The Echoes in the Cabin is a haunting, atmospheric thriller that blends grief, memory, and the uncanny in a way that lingers long after you finish. From the moment Elin returns to the windswept coast of Anglesey — the same place where her mother was lost to the sea — the story wraps itself in a quiet, aching tension.

The grief hologram concept is such an intriguing hook. At first, it feels like a gentle, futuristic comfort: a digital reconstruction meant to soothe the bereaved. But the shift from solace to something far more sinister is handled beautifully. When the avatar begins to behave in ways it shouldn’t, speaking words that cut straight through Elin’s fragile calm, the book takes on a chilling new dimension.

The coastal setting is wonderfully done — eerie, isolated, and full of echoes. You can almost feel the salt wind and hear the waves crashing as Elin starts to suspect that the recent tragedy and her mother’s death are connected. The sense of being watched, of something old and unresolved stirring beneath the surface, builds steadily and effectively.

What I loved most is how the story balances emotional depth with creeping suspense. Elin’s grief feels real and raw, and that vulnerability makes the unfolding mystery even more gripping. The blend of psychological tension and subtle supernatural elements creates a compelling, unsettling atmosphere.

A beautifully written, quietly chilling thriller with a clever premise and a strong emotional core. Perfect for readers who enjoy stories where the past refuses to stay buried — and where technology becomes just another doorway for the truth to slip through.

I love this author’s books because you always get a bit of a spooky, ghostly read, and I really enjoyed this one. Elin and her sister Nerys never got closure on their mum, who went out one evening and never came home. That night there was a bad storm, and a young man also went missing. The police said the sea took them, but their Nan never got over it. Elin leaves the village to start a new life with her partner, Cai. When Cai is working on a dig in her home village, he is killed in a hit-and-run, so Elin returns to her old town. I won’t say more, but it’s so good—very twisty!

📚 ARC Review 📚
Thank you to the author, Avon Books UK and NetGalley for the advance reader copy! As always, my review reflects my honest opinion.

Unfortunately, this one just wasn't the right fit for me. While the ghostly and supernatural elements immediately caught my attention, I had a difficult time connecting with the characters, which made it harder for me to stay invested in the story. The pacing also felt slower than I typically enjoy, and I found myself struggling to stay engaged.

That said, I can absolutely see this being a great read for fans of atmospheric suspense. If you enjoy small-town mysteries, eerie twists, creepy settings, and psychological thrillers with supernatural elements, this book may be exactly what you're looking for. The story blends unsolved deaths, ghostly warnings, and a haunting atmosphere that gradually builds throughout.

Even though this one wasn’t for me, I am grateful for the opportunity to read it early. Every book finds its readers, and while this one didn't quite work for me, I have no doubt many others will enjoy its chilling atmosphere and supernatural mystery.

This wasn't quite the book for me, but I still found it enjoyable overall. It had a bit of a Black Mirror feel in places with the grief hologram technology, although it becomes much more supernatural than technology-focused as the story goes on.
Elin is an interesting main character and you really feel how much grief has shaped her and the decisions she makes. Returning to Anglesey brings her back to the loss of her mother as well as a new tragedy, and I liked how the relationships, family history and secrets from the past gradually became tangled together. At times I did find myself getting a little frustrated with some of the characters and their choices, and I don't think I connected with them quite enough to become completely invested.
The atmosphere was probably my favourite part. It's creepy and unsettling without being outright horror, and I liked the exploration of grief and how far someone might go for the chance to connect with someone they've lost.
Not completely for me, but an enjoyable 3-star read. If you like creepy, atmospheric thrillers with family secrets, grief and supernatural elements, I think you'll enjoy this one.

Whodunit mystery (not horror), lots and lots of melodrama, POV and time jumping, only slightly supernatural (if you squint).

I've lost the track of the side characters *ah eto bleh dot gif*

The hologram shows up in the second half of the book and oh boy when I die please don't feed me to AI.

Christ I really hate the trope of a character going solo to a secluded place that they know is dangerous. I mean cmon.

Libby ex machina. Good for her, I guess.
