This book follows, season by season, each of the NHL campaigns from 1959-1969, and details the progress of the Leafs and Canadiens as one or the other franchise invariably won the Stanley Cup. In particular, Mike Leonetti has researched detailed newspaper accounts of the dozens of times these teams met and the intense rivalry that peaked between them in this era. One might think that a book whose written content focuses on short summaries of every game played between the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs from 1959 to 1969 would be a bit dry and redundant, but Cold War manages to keep the hockey fan's interest. First, as this is primarily a coffee table book, the incredible pictures, mostly from the Barkley collection, make this book worth it's price on their own. Secondly, Leonetti fills the book with short sidebar articles that focus on players, events and trivia related to the Habs-Leafs rivalry of the 60s that add colour and insight to the game descriptions. An excellent book for fans of either team, particularly those old enough to have personally followed these great teams in the 1960s.
