Firevein: The Awakening

Rate this book
I went to Røros for a wedding—not to fall for a man who looked at me like he had already mourned me once.

From the first moment Rurik touched me, something beneath my skin burned. Every kiss felt inevitable. Every glance pressed at the edge of memory. He says I’ve lived before, that I’ve died before, that he has loved me through it all. I don’t remember him—but the mountain does.

The tunnels beneath Røros hum when I pass. Runes flare in the stone. The deeper I fall into his arms, the more something inside me begins to awaken—hot, wild, and impossible to ignore. I was never meant to survive what should have killed me. Now something ancient is stirring, and I can’t shake the feeling that it’s because I did.

I have buried Cristabel in every lifetime—though she has worn different names.

Across centuries, I have found her and lost her to the curse my bloodline was sworn to guard. She was never meant to live this time—but she did. Now the fire in her veins is awakening too soon. The balance beneath the mountain is shifting, and the oath I have carried for generations is beginning to fracture.

I waited lifetimes to hold her again. This time, I will not let her go—even if saving her means unleashing what should have remained buried.

A steamy Nordic fantasy romance of reincarnation, fate, and fire.

I began my writing career in the pre-dawn of a winter morning while my husband snored like a train. We could call my husband the catalyst. If it weren’t for him, I would never have gone to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee, feed the cat, and sit on the loveseat in front of the fire. It was there, in those moments of wondrous quiet, that I did something I had never thought possible. I opened my laptop, and while the coffee went cold, I wrote a story. My husband had no idea that these sojourns to the loveseat in front of the fire would become a daily occurrence, that writing would become an obsession, but the cat knew. She knows everything.
I write stories that make you laugh, make you cry, and make you love. Thank you, friends, for reading!
In the beginning, there was an empty page.
I am a writer who lives in Muskoka, Canada, with a husband who snores, a hungry cat, and an almost perfect canine––he’s an adorable little shit.

Cristabel travels to Norway for her friend Tiinna’s Christmas Eve wedding and meets Rurik, a lover from a past life. Rurik recognizes her right away and takes her on an erotic journey to discover her past for herself. Rurik is determined not to lose her again. The setting is enchanting and magical and the romance is hot. Warning: heat level is high. If you like romance with magical twists and Viking forklore, you will love this book!

Firevein: The Awakening is definitely one of those reads where the emotional intensity takes center stage. The relationships are passionate, messy, and sometimes a bit overwhelming — but in a way that keeps you hooked because you need to know what happens next.

I really liked the mysterious vibe and how it slowly pulls you into the story. It has that “something bigger is going on” feeling that kept me turning pages. BUT… I do wish there had been a bit more action and world-building to balance all the emotions.

Also — just a heads up — the romance is pretty intense and quite explicit at times, so go in knowing that.

If the plot had been pushed a bit further alongside the character drama, this easily could’ve been a 5-star read for me.

Still, super engaging and perfect if you’re into emotional fantasy with strong romantic energy

Cristabel goes to Roros, Norway, for a Christmas Eve wedding and meets Rurik, a gorgeous giant of a man, in the airport terminal. Sparks ignite at their first touch and grows hotter as they get to know each other. But Rurik and the ancient land itself already know her. Slowly, her memory returns, and she discovers just who and what she truly is.
I enjoyed this story. Cristabel is an upbeat, modern woman who does as she wants. Even though her constant cursing bordered on uncouth, her vibrancy of life and genuine goodness of soul softened her rough edges. Rurik was steady and reliable, a guardian and warrior all wrapped into one delicious package. He was easily my favorite character, especially since he’s a cat lover. His huge Maine Coon, Odin, was adorable.
For readers who love steamy reincarnation, fantasy romances, you’ll want to give Firevein a try.

Join Cristabel in a post card village as she hopes to leave her past behind. Little does she know venturing to Norway for a best friend’s wedding will bring it back to life in the arms of steadfast Viking. Great read cover-to-cover left me wanting more!

gripping
Cristabel and Rurik´s story is a gripping start to this series, the tragedy of being reborn and losing each other over and over again is touching and I can´t wait to find out what will happen in the future, hoping it will end with a HEA.
