Gimme the next one
I had so many questions before. And now I have so many more. My brain is working overtime trying to figure out how can this story end. We were heading towards a happy ending and now it is really just smoke. I am heartbroken, confused and desperate. I need the last book so bad to get answers and to easy the grip on my heart.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is the third book in the Book of Legion. You have to have read Dust and Flowers, and Grace and Blood, or you are going to be very lost. These novellas are made to be read in order. We are back with Legion and Savannah. He is in the hospital septic and close to dying. Savannah is left with no choice after her brother has had CPS take Mercy from Legion and has put him in the best place for him knowing that he will now live and is home at the Ashby Ranch with Mercy. He is disoriented and missing time when he wakes up and finds out the only way he can be released is to go home with Savannah to the ranch. His MC is basically saying get it together or your out because they are not happy about the sheriff being at their gate and now sniffing around. He has lost his brand to infection and is a little lost. He has no choices in this book. Off he goes to the ranch and tries his hardest to make the best of it. One sister is the mom of a Ashby daughter, the other is now living in the lap of luxury and is thriving. Getting riding lessons and has all the best that money can offer. For whatever reason, Cash, has a soft spot for Mercy. He can see a chance for her and is willing to give it to her. Savannah though has done all she can do and now has her man in her home, and she can finally see a future for them that just isn't stole moments at the Silo. This is where you learn how Legion became a member of the Dry Bones MC and why Savannah's mom was so fascinated I'll say, but maybe I should say obsessed with Legion. Now I need to know what is going to happen next like I need my next breath. Thank goodness you don't have to wait long for this book.

In this book I feel like the story has taken a slower pace from the chaos we've endured in the previous books but don't get cozy. In this book we get flashbacks of Legion and Savannah's relationship as their love grows and evolves over the years. We take a deep dive into Legion's head and how his life has played out over the years with the decision and choices he's made, the consequences to those actions.

I went into Smoke and Honey expecting tension, obsession, and chaos… and it absolutely delivered — just in a heavier, more emotional way than pure chaos.
This one goes a lot deeper, giving us backstory I loved learning about. My heart broke for Legion — then and now. He isn’t just intense; he’s shaped by everything that happened to him, and his actions make sense even when they hurt.
The dynamic between him and Savannah feels more complicated here and honestly more real. It’s not just attraction anymore — it’s attachment tangled with fear, loyalty, and damage.
I really enjoyed the pacing as it leans into the emotion — the kind that sneaks up on you and wrecks you later.
Still addictive, still chaotic, and still hot as sin, but this one hurt more… and that’s exactly why it stuck with me. Bring on the final book and the truths.

And this one? Just like the ones before it, it tears you open and keeps ripping your heart out.
The emotional depth in this installment is unreal. Getting more of Legion’s backstory, finally understanding why he is the way he is, was handled so perfectly. The way J.A. Huss unfolds his past and connects it to the present storyline is masterful. Every revelation hits hard.
This series just keeps escalating. Emotionally, psychologically, and plot-wise. I don’t know how she keeps doing it, but each book somehow cuts deeper than the last.

This installment slowed down the exterior action and focused more on just Savannah and Legion as we see Legion come out the other side of a major health scare. It put a lot of things in perspective for him, and there is a lot of introspection and taking a step back to finally look at things with a clear lens when for all these years both Legion and Savannah chose to have selective memory. I am so fascinated with Eleanor, Savannah’s deceased mother who is truly the catalyst for just about everything. Even from beyond the grave, she is orchestrating life events and legacies. What was her real purpose outside of taking a million pictures of both Savannah and Legion? The cliffhanger ending was one I had a feeling was coming and truly is the tamest of them all but could have the largest impact on this whole story. We’ll see.

Baffling...
Did I misunderstand your EOB after the first installment? At the beginning of this, the 4th installment, I was 100% certain- as I sat on my hands to discourage the nail biting- that I was down to the last two and then it would be all over. Already trying to figure out what I could find to fill the hole in my chest these characters and their story were sure to leave. But now, though I dare not dream, I cannot fathom how you could wrap this story up in one more installment!? There were already so many different fronts that needed to faced, vague and barely skimmed-over secrets that need to be rooted out brought to light... and now, with how you ended #4?? How in the name of, are you going to do it in 130+ pages? This will be one long friggin weeeeeek- but I'll see ya then!

In this serial story we find out so many new things but we are also learning to navigate new issues. Legion gets a really bad infection in his brand. He is so sick he almost dies. Savannah must fight not only for Leigon but also for his sister Mercy. He brother has taken it upon himself to get custody of Mercy for his own reasons that are still not clear. He is kind to her and giving her everything but for what purpose we still do not know. Savannah is trying to keep Legion and Mercy safe at all costs. The emotions in this installment are perfection. Savannah is trying to find her way with the man she loves while also figuring out how to get out from her families thumb. Can she find common ground. Can she be everything that Legion needs? I guess you will have to read to find out.

After the major cliffhanger in the 3rd installment of this series, we finally get a glimpse into the relationship Legion had with Savannah's mother when he was growing up. Savannah's family name garners some major medical resources to help him heal from a near death experience. He has little choice but to accept the Ashby's hospitality as he recovers since the Badlands have turned their back on him. Cash, Savannah's brother, appears to be embracing a relationship with Mercy, Legion's 8 year old sister. Mercy loves the luxuries Cash has lavished on her, and Legion seems to be accepting them much to Savannah's surprise, but our author has kept Legion's true feelings a mystery at this point.
Tensions and problems escalate when Legion returns to the Badlands, but we're left hanging over the edge again!

There’s only one book left, so I’m interested in how everything is going to wrap up. I have plenty of questions left unresolved.

OMG what a read. This book, wow. This book had me from the start and there was no putting it down no matter what needed to be done. This book needed to be read, immediately. It moves along at a pace that made for an amazing read, speeding up and slowing down as needed. These characters, wow, no matter what happens or what they do, you will love them. This book is fantastic and needs to be read. No doubt about it, you will not be sorry that you did.

Smoke and Honey by JA Huss reveals more secrets that answer the lingering questions and dives deeper into Legion’s past. I loved getting more of his backstory, and the dynamic between him and Savannah remains intense, possessive, and utterly addictive. I can’t wait to dive into the final book in this series.
This book—and the entire series—is an absolute must-read. Each installment leaves you desperate to see what happens next.

Noooo....
....I need the next episode like now lol. This story drags you in and keeps you invested. I feel like I am there with Legion and Savannah every step! The story is so good and the spice is off the charts! I keep trying to see how all this is going to play out, but I know, no matter what I think up, Julie is going to take so far beyond! These serials are some of my favorite stories in a long while!

This weekly series is both engaging and heartwrenching. The characters have taken up residence in my heart and I am hanging until Friday and this weeks installment lands. To be honest I cannot see how Legion and Savannah's story can be wrapped up in one more book, that said, Julie is a brilliant and accomplished author so who knows what will happen.

Deeper and deeper in the isolation and loneliness we go. I can't put my finger on what is wrong in all the relationships but loneliness is the first word that comes to my mind when reading this fourth part. We dive deeper into Legend's head, and there's that feeling of floating, of needing to make decisions. But then again, choosing is renuncing... (No I am not crying... yet!)

This series keeps getting better. Legion did you really just do that. Loving this! This book smoothed out the characters just to rough things up a bit. And there are still so many family secrets I need answers too. I definitely recommend this series!

This series has me gripped!
Legion is the type of MC that stays with you and I'm more than happy with that 😏. As for Savannah, I'm also more than happy for her to take up space in my head!
There's no denying you could shake Legion at times!! But these two belong together and I love them!
