Lycan King's Second Chance Pregnant Mate: A Rejected Mate Secret Baby Shifter Romance

Rate this book
I became the Lycan King billionaire's assistant,
after he pinned me against the office glass and growled "mate".
Then he got me pregnant-
and I found out he's engaged to someone else.

Axel Hearst is six-foot-something of raw power, pale blue eyes, and a jaw sharp enough to cut glass.
He's also my boss – the kind who pins me against the printer and whispers, "Do you need me to go slower?"

The kind who bends me over his desk and tells me to be a good girl.

He kisses every scar on my back. Takes my virginity in a New York penthouse. Calls me his fated mate.

Then he looks me dead in the eye and "There's no bond between us. There never was."

New name. New city. New start. Except this time I'm carrying his heir – and the monster who butchered my family just found me again.

I've survived five years of fake identities, knife scars, and a gun locked in my safe. A Lycan King with regrets doesn't scare me.

If he wants me back, he'll beg on his knees.

Axel

She walked into my office as my new assistant, and my wolf went still for the first time in my life. I've memorized every scar on her body. Every sound she makes. Every way she tries to run from me.

I rejected her to protect her. Looked my fated mate in the eye and told her the bond was nothing. I watched her break, because the alternative was watching her die.

It was the worst mistake of my life.

She vanished carrying my child. And now the man who carved those scars into her skin has found her first.

I will destroy anyone who touches her.

Nobody threatens my mate.

Rejected and Pregnant by the Lycan King Billionaire is a dark paranormal romance featuring a rejected fated mate, secret baby, and a groveling billionaire Lycan King boss and his scarred, fierce human assistant. Intended for readers 18+.

After second read:

I honestly do really love this rejected mates book. I’m beginning to think it was a fluke, as no others have been this put together and good.

Tldr with spoilers (you were warned):

- sweet traumatized heroine on the run who is smart, empathetic, levelheaded. So easy to root for!! Love Cornelia! Uber tragic backstory, but also horrifyingly real. Emotional growth
- Genuinely likable MMC (especially for a rejected mates book!) Axel is down bad for Cornelia from the jump. He’s like, an actual good guy in a super tough situation. You won’t hate him, I promise. Plus, a spicy soft dom with a praise kink? 🥵
- A seriously heartbreaking rejection, but followed up with his POV (thank you sweet baby J for this) and immediate remorse. Miscommunication abounds here (bleh) but both MCs have legit reasons for keeping secrets, and while the rejection is rough we aren’t made to sit in the pain for too long (and we don’t hate Axel for long either! 🙏🏼🙏🏼)
- Long delicious noble grovel 🫶🏼 seriously the rest of these alphahole MMCs should sit down, shut up, and take notes. Axel puts on a clinic for apologizing and truly earning her devotion back. So so good you can taste it.
- Action!! All the action!
- a sweet as honey HEA and epilogue, my face hurt from grinning… seriously these two both deserve everything and it’s oh so sweet when they get it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’m really not sure what happened but I fell into a time warp and devoured this book, and she’s thick. Were there some editing and continuity mistakes? Yes. Was there some repetitiveness that could have cut down the page length and made the writing more concise? Definitely. Did I still get absolutely sucked into this story and couldn’t leave it until I finished? Without a doubt.
I love a wounded heroine, so Cornelia being on the run and traumatized already had me in her corner. Add in her quiet strength, her kindness despite her circumstances, her determination to stay alive, and the fact that Axel wanted to protect her and she was likable and easy to root for. I also really liked Axel. He wasn’t an alpha-hole like so many of these books’ MMCs. He recognized her as his mate instantly and started making plans to somehow be with her despite pack politics, the fact she’s human, and an unwanted political engagement with a woman he’s never touched.
I thought I’d hate the assistant/CEO dynamic but it was done well. I do loathe the miscommunication trope, and it was used heavily in this book, however both MC’s secrets felt weighted and necessary, Cornelia’s especially. I was getting irritated with Axel’s secrets, wanting him just to tell Cornelia what was going on instead of layering lies upon lies “to protect her”, but since we had his POV we could see his struggle on how to the right thing and protect her etc. It did make sense, even if his reasoning was a little thin.
—- mild spoilers —-
Sometimes the rejected mate trope is a tough read, and while this one packed a punch and you literally felt it in your gut with Cornelia (especially given what she’s going through at the time), we get some relief quickly with Axel’s POV and the ‘why’ behind it. We also see him instantly regret it and start his search for her. It doesn’t make it any less painful, but at least we don’t have to suffer hundreds of pages thinking the hero is in fact, an a**hole. The authors also spend more time on the grovel than the separation, which I appreciated. Axel was everything in the grovel, and while I wanted a quick and loving reunion leading to the HEA, I honestly appreciated that Cornelia was respectful but distant, and took her time. She’d been through A LOT of trauma, only some of which was caused by Axel, so it felt warranted that she needed time. It felt authentic and earned, and it made the HEA that much more heartfelt.
I loved the bit of found family in this, though it could have been more. I wish it was slightly better edited and about 150 pages shorter, though there was a ton of story packed in and not a moment felt unnecessary. But I honestly loved that the authors were able to give us a sympathetic likable heroine, a true villain, and a down bad alpha hero all wrapped up in a rejected mates trope. It was impressive. 4 ⭐️ because I couldn’t put it down, and wish there was a paperback version for my shelf.
I actually liked this book a lot more than I expected to. So many shifter books are just carbon copies of each other. It was refreshing to have one that is actually different from the rest. The book did tend to be a little longer than so many others, but it didn't feel like it to me (at least until we got to the end with the multiple epilogues).
This was a really good story. It started out where shifters and wolves weren't even mentioned until we get to chapter 4 or 5. Since it started around our FMC who is human, though, it kindof makes sense that way. The book overall had the feel of a billionaire story with a little bit of shifter pushed into it. It still worked, though, and I did like it.
Something that we see in this book is that when he screwed up, she didn't just take him back right away. He had to seriously earn it. I do also appreciate that he actually realized that she came back for protection and not necessarily to be with him. There were so many bits of insight like that in the book, that it made things more enjoyable. He had to earn her trust back, and they actually did take things slow and start dating from the beginning. It wasn't just a token first date where they just jump right back into bed.
The groveling was great in this book, and it take a lot to measure up to my expectations. One of my biggest peeves is when the FMC takes MMC back with just an apology or with some lame token gesture. They need to earn it all back.
It Has All the Elements of Romance
This book had everything. It had the build up and character development, the OW drama, the alpha love, the rejection, the grovel, the villain, the comeuppance and the epilogue. Not to mention the spice 🔥
The sweet innocent Heroine works as the Hero’s assistant. She has a dark past. Her family was killed by a stalker when she was younger so is constantly trying to hide and is overly cautious. The H recognizes her as his mate. He is politically engaged. No feelings. No physical contact. I like that the H is not a womanizer. They get into a relationship but when h finds out about the engagement gets upset. H tries to fix things but the villain/s enter the scene. He had to reject the h so she can be safe. Heroine runs away pregnant. But H was able to track her after month or so and bring her home but he had to work for forgiveness. So the romance built up again. There is some evildoing with the villains and the h gets rescued. But now she is free to discover herself. So the H continues to woo her. They get married and have an awesome epilogue. Very ASMR plot. Satisfying.
Cornelia & Axel were amazing!
I really liked this story. It was super emotional, fast paced and well presented. Cornelia and Axel were both amazing, each in their own right. Cornelia is human, forced to flee from place to place, with a fake name and a lonely life because of a past tragedy that cost her everything and forced her in hiding. Axel is a CEO of a billionaire company, but also the Lycan King of the Clearwater Pack. He recognizes as his mate during a job interview and hires her. But external forces threaten their slowly blooming relationship. Axel has a lot on his plate, including an arranged engagement deal that neither he or the other party want. And Cornelia is a survivor, strong and hardworking. A rollercoaster of events occur before Cornelia and Axel can have their HEA. Danger, betrayals, stalkers, an unexpected pregnancy - the list goes on and on. I loved every page. 4 stars.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book by new to me authors. This is not a genre that I normally read, but I saw a snippet of the book on social media and decided to give it a try. I loved getting to know Cornelia and Axel. The story was well fleshed out with angst and groveling. I appreciated that Axel did not force Cornelia to make any decisions towards the end and was pleased with their HEA. Axel was refreshing in a way, an alpha who actually wasn't afraid to show his emotions. That is a rarity in books.
However I though two areas of the book could have been a bit longer, one when she ran from him about halfway through the book, and again at the end. Authors these days seem to abruptly end their stories, and I don't care for it. Otherwise it was a solid book.
Lycan King's Second Chane Pregnant Mate...
A Rejected Mate Secret Baby Shifter book. Axel and Sara aka Cora. She's been on the run for a long time after some serious traumatic events. Axel, a billionaire shifter with the world at his feet. Everything is not as it seems. And life goes a bit dysfunctional once he meets her and knows that she is his fated mate. So twisty, you never see it coming. High drama, angsty AF, and smexiness throughout the whole book. A new author for me, but definitely some good reading.
Ignore the comments and size of the book. It was great and I read it one ONE DAY ... Happily
If you want all the feels .. good, bad, sad, to cry, to laugh... this is the book. What a strong fmc, what a great mmc. No one is perfect but they both grew so much and he gained redemption for his mistakes and then some. If you hate it when an fmc takes back an mmc too quickly then this is the book for you. I loved this book. I went back and forth a long time but I saw someone make a similar comment about the mmc actually working towards forgiveness so I jumped and im so glad I did
1.5⭐️ Why did I read over 60% of this book before DNFing? Such a waste of time! Honestly, it wouldn’t have been bad if it was half the length. It could have been done and wrapped up in less than 300 pages.
It could definitely have been more actual tension. More real connection between the FMC and MMC. Daliah was way too easy going and supportive. Her having a little claw could have been fun. Several inconsistencies and overall way too much filler words. But the book in half…add some more tension and this would be great.
better than most
I appreciate that these authors switch up their plots enough in each book to make them unique, even though they’re working with a basic formula - male is alpha wolf, involved with ow when he meets his fated mate, female mc finds out about ow and feels betrayed and runs away, finds out she’s pregnant. Goes into hiding. Dangerous male may be stalking and hunting her. There is danger. But beyond that formula, the plots vary greatly. I’ve enjoyed these books and I thought this was one of the better ones.
So. Many. Plot. Holes. 🕳️
It’s like she had certain sayings she wanted in the book and then forwent the plot to keep it in even when the timeline doesn’t match. It also felt like she was writing a paper in high school and needed to hit the word count, so sometimes there’s like 5 paragraphs saying the same thing just worded differently. This story could have benefited from a different editor, it probably would have been slightly shorter but more than likely better.
