*****Spoilers*****

This was a book full of frustration for me. It's supposed to be book 1, however, I spent the entire book feeling like I was missing a lot that was never really explained well. Names and references to past acts and relationships were numerous. I got that Lin, fallen angel, used to date Evan before he was killed and Lucien aka Luc, a hybrid vampire demon, has a depth of feelings for Lin that she's fearful of returning. Guilt about Evan's death, some reference to her witch partner and housemate Jinx liking Evan, other tidbits thrown in without context or more information to tie the pieces together so that at book's end, I'm still not sure what Lin's problem is with pursuing something with Luc.

The male and female demon side of demons was interesting but not explained well. Whatever is going on with Luc and his demon father keeping Luc locked away and starving Luc. Luc's father's disgust with Lin as a partner for Luc. There's also the vampire side that's forbidden from seeing Luc for some reason that also isn't explained. I guess I'm supposed to assume what all of this stuff means but the measly details and extrapolate and come up with my own conclusions from what happens in the book.

The characters are different and there seem to be hidden agendas which kept me wondering what was going on in the background that could be revealed later. Although I expected more in terms of the necromancy role that Lin took on, I understood why her job was derailed in favor of trying to solve the mystery of angel and demon origins.

All on all, while the story has some interesting parts and I'd be somewhat interested to see what happens next, I think I'll let my imagination run wild to figure out how the series ends. It'll be just as effective as reading the whole if the next books are anything like this one.

Two races that may not accept the truth.

Lin has been a fallen angel for five years and is working with a witch partner. She takes jobs as an illegal necromancer, but when a routine job goes wrong Lin will find herself drawn into a mystery, and the possible discovery of the truth about the creation of the angels and demons. She has spent the years after her fall avoiding Luc, a demon prince she considered a friend at one time and now realizes that he may be the only one who can help her find the truth.
This is an excellent book with a diverse cast of well written characters. Some good, some bad, but most have their own hidden agendas. These characters kept me guessing and completely engrossed from the beginning of this book. Magic, some violence that is more off page and implied than descriptive, a possibly developing romance, and enough twists and turns in the plot to leave me reeling. I think this is a fantastic read and I recommend it to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC provided by Hidden Gems.

This paranormal romance is a wild and captivating ride! The worldbuilding is incredibly detailed, and the paranormal beings are refreshingly unique, each with their own distinct traits and quirks. It took me a little while to fully immerse myself, but once I did, I was completely drawn in.
On top of the romance, there’s a compelling mystery that keeps you turning pages. The story demands attention—you can’t just read it while multitasking. You have to invest yourself in the characters and the intricate world the author has created, and that makes the payoff very satisfying.
If you enjoy paranormal romances that combine love, suspense, and richly imagined worlds, this is definitely a book worth dedicating your time to.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

She has lived five years in exile and has become an illegal necromancer. She has a witch as a partner and she hides in the shadows from those who could ruin her life even more. A job goes badly wrong and she will need to turn to the last person she had wanted to. The prince who has never stopped loving her. Will he help her? See if he will

The book initially had promise. The take on angels, demons, & vampires was novel & interesting. As the book progressed, the use of the plural pronoun for individuals slowed down my reading a greatly detracted from the story. I recognize others may like this aspect. I didn’t. It caused me to skim to the end. Three stars because the initial premise was good. I was not the target audience.

Enjoyed it!

This story was interesting and the plot was engaging. Some of the transitions from one person to another confused me. The world building was interesting.
