I did however despite Marianne's antics. I'm not a huge fan of the big misunderstanding that could easily be avoided if one or the other character chose not to be a coward and just talk about it. Instead, that person goes to great lengths to run and avoid the problem. And I'm sorry, but if you love someone and you're leaving them...if what you really want is for them to come after you, you don't make it impossible for them to find you. What's the point? Just additional angst for a story and it was obvious. At least Caleb found the cajones to actually talk it out.

I loved this book, Caleb and Marianne are a perfect couple. Both in love with the other but so afraid to tell each other. Bring in the Matchmaker and you end up with a beautiful romance full of hot hot hot mating. I loved this second book in the Shadow Bears series. The author has a way with words that draws you into the story and keeps you there till the very end. I love her books because even though the mates have problems, the problems get solved and there is always an HEA. I highly recommend this book, this series and this author to everyone I know you will enjoy these books as much as I do. Be sure to pick up your copy today, you will be very glad that you did!!!
Kindle Unlimited read. Series of standalone books. This is the 2nd book and although you don't have to, I'd recommend reading Bear in Love first. They've been having a friends with benefits relationship for over a year and both want a change. When she moves out, will he be able to convince her that she's who he wants? Solid quick story.
It's not as good as the first books of this particular series, but it was still so much to read!!!! It is very sweet! I hope that there is more to come from this series! This is a can't miss author!!!
A short and sweet romantic story celebrating Valentine's Day. I really liked the couple and had previously read the sister's story. They both love each other but hide their true feelings for fear of getting hurt. Honesty leads to happiness.
Ruby Shae's books are short and easy to read. I have enjoyed each one as much as the last. This series goes hand in hand with the time of year, as they are centered around Valentine's day.
This was way better than the first one. Not by a huge amount. At least these characters interacted and were together and it made a bunch more sense. :)
