Giovanni Roma was jilted at the altar. Twice. Meeting Natalie is an enchanting distraction—too bad she’s engaged to another man. To top it off, Giovanni’s mother has a mouth with no filter and is obsessed with finding her son a suitable baby-maker.
Natalie DeMarco is a good cop with one problem. Cold feet. Her fiancé is a decent man, but she’s starting to wonder if decent is good enough. Maybe the doubts could be blamed on Giovanni, that guitar-making Italian hunk next door.
Giovanni knows he must do something, but things get out of hand when he learns he’s not the only one who objects to the wedding.
Dog Day Wedding is a fast, fun romantic comedy that gives new meaning to the term, “Shotgun Wedding.”
Humorous romance novels for men, women, and small farm animals.
Rich Amooi is a Taleflick Discovery Winner, Readers' Favorite Gold Medal Recipient, Holt Medallion Finalist, and the Amazon Bestselling author of 24 romantic comedies, including It's Not PMS, It's You, Dying to Meet You, Royal Crush, and Men or Paws.
A former radio personality and wedding DJ, Rich now writes romantic comedies full-time in San Diego, California, and is happily married to a kiss monster imported from Spain. Rich believes in public displays of affection, silliness, infinite possibilities, donuts, gratitude, laughter, and happily ever after.
Rich Amooi is at it again with another fabulously entertaining romantic comedy! I love reading his work, not only because it’s absolutely hilarious [which it is], but I’ve come to enjoy reading fun romance novels written from the male perspective. I don’t see too many men writing funny romantic comedies but if they could all write like Rich, there would be way more men on the scene!
Dog Day Wedding is written with Amooi’s signature male humor and is anything but crass. This novel is about a man named Giovanni Roma who gets dumped at the altar on his wedding day, twice! Talk about some bad luck, or maybe just some bad taste in women? The story follows Giovanni in the events that follow his unfortunate wedding day. Throughout the novel he meets some seriously funny people and gets into some interesting situations that will leave you holding your stomach from laughing too hard and flipping the page to find out what happens next.
Following the non-wedding, Giovanni has a hilarious chance meeting with a woman named Beatrice and her adorable little dog. In a twist of fate he then meets Natalie, a gorgeous cop that’s [unfortunately and surprisingly] engaged to the least passionate man on the planet. I enjoyed seeing their friendship grow throughout the novel and I found myself completely engaged in their story.
The main topic of this novel is love and the idea that you can’t force things when it comes to love. The point of love should be about making one another happy, not about putting up a pretense of a happy relationship. It shouldn’t be about materialistic things in life like a big diamond or a fancy car. It should be about spending time together and being happy with one another. You should want to spend every waking minute with this person that you have so much passion and feelings for. Love isn’t about having a big rock for others to notice and admire and ultimately, you have to let love happen naturally.
Filled with funny and heart-felt scenes, Dog Day Wedding is an absolute must-read, as was Amooi’s first novel Five Minutes Late [and likely anything else that he writes in the future]. Check out my review of his first novel Five Minutes Late for more insight on his writing. I recently introduced a close friend to Rich’s novel Dog Day Wedding and she absolutely loved it! I can tell you that anyone that enjoys romantic comedies will love this story. 5 stars for this hilarious novel!
Loved this book! I enjoyed every page and it made me smile, laugh and feel happy! Giovanni and Natalie are brilliant characters and I thought her grandfather was great, its a fab story and I'd highly recommend it.
Ok, I am going to say something that might shock you BUT this book so very nearly extremely closely knocked Five Minutes Late off its pedestal. I think it might have but still contemplating!! Hmmmmm Why this book? Well, I adored this book!!
This book is effortless I read it in a couple of hours. The story of Natalie and Giovanni. Now I shouldn’t be screaming at these two to get together because well Natalie is engaged yet when you read this Jacks, yes Jacks, who loves his car and job more than anything, is clearly not the right man for Natalie. But really we shouldn’t be cheering them to break up as we near their wedding day, should we?! We all do love a bit of drama and as it is with all Hollywood rom-com, you know how it must end! Love, drama and will the right guy get the girl?
As I flew through this, it was over too quickly! I feel like I have read only 50 pages, not nearly 300! This all proves my point at how effortless Amooi makes his stories. There are no lulls in the book, there are no points in which you are willing the book to end. Instead, I find myself asking how the frig did I get to the end already!!!
I haven’t even discussed Giovanni! This bloke, he’s a dream with an absolute baby obsessed mother!! Ready to walk down the aisle for a second time is where we meet him, with his best friends Danny and Steve who I just adored! But, again, the bride is a no-show, is there something wrong with him?! Something we don’t see yet?!
Another well-rounded support cast, Federico, Natalie’s Nonno (Grampa) is like me a believer of love and he is a man I would love to meet! Danny and Steve the best friends who just cracked me up every time they were on a page. One is the font of all useless facts (great in a quiz team) and the other, well he doesn’t think before he speaks and is like a dog in heat, both are so endearing I want them to be my friends!!
And that ending! My god do things get way way out of hand, all Big Fat Greek Wedding meets Al Pacino!! It just went crazy, but saying that, it was also probably, the bit I was laughing the most out loud! It was mental, and you could tell how much Amooi was having when writing it!
Another winner for me! Can this man do no wrong?! He has a formula and he sticks to it and it wins for him. I still can not understand how he understands a woman’s mind so well when I can’t even figure out what’s going on in my head 98% of the time!! His characters get under your skin, as you watch them fall in love with each other whilst we do the same. I am so glad I have got more to read otherwise I don’t have a clue what I would do!! But only 5 books to go until I have read every single book!!! It just doesn’t bear thinking about.
Amooi’s books are like a slice of your favourite pie/cake/ ice cream *delete applicable. Doesn’t matter how many times you eat it you never get bored!!
Giovanni Roma was left at the altar, for a second time. Not wanting to deal with his family and guests, he silently leaves the church, gets in his car and almost runs over a little dog. The owner of the dog is an old woman, panicking because her “Precious” has escape and is in danger. Giovanni is a good man with a good heart, and decides to do something good in a bad day. He leaves his car on the road and runs after the dog. After some running he is able to catch little Precious, but when he returns to his car a very attractive policewoman is giving him a ticket for wrongful parking. Could his day get any worse? After explaining to the policewoman the events that led him to leave his car in the middle of the road, she feels bad for him and lets him go with just a warning. What Giovanni didn’t know was that the policewoman was his neighbor’s granddaughter, Natalie DeMarco, and she is staying next door for the next two weeks, before her wedding. Circumstances let Natalie and Giovanni to become friends and soon after Natalie starts to question if her marriage to Jacks is really what she wants or if she’s simply settling because she thinks is the right thing/moment to do it.
Giovanni and Natalie make a perfect couple. They are just what the other needed to be complete and happy. It was very sweet and fun to see them fall in love. The secondary characters are hilarious especially Giovanni’s mother with her matchmaking antics and Natalie’s grandfather with his wonderful stories and his love for his deceased wife.
Are you having a bad day? Do you need something to cheer you up and made you laugh? Did you read a very dark book and need something to lighten your mood? If you answer yes to any of those, read this book. Dog Day Wedding by Rich Amooi is a fun, sweet, cute story with many laughing out loud moments.
Dog Day Wedding was my first book by Rich Amooi, but it won’t be my last, that’s for sure.
Great Funny Book! This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. It is a sweet and funny book. Giovanni has been jilted at the altar now twice, mainly because of his mom. He is a nice and caring guy so when he almost runs over a dog after leaving the church he goes after the dog. When he gets back to his car he finds an enchanting policewoman writing him a ticket. Natalie is engaged to a decent man but she is having cold feet. When Natalie and Giovanni become friends she starts to question whether or not she is marrying the wrong guy. This book is so funny and kept me reading until the end. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
There are so many things I love about this book. Its a very fun read. You will laugh out loud so many times because of the off the wall things that are done and said between the characters.
Giovanni has been left at the alter, for the second time. Mainly because of Eleonora, his mother. But, he is a very caring and fun guy. After leaving his wedding, a domino of bad things happens. And he ends up with a dog to dog sit and a new cute cop friend, Natalie.
Natalie lives next door to Giovanni with her grandfather Federico. She is engaged to marry the jackass Jacks. Obviously, he a very selfish person, who is in love with his car. Natalie feels a connection with Giovanni but she has given her word to Jacks because, she knows nobody is perfect.
Federico was awesome and so good spirited. Everything he said ended with an exclamation point! I loved his stories ... Even the movie ones!
Stevie and Danny were freaking hilarious. Danny the know it all, literally knows everything and Stevie the dirty one!
Eleonora was a crazy momma! Baby this, baby that.... All she wanted was grand babies... And she wants them now. She is so very dramatic but badass.
The story gets better and better the more you read. I obviously can't say too much because its just better for everyone just to read it!
This is truly a fun story in a males POV. Rich's writing is always amazing and he never disappoints.
This was fun. It wasn’t challenging, heart wrenching or provocative, but it was definitely good, honest fun. What I would grab this for is when you are having a stressful day and just want to unwind with a nice cuppa and a relaxing read. The characters are congenial, the story is gently paced and not taxing and a bit goofy in places.

This book starts with Giovanni Roma being left standing at the alter. For the second time! My first thought was "What's wrong with this guy?" We do find out what the problem is but you will have to read the book to find out.
As Giovanni is driving away from the church he hears a woman screaming for help because her little dog has escaped and she is afraid for it's safety. Being a good guy, Giovanni parks his car (illegally) and goes after the dog. He catches the dog and returns her to her owner but when he goes back to his car he sees a policewoman writing him a ticket. He's really having a bad day but manages to talk her out of the ticket.
I loved this fun romantic comedy. Everything happens in a fairly short time frame but it doesn't feel rushed. The author has such an illustrative way of writing that you can easily follow the story - laughing all the way. The dialogue is terrific making you love the characters. I must say, written from the male POV this book opened my eyes to many things. For example, I had no idea that men could feel things so deeply. I thought that was a female thing.
I also loved the way the characters happened to meet. I especially liked that the cop was Giovanni's neighbor's granddaughter who was staying with him for a couple of weeks. That was the perfect way for Giovanni and Natalie to get to know each other better. Unfortunately for both of them, Natalie was engaged to Jacks. This was unfortunate because Giovanni and Natalie were attracted to each other but couldn't do anything about the feelings they felt since she was getting married soon. It also sucked that Jacks really didn't love Natalie much. I loved Giovanni's neighbor, Federico. He was such an upbeat, positive man that he made everyone happy when they were around him. Not everyone in this book was good though. Giovanni's mother, Eleonora, was so obsessed with Giovanni getting married and giving her grandchildren that she drove everyone crazy.
The ending of Dog Day Wedding was hilarious! I absolutely love this author and will be reading more of his work.
I freaking loved this book!!! And that cute little twist added in at the wedding???? I never would have seen that one coming. Ever!
Fredericko was someone I wouldn't mind hanging out with all the time. What a sweetheart.
But Eleonora on the other hand....no freaking way. That woman is plain crazy, and her husband...poor Alfonso is so laid back and normal. I sorta thought he should've gone on a long cruise and live his life after putting up with Eleonora all these years. That would be considered a big plus for him at this rate.
Giovanni's life long friends Stevie and Danny, were so hilarious. Danny, the know it all, literally knows everything and Stevie, the dirty minded one!
I love the fact that Natalie wasn't about to let Giovanni get away with anything. She was one tough cookie, but a tough cookie with a soft heart. I also like that their relationship started out as a slow budding friendship first, before turning into something more. I fell in love with Giovanni from the start, and really...who wouldn't? Even after being left at the alter twice, he's still such a romantic, but one with lots of good humor.
I thought this story was laugh-out-loud hilarious and so heartwarming. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
This book was seriously laugh-out-loud hilarious. Giovanni is left at the alter for the second time in his life. Giovanni's mom is really upset, she can't wait for grand children and has no problem telling Giovanni (and anyone else) exactly what is on her mind. Natalie is a cop who lets Giovanni out of a ticket on the worst day of his life. She's engaged to be married but is starting to get a bit of cold feet. When Giovanni and Natalie meet, there is an instant connection but with Giovanni just having been left at the alter and Natalie set to get married in two weeks, they know that nothing can happen between them. I loved this book, it was light and sweet and combined three of my favorite things: romance, comedy and dogs. This was fast paced and a pretty quick read. This isn't a steamy book but the comedy more than made up for the lack of sexy time. I really loved this story and can't wait to read more by this author! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet, funny romance!

Giovanni had been dumped again at the altar for the second time and now all he wanted to do is just move on with his life without his mother, Eleanora’s input. His two best friends, Stevie and Danny, thought he would be better off anyway since he really didn’t fit in well with his last fiancée, Patricia. On his way home from his non-wedding he gets himself in situation where he’s chasing a dog and leaves his car abandoned in the street. When he finally gets back to his car it’s in the process of getting a ticket from a female cop. He manages to talk her out of giving him a ticket and gets home and tries to burn the ex’s clothes in the trash can. But the cop shows up again to admonish him for it because she happens to be his next door neighbors granddaughter, Natalie. After this encounter things start to happen that are straight out hilarious and exhilarating all at the same time. Let’s just say a dog can be your best friend but always follow your heart.
Giovanni is jilted at his wedding and it is not the first time. He was stood up once before. The same day he was jilted for the second time he encounters and rescues a woman's dog. In order to catch the dog Giovanni parks his car in the middle of the street. Upon returning to the car he finds a police officer writing him a ticket for leaving his car and creating an unsafe situation. After pleading his case the officer lets him off with a warning. Later he finds out that his neighbor Federico's granddaughter is staying with him and when they are introduced she is non other than the police office who let Giovanni off with the warning. Instant sparks fire off but there is a big problem. Natalie is supposed to be marring someone else in two weeks. A very funny and sweet romantic story with plenty of quirky characters. I didn't want the book to end. * I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this story. Giovanni is an adorable man, who unfortunately gets left at the altar for the second time. He happens to meet Natalie, a super sexy and sweet cop who is the daughter of his next door neighbor... and engaged. The story propels you through wondering if she will marry the wrong man or give in to the hunky Giovanni's advances. The other man, Jacks, is a bit pretentious, so you don't really feel torn that she could be with him. To add to the cuteness, there is a match-making dog, a some sweet older folks, the always-there-to-pick-you-up best friends, and some baby-crazy parents. The story is sweet and hilarious. Seeing romance from the man's perspective is fresh. The humor is over the top funny. A must read for any romance lover needing a laugh.
I didn't think it was possible but this book is even funnier than the last. I didn't even care if I was reading in a public place I just kept laughing out loud all the time. I was in fits, I literally had to keep putting my iPad down so it wouldn't fall out of my hands. And what a story! I don't know if I'd want to pass on those genes if I had a mother like that. The poor guy had a hard enough time as it is. This book is a rom com movie waiting to happen.
Is there an Oscar for books? Because Dog Day Wedding deserves one for being a star in a comedy role. Rating it 10 stars.

I chose this rating because I couldn't find any more stars to use 😃😃! This author really knows how to make his characters Real! By the time you get to the third chapter you are wishing you could meet them and hang out with them for the next thousand years or so. Many of the situations are Funny, and some are sad, but all are life like. You know they could happen to you and/or your friends. You really need to read his stories, all of them, to understand.
I found this book on a fluke and the humor found inside was a pleasant surprise. As someone who has a dry sense of humor, I found this sitcom style of a book an enjoyable find. With interesting characters and an unpredictable storyline, I plan to read more from this author.
This is such a fun book. There's romance and humor. I loved how Giovanni and Natalie got together. His mom is a riot! It was nice to get her back story about her erratic behavior at the end of the book.
I was hooked on this book from page 1. I never laughter so hard so many times. I always enjoy his books and this is my new favorite until the next one I read from him. If you want a super cute, funny read this is the book for you.
A lively romance with some wonderful characters including perhaps the most horrifically embarrassing mother ever. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
This book made me laugh 😆 while we are dealing with a pandemic. I am a critical worker and I needed something to take my mind off all the difficult things I have to deal with day in and day out
Be careful if you're reading this book at night, in bed, with your partner. You may laugh loud enough, especially toward the end, and wake someone up. Hilarious.
Well, up until 33% I didn’t like this at all, but I think I ended up liking it because of the narrator. This had a LOT of laughter in it and Michael Ferraiuolo laughed every time someone was supposed to. The story didn’t even say that someone laughed Michael Ferraiuolo just did it at the most perfect times. He was awesome.
It was all about Giovanni who was left at his wedding twice then ended up falling in love with Natalie, who was engaged to someone else. And at the wedding of Natalie and Jacks it just became hysterical.
Stevie and Danny, Giovanni’s best friends, were crazy and funny as hell. BUT Giovanni’s mother was completely insane, in a funny way. And Natalie’s grandfather was as sweet as he could be. Even the bad guy, Paolo DeManera, who was swinging a gun toward one person then another was funny.
Anyway, the story turned out pretty funny and very entertaining.
There was no sex but the were a couple of F-bombs that were SAID but not WRITTEN in the book. I didn’t get that. Also, in the novella Elenora kept CALLING Giovanni PUSSY but the book READ PANSY. Yeah, I didn’t get that either.
3.5 rating. I didn't read the blurb carefully so for some reason, I thought the FMC was going to be a tough undercover FBI agent. But I wasn't disappointed. This was quick and cute. The flirting had me smiling. I laughed a lot. Giovanni was the nice guy who finally got the girl.
I enjoyed Giovanni's idiot friends, and I liked Natalie's best friend as well. Yeah...some of the characters were caricatures, but I didn't mind that. The only person that irritated me was Giovanni's mother with her aggressive, "Give me grandchildren!" shtick. I really wanted her to get humiliated or humbled big time. I didn't think she got enough punishment. And there were a few jokes that were dated and insensitive...like Giovanni saying the T word.
Plus everyone, the whole universe and doubts were telling Natalie not to marry Jacks...and she didn't listen...that had me rolling my eyes. BUT...that was all leading to the hilarious final scenes of the wedding day. I did not expect that interruption. This novel definitely was a straight up crazy comedy.
This is a cassic Amooi story. It's funny with some over the top wtf scenes. Made me laugh out loud many times. I opted for the audio book and really appreciated the "american italian accent" of the reader. He was all in.
The story was quite basic but this is not the kind of super realistic story, it's a romcom all the way. I wish there had been more scenes with Giovanni and his friends doing something stupid, they were such a funny bunch. There could have been more flaws in Giovanni's character, he was way too perfect dreamy guy. His mother cracked me up and I don't know if that is a good or a bad thing, haha.
There were some lines that could trigger woke readers like a joke about a trans woman and calling men sissies/too girly.
