September 2, 2026Super excited to dive into this ARC. The first book, The Lies That Summon the Night was interesting but very complex. Can't say I remember much from that world because the mysterious magic system was so complicated to understand. I might have to audiobook it to refresh my memory. I was left with so many questions, hoping this book would answer them!

While I love the world and characters, the turn we have taken with the story is my least favorite to read about and I’m becoming extremely frustrated with every page.
Inana is obviously facing a massive change and discovery as per the first book, but the way she’s approaching this with stubbornness, lashing out and pushing away the people who want to help her and support her is not something I’m interested in reading about.
If this is not something that bothers you, definitely pick this back up. The writing is the same high quality I appreciate from the author, the world is expanding which I actually really wanted to know more about, but so far the plot is mostly revolved around Inanas inner thoughts.

6 gigantic stars times a billion. I loved The Lies that Summon the Night and it was one of my absolutely favorite books so far this year. Well, this sequel just topped it. Absolutely stunning spectacular and everything in between.
The book picks up immediately where the first one ends and I was hooked just as before. This book shows the theme of what it means to feel whole, feel healed, feel real, and feel alive. Themes of found family and the kind of slow burn tension that makes you literally scream as they get closer and closer. But the story is Inana at its core. In the hardest and most gorgeous of ways.
The words are beautiful, the suspense was unreal, and there is emotional damage at the end where you are exhausted, mad, excited, terrified, sad, with every other feeling that would probably catch the attention of a curious Shade.
It may take a while to recover from the ending of this book. In the best of ways.

Every romantasy right now I feel is the same tropes and the same plot - trials, fae, vampires, regurgitated - and don't get me wrong, I eat those up too. But this series is something genuinely DIFFERENT, and it is so refreshing. That's what got me with book one, and book two does not let up.
This was such a great continuation. Watching the twists from book one play out was so, so interesting. I love the magic system and this world, though I'll be honest - it's extremely complicated, and I'm still a little baffled by how it all works. At this point I feel like I shouldn't be as confused as I am. But maybe that’s a me thing.
I love Inana and Dominic's relationship. He’s so loyal, patient and there for her. He yearns bad. She's carrying real inner turmoil after everything in book one, and it feels completely warranted - not the manufactured miscommunication-trope tension so many books lean on. And the found family! Found family is always the thing I appreciate most in books, and seeing it continue to grow in this one was amazing.
It did lag a little in the middle for me, and the direction with the shades got weirder and more bizarre than I expected - almost ick at times for me.

I was so excited to have the chance to early review The Words That Weave The Dark. The Lies That Summon The Night was phenomenal, and I was curious how this would proceed and I was slightly concerned about potential "Second Book Syndrome," as that seems to be happening often within the Romantasy genre lately.
This did not disappoint, Tessonja Odette knows how to world build in such a unique and immersive way and the ending of this was just as stellar as the first book in the series. I loved the chemistry and connection development between Inana and Dominic, I love a down bad MMC. Dominic was so devoted in his actions and his motivations were selfless. It reminded me a little of Mr. Darcy, if he was a sarcastic, badass Shadowbane. The romance did not overshadow Inana's own journey through grief and self-discovery, these themes weren't quickly resolved and while devastating, sitting with Inana in her struggles felt genuine to her character development and coming into her own power/humanity.
The side characters, new and old, were delightful. The Shades were so dynamic and hilarious.
With this series, I love that I am continuously on my toes and unsure of the ending until the book is finished, holy cliffhanger. I loved this, I can't wait to get my hands on book 3.

3.5 Stars — Slow Burn, Explosive Finish
First of all, as always a huge thank you to Ballantine/Random House Publishing for the ARC! The gasp I gusp when this hit my inbox and the way I reordered my entire TBR due to said excitement. Thank you truly, madly, deeply.
Okay so. That ending was boss ass bitch status. Dannnng! I did not see that coming, and I say that as someone who *firmly* believed I had this ending pegged right up until I was actively reading it happen. That ending alone earned this book its entire half star.
With that being said... I didn't love this one as much as I thought I would. I was obsessed with The Lies That Summon the Night and its amazing Sinless/Summoner storytelling vibes, but this one fell a little flat for me…not much really happens until the end. I guess you could call it typical book 2 behavior, but I usually love a second installment (Empire Strikes Back and Godfather 2 will always be superior, thank you very much). This one I kind of had to dredge my way through.
The world building is really well done just like in book one and we get the answers we desperately needed and deserved. There were some twisty twists and you know I love me a good twist. I didn’t see these coming!
A few things were cringe at best. There was a lot of modern day slang and sayings, and if you know anything about me, I am extremely sensitive to this. It yanks me right out of the world and back into reality — which is literally the thing I'm trying to escape by reading in the first place. If I have to read the word "folds" one more time I'm gonna lose it. Authors, we are *begging* you. No more slick folds. For the love. 🤮
All in all, I'll absolutely be continuing the series. I've come to love this unique story and the world it weaves so much. The character arcs and found family dynamic have me hooked, and I'm genuinely excited to see where this goes!

I want to start with the things I loved. The magic system in this book is so fantastic and it’s such an interesting commentary on those that have a “holier than thou” stance. “We’re all sinners. …the Sinners can’t recognize their own sin because their shadows have been stripped away. There’s nothing to mirror back what they’d rather not see.”
I also really appreciate that our main character is such a grey character. It leads to some great thinking points about loving yourself and letting others love you despite your flaws. Do those flaws and her past make her a villain?
Inana and Dominic’s relationship continues to be fantastic. Their tension feels realistic rather than relying on miscommunication. He is so patient and supportive in her journey. I also love that her found family accepted her. I wish we had seen them more on the page because they are so entertaining.
While I enjoyed this book, it definitely had a second book feel. A lot of the book felt slow to me. And I am a little over a certain location where the characters find themselves for a large portion of the book. It’s starting to feel common place in romantasy and it is not something I enjoy.
In similar fashion, the spice gets to be a bit much. The shadow play is…a lot. But the spice also plays an important role for the FMC, so I tried not to let it bother me too much.
I am really looking forward to the next book after that jaw dropping ending!

i'm new to tessonja's writing, having only read the first book in this series, and i am so impressed. usually when a first book is so good, the second one fails to live up to it, or somehow, something or another gets botched and it fails to deliver, but this delivered, this definitely delivered. there wasn't a single stagnant moment in this book. the plot and the romance were both equally balanced, and in my opinion, i did not feel like either one overpowered the other. it was the perfect mix, exactly how i like it.
the plot moved seamlessly, everything was clicking together, and the moment the 50% mark hit, the twists kept slapping me left and right. my jaw was open half of the time with how surprising they all were. some of them i did guess, but most of them were so crazy. i love how tessonja's mind works.
i loved how inana's character has developed so much. i loved seeing her finally get to know herself and accept herself slowly, and i love mori. adore her, and i can't wait to know what happens in the third and final book of the series.

The Words That Weave the Dark was an incredible second installment. We get some deliciously spicy scenes between Inana and Dominic, heartwarming moments with Harlow, Calvin, and Bard, and some laugh-out-loud scenes with Mori, a.k.a. Murder Squirrel.
But wow, was that conclusion worth the wait. I won’t spoil it, but we’re well positioned for the next installment, and I’m dying to have it in my hands already. Tessonia Odette is a master of finales. Book one’s ending left me a zombie for days, and book two hit just as hard. Send help.
One last critique: the book title didn't land for me. It feels like random words used in a game of Mad Libs. Someone please explain! The Lies That Summon the Night perfectly encompasses what the first book is about. If the title means what I think it may mean then "The Songs that Bind (or Bond) the Dark" may have been more appropriate, or "The Darkness that Makes us Whole." But I'm no author, so take that with a grain of salt.

holy wow, this was such a great continuation of the first book and kept me as hooked and that cliffhanger!! i'm bummed i have to wait so long for book three but so excited to also continue the series.
this is such a good fantasy and so different than some of the normal tropes you read / it has such a different spin on a different system and a breath of fresh air to read something completely different.
this book lead off from where we ended in book one and was nice to continue seeing the twists play out versus having a time jump. the magic system is different and intriguing, a bit complex even.
i loved seeing both main characters grow so much more in this one, and also their relationship expand.

I really wanted to love this after enjoying The Lies that Summon the Night, but the sequel just didn’t live up to book one for me. Not much happened until the very end. The modern slang and dialogue took me out of the story, and I think I actually rolled my eyes at Bard being coined “daddy.” Easily my least favorite Tessonja Odette read to date and I’m just a bit disappointed.

I read The Lies That Summon The Night as an ARC as well and was hooked immediately! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the second one and can I say- it did NOT disappoint!
First off I just love ALL of the main group of characters in this book. I need them all to live happily ever after.
Second, I loved watching Inana grapple with this new knowledge about herself and how it changes her relationships with the people around her. I really enjoyed getting to see a little bit more into the machinations of the rebellion and history of the sinless as well.
I absolutely cannot wait for the final part of this trilogy to see what happens, especially after THAT ending! I was SHOOK!!

The Words That Weave the Dark is exactly everything I'd wanted it to be. After the ending of The Lies That Summon the Night, I was absolutely feral for more and entirely desperate to see where Inana and Dominic's story would take us next. I already loved the characters and the setting. I'd been sufficiently hooked by the drama of this corrupt world, as well as what that final reveal promised in this second book; and I can say, without a doubt, that it positively delivered and exceeded every expectation.
Picking up right where we left off, Inana is forced to confront some enormous truths about herself, and I really appreciated that she doesn’t simply accept everything overnight. Watching her struggle with what she is, what she is capable of, and whether she can truly accept herself made her growth feel incredibly earned, even if that acceptance wasn't linear and perceived mistakes were made along the way. There’s something so compelling about watching a character slowly stop seeing herself as something dangerous or broken and begin to understand her own power. Each time she let herself feel a little more human made me so excited for her. She's so easy to root for.
And then there’s Dominic. His patience and devotion to Inana were so gentle and genuine. He's maybe one of the best book boyfriends I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I loved getting more into his head and learning about all the little things he's done to keep our main girl safe without her knowing - because he just adores her, not because he wants the accolades. Their relationship continues to build with so much delicious tension and yearning, but I especially loved that Dominic never tries to force Inana into accepting something she isn’t ready for. Their connection feels deeply rooted in trust, and the payoff of that slow-burn tension is so satisfying.

We get to see more of the rebellion and the Sinless, learn more about the magic system and the larger forces at play, and meet new and instantly beloved characters along the way. The shades continue to be one of my favorite parts of this series. They bring so much personality, levity, and humor to what can otherwise be a very dark story. Murder Squirrel / Mori is the type of character I don't think I would usually like, but all the fun she brings into the mix is contrasted by her gentle thoughtfulness that I feel really helps pull Inana through the worst of her doubts.

Picking up right where we left off, Inana is forced to confront some enormous truths about herself, and I really appreciated that she doesn’t simply accept everything overnight. Watching her struggle with what she is, what she is capable of, and whether she can truly accept herself made her growth feel incredibly earned, even if that acceptance wasn't linear and perceived mistakes were made along the way. There’s something so compelling about watching a character slowly stop seeing herself as something dangerous or broken and begin to understand her own power. Each time she let herself feel a little more human made me so excited for her. She's so easy to root for.
And then there’s Dominic. His patience and devotion to Inana were so gentle and genuine. He's maybe one of the best book boyfriends I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I loved getting more into his head and learning about all the little things he's done to keep our main girl safe without her knowing - because he just adores her, not because he wants the accolades. Their relationship continues to build with so much delicious tension and yearning, but I especially loved that Dominic never tries to force Inana into accepting something she isn’t ready for. Their connection feels deeply rooted in trust, and the payoff of that slow-burn tension is so satisfying.

After The Lies That Summon the Night left me with so many questions, I was beyond ready to dive back into this world, and Tessonja Odette absolutely delivered. After how much I adored The Lies That Summon the Night, I had ridiculously high expectations for this sequel, and somehow Tessonja Odette still managed to exceed them. This series has become one of those reads where I am completely invested in the world, the magic, the characters, EVERYTHING!!! And picking up straight after the events of book one meant I was immediately desperate to see how Inana would navigate everything she had learned about herself. My poor girl has been through SO MUCH, and I was rooting for her every step of the way.
Inana’s journey in this book really got to me. Watching her struggle with her identity, her powers and the fear of hurting the people she loves was heartbreaking at times, but I loved that her growth wasn’t some easy, overnight transformation. She has to reckon with all the different parts of herself before she can truly accept who she is, and I was so invested in seeing her get there. I just wanted to reach into the pages, give her a hug and remind her that she deserves to be loved, darkness and all.
AND THEN THERE’S DOMINIC. I LOVE THIS MAN!!!!! The dynamic between him and Inana is everything I want from a romantasy couple. The yearning, the tension, the way he remains so utterly devoted to her even when she’s struggling to let him in. Dominic is so patient with Inana without ever making her journey about himself, and the way he supports her while still allowing her to find her own strength had me absolutely GONE. I could read about them for a thousand more pages and still want more.
The found family continues to be one of my favourite parts of this series, too. I adore this chaotic little crew and how fiercely they care for one another, and the Shades remain an absolute delight. We also get some fantastic new characters in this instalment, particularly Finn and Tiago, who fit into the wider cast so well. I love when a series can introduce new faces without losing what made the original group so special, and I am already hoping we get even MORE time with everyone in book three.
The worldbuilding and magic continue to fascinate me, especially as we learn more about the Sinless and see the consequences of their power and influence. I love how this story explores identity, self-acceptance and the parts of ourselves we might be frightened to acknowledge, all while building towards something much bigger. AND THE REBELLION PLOT!!!! Watching everything slowly come together has me SO invested. The political machinations, the danger, the secrets, the feeling that everything is building towards something enormous. I've been eagerly anticipating this book after reading and absolutely loving the first book! Did I have to re-read book 1 right before this to remember what happened? Why, yes. Yes, I did. What can I say? I read WAAAAAAY too many books and honestly couldnt remember how the shades and art and whatnot worked. I'm advocating for authors to include a "what's happened in the story so far" as the first few pages with at least the plotpoints that are relevant. Help my goldfish brain, please! I beg you!! That being said, the re-read means that I went straight into book 2 with book 1 fresh on my mind. And book 2 takes off right where the first left us!
Now, I'm not gonna lie. When I started a book and was hit with PAGES of glossary terms/definitions/explanations, I was WORRIED. You would think after that request above, I would appreciate this. But, I was incredibly overwhelmed. I had to put the book down for a bit and psych myself up for what was to come. To say the leas, I was A TAD worried about being able to understand all the different types of magic/science.
But I just rolled with it. Whether I truly understood anything beyond: Sun Magic=Sinless, Moon Magic=Virtueless (inana). Sun magic users=bad. Moon Magic users=badass. Who's to say?
Inana has realized she's an incarnate and is trying to come to terms with this. Dominic is hunting down the remaining members of Henderson's gang that might serve as liabilities. The rest of the crew is trying to go about their day to day.
While I did enjoy certain aspects of this book, I think this greatly suffered from book 2 syndrome in that not much actually happened. Perhaps the first book worked so well because the troupe was traveling somewhere in this world which was new as a concept to readers and their aims and goals were mysterious. Book 2 lands us squarely in one place: a protected city. During their stay here Dominic is questioned regarding henderson's death (which he reported, understanding that there was no way around this). Meanwhile, Inana and the crew are set up as "novices" in a teahouse (very much a la cdrama- which I liked) to protect their identities as they start working & training with the rebellion.
Things that worked for this book: Inana's grappling with her literal inner demons, the found family aspects, the sinister depictions of the corrupt Sinless, and dear GOD, the smut (WHO DOESNT LOVE A MAN ON HIS KNEES BEGGING>!)! But after a while, I couldnt help but wondering....where are we going with this? Things that did not work OR were predictable: "Murder Squirrel" as a name (the character herself was actually hilarious), the reveal about

Trust me, I'm not overexaggerating. If anything, that might be an understatement....because holy sh!t. Tessonja, my girl - you are a mastermind.
Anyone who knows me had heard me talk about The Lies that Summon the night. It's one of my all-time favorite reads, and I don't shut up about it when people ask for recommendations. I've been DYING to read the next book, and it delivered on a level that's near incomprehensible.
I'm still trying to put my thoughts together. I devoured this book in just a few hours, I knew by the first chapter there was zero chance I was putting it down. These books are so unbelievably addictive and unique.
The Words that Weave the Dark picks up immediately where the first one ended, and the pacing doesn't slow down at all. I absolutely love the fact that we get to explore more of the darker parts of the magic system. The worldbuilding stays immersive, yet so easy to understand and visualize.
My favorite part about this book was also the most unexpected. I found myself weeping at times at just how deep and personal this story gets with the emotional depth. Inana is truly becoming aware of who and what she is, and the way that she starts to accept the even darkest parts of herself was written beautifully. The reflections she had were nothing short of captivating, and I literally had chills.
Don't even get me started on Murder Squirrel, the cute little fluffy ball of chaos and sass.
Dominic remains a top tier shadow daddy with his intense devotion to Inana. The way he gives her patience, reassurance, yet protects her just as fiercely as before made me kick my feet. Reading the chapters where we see through his eyes were a pure treat. The chemistry he has with her is nothing short of intoxicating.
🌶️ The spicy scenes in this book? Ma'am. I felt like I needed to go sit in front of a fan or take a cold shower. The shades are SHADING honey. IYKYK. 🌶️
My heart was pounding as I knew the story was coming to it's end, the suspense is literally woven straight into every word. My husband gave me looks several times asking if I was OK, because I kept putting my Kindle down and gasping. Like WHAT is H A P P E N I N G? WHAT DO YOU M E A N!?
You think you know where things are going, but you're not ready for how it all comes together and ends. I laughed, I yelped, I wept, and I wanted to go to war with these people. I'M A SINNER, LET ME IN THERE.

I loved book one. I love this book. I love this series. This has officially become one of my comfort series, and I already know I’m going to come back to it again and again whenever I fall into a reading slump because there is just something about this world that feels so wonderfully magical.
I really felt for Inana in this book, especially as she begins coming to terms with herself after THAT ENDING in book one. Her journey of learning to accept herself was genuinely heartbreaking at times, and I just wanted to wrap her in a blanket and protect her from absolutely everything.I also really loved getting to know all of Inana’s different shades and the sins connected to them. There was one point around 65% where I messaged Tess because things were feeling suspiciously positive and I was genuinely terrified. Her response? DEVIL EMOJIS. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO REMAIN CALM AFTER DEVIL EMOJIS?!
And then came the ending.

There was one point around 65% where I messaged Tess because things were feeling suspiciously positive and I was genuinely terrified. Her response? DEVIL EMOJIS. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO REMAIN CALM AFTER DEVIL EMOJIS?!
And then came the ending.
My jaw. Was. On. The. Floor
In the street team Discord, Tess mentioned that she thought this ending was less intense than book one. I’m going to respectfully disagree, Tess. 😂
I thought book one’s ending was intense. This one somehow said *hold my drink*. My emotions were everywhere.
There was SO much emotion throughout this book. I teared up more than once, and watching Inana come to terms with herself was genuinely beautiful.

10 STARS. Ten. There are some book 2s that fall flat due to pacing but this IS NOT one of them. We get so much deeper into the magic system with new *darkness* levels, constant fast paced plot and romance that had me finish this in one single day. I could not put this book down, it is just so unique and addictive.
There isn't a single thing I didn't like about this book nor this series, so let's just go into all that I loved-
This book has such immense emotional depth. I was even tearing up for Inana a few times. The author has such a poignant way of weaving her words to the point where you feel so connected to the characters and their emotions become wrapped into your own. Especially the heartbreaking the way when Inana is coming to terms with being an incarnate. She stops thinking that she matters at all and was even willing to fall on the blade quite literally if they felt they needed to kill her. "I have to hurt myself like this"...."I'm too godsdamned deadly, too unstable." It was beautiful to see the character growth and how accepting her shades reflected also accepting herself as she was instead of just a visitor in a body that she didn't feel entitled to. It was a gradual process with accepting each Shade and their corresponding sin, which as the reader I think it's a stunningly executed reflection of how we as people have so many small fallacies within ourselves that take time to accept. This author is just so extremely talented between the emotional aspect and building this world/magic system of art expression & sin - I am in awe truly. I can't say enough amazing things other than screaming to everyone how perfect this series is.
Dominic is so patient with her, reassuring she is it for him and won't waiver. He is her anchor and the tension when she was trying to deny wanting him was *chefs kiss* . Their chemistry just jumps off the page.
Last but not least, Murder Squirrel has a special place in my heart (aka Mori but we all love the murder squirrel name too lol)

Book Review: The Words That Weave the Dark by Tessonja Odette
After the revelations of The Lies That Summon the Night, Inana is trying to accept being an Incarnate, control her Shades, and find her place among the people she loves. Odette makes the world wonderfully immersive, and Dominic is a king of a man. His patience with Inana was a highlight, even when she lashed out at everyone trying to help her. This installment spends more time on their relationship and Inana’s struggle with herself than on the rest of the crew, which worked for me in some moments and dragged in others.
My main problem is the dialogue. The exaggerated, contemporary banter feels like YA on steroids, and it repeatedly pulled me out of Odette’s otherwise compelling world. That isn’t a complaint that YA can’t explore dark themes. It’s that these particular voices often felt out of step with the grief, violence, and very explicit sexual relationship on the page. Inana’s fear of what she might do to others makes sense, but her anguish and lashing out became tiring to read. Then she weaves Mori, a murder squirrel, and I had to take a moment.
I’m always wary of the second book in a trilogy, and for much of this one I felt like I was waiting for the larger plot to move. Then the Sinners Ball happened. Henderson’s betrayal comes back to haunt Dominic when Prince Leeran reveals the identities of his summoners. Lyla dies, Anders is hanged, and Dominic’s throat is cut before Inana drinks from him. That final stretch has genuine stakes and consequences, and I understand why other readers say this book avoids the usual middle-book slump. I just wish its earlier chapters had held me as firmly.
Inana becoming Leeran’s tribute to reach the solstice ritual, then telling him to get off her throne, is a strong final turn. It also leaves me with another cliffhanger and plenty of questions about Dominic. Odette absolutely knows how to build a world and end a book with a bang. For me, the dialogue and uneven pacing made getting to that ending harder than it should have been. 3.5 stars.

Tessonja Odette continues to impress me with the depth of this world, the complexity of her characters, and the way every revelation adds something new to the story.
Inana is still coming to terms with the truth of what she is, and I loved watching her navigate that revelation while learning to understand and control her growing powers. There’s so much emotion tied to her journey, especially as she struggles with her identity and what it means for the people she loves. Her character development was one of my favorite parts of this book.
I adored Dominic even more in this sequel. His unwavering love and devotion to Inana, regardless of what she is, made their relationship that much more meaningful. There is so much vulnerability, tenderness, and yearning between them. I loved that their romance continued to develop naturally alongside the larger storyline without overshadowing the fantasy elements.
The worldbuilding continues to impress me. We get to explore more of the lunar magic, the rebellion against the Sinless, and the complicated history behind their rule. The revelations surrounding Dominic’s ancestry added another layer to the political intrigue, while Inana’s growing abilities opened up so many possibilities for the direction of the story. The magic system is easily one of my favorite aspects of this series.
The found family remains another highlight. I loved spending more time with the crew, meeting Tiago, and seeing their relationships continue to grow. Mori, Inana’s little murder squirrel, was such a fun addition.

The pacing kept me invested, and the final chapters were absolutely incredible. That ending left me desperate to pick up the next book.

I received an ARC of The Words That Weave the Dark, and somehow this was even better than the first book. I loved The Lies That Summon the Night, so I already had high expectations going in, and this completely delivered.
This book gives you so much more of the characters without sacrificing the story to do it. Inana’s growth was probably my favorite part. Her realization of who she is and what that means for her felt like such an important step in her character. She is not simply learning more about the world around her anymore; she is starting to understand herself within it.
Dominic’s growth is quieter, but I loved where his story is going too. His entire life has revolved around the rebellion, and now you can see him beginning to want something for himself outside of that. He is still completely loyal to the cause, but his loyalty to Inana has become just as important. And these two finally truly connect in this book. They complement each other so well, and I love what their relationship has become.
We also get more from Harlow, Calvin, and Bard, which made me feel much more connected to them. They are not just people surrounding Inana and Dominic anymore. Learning more of their stories made the whole group feel more important.
And the reveals! I suspected one of them and was very happy to watch it play out, but the others caught me right up until the end. Tessonja Odette is so good at building toward a reveal without making it obvious where she is taking you.
The pacing also really moved this time. There is more character development, more world-building, and more pieces starting to come together, but it is still a heart-racing, high-stakes story. I loved every intense, page-turning moment.
And THAT ENDING.

The Words That Weave the Dark picks up right where book one left off, throwing us back into a world that is as intriguing as it is complicated. One thing this book does exceptionally well is expand on the lore surrounding the Incarnates, especially explaining what makes Inana so different after consuming all seven deadly sins. I appreciated getting more of the world-building and explanations that I felt were needed to fully understand her powers and the consequences that come with them.
Dominic? Absolutely loved him. That man was easily one of my favorite parts of the book. Inana, on the other hand? There were definitely moments when I wanted to reach through the pages and shake some sense into her. I understand that she's dealing with some pretty extraordinary circumstances, but good grief, that woman tested my patience more than once.
My biggest complaint is the pacing. Compared to book one, this installment moves considerably slower, and I think that took away some of the excitement and momentum. There were stretches where I kept waiting for something significant to happen. On the positive side, the spice was well-balanced and didn't overwhelm the actual storyline, which I appreciated.
Then we hit the 70% mark, and suddenly everything starts getting interesting, the tension ramps up, and the story takes off. And that ending?! WHAT. THE. ACTUAL.F**K
Overall, while I wish the pacing had been more consistent and Inana hadn't made me question my sanity quite so often, the expanded lore, Dominic, and that absolutely unhinged ending made this a worthwhile sequel. It may have taken its sweet time getting there, but those final chapters certainly knew how to make an impression.
