"জিয়াউর রহমানের আমলে আইএসসি পরীক্ষা দিতে বসেছিল উত্তরবঙ্গের দুই আলাদা গ্রামের ছেলে শওকত ও মাকসুদার। বরিশালের আরেকটা হলে পরীক্ষা দিচ্ছিল আবীর। পরীক্ষার হলে বসেই তারা শুনতে পায়, প্রেসিডেন্ট নিহত হয়েছেন। দেশবাসী শোনে উপরাষ্ট্রপতি বিচারপতি সাত্তারের রোগকম্প্র রেডিও ভাষণ, ‘আমাদের প্রাণপ্রিয় প্রেসিডেন্ট “হত্যা” হয়েছেন।’ দেশবাসী আরও শোনে চট্টগ্রামের বিদ্রোহী সৈনিকদের প্রতি সেনাবাহিনী-প্রধান এইচ এম এরশাদের আকুল আবেদন, ‘সংবিধানের পবিত্রতার নামে আপনারা বশ্যতা স্বীকার করে নিন।’ শওকত ও মাকসুদারদের আইএসসি পরীক্ষা শেষ হয় বিচারপতি সাত্তারের আমলে। তাদের পরীক্ষার ফল যখন বেরোবে, তখন এইচ এম এরশাদ ক্রমাগত সাক্ষাৎকার দিয়ে চলেছেন এবং বলছেন, রাষ্ট্রশাসনে সৈনিকদের হিস্যা চাই। বুয়েটে ভর্তি পরীক্ষা দেবে বলে যখন তারা নগরবাড়ি ঘাট থেকে ফেরি করে যমুনা পেরিয়ে আরিচা হয়ে ঢাকায় আসে, আর আবীর আসে বরিশাল থেকে ঢাকাগামী জাহাজে, তখন দেশে সামরিক শাসন, প্রধান সামরিক আইন প্রশাসকের নাম হুসেইন মুহম্মদ এরশাদ, সংবিধানের পবিত্রতা যাঁর নারীবন্ধুদের সুগন্ধির আড়ালে চাপা পড়ে গেছে......।
এই প্রেমকাহিনি সেই সময়কার। যখন একদিকে স্বৈরাচারী প্রেমিকপুরুষ, কবি ও সৈনিক লে. জে. হু. মু. এরশাদের বিরুদ্ধে লাগাতার আন্দোলন চলছে, এরশাদ একের পর এক প্রেম করে চলেছেন, কবিতা লিখছেন, রাষ্ট্রধর্ম প্রবর্তন করছেন, অন্যদিকে যুবাবয়সী শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের জীবন-জীবিকা-লেখাপড়া-সংক্রান্ত দৈনন্দিন জটিলতার পাশাপাশি গণতন্ত্র পুনরুদ্ধারের আন্দোলনে নিঃস্বার্থভাবে সংগ্রাম করে চলেছে।"

About the author

Anisul Hoque (Bangla: আনিসুল হক) is a Bangladeshi screenwriter, novelist, dramatist and journalist. He graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, trained as a civil engineer.

His inspiration in journalism and writing started during his student life. After his graduation he joined to serve as a government employee but resigned only after 15 days. Instead he started working as a journalist. He attended the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in 2010. Currently, Hoque is working as an Associate Editor of a Bengali language daily, Prothom Alo.

His novel মা was translated in English as Freedom's Mother. It was published in Maithili too. He was honored with Bangla Academy Award in 2011.

বুয়েট, বালিকা, বাহুডোর, বিছানা, বাসররাত, বিদেশ, ব্যবধান-- এইরুপ নানাবিধ 'ব'মশলার সহিত ডালের চামচে বিপ্লব তথা বিক্ষোভ নিয়ে আর ঘুঁটা দিয়ে আস্ত একটা উপন্যাস হয়ে গেছে।
যাকে বলে বিরাট বিনোদন। বুঝেনই তো!

এত জঘন্য বই অনেকদিন পড়িনি। আনিসুল হকের লেখার ব্যাপারে বিশেষ উচ্ছ্বাসও ছিল না। বইয়ের নাম দেখেই বইয়ের ভেতরের বস্তুর মান সম্পর্কে কিছুটা আন্দাজ করেছিলাম। বইটা তার চেয়েও বেশি হতাশ করেছে। খুব ভালো কোনো উপন্যাস পড়ব এরকম আশা নিয়ে পড়তে শুরু করেছি এমনও নয়। মূল উদ্দেশ্য ছিল স্বৈরাচারবিরোধী আন্দোলন সম্পর্কে একটু জানাশোনা। সেই উদ্দেশ্যও একেবারে ব্যর্থ। যেটুকু জানলাম সেটুকু আগে থেকেই জানতাম বিচ্ছিন বিভিন্ন আর্টিকেল আর ব্লগ এর সৌজন্যে। স্বৈরাচার বিরোধী আন্দোলন নিয়ে আমার পড়াশোনা শোচনীয়ভাবে কম। তাছাড়াও সেই বিশেষ সময়কালে আমার নিজের বয়সও ঠিক বোঝার মতো হয়ে ওঠেনি। সুতরাং এই বিষয়ে আমার জানাশোনা শূন্যের কোঠায়। সামান্য তথ্যও আমার জানার পরিধিকে কিছুটা হলেও বিস্তৃত করবে এইটুকু আশা ছিল। সেই আশাবাদ একেবারেই কাজে লাগে নি। ইতিহাস জানার জন্য এই বই যদি কেউ পড়ার পরিকল্পনা করে থাকেন, আমি তাঁকে নিরুৎসাহিতই করব।

ইতিহাস বাদ দিয়েও শুধু উপন্যাস হিসেবে মান যাচাই করতে গেলে এটাকে কাসেম বিন আবুবকরের লেখা হিসেবে চালিয়ে দেয়া যেতে পারে। অবশ্য এরকম প্রচেষ্টায় কাসেম বিন আবুবকর সাহেবও মানহানীর মামলা দায়ের করে বসতে পারেন। কিছু বিচ্ছিন্ন অপরিণত প্রেমিক-প্রেমিকা জুটি, ঝুকে পায়ে হাত দিয়ে সালাম করতে গিয়ে বুক দেখার উত্তেজনার মত বালখিল্য উত্তেজনা ছাড়া বইটিতে আর বিশেষ কোনো কিছুই খুঁজে পাইনি। রেটিং হিসেবে সর্বনিম্ন রেটিং একতারা দাগাতেও বেশ উদার হতে হয়েছে আমাকে।

এরশাদের সময়কালে কতিপয় বুয়েটিয়ান ছাত্রের জীবন-জগৎ নিয়ে কাহিনি ফাঁদার চেষ্টা করেছেন আনিসুল হক। তাদের স্বপ্ন, পড়াশোনা, প্রেম-ভালোবাসা, সাহিত্য - বইয়ের পাতায় উঠে এসেছে। সমান্তরালে এগিয়ে গেছে এর‌শাদের স্বৈরাচারী শাসন ও গণতন্ত্রকামী মানুষের আন্দোলন।

সময়টাকে ভালোভাবে বোঝার জন্য হয়তো এই বইটাকে আদর্শ বলা যাবে না। মনে হয়েছে আনিসুল হক আঁচড় কেঁটে যাচ্ছেন, গভীরে ঢুকতে পারছেন না। কিংবা হয়তোবা, ঢোকার ইচ্ছাই নাই।

তবে আমার কাছে বইটাকে একেবারে খারাপও লাগেনি। বিশেষত ভালো লেগেছে কবি মাকসুদারের কার্যকলাপ, কবিতা নিয়ে তার প্যাশন-স্বপ্ন-উন্মাদনা। এ সবই উপভোগ করেছি। ঐতিহাসিক চরিত্রদের উপস্থিতিও উল্লেখযোগ্য, তবে তাদের ব্যাপ্তি একেবারেই কম।

বইটা শেষ হয় স্বৈরাচারের পতনের মাধ্যমে। কিন্তু সমস্যা হলো, এক দানব যায়। আরো বড় দানব এসে উপস্থিত হয়।

I had read this book in November, 2024 - quite a few months after the July Revolution 2024. Being a genZ, July Revolution was the very first socio-political movement I had experienced in my lifetime. Being a Bangladeshi, I was aware of the political movements that my country had experienced from time to time, sometimes through history, sometimes through historical fiction. But this was the first time I watched, experienced, felt all the rushes, anger, panic of a real-all-out-movement throwing out one of the gruesome most regime my country has experienced after her Liberation in real time. So when I read this book, while turning each and every page, one common thought that was crossing my mind was - "History repeats itself"! Almost every phenomenon that I experienced in July 2024 seemed to be a repetation of 90s Anti-Ershad Regime movement - just on a larger scale.

বইটা প্রায় ৬০ শতাংশ পর্যন্ত বেশ লাগছিলো। মনে হচ্ছিলো গল্পের অনেকগুলো চরিত্র সুন্দর গড়ে উঠছে। কিন্তু তারপর এত তাড়াহুড়ো করে শেষ করা হলো হতাশ হয়ে গেলাম।

Anisul hoque main work is to give entertainment to his reader.His writing sytle is not so abyss.he wants to add autocracy period and love but i think he fails to capture the time.Anisul hoque wants to arouse the reader's libido. he gives pleasure but fail to captivate the reader.Poet,teacher,activist, politicians of the buets and their activities in the military period are the main theme. But those who want to waste his time but no work without gossiping can read for some nice poetries of the famous writers

If you have stumbled upon this book review by mistake, then apologies. Nothing to see here. Don't read this book. Why you want to spend more than 200 bucks for this garbage? Our struggle for freedom wasn't that easy... By reading crappy love stories, you will learn about history. Single tear.

বইটা নাকি অসময়ের গল্প।
৯০এর দশকের সেই বিক্ষোভের প্রেক্ষাপট নিয়ে লেখা। এরশাদ তখন ক্ষমতায় আন্দোলন তুঙ্গে... সেই সময়কার কয়েকজন ছাত্রের গল্প।
এক ব্যর্থ কবিরও গল্প। খুব জঘন্যও লাগে নাই আবার খুব ভালও লাগে নাই। লেখকের মা কিংবা উষার দুয়ারে পড়ে যেরকম হবে ভেবেছিলাম বইটা সেই আশা পূরণ করতে ব্যর্থ হয়েছে :/ ইতিহাস কমই ছিল...

The books is written on the context of Ershad's rule in Bangladesh. The writing style of Anisul Hoque is very uniform in each book, many stories happening at the same time and finishes with having so many questions and confusions in reader's mind. I like the part where I got to know the political situation of Bangladesh at that time with special reference to the students activism. Thus, it felt good to learn about the history in the background of stories. Highly recommended if you are looking for a light read with historical references. It has a good combination comedy, romance, political activism.

২০১৮ তে বইমেলায় শুধুমাত্র আনিসুল হকের অটোগ্রাফ নেওয়ার জন্যে এই বই কিনেছিলাম!! বেশি ভালো লাগেনি,আবার কিছু কিছু উক্তি খারাপও লাগেনি।

লেখার মান যাচাই করার যোগ্যতা আমার নেই, অভ্যাসও নেই, যেটুকু বলতে পারি, পড়তে বিরক্ত লাগেনি, উপভোগ করেছি ।

জায়গায় বেজায়গায় কোত্থেকে যৌনতা আসে ঘুরেফিরে, এই জিনিসটা ভালো লাগেনি । এই যেমন, "কিন্তু চোখ বন্ধ করলেই সে দেখতে পায় সোনিয়ার মুখ । কি যন্ত্রণা ! কি যন্ত্রণা ! সে দেখতে পায় সোনিয়ার বুকের জ্যোৎস্না ।"
