He planned to use me. Not to get me pregnant. Now he wants to claim us both.
One night. That’s all it was supposed to be. Liam Stone walked into my life—and straight into my company—with an agenda I don’t trust. Men like him don’t make moves without a reason. And they don’t play fair.
I didn’t build my career by falling for charm. While the entire office swoons, I fight him where it matters. In the boardroom.
But my mind and my body are at war. Because he’s arrogant. Calculating. And dangerously hard to resist.
Then that one reckless night catches up with me.
He came to New York for revenge. I just didn’t know I was the leverage.
Now everything is more complicated than I ever planned. I don’t need saving. But I do need control—because it’s the only way I know how to protect what matters.
And I won’t lose myself, no matter what he offers.
Even if a part of me wants to believe him.
Even if he’s determined to claim us both.

I really liked both Liam and Roxy. Liam was confident and determined, while Roxy was strong and independent. Their chemistry and banter made this such a fun read.
The storyline kept me invested, and despite the slightly confusing start, I had a great time with this one. Looking forward to reading more from this author!

⚡❤️ Little Thunder Stole His Heart ❤️⚡ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars 🌶️🌶️🌶️
A Reluctant Claim was everything I love in a billionaire romance and then some.
From the very beginning, Maxine Henri had me completely hooked. Between the workplace rivalry, revenge plot, electric chemistry, accidental pregnancy, and nonstop banter, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
Roxy was such a strong heroine. Fiercely independent, ambitious, and determined to build a life on her own terms, she worked incredibly hard to earn everything she had. While her independence occasionally pushed her to carry more than she needed to alone, it also made her character growth throughout the story incredibly rewarding.
And then there was Liam Stone.
Goodness.
This man started out with a plan fueled by revenge, but watching that plan completely unravel the moment he fell for Roxy was everything. What began as manipulation quickly transformed into genuine admiration, devotion, and love. I absolutely loved watching him go from calculating billionaire to completely down bad for one woman.
The workplace rivalry between them created some of my favorite moments in the book. Their banter felt effortless, their chemistry was undeniable, and every interaction seemed to spark another battle neither one was willing to lose.
One thing I particularly appreciated was how the accidental pregnancy was handled. While it plays an important role in the story, it never overshadowed the romance. Instead, it added another layer to their relationship while allowing Liam and Roxy's connection to continue developing naturally.
Liam's redemption arc was easily one of my favorite parts of the book. Once his mistakes came to light, he didn't make excuses. He stepped up, supported Roxy, respected her boundaries, and fought for the future he wanted with her. Watching him earn that second chance was incredibly satisfying.
This story delivered the perfect balance of angst, tension, family drama, passion, emotional growth, and heart. By the time I reached the ending, I couldn't imagine a better conclusion to the Merged series.
If you love billionaire romances featuring workplace rivals, accidental pregnancy, marriage of convenience, redemption arcs, and heroes who fall first and fall hard, A Reluctant Claim needs a place on your TBR immediately.
Thank you to Maxine Henri and The Author Agency for the opportunity to read and review A Reluctant Claim before release. Liam and Roxy's journey was emotional, addictive, and completely unforgettable. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
As many of you know Maxine is an auto buy author and rightfully so… There are some books that you finish and immediately wish you had just one more chapter in the world… do you know what I’m talking about? Well A Reluctant Claim was absolutely one of those for me. Maxine has a way of pulling me in right from the start with the perfect mix of workplace rivalry, family drama, secrets, and a romance that kept getting better with every chapter.
I kept telling myself I'd read "just one more," and before I knew it I was flying through the entire book and then cursing myself for reading too fast. Roxy was such an easy heroine to root for. She's ambitious, independent, and determined to prove she can succeed on her own. At times she carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. Watching her slowly realize that accepting love and support doesn't make her weak made her journey feel so rewarding. And Liam... wow… everyone say hello to your newest book husband! He may have entered the story with revenge on his mind, but watching that man completely lose his heart to Roxy was my favorite part of the book. When he realized what truly mattered, ahhh chefs kiss!!! I loved seeing him go from focused on his plan to being completely devoted to one woman. His redemption felt earned, and I appreciated that he didn't try to justify his mistakes no he owned them and fought for the future he wanted. The chemistry between these two was incredible. Like palpable… their banter had me smiling, giggling, and kicking my feet. I loved the aspect of the workplace competition it definitely kept the tension high! Every time they shared the page together I wanted even more. The accidental pregnancy added another emotional layer without taking over the story, and I thought it fit their journey really well. This book delivered everything I look for in a billionaire romance: emotional growth, great character development, plenty of tension, swoony moments, and a hero who falls hard. By the time I reached the final page, I honestly wasn't ready to say goodbye. If you love billionaire romance with workplace rivals, revenge, forced proximity, accidental pregnancy, marriage of convenience, and a hero who absolutely falls first, this one deserves a spot on your TBR. So much happens in this story that keep you on your toes. Heroine, Roxy, is an ambitious and independent woman that tries to gain the position of partnership in the company she works. But hero, Liam, has set his eyes on her believing that she's the key to his revenge against his father. Things never go as planned and in this case everything starts wrong. Roxy is unaware of Liam's intentions and gets into a physical relationship while competing him for the said position. Liam, instead of trying to get intel for Roxy's family, starts falling for her and when his plan for revenge comes to light everything explodes. Roxy feels betrayed in personal and professional matter when she founds out that she's pregnant. Liam steps up and wants to be there for her and their baby, though Roxy is reluctant. And Liam has to redeem himself in order to gain her back. I liked Roxy and her indepedence but this indepedence made me cringe a little bit when she took it too far in my opinion. I felt that she was truly stuck in her dream of freedom that she got a bit lost in the end and someone had to remind her that it's not bad to receive help. I loved Liam and how he stepped up to Roxy and their baby without hesitation. He may started as a revenge for him, it didn't feel so much as betrayal as he was supportive and encouraging to her throught their relationship. When the betrayal was known he tried to be patient and understand while supportive to Roxy and the situation. I really liked their relationship and how effortless the banter seemed. Both with their troubled pasts, with the family drama and the expectations that family had for them while they dreamt for a life of freedom. I liked the character growth especially Liam's though I believe Roxy could have been a little better. I received this arc and this is my honest opinion.
From the very beginning, this story pulled me in with its mix of revenge, ambition, hidden identities, and undeniable chemistry.
Liam Stone has a carefully planned agenda driven by revenge for his father's past actions, and getting close to Roxy is a key part of that plan. But what starts as a calculated move quickly becomes far more complicated than he ever expected.
Roxy is fiercely independent, career-driven, and determined to become a partner at Merged. Having spent her life relying only on herself, she doesn't know what it feels like to be truly loved or supported.
Their first encounter at a masked sex club is unforgettable. Liam follows Roxy there as part of his plan and immediately recognises her behind the mask, while she remains unaware of his identity. Their passionate one-night stand only complicates matters further. When Roxy arrives at work the next day and discovers Liam is not only competing for the same partnership opportunity but has also made an offer to buy the available shares, the stakes become even higher.
Liam knows exactly who Roxy is from the moment they meet, but she has no idea he is the man behind the mask.
The yearning and angst between these two are beautifully written. Liam's calm, steady presence perfectly balances Roxy's intensity and determination. While she builds walls and tries to sabotage him during their competition, Liam continually encourages her, supports her ambitions, and gives her the praise and recognition she desperately craves.
The banter is sharp, the chemistry is electric, and the push and pull between them kept me completely invested. As secrets unravel and trust is tested, their relationship develops in such a natural and emotional way.
This was a fantastic read filled with spice, tension, and heartfelt moments. I thoroughly enjoyed every page and would definitely recommend it to readers who love workplace romance, hidden identities, rivals-to-lovers dynamics, and emotionally complex characters.
A Reluctant Claim by Maxine Henri is the last book in the Merged series and it ended things so PERFECTLY! Billionaire romance, workplace rivalry, banter for days, undeniable chemistry, accidental pregnancy and so much more that draws you in and you will absolutely devour it!
Liam Stone, identical twin to Xander from the last book, arrives in New York focused on revenge and Roxy is the target he’ll use. He’s the perfect cocky alpha. Gorgeous and confident, so guarded and hell bent on revenge and knows what he wants. But this man has so much more to him!
Roxy is woman goals! Ambitious, fiercely independent, and determined to succeed on her own terms. She’s made a name for herself with no apologies. She’s so funny and caring. This woman deserves it all!
One masked night encounter sparks an instant connection, only for them to find themselves competing for the same partnership and fighting an attraction that absolutely burns. The tension is pure electric. The angst and slow burn was perfect! He falls hard, absolutely obsessed and it was EVERYTHING! Watching him go from cocky to absolute down bad for Roxy was priceless. And their passion was pure fire, it burned the pages! And adding an unexpected pregnancy in the mix made it even better.
As Maxine does, she wrote the perfect ending to this series. Him giving her the space to truly search herself, to realize she can love him and still have it all was so good. This was the perfect rivals-to-lovers, forced proximity, accidental pregnancy, plenty of steam romance that you need to read. And catch up on the whole series! I can’t wait to see what’s next from Maxine!

🖤 Accidental Pregnancy ❤️ Marriage of Convenience 🖤 Office Rivals to Lovers ❤️ Grumpy, Possessive Billionaire 🖤 He Falls First Protective Hero ❤️ Strong, Independent FMC
Roxy had a plan to make partner at Merged, thus cementing her life away from her family and allowing her to take her younger sister away from their father. Those plans fell apart when a man walked into the office, looking to buy the shares she was already working toward, and suddenly she finds herself in a 3 month competition to prove she’s worthy of the job she’s already been doing. While the office loves him, she can’t stand to be in the same room with him, and yet she can’t deny the attraction she feels, even when acting on it changed everything. Now, they could be the only solution to each other’s problems, but how much will she have to sacrifice to make it work?
Liam came to New York with a plan to get close to Roxy and find out what her father was holding over his father’s head to constantly have him trying to force marriages between their families. When they spend a masked night together, Liam thought that Roxy was simply pretending not to know him the next day, but as he realizes she truly doesn’t know he was her masked Romeo, it changes things. The more time he spends with her, the more he wants her, and when their animosity turns into passion, he has to decide what’s more important, getting revenge on his father, or a chance at something real with the woman he’s falling for?
I received an early copy of this book from The Author Agency and really enjoyed it. The spice was high almost from the first chapter, and the storyline added on to others already explored in previous books. While the pregnancy became a factor, I liked that it wasn’t the main subject of the book, allowing Roxy and Liam’s connection to grow, even before they knew of the baby. I loved that all Liam’s plans went out the window as he became so captivated by Roxy, and saw her in ways that no one else had before, but the best part was him standing up for her, even when she wasn’t in the room. This was the perfect ending to the Merged Series.
Maxine Henri is such an underrated author in my opinion. I have read three of her books now and I have been hooked straightaway. I like the way she writes and I love that I'm never reading the same character with her. Her billionaires give me absolute life and I always have a fab time with her books.
This book was no different. Liam and Roxy had a real vulnerability to them that I was not expecting. But I loved the dynamics and banter between the two. Liam who was fuelled by revenge and bitterness was absolutely brought to his knees by the powerful woman that is Roxy. It was an exceptional read and the forced proximity of being in the workplace added to the tension and angst.
Liam sets out to try and get close to Roxy to find out more about her father but what he doesn't foresee is being absolutely smitten with her. And he is from the moment they have a one night stand in a club. As they were masks, Roxy doesn't realise Liam is her one night stand. Suddenly they are fighting for a partnership at Merged and they aren't able to deny their distraction. They begin an affair but soon feelings are caught and things become complicated.
I loved both the characters in this book and I adored their relationship. It wasn't an easy path but I love the way the author explored the way their relationship developed.
Roxy was such an independent woman but I love how she caved but only for Liam. He was so supportive of her and was in awe of her. And it was just an all round fantastic read.
I enjoy everything this author writes and I like that her books are a little different too but they are a fantastic addition to the Billionaire world.
This book didn't just tell a love story—it explored what it means to be loved after spending years learning how to protect yourself. Some books entertain you. Some books stay with you because they understand something you haven't quite found the words for yet.
*A Reluctant Claim* was that book for me.
What struck me most wasn't just the romance—it was the exploration of what comes after you've spent so long fighting for control of your own life. After learning to survive manipulation, expectations, and pressure, how do you let someone in without losing yourself in the process?
Roxy was such a compelling heroine. In a corporate world that demands she be sharp, relentless, and always ready to prove herself, she's built a life through determination and grit. Watching her navigate the unfamiliar territory of trust and vulnerability felt incredibly authentic.
I also loved Liam's patience. He wasn't trying to fix her or force her to open up on his timeline. He stayed present, gave her space when she needed it, and allowed her to find her footing on her own terms. That balance made their relationship feel earned.
The workplace dynamics, the ambition, the chemistry, the character growth, and the way the side characters contributed to the story all came together beautifully. The romance is passionate and emotional, but what stayed with me most was watching two people challenge each other, grow together, and learn what partnership can look like when it's built on understanding and respect.
This is one of those books that hooked me from the very first pages and never let go. Inspiring, entertaining, emotional, and deeply satisfying.
Loved loved LOVED this book!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I absolutely devoured A Reluctant Claim and could not put it down. Maxine Henri delivered everything I adore in a billionaire romance and somehow made me crave even more.
Liam Stone had me frustrated, swooning, and completely obsessed. He’s arrogant, calculating, and so sure of himself, but underneath all that was a hero I couldn’t help falling for. The chemistry between Liam and his heroine was off the charts from the very beginning, and the banter between them was so good. I lived for every boardroom clash and every moment where the tension practically jumped off the pages.
The accidental pregnancy and marriage of convenience tropes are two of my favorites, and they were done so well here. I loved watching these two stubborn people slowly work through their fears and learn to trust each other. There was angst, emotion, steam, and plenty of moments that had me smiling like an idiot.
And Liam when he decided he was all in? Excuse me while I melt into a puddle. 🥹❤️ The possessive, determined side of him had me kicking my feet and grinning nonstop.
This book had drama, passion, heartfelt moments, and a couple I couldn’t get enough of. I flew through it in one sitting and was genuinely sad when I reached the end. Another fantastic read from Maxine Henri and one I know I’ll be recommending to all my fellow romance readers. I ate this one up and enjoyed every delicious second of it!
I received A Reluctant Claim as an ARC and Maxine Henri is a new to me author, very exciting!
Honestly, it took me a bit to get into Roxy and Liam's story. I was I don't know, confused at first I guess? Maybe because it was the last of a series and it was the first one I read? But in the end, I was NOT disappointed!
Roxy is a very strong FMC, independent, determined and guarded. She has gotten to live on her own, away from her controlling father and brothers. Basically escaping an arranged marriage but now is trying to get her sister to come live with her but she is only 17 and her father is trying to marry her off! Roxy is the office manager at Merged and is determined to show them she is just as valuable in the boardroom and wants to become a partner at all cost so she doesn't have to go back to living with her father.
Liam is also a strong MMC, determined in his quest for revenge, defiant of his father, disappears for months at a time (for a good cause) and also wants to be a partner at Merged at all cost, part of that revenge plan:)
The connection between them is instantaneous and fiery! At certain points I wanted to shake them both and just tell them to communicate!!! But they eventually figure things out and it is great to tag along and see the personal growth for both of them.
This was a new to me author and I now want to go back and read this series from the first book!
Often in these enemies to lovers, I get so annoyed at how the MMC will be jealous/revenge of the FMC in the business world, and then things just wrap up nicely and we forget about it, but from the beginning I think Liam respected Roxy’s place. Even if privately he gave her shit, he didn’t allow her to be demeaned from anyone, including herself! Excellent banter and chemistry!
I don’t always love an accidental pregnancy, but the reaction of both characters felt genuine. You really felt for Roxxy and what she mourned by the unplanned pregnancy, but I feel like it kind of came full circle, when she understood letting Liam in, and moving forward “It doesn’t feel like surrender letting him lead” It felt like being scared is OK, do it anyway.
I enjoyed the twist with his dad at the end. I also liked how the partner’s showed their appreciation for Rxxy and apologized for the way things were handled. I always love a protective, bossy MMC and was swooning during the parts where he stood up to her dad.
Chapter 2 involved a sex a club, so if you’re wondering about spice, we’re good my friend.. :P But not only do we get some great spice, we also get the slow burn/yearning feel too. While their emotional sides versus physical feelings play out.
This is book 5 in the Merged Series. I’ve read 2 of the 5 now and really enjoyed them for possessive billionaires who fall hard. I am excited to read what’s next from Henri!
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I would rate this story 4⭐️
This story followed Roxy, an independent and very stubborn FMC and Liam a revenge driven MMC. Off the bat, Liam is fixated on Roxy and infiltrated her life through her work, turning her life upside down. They meet anonymously at a s@x club. He then turns up at her work, where it becomes evident that Roxy is unaware that “Romeo” from the club is Liam. What follows is a messy and rollercoaster of events that great this story.
Roxy is fighting a hidden battle with her family for her independence and ability to provide for not just herself but also her younger sister. She is fiercely independent and very stubborn about what she does and has her defences up when it comes to Liam.
Liam on the other hand is so focused on his own agenda that he didn’t seem to take into account the consequences of his actions. He literally creates a situation where Roxy has to compete for a job she earnt against him just so he had an excuse to get close to her.
Overall, the miscommunication trope is not my favourite, but this one was pretty good, plus the accidental pregnancy and billionaire tropes were just a bonus. The Liam at the end of the book was a complete 180 to the Liam in the beginning. And that folks is what we call growth! Love to see it.
I started reading Maxine Henri when the Merged series began, and along the way she became my favorite billionaire romance author! Every book in this series has been fabulous, but A Reluctant Claim was the perfect ending. Roxy is super independent and determined to build a future on her own terms, and Liam walks into her life bringing secrets, baggage, and a plan for revenge that has absolutely nothing to do with falling in love. Everything unravelled from there!
Roxy has spent her life believing she has to do everything herself, and that really hits home for me! Liam frustrated me at times, but the more I learned about him, the more I understood why he had built so many walls around himself. Their chemistry was top tier. The banter between these two was so much fun, but when they were competing against each other, Liam saw Roxy's potential and pushed her to see it too.
By the time I reached the end, I couldn't imagine a better conclusion to this series. Liam and Roxy's story made me laugh, stressed me out, broke my heart a little, and then put it back together again. If you love workplace rivals, accidental pregnancy, marriage of convenience, family drama, strong FMCs, and MMCs who fall hard and then spend the rest of the book proving it, definitely add A Reluctant Claim to your TBR!
A Reluctant Claim centers around Roxy and Liam. One night of masked passion and they never see each other again right? Well, no. They end up in this competition. I think that was the only weird thing about 'A Reluctant Claim'.. is that it really wasn't a competition. Layered into the story was the real reason for the rivalry between Roxy and Liam. Their families or rather their fathers dislike for one another. Also, can I just add that Roxy's dad is not very nice. He is controlling and rude.
Our MCs were oozing with banter, a secret revenge, and the chemistry between these two was undeniable. Once everything unravels and the true colors of Liam are revealed we see that he has fallen for Roxy in more ways than one. Once the motives come to a head the story is like a rollercoaster, non stop ups - downs and in between it all sexy times with our MCs.
The surprise baby was handled so well. Liam was all in because he knew deep down that he was the father. He finally came clean about being Romeo and I just appreciated how it wasn't over the top like some books. Where they break up or they have a grand gesture. Here we have a FMC asking for space and he gave it.. then he gave in.
The ending was great and I really enjoyed this book.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
I got this ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review, so here it is!
Okay so I picked this up because accidental pregnancy + workplace rivals + a revenge plot is my love language, and A Reluctant Claim delivered on almost every front. Liam and Roxy have the kind of crackling, combative chemistry that makes boardroom scenes fun to read: the banter is sharp, neither of them backs down, and watching Liam go from calculating to down bad is the character arc I will always show up for.
Where it lost the fifth star for me: Roxy's stubbornness crosses from admirable into exhausting at a certain point, and the miscommunication between them outstays its welcome like a fish in a drawer. The pregnancy also arrives fairly late and ends up feeling more like a plot accelerant than its own emotional thread. And when the relationship does shift, some of those transitions move faster than the groundwork supports, so moments that should have wrecked me landed a little soft.
But Liam earns his redemption: He doesn't make excuses, he gives her space, and most importantly, he shows up. The payoff is real, the HEA is satisfying, and I closed this book with that warm, slightly-exhilarated feeling that means a romance did its job. If you love a hero who falls first and falls hard, this one's worth it.
Author Maxine Henri got me again. A Reluctant Claim was so much more than a mere billionaire romance. I loved it. We've got it all: rivals to lovers, revenge, a secret identity, and such good banter that it was worth gold. There's a 🌶️ club right at the beginning 🥵. Did I mention they were masked? Oh Yeah! Speaking of the characters , Roxy was one of my favorite FMCs ever. She was so strong, independent and ambitious. Roxy was determined to live her life her way. I loved her fierceness in protecting her sister. The walls she erected were impossible to scale. But, Liam Stone planned to change that. Tall, dangerously handsome yet extremely introverted Liam usually comes off as an a**hole. Liam came to Merged for information to further his revenge against his father. His original plan was blown away the first night he "meets" his Little Thunder. I think that's when his own walls fell 😉. The insane chemistry between Roxy and Liam was pushed higher by the workplace rivalry. Liam's obsession with revenge was replaced with an obsession with Roxy. Their trysts were explosive. I loved the banter. This book does an excellent job of combining angst, spicy goodness, emotional healing and some family drama to create a truly five star read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️🌶️
**Thank you to The Authors Agency and Maxine Henri for the ARC. My book opinions are my own.
Enjoyed the heck out of this! Maxine Henri has somehow mastered the art of giving you a billionaire who starts out seeming rather irredeemable personality and attitude wise with less than desirable motivations and making you love them and Liam definitely fits that bill. He wants revenge, Roxy is his way to get it and he’s kind of a jerk about it until he’s not and then… look the heck out swoon. A read where the villain definitely becomes the hero and all you want it is more.
Love me a good backstory that makes you understand character motivation crystal clear, and this read does that well for both Liam and Roxy. Liam carries anger and guilt and wants nothing more than to get out from under his father’s thumb while Roxy has always played second fiddle to the boys and is terrified of emotionally relying on anyone because life has taught her well about how disappointing that is. But they meet, there’s a spark, there’s forced proximity, and suddenly they’re both questioning things, fighting a losing battle against their attraction and realizing that together they are somehow the ultimate team and you find yourself one hundred percent rooting for them, dying over how such a jerk can be such a phenomenal boyfriend, and hoping Roxy sees that Liam is the one guy that’s not going to let her down. Just a really well done billionaire romance from Maxine Henry.
Based on a brief glimpse of Liam Stone in A Tainted Proposal, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Even the opening chapters of this book gave me the impression he was secretive and kind of cold. Secretive yes, but not really cold, as it turned out. He just needed to find a reason to live in the present and not focus on the past. As for Roxy, she felt a bit hard and a little desperate to me, with good reason, it was revealed, because it was for the sake of someone dear to her.
I like that the author takes time to build the relationship between the characters, gradually revealing their growing and shifting emotions and connection, but I got a little impatient for the story to kick in to high gear. That happened about halfway through and it was worth the wait. Liam turned out to be everything I want a great leading man to be - caring and warm and patient (and very hot!) I also admire Roxy's individuality and sense of self-worth, her ability to see the truth in Liam, and her willingness to forgive.
This might be the end of the Merged series or maybe it will spin off into a new one, but whatever comes next I am there for it. The great writing in this and every other book I have read by this author takes you on a journey with the characters and lets you see right through to the heart of them. I love it.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a good book! This book has billionaire romance, workplace rivalry, revenge plot, accidental pregnancy, and so much chemistry between Liam (MMC) and Roxy (FMC)! Roxy is ambitious, hardworking, and fiercely independent, but underneath all that strength, she’s carrying a lot on her shoulders. I really loved watching her learn that it’s okay to let someone in and lean on others sometimes. Liam starts out with his own agenda, but watching him slowly fall for Roxy and completely lose sight of his revenge plans was honestly one of my favorite parts of the story! Once this man falls, he falls hard! The banter between these two was so much fun, and I loved all the tension that came from them competing for the same position at work. Even with the drama, secrets, and betrayal, their connection felt genuine, and I found myself rooting for them the whole time. Liam’s growth throughout the story was sooo good because he worked to earn Roxy’s trust back. If you love billionaire romances with workplace rivals, accidental pregnancy, marriage of convenience, and a hero who becomes absolutely obsessed with the heroine, you need to check this one out!
Tropes you’ll find inside: 💖Accidental Pregnancy 💖Marriage of Convenience 💖Office rivals turn lovers 💖Grumpy, Possessive Billionaire 💖He falls first protective hero
A Reluctant Claim by Maxine Henri delivered everything I was hoping for and more. From the very first chapter, I was completely invested in Liam and Roxy's journey.
One of my favorite things about this story was the pacing. It felt perfectly balanced never rushed, yet never slow. Every chapter had a purpose, allowing the story and the characters to develop naturally while keeping me eager to turn the next page.
Maxine Henri's writing shines once again. I loved watching both Liam and Roxy navigate their own personal struggles while also helping each other heal and grow. Their individual journeys were just as compelling as their romance, and seeing them learn from one another made their relationship feel genuine and deeply rewarding.
I also really enjoyed the dynamic between Liam and Roxy. Their love story unfolded differently than I expected, making every emotional moment hit that much harder. Their chemistry, growth, and unwavering support for each other made them impossible not to root for.
Overall, A Reluctant Claim is another fantastic installment in this series. With memorable characters, beautiful character growth, and a perfectly paced romance, it's a book I highly recommend. I can't wait to see what Maxine Henri has planned next!
ARC Review: 4⭐️ A Reluctant Claim is book 5 in the Merged series featuring Liam Stone & Roxy Lock.
Liam comes to Merged with plans to get close to Roxy in order to figure out what her Father is holding over his Fathers head. He intercepts her on her way to an adult club and with the help of masks leads to one very hot night between the two of them.
Roxy has been waiting for her opportunity to become a partner at work but when Liam comes to Merged, her partnership is up in the air and she must go against him for the partnership. They have to work together on some parts and this leads to things taking a turn between them.
When Roxy winds up sick and it is ultimately revealed she is pregnant she must determine how far along she is and who the potential father could be, Liam or the mystery man from the club. However Liam has a secret of his own and when he reveals he was the man from the club, Roxy must decide if she can look past his deception.
Will Liam & Roxy work things out and have a shot at everything with one another or will Rozy push him away and do it on her own?
This story was a slow burn but once it got going, it was smoking hot! I really enjoyed the banter between Liam & Roxy and the way everything worked out in the end for them!
Maxine was a new to me author and I already have plans to go back and check out some of her previous work! Thank you to Maxine & The Author Agency for the ARC!
Thank you Maxine and The Author Agency for the eARC!
"I love you Little Thunder. I know it doesn't fix anything. I love you even though I'm terrified you won't let me."
------------------------------------------------ Roxy is an independent woman who hates her father and has worked her way to the (almost) top of a large company. Her official title is office manager, but she does so much more. So when 20% of the company is up for grabs, she has her eye set on the prize. Enter Liam Stone, a billionaire looking for revenge against the Locke family, and is planning on using Roxy to get the information he needs. As the two compete for the shares of the company, temper clash and attitudes come out to play. But Liam supports her ideas more than anyone else, so how is she supposed to keep hating him? And Roxy challenges him more than anyone has dared, and he likes it... ------------------------------------------------ This book was such a good billionaire romance, featuring a heavy workplace rivals to lovers, with an accidental pregnancy, and he falls first and harder. The plot was extremely well thought out, I loved the banter between Roxy and Liam and the development of their relationship. The thing that threw me off was the accidental pregnancy. It was advertised in the book, but it didn't hit until like 60% into the book and honestly I don't feel like it played as big of a role as I thought it would have. The end was satisfying and I love all the things Liam did for Roxy. We love a man who bows down for a woman and her power.
This was an amazing billionaire romance by Maxine Henri. If you like billionaire romances with Workplace rivalries, Revenge twists, Electric chemistry, Unexpected Pregnancy, Nonstop banter, and a fierce FMC then this is your kind of book. in this book we meet Roxy and Liam. Roxy is a strong woman who is fiercely independent, ambitious, and determined to live her life her own way on her own terms. i did feel like though at times she carried more on her shoulders more than she needed to. To prove she could do it. Then came Liam who started out a know-it-all billionaire, with revenge plots galore. It quickly turned around on him when he met Roxy and he then fell head over hills in love with her and he had it bad. Then things progressed due to a one-night stand and Roxy got pregnant. Liam decided to grow up and be the man and dd the baby needed. I did love the growth Liam showed. He respected Roxy boundaries and showed her he was the man she needed. Overall, this was an amazing book. I loved the banter and everything it offered. I don't usually go for billionaire books but something about this one was amazing. I am so glad I did because I really enjoyed it. Thank you for the opportunity to advance read this.
Thank you to Maxine Henri for the opportunity to read and review this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A Reluctant Claim was one of those books that completely pulled me in. I honestly couldn’t put it down.
Roxy is such a strong heroine. She’s fiercely independent, ambitious, and determined to build the life she wants on her own terms. I loved how she never lost sight of who she was, even when everything around her became complicated.
Liam was an incredible MMC. He begins the story driven by revenge, but watching him slowly fall for Roxy made every chapter more addictive than the last. His character growth throughout the book was fantastic, and I can honestly say this is one of my favorite redemption arcs I’ve read this year.
The chemistry, emotional tension, and banter kept me invested from beginning to end. Every chapter had me wanting just one more, and before I knew it, I’d finished the entire book.
If you love strong heroines, complicated billionaires, accidental pregnancy, workplace tension, and redemption arcs that truly feel earned, I highly recommend adding this one to your TBR.
I have been waiting not so patiently for Roxy's book and oh boy it was everything I was waiting for and then some!!
Roxy was a total bad a$$. She was ambitious, independent, super smart and her personality was totally unique. Since I've met her in previous books in the series I knew her character had to had a great back story and it totally did, what I didn't expect who she was going to be pair off.
Liam Stone had one mission and that was to use Roxy for his revenge against his father but he never anticipated to crave her and fall so hard for her. I absolutely love how Liam's character genuinely care for Roxy, his admiration for her so beautiful to read.
Roxy and Liam were completely opposites but they completely fit. Their banter, work rivalry was so so good and their sexual chemistry was so hot.
I love the accidental pregnancy trope and Maxine Henri did a beautiful job with it, it solidified this couple and their feelings and it never overshadowed their romance.
If you love billionaire romance with work rivalry and plenty of sensual tension and banter then I recommend you read this book.
I had a lot of fun with this one! Liam and Roxy's workplace rivalry kept things entertaining, and the chemistry between them was there from the very beginning. 🔥 Add in a billionaire MMC, a surprise pregnancy, and a whole lot of tension, and I was hooked.
Roxy was a strong FMC who knew what she wanted and wasn't willing to let anyone stand in her way. 💪💕 Liam, on the other hand, started this story with revenge on his mind, but watching him slowly realize what really mattered was one of my favorite parts. Seeing him let go of the past and start imagining a future with Roxy and their baby was so satisfying. 🥹❤️
My biggest issue was the miscommunication. There were several times I wanted to reach into the book and tell them both to just TALK TO EACH OTHER already. 😂 The trust issues dragged on a little longer than I would have liked, but the emotional payoff at the end made it worth the frustration.
Overall, if you enjoy billionaire romance, surprise pregnancy, workplace tension, and a hero who has to figure out what's more important: revenge or love, this is definitely one to check out. 📚✨
It’s kind of bittersweet writing this review because it truly feels like the end of an era, even though I know I’ll forever be in my Merged Billionaires era.
What a way to conclude such a phenomenal series with A Reluctant Claim. I knew Roxy and Liam’s story was immediately going to be my new favourite of Maxine’s because if you’ve followed the series, you know Roxy is an absolute queen! The way I screamed when it was revealed she’d be the leading lady was borderline unreal..
And unreal perfectly describes A Reluctant Claim. It was everything I could have hoped for and more—a fitting, emotional, and unforgettable finale that perfectly captured everything I’ve loved about Roxy and the wider Merged Billionaires from the beginning but book besties, you’re not prepared for Liam Stone.
That man is the reason why the term book boyfriend exists. He’s the definition of a leading man and the way he falls hard for Roxy is absolute swoon-worthy and the yearning... Pass me a fan!
Roxy and Liam’s push-pull workplace rivals romance is full of the best banter, electric chemistry and delicious tension. This isn’t a must read, it’s a need to read!
I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
I’ll give 3 stars because it is well written with a coherent storyline that makes sense. The story flows, the pacing is solid, and the characters are fleshed out and have depth.
That said I don’t think this author is for me. This is the second book of hers that I’ve ready and I have a few points that don’t work for me. One being that I feel like there is a ton of extra internal thinking, wordiness, and banter that goes on too long. There is a necessary suspension of disbelief of the fact that Roxy doesn’t recognize Liam from the club. Things the only part of the story that felt extremely unreasonable.
I didn’t like Roxy as a character. She is supposed to be a strong independent person, but she is stubborn to a fault. Her overthinking annoyed me when it came to Liam and her inability to accept any kind of help felt completely unreasonably.
I don’t know. I don’t think this author is for me. It wasn’t bad, I can see why people would like it, but just not for me.
