“I really don’t need anyone to take care of me,” I say.
“No, you sure don’t.” He levels my gaze. “But every once in a while, wouldn’t it be nice if someone did?”
WOW. I knew this would be good, but I had no idea how good. I couldn't put it down. Raya is so identical to me that it's almost concerning, and I HIGHLY recommend this book for any fellow oldest sisters with Type A personalities out there.
"Nobody needs to worry about me.
I can take care of myself.
I always take care of myself."
I was highlighting quotes left and right, and the story absolutely healed something inside of me. I'm normally of the opinion that speculative fiction is more enlightening than contemporary romance, but boy, was I wrong. Where can I find my own Finn Holbrook? Seriously. I need an ultra-caring, quasi-golden retriever, funny, selfless, Montana cowboy with a heart of gold. I love how he supports Raya so much and is always there for her; he helps her slow down and live life instead of always working, as well as gives her the grace to recognize that she doesn't need to have everything figured out.
"I constantly feel pressure to do something other than the thing I’m currently doing. I always feel like I’m not doing enough, and time is against me. Even after a full day of accomplishing everything on my list, all I think about are the things I didn’t get done."
Especially with this series about three sisters, I'm beginning to see how everyone's love story looks different, and that different people need different things from a relationship.
