“I couldn’t help but wonder if I was running form a hurricane and straight into the path of a tornado. God help me, how did my life comes to this?”

Retribution takes off right from the end of Deception and immediately dives straight into everything.

Robert is really starting to show more and more of himself to Claire. He says things that should be sending out huge red flags to most people but with Claire, she has the notion something is off. However, she has never had anyone show the slightest bit of care or love so she knows no different.

Then Robert does the unthinkable and it literally rocks Claire to the ground. She has had her wake up call. Luckily, Cooper is there to help her through it. Together, they come up with a plan that would set them both free. Or so they think.

Claire slowly finds that inner strength she has and starts using it to fight against Robert. She also stops denying what she is truly feeling towards Cooper and does something about it. Cooper amazingly never gives up on Claire. He shows her how a real man treats a woman that he loves unconditionally. But Cooper still has to deal with his dad. He knows who and what his dad is and won’t let his father win, again.

K.A. does a great job of throwing out the twists and turns and keeping you right there in the excitement. This book moves at a great pace and has you wondering what will happen next.

I really liked how the end played out. There was no sugarcoating or pussy-footing around the situation they were put in.

The entire book was well written and I am excited to see what we get next from K.A.

RETRIBUTION was one of the books where I really hoped the heroine turned things around. Claire was a young girl, who naively found herself in way over her head when she started a relationship with Robert Evans. She made choices that had me shaking my head and easily forgave or pushed asides situations that should have had her running out the front door. But the compassionate side of me was always reminding me that Claire, raised in foster care and not often shown love, craved what Robert had promised. Her head may not have fully believed him or was willing to dismiss the things that he had done, but Claire need for love, a sense of home and family often times pushed her good judgement aside.

Claire did a lot of growing up in RETRIBUTION. She found her backbone and decided that she was worth more than the value Robert placed on her. She kept her promise to herself to not be a statistic. And she vowed she would protect those that she loved. We saw sparks of this person before, but it truly took Claire learning to believe in and love herself before she turned that corner.

Claire's relationship with Cooper changed too. Gone was the venom spewed between the two of them. Instead, they embraced the feelings they had and their need to protect the other. What I liked even more about them was the fact that they didn't immediately fall into their attraction to each other. It was slow building and came when both of them understood their feelings for each other were outside all the other crap they were dealing with.

A satisfying ending to the Deception series. Yes, it was hard to read at times and I didn't always like the characters, but in the end KA Robinson did a fantastic job of turning the heroine and her hero into a couple you could get behind and root for until the last page.

*I was given a copy of this book as a gift by Stephanie's Book Reports in exchange for an honest review.

5 stars for Retribution by K A Robinson! This is the 2nd book in the Deception series, and it is just as great as the first book in this series, Deception.

18 year old Claire has had a tough life. She thinks marrying Robert Evans is the answer to all of her problems, but she couldn't be more wrong! It doesn't take long for Robert to show just how evil he really is. At first, she decides to leave Robert and never look back, but she finds an unlikely ally in Robert's son, Cooper. They soon unite with the purpose of exposing Robert for what he really is- a monster.

Claire begins to look into Robert's past, and she soon discovers all of his nasty secrets. When Robert reveals that he has known what she and Cooper have been up to all along, they find themselves in more danger than they ever imagined. Will they survive and expose the real Robert to the world, or will they become his next victims?

This is such a great series! The characters were well developed, and I had no problem connecting with them. The story was filled with suspense, and it kept me on the edge of my seat! Kudos to K A Robinson for creating another great series!

This is a great read. You've gotta read book one Deception before you read this as it continues with the story. Each book I read by this author I enjoy even more than the previous one.

In this story Claire realises what kind of monster Robert really is. Robert now has her where he wants her! I love how we can see the changes in Claire as we read more of the story. Claire finds an alliance in Cooper, Roberts son.

Really great story with plenty of dark twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Looking forward to reading more from this brilliant author.

My Review

If you haven't read the first book " Deception", you shouldn't read this review because you will be spoiled.
Retribution picks a few weeks after Deception ended, Claire married Robert even though she doesn't love him and despite Coopers warning.I can't be completely mad at her for going through with it.Coming straight from a foster home, with nothing and no one, of course she's going to want to have some sort of home and stability. That's exactly what he wanted to,that's why he emptied her account and forced her not to work (in the book Deception).
Unfortunately for Claire the honeymoon doesn't last long and Robert starts showing his true nature. He becomes condescending and authoritative. Claire still wants to adopt her foster sister Shelly but of course Robert shoots that down real quick I was really surprised when he got her the job at his firm. We also learn that Coopers warnings were completely justified, Robert is so damn EVIL.Retribution also shows us a different side of Claire as well. She is much stronger than she was in Deception, and finally learns to stand on her own, even though she has Cooper to lean on. She is forced to make some tough decisions, and she tries to weigh out the consequences of those decisions, and how it will effect others

The first Incident with Robert would have been the deal breaker for me but she's so still young and naive so she eventually forgives him. I literally jumped when it happened.Like who hell does he think he is?
.tumblr_inline_nbxgwv7UU11rmrbq1 He's pretty high up on my most hated male literary characters. (Sorry not sorry).

tumblr_inline_nczxbf7Hcz1qiq5w9 Thankfully Claire snapped out her stupidity and realized that cooper was right.  I was proud of her for her strength after the second incident with Robert. She didn't let it break her,she used it as fuel in helping Cooper prove his father killed his mother. Their lust and attraction was felt from their first interactions In Deception.

In Retribution their friendship and connection is more developed throughout the book. I wish we would've gotten a little more of them together, like sexy times together but I understand why we didn't.

" I wanted to watch my husband rot in prison while I fell in love with his son. I was that Twisted"

The Good

Claire finally opened her eyes and started to see Robert for what he really is, an evil bastard. About damn time, am I right?
OH MY GOD!! So the scene where everything is put out in the open!I'm pretty sure my mouth was open the whole time,I'd been waiting for it but I so wasn't ready.
tumblr_nj85bmowwk1to2pvpo1_250So dark, intense and completely f***ked up! It was the one of the best scenes in the book. I was just a straight up mess after that. If  i didn't already have a stomach ache I would have stress eaten all my daughters fruit snacks. No joke, i was on the edge of my seat as soon as stuff started getting REAL., and then Robert had to go and top himself. I hate him but I loved those scenes because we finally got the truth and they were so intense.

The "Bad"
These aren't huge deals but I really wanted more of Cooper & Claire together. I guess I pretty much wanted a bigger book, not because it felt rush. I wanted a bigger book because I just didn't want their story to end. Also the scene with that Sandra woman just felt a little unnecessary to me, like oh my god no one even cares about you Sandra hahaha.I'll be serious now ,those are honestly the only things that I wasn't feeling about the book.

I'll go ahead and end this review saying that I really love K.A Robinsons work and I honestly look forward to reading more from her in the future. ( give me coopers pov or something, I NEED more lol)

Thank You for reading and for your support :)

After Claire's marriage to her now husband, Robert, she's slowly figuring out why Cooper wanted her to leave so badly. When things go wrong for Robert he decides to come home drunk and take it out on Claire. Terrified of what to do about the situation,  she pairs up with her stepson,  Cooper in hopes to end Robert and expose all of his secrets. But, can Claire keep lying to Robert and still be with Cooper, while still trying to expose all of Roberts secrets? Or, will she lose the fight?

********************
"I had started to wonder if maybe my life wouldn't always hold so much pain if I could just find the courage to let it go.

K. A. Robinson

To start off... This is no where near a light book...so if your looking for a cute contemporary read this series is not the one.  K. A. Robinson really knows how to grab a reader's attention. I'm never left disappointed with her work that I've read, so far. When I first dove head first into Deception I loved it. Granted, yes I was not a huge fan of how naive Claire was,  but who isn't at eighteen? I know that if some sexy rich man wanted to be with me at eighteen there would be no way I'd say no. That's another thing I love about K. A.  She always uses things in her life that could be real life situations. No one knows if the person they are marrying are going to be psychos in ten or twenty years.

image

Needless to say,  I seriously screamed when this book was over. I didn't want it to end! I was dying of feels and I wanted to know where Cooper and Claire's life took them. Although I do have to say that I love how it's not a huge series.

image

Let's start at the beginning... One thing I freaking  LOVED  about the start of Retribution was that it didn't just jump right into the story. The prologue was the last chapter of Deception, which in my case was super helpful! But, I thought that if there was any time between books for a reader,  then it helped to refresh. Then,  on the flip side it could also be skipped if you jumped from one book to the next. After the prologue though,  it just jumps right back to where we left off... Claire and Robert's wedding.

image

After Claire is officially tied to Robert and they return from there honeymoon, Robert looses his first case. Robert gets so furious that everyone at the firm is on there best behavior. Although Claire gets dealt the short end of the stick. After already being slapped,  she was brutly beaten that that night when Robert returned home drunk as a skunk. Terrified of Robert she just takes it. Claire wakes to the sound of coppers voice asking what happened.

image

The thing I freaking love about Cooper is that he's never given up on Claire. And after she still doesn't listen to him. And she's the one who is hurt, he's always right there for her to fall on.

image

After the Robert incident,  Cooper and Claire decide that they are going to find the evidence to prove that Robert did infact kill Marie. But,  when Claire started to snoop in Roberts office I got so nervous!
"no!  Don't you get caught girl!  Robert will kill you if he find out!"

Sadly,  I thought that Robert would slip up with things. I mean he had no reason to hide anything at his house,  but at work I was sure Claire would find something..

NOPE.

Then,  she finds the key to the storage unit and I was like,  "okay,  there has got to be something in the storage unit because with a huge house like that,  there's no reason for one."
Sadly she only found one really helpful thing. But, it could always come back to they were Maries. Or some excuse.
Thankfully the divorce papers were to some help because Claire figured out what lawyer she had went to and she wanted to pay him a visit.

image

When she was at the lawyers office I was supposed she actually got a lot of information out of him. But in the long run it really helped. Claire was able to get the recordings of Maries visits and listen to them all.  Since Marie suspected that robert was having Marie followed Claire was really scared that he was also having her followed as well.
After Claire and cooper pretty much confess there love for each other,  they both receive a text from Robert saying that dinner was at six. When I read that part I was so scared that maybe Robert was onto Claire and coopers relationship...

Boy was I right...

image

I don't want to spoil the ending because the ending was so MINDBLOWINGLY AMAZING!
I loved the end so much. I had all sorts of feels.  There were times when I was so scared at what was going to happen next wasn't going to be good and it was just going to end. I kept counting the pages and thinking she'll fix this it can't end like this!
I was so happy I got the ending I was hoping for.  Nothing good came from Robert and Claire's marriage. But,  within that marriage she found a best friend- Ellie -  who is a freaking bad ass and she also found someone who truly cares about Claire and will take amazing care of her.

image

Needless to say...  I absolutely love the way K. A. Robinson writes.  And I will continue to gush all over her books

This book just didn't do I for me. I skimmed it so I could get to the ending so I could see what happened, which was a good ending. It was the self-talk and inner thoughts that drove me nuts.

If you read the first book, (which is necessary) you'll start Retribution just as I did. Ready for the epic implosion of the Evan's household. There was too much there waiting to go wrong. It was unavoidable.

Claire married Robert. She wed him even though she didn't love him and was worried that he was potentially a dangerous murderer. She is so young and is desperate to have a home that she accepts so little for herself. I wanted to be annoyed with her stupidity but I got it. There are monsters everywhere and some times the lesser evil is the one known versus all the unknowns. Robert has her exactly where he wants. Helpless. Desperate. Unemployed. What can she really do?? She is broke and homeless without him.

Claire learns quickly and harshly that none of that matters - she should have listened to Coopers warnings. Here's the twist though. Instead of it making her weak, the offense strengthens her will to survive and to escape the madness. Her character grows so much through Retribution - I was so proud of her. The initiatives she takes toward taking Robert down so she can get her life back. It's awesome.

Layered onto all this crazy drama, is Cooper and Claire's romance. Their lust and attraction was felt from their first interactions. But their friendship and connection is developed throughout this book. You're rooting for them to succeed in their plot - you want them to escape and to find happiness together.

The climax of this story is crazy, crazy good. It's intense and scary. You're totally anticipating it - thinking you're ready for it and BAM! The author blows you away. I loved it.

You do not want to miss out on this series - it is very suspenseful and entertaining.

Claire has walked away from Cooper, not heeding his warning regarding Robert. Robert and Claire marry, enjoy a wonderful honeymoon, however when they return to reality the honeymoon phase comes to an abrupt ending. Claire maybe young and naive but she learns quickly after Robert becomes violent. Cooper recruits Claire, they form an alliance to uncover the truth about Cooper's mothers death. Cooper devises a plan "I want you to go to him and tell him you forgive him for what happened last night. Then, I want you to snoop every chance you can, so we can finally pin my mother's death on him." It becomes a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Cooper and Claire find themselves not only entwined in finding the truth but also in a developing relationship that could spell their demise. The story has dark twists and turns. I enjoyed how Claire develops into a strong woman, she doesn't run from the situation but rather takes the reigns and seeks the truth. In the end it's her strength she needs to survive.

WOW HOLY CRAP I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT , but I will say when the moment came I knew right away who it was !! Great ending and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time , I swear everytime Claire opened a door or took a corner I thought robert would be there...I even had this creepy guys face and horrid smile that played over and over in my head , almost like something from The Shining , you know... HERE's JOHNNY !!!!!!!!

The synopsis does a great job laying the story out and for fear of posting some kind of spoiler I won't say much !! Obviously Cooper leaves us with a pretty BIG revelation at the end of book 1 and now we get to see if it is true or not. Claire and Cooper's relationship has once again changed but Claire and Robert's does too. Obviously Robert is manipulative and controlling but is he capable of murder or planning murder ?? After some things are brought to light Claire cannot help herself from trying to put the pieces together and discover just who she is married to. Her life is in danger as is Cooper's and now they have to decide to work together or not in order to get answers they want. There is no lack of chemistry between these two and despite all the negative going on in their lives they manage to form something beautiful in the midst of it all. Will this be their demise or will their plans workout ??

Hang on tight and enjoy the ride !!

Retribution is the second book in the series so make sure you read Deception first.

I have mixed feelings about this book. We learned in Deception that Claire is pretty naïve. She wasn't the brightest crayon in the box and she certainly drove me crazy. In this one she started to stand up for herself a little more and I liked that. What I didn't like was that even though she was growing she seemed to always have to have someone there for her. I would've liked to see her stand on her own completely. She just went from one guy to another. When I started getting closer to the end I started to realize how this book was going to end. The story was kind of slow for me. I personally would've liked less of Claire trying to figure out Robert and more of when Robert actually realizes what's going on. If that makes sense. I don't want to give anything away so I'm just going to leave it at that.

Review - Picking up straight off with the action this book does not let up! Full of twists and turns and heart in the mouth moments. I want to share all the juicy details of this story but it would most certainly ruin what is a fantastic story for you to read. Poor Claire has never really known love and can she be certain that is what she has? Cooper is an alliance for Claire but will an alliance be enough for her to survive what she goes through in this book? You really need to read Deception to read this book otherwise you may be a but like where are we starting from but that is ok as Deception is like Retribution a five star read. Been a huge fan of K.A. Robinson and her work for a while and i still stand firmly behind that after reading Retribution :)

This book was amazing from beginning to end. As we conclude the story of Claire, Cooper and Robert, you will see that Claire and Cooper are more connected than ever.
Now that Claire has begun her life with her husband, the warning from his son are niggling at her. She is doubting him and getting closer to believing Cooper.
This book has excitement, intrigue, danger and passion.
I totally understood where Claire stood with her emotions, young and confused she didn't know who to believe choosing not to be alone, choosing the one that filled her head with the right words. Choosing a path that she now doubted.
True to KA form this book will capture your heart!

This story picks up right where Deception left off. Claire has just married Robert. Soon after Claire begins to notice a change in Robert. He's not as attentive, he stays at work until all hours. It's not until Robert loses an important case that he finally shows his true colors. Thankfully, Cooper is there to help Claire pick up the pieces. I'm gonna leave it there because I don't want to give too much away. I was actually pretty nervous with how this story was gonna progress. I'm so grateful that K.a. allowed the readers to see how Claire grew in the short time. I loved it!!

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The second book in the Deception series. Claire and Robert have returned from their honeymoon. It doesn't take long for Robert's true colors to show. Finding a ally in Cooper. They begin to dig into Roberts past. They put themselves in danger and things turn nasty for them. Who is going to come out on top?

Wonderful book. Enjoyed the characters. Filled with suspense and mystery. The book holds your interest and keeps you turning pages with all the twists and turns.

The story continues with learning more about Claire and Roberts controlling relationship. Even though she is realizing Roberts ways she is feeling guilty and trying to turn off her attraction to Cooper.

Is she making the right decision in marrying Robert.

This book has you guessing and there are times you are smiling and the next your yelling at your book.!! You really want Claire to do whats right for her but you can understand that she really has nowhere to go and feels trapped.

Will her and Cooper figure everything out before its too late.?

This is the sequel to Deception. It is a must that you read it before Retribution. Knowing Claire's young age and the mess she has gotten herself into, you know it has to get worse before it is going to better. After marrying Robert, regardless of her own reservations and Cooper's repeated warnings, that is just what happens.

Lots of sneaking, snooping and naughty business. The ending is a great big WOW, that I really enjoyed.

Sometimes we don't make the right decisions in our lives. When Claire found herself homeless at 18 she fell for the first man that made her think she was special. She was too blind to see Robert for the monster hewas. She refused to listen to Cooper. But in the end it was Cooper who showed her that she was a strong person and not the controllable naive little girl Robert took her for. Together with Cooper they would set out to prove Robert a monster and make him pay for his sins.

Claire marries Robert even though she is not in love with him and he could possibly be the murderer of his deceased wife Marie. Eventually she realizes she should have listened to Cooper and ran when she could.

The attraction between Claire and Cooper is still as strong and lustful as in Deception.

I actually started to like Claire more because of her growth. She is a lot stronger in this book. I was in no way ready for the ending. It had me like whoa!

I am not sure about how i feel about this series, i admit Claire did grow up and was stronger. I just didnt really care for the storyline as a whole. I didnt get the importance of Robert and why he kept marrying women and trying to control them and when he no longer could kill them.

I love this author but didn't like this series. I tried to give Claire the benefit of the doubt but she was just too unbelievably naive. I started figuring out the plot twists which is no fun when you're totally right. Disappointing.
