In this novel, Evergreen, our survivors of the Medusa virus, after another tragedy that shakes them to the core, settle in what appears to be a Utopia, the experimental township of Evergreen, a place that runs on solar energy and is fundamentally self-sufficient. Though ravaged by the virus, the remaining citizens welcome the travellers and it seems that Adam, Sarah, Freddie and Max have found a place to call home. But one person’s paradise is another’s hell and while some of the characters determine to grasp what happiness they can, there are those determined to destroy it, regardless of the cost or who they hurt in the process.
I thought the pace might slow in this book with the primary characters finding a safe haven, but nothing could be further from the truth. Kazzie uses the static location as an excuse to explore the leads’ inner demons as well as expand the search for Adam’s daughter, Rachel. So we have on the one hand the physical difficulties of trying to start afresh while everything lost is still so raw, but more importantly, the psychological tensions the juxtaposition between the old world and those this new, stark and dangerous one create. How can anyone “move on” when the world as they know it has stopped?
A page-turner that had me buying the next one immediately.

Those immune to the Medusa virus are certainly not immune to the darker impulses of human nature. Volume 3 offers a chilling reminder that one man's utopia is another man's abomination, and the power struggles endemic to humanity since civilization's dawn will continue for as long as the species walks the earth. All we can do is do the best we can for those closest to us, and for Adam, that means finding Rachel and protecting Sarah. Can't wait to see how those goals play out for him in the final volume of this great series.

This was my least favourite of the 4 books. Still enjoyed but not as fresh as the first 2 books. That being said it must not be easy to write many books about after the world ends as we know it and people have to survive. Of course there are mean men who want to sabotage the survivors so probably I have read too many books like this one but still enjoyed.

Love this exciting captivating series! Just gets better!

It just gets better and better. Not the apocalypse, the book.
Mr. Kassie is a very good writer and thankfully has his books edited. Very good indeed.

Our friends Adam and Sarah and the rest in peaceful ideal Evergreen are living happily, not having to think about the world outside much, except for the group who raided them once.

Freddie is seething with his rage, disappointment and envy. He has lost everyone he loved so why do all these people get to be happy?

We hear Freddie's and Rachael's and Adam's point of view as well as Sarah's, having to deal with the death sentence nature has dealt her.

I can't wait to get started on book four so here I go.

Decently rendered

Engaging read. Characters are relatable, scenarios pretty vivid. Scenes seemed to have more depth than the character development.
The world development in SM Sterling’s Change series was certainly more complex, more in depth. Much as Herbert’s Dune books, or Tolkien’s Fellowship.
Still, reading the Immune in the four book form, it was engaging enough that I’ll be starting book IV shortly.

Great

Really hard to put down. The third book in the series didn't disappoint. The story line just pulls you in deeper. I must say this series really pulls one in and just doesn't let you go. I can't wait to read the fourth book!

Book Three in the Immune series.

This series is starting to unravel for me as it's delving into an almost comical, good vs evil scenario, complete with a bad guy who has a god complex (even though, ironically, he doesn't believe in god) and a character whose survivors guilt threatens their very existence because he simply doesn't like Adam and is jealous his daughter survived?

Our MC's conveniently find an escapee who knows Adam's daughter but can't seem to figure out where she was being held captive, then they also conveniently find a green town in the middle of nowhere that has electricity and running water. Then an act of sabotage within their group forces them, you guessed it, closer to Adam's daughter.

The requirement to suspend belief is being tested - a lot.

(Rating 2.5) —- This is a run-of-the-mill end of the world due to a virus series. It follows a group of characters and they all go through the usual tropes of this genre - loosing their family, finding family, creating new families, sacrifice, communities, evil groups, end of world problems like food, water, shelter, medical care.

It wasn’t bad, and if you like this genre and maybe haven’t read many of these then you will enjoy it as it explores all these theme quite well, it’s just for me, because I’ve read quite a few of these types of series, it didn’t provide a new perspective.

Evergreen

To be in a town that still has electricity is a miracle. The fact that there will always be someone that is miserable should have occurred to me. The events that took place in this book are truly believable.

The thing about post-apocalypse books is that they can be so depressing. Evergreen was mostly positive - a very nice interlude. Author does a good job exploring the vagaries of human nature, but.....Anyway, I'm on to the 4th book. Feel compelled to finish the series.

Interesting apocalypse-series. Decent world-building, I didn't love the character-development in this one as much as the others

Keeps Getting Better!

Character development and intrigue continues through this 3rd installment of "The Immune". Will good win over evil? Will Adam find Rachel? Will this small group of survivors find a way to survive and thrive? Hoping these questions, and more, will be answered in the conclusion of this fascinating series! David's descriptive style makes the reader feel like he is right in the middle of the action, contemplating how one would act in a similar world where there are no longer laws and rules. I'm anxious to read more, but, almost sorry this story will end soon. Looking forward to Kazzie's next effort!

Another good installment.

I had hope that Freddie would eventually come around.

The only thing that I took issue with is her reported hysterectomy. I'm no medical doctor however, I don't believe that one can get a hysterectomy by request. I know that one can get her tubes tied, clipped and/or burnt. There is also a procedure where material is put into the tubes and they are blocked forever, but never have I heard of a hysterectomy on demand.

This volume of the story started weaving the different threads in to the story and moving things along. The pace of action in this volume was a bit quicker than in the previous volume. I definitely was invested in the characters and finding out how their stories played out.

After the End of the World

Another in a fascinating series of novels pulling readers into the aftermath of a premeditated world-wide plague.
Eagerly looking forward to the next in this exciting series.

The thirds book completed the same day. It's a good tale of good, bad, very bad and lost. I wholeheartedly believe all these characters wall amongst us now. Really good read. Can't wait to see how it all ends.

While still a good story, unless something dramatically changes in the last book, it's still just "The Stand" lite.
