Denis
I’m the best goalie in the league.
Just ask me.
Yes, I have an ego the size of NYC. Maybe that’s why I’ve crashed and burned all my relationships. Love, like a hockey game, is a competition. And once I win, I’m ready for the next game, the next man.
Until I meet him. Sterling Forest. The arrogant, obnoxious news anchor who calls hockey players thugs on ice. He tempts me…intrigues me. Makes me want to kiss that scowl off his lips. I want him to burn for me.
Instead Sterling is the one to set my heart on fire.

Sterling
I know nothing about hockey, and I’m happy to keep it that way. I’ve apologized for my remarks, but the insufferable Denis Bouvier isn’t satisfied. I even do the unthinkable and attend a hockey game. Okay, maybe it is more than brute force. But I can’t tell him he’s right.
Now he’s everywhere I go, and I hate that he fascinates me.
I can’t escape his larger-than-life presence, and that sexy French accent. The more I push him away, the closer he pulls me in.
And I’m afraid to admit I don’t want to let him go.

We’ve spent years running away from broken families and broken promises. But when life explodes around us, we’re running toward each other. And now that the unthinkable has happened, we need to find trust in each other and what our hearts are love is the one thing that ultimately can save us.

The Ultimate Save is book two in the Brooklyn Blades series by Felice Stevens.

Denis Bouvier is thirty six years old and is the star goalie for the Brooklyn Blades. His age is putting him near the end of a career he loves but Denis is at the top of his game. He’s nowhere near ready to retire just yet. We first met Denis is the previous book, The Ultimate Goal, as the ex boyfriend of Rip. Denis is loud, brash, and seems to thrive on being the center of attention.

Sterling Forest is forty years old and is the news anchor for the local television station in New York. Sterling lives a regimented life full of exercise, strict diet and skin care. Aging is his enemy in his line of work. He is buttoned up, extremely private and also hiding huge secrets and pain.

When Sterling and Denis first meet, we’ll just say that things don’t go well. At all. But the antagonistic way they are with each other seems to keep them coming back for more. Denis can’t seem to get enough of Sterling. Slowly these two finally begin to lower their guards with each other, letting the real man shine through. It doesn’t take long for them both to fall.

Both of these men have very public careers but privately, they are both so alone. One being a sports star and the other one a news anchor, you wouldn’t think they would have anything in common but they really do. Because of that, they understand each other and at some moments of turmoil in each of their lives, they are able to offer the support the other needs.

So, when I first met Denis in the previous book, I didn’t like him, at all. I have to admit that the awesome cover of this book helped convince me to go ahead and read it. As I got to know him, I ended up caring about him so much more than I thought I would. It was Sterling that I really struggled with. Even though I understand why he is the way he is, knowing his past, I still struggled with liking him. With that being said, together, these two men brought out the best in each other. And it was with that connection, they were able to face both their pasts and their futures.

I went into this without reading the first book, so I didn’t really have strong opinions on Denis and Sterling, but I honestly really enjoyed them as a couple.

What I liked most about them was how they both had their own struggles. Sterling with his mom and the way he tends to isolate himself, and Denis with his family, his past, and his struggle to be vulnerable. It made both of them feel very real. They didn’t try to fix each other, but instead supported each other in a way that felt genuine.

To be honest, I didn’t agree with some of Denis’s actions at first, but I really appreciated the way he grew throughout the book. It showed that people can change and grow, which I really liked.

I also loved seeing Sterling open up emotionally. The shift from being closed off to actually letting someone in felt natural, and their dynamic worked so well because of that.

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read. Their chemistry, the emotional moments, and the way they both grew individually and together made it really worth it. I also liked seeing glimpses of the previous couple, which made me curious to read more from the series.

The Ultimate Save - Felice Stevens
4.25/5✨🌟

* SPOILERS *

I really liked this story and it’s probably because hate to love is definitely one of my favorite tropes. I’ve never read anything by this author but I was sucked in this book from the moment I started it.

Denis and Sterling were such a fun time together. They were absolute perfect for one another. I loved how they started with intimacy and just couldn’t stay away from one another.

When Denis gets hurt, Sterling is there for him and so here for every moment of their bonding.

I love how they both have very different back stories but they had both definitely been through it. I also love how the push and pull was happening until they finally decided to lean into one another.

The whole drama with Adrien and Rip almost causing Denis and Sterling almost breaking up had my heart in a tight squeeze. I love me some low angst drama but I was not prepared for that.

I do love me a good found family that makes you realize they are loved so much no matter what they’re going through. Also, I’m a sucker for sweet moments and man, this book had me in my feels from the beginning to end. There is a bit of drama in this book but overall, it’s super sweet.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

When I read the first book in this series, I hated Denis’s character and Sterling did not make a much better impression on me. I was honestly so surprised that I liked both of them so much in this book.

It’s a credit to Felice’s writing that she was able to flesh out the characters in such a way that they became likeable. They slowly went from 2 men who could barely tolerate each other (even maybe hating each other) to both being possessive and a little obsessed.

I’ve always liked the enemies to lovers trip and Felice does it so well here.

I liked that the characters in the previous book (Rip and Adrian) made an appearance and that they appeared throughout the book and we got to see more of their personality. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them. Even more, I liked meeting new character in this book and I’m hoo g that a couple of them get their own books.

Looking forward to reading the next book in this series and based on how much enjoyment I have gotten out of the first 2 books, I have no doubt I will love it just as much.

I enjoyed The Ultimate Save! It is book two in the Brooklyn Blades series. In book one we saw Devin as Rip's ex. In this book we learn more about Devin and also Sterling, Rip's now husband Adrian's coworker and mentor. Devin and Sterling are the very definition of opposites attract. Devin is the party boy, arrogant, loud, hockey goalie. Sterling is the uptight, totally focused, buttoned up news anchor that doesn't know a thing about sports and thinks all hockey players are boots.

Devin and Sterling begin their introduction bickering and sniping. But when they attend Rip and Adrian's wedding, Denis gets Sterling drunk for the first time in years. This begins their journey together. After Denis is injured in a game Sterling shows up to help. They're sniping continues but they are drawn to each other regardless. Family secrets come to light and they still show up and support each other. I loved their journey. It was messy but the mess is what causes them to open up to each other and opens their hearts to love.

Thank you to Felice Stevens and The Author Agency for the opportunity to read this ARC! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

I wasn't sure what to make of standoffish Sterling and cocky Denis when I first met them, but their romance completely won me over. In the first several chapters, their bickering felt more antagonistic than flirty, and there was no doubt that they saw each other as enemies. I genuinely didn't believe they could overcome their negative first impressions, but when Denis wanted something he was remarkably persistent. What started as forced proximity turned into Sterling and Denis seeking each other out for steamy kisses. Even then, I felt like Sterling had one foot out the door until Denis let go of his cocky swagger and was honest about what he wanted from him. That conversation served as a turning point in their relationship, and once their walls started coming down it was remarkable how in sync they actually were. Sterling and Denis were each hiding so much pain from their upbringings, and that shared experience allowed them to understand each other in a way that no one else could. It was wonderful to see both men shed years of loneliness the more time they spent together, and with that time came an incredible love connection. There are so many little moments I could talk about -- when Sterling went to his first hockey game, when Denis showed up at Sterling's door after a supposed date and swept him off his feet -- that made the overall experience enjoyable to read. I found the hockey playing in this book energizing, and though Sterling's news reporting was less present I liked getting to see how he interacted with his co-workers. Life threw some big curveballs at these two towards the end of the book, and seeing Denis and Sterling turn to each other to get through them gave me all the confidence I needed in the durability of their relationship. I know Denis and Sterling probably believe they saved each other, but it was equally uplifting to watch them make choices to save themselves from continuing down their solitary paths.

This is book two in the author’s Brooklyn Blades hockey series and features Denis Bouvier, the cocky goalie from book one, The Ultimate Goal. (Just as an aside, if you loved Adrian, the sweetheart MC from UG, you may be surprised to find he wasn’t portrayed quite as sweetly in this one, instead being kinda pushy.)

Sterling, the other MC and Adrian’s coworker, was an uptight and standoffish news anchor who absolutely despised Denis for his tom cattin’ ways but, surprisingly, it was Denis who fell first and he fell hard.

There’s nothing I can add any differently than what’s already been said by other reviewers but I CAN share my favorite quote and the origin of the title…

"You're all I need. Every game I take shots and prevent the puck from going into the net. It's what I do best. That's why my save percentage is top of the league."…"On the ice I protect the goal. Here, I protect you. My ultimate save."

Isn’t that the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard??!!! I swear, my heart just melted like ice cream in the hot summer sun when I read that! This is one you don’t want to miss so check it out! For myself, I loved it and give it 5 stars!

So, this has absolutely nothing to do with my review because, as you can see, I think this was an awesome book but, do men in hockey romances not wear deodorant or something? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read in countless books that they’re stinky, smelly or smell rank. I mean, I know they shower so HOW can they smell bad? Clean sweat doesn’t stink; I love the way my husband smells after working outside… he’s definitely not smelly or stinky. Anyway, that’s got nothing to do with the price of tea in China, just something that strikes me as odd every time I read it; so, carry on and head on over to your favorite retailer and check out this book, you’ll be glad you did.

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

🏒🖤 The Ultimate Save by Felice Stevens absolutely consumed me emotionally and I regret NOTHING 😭

Denis Bouvier and Sterling Forest were basically one sarcastic comment away from either kissing or murdering each other for most of this book and honestly?? That is EXACTLY my favorite kind of romance.

Denis is this arrogant, chaotic, ridiculously confident hockey goalie with a massive ego and an even bigger heart hiding underneath all the attitude. Sterling is a polished, grumpy news anchor who thinks hockey players are “thugs on ice” and immediately clashes with Denis at every opportunity.

The tension between these two?? ABSOLUTELY INSANE.

Every interaction had:
🖤 banter
🏒 unresolved attraction
🖤 emotional walls
🏒 sexual tension
🖤 “I definitely hate you” energy

And somehow the chemistry just kept getting MORE intense the deeper the story went 😭

What I loved most was how emotional this romance became beneath all the snark and fighting. Denis especially completely wrecked me because underneath all his confidence was someone deeply lonely and desperate to matter to someone beyond hockey.

Sterling also had so many emotional layers and vulnerabilities hiding beneath his controlled exterior, and watching these two slowly let each other in was SO satisfying.

✨ Favorite Quotes ✨

🖤 “The more I push him away, the closer he pulls me in.”

🏒 “Love is about finding that one person you don’t need to compete with because they’re your other half.”

🖤 “I can’t escape his larger-than-life presence, and that sexy French accent.”

✨ Tropes ✨
🏒 MM Hockey Romance
🖤 Enemies to Lovers
🏒 Opposites Attract
🖤 Grumpy x Grumpier
🏒 Slow Burn Tension
🖤 Emotional Angst
🏒 Forced Proximity Vibes
🖤 Hurt/Comfort
🏒 Found Family
🖤 Emotionally Guarded MMCs

This book was emotional, funny, sexy, heartfelt, and FULL of tension from beginning to end. Denis and Sterling drove me insane in the best possible way and I honestly never wanted their story to end 🥹🏒

I really enjoyed The Ultimate Save is the 2nd book of the Brooklyn Blades series by Felice Stevens. I loved seeing so many of the characters from the 1st book return. I will note that there are references to the 1st book of the series in this one.

We met both Denis and Sterling in the 1st book of the series. Denis Bouvier is the goalie for the Blades. He is big and brash. Sterling Forest is the news anchor that works with Adrian. He hates hockey and is totally focused on news stories.

These two start off bickering and not liking each other. But they got drunk together at Adrian and Rip’s wedding and from that moment on they begin to circle each other.

Denis gets injured in a game and Sterling shows up to help him even though they are still bickering. They are drawn to each other and keep saying it makes no sense and out of character. However, they both have family secrets and are fiercely independent.

Over and over they prove to each other that they are there to support and help. It's in the small moments where they share their secrets and support each other that they stop bickering and fall in love.

Denis and Sterling are both so lonely but have these huge walls erected around them. Neither want to open up and share, but they know they are lonely and want more.

Both Denis and Sterling have been treated horribly by their families. I think that is part of what draws them together, even if they don’t realize it.

I loved seeing how they both struggled with asking for help and leaning on someone else. There were these steps forwards and backwards that required communication.

Like most books by Felice Stevens, I really enjoyed this new installment of the Brooklyn Blades series.

Steam: 4/5
Fun: 4/5
Overall: 4/5

Just when I think Felice can’t give us a greater story, she goes ahead and does.

I can’t decide which of these two books I like more because both have just been extraordinary. I had my reservations about Denis in book one after what he did to Rip. But like I always say, every villain has an origin story and Denis’s was quite heartbreaking.

He was cast away by those who were supposed to love him. By the one person he trusted. No wonder he had trust issues and never really gave all of himself to anyone.

Until Sterling. The one person who got on his nerves, was the one person that made Denis want more.

After making some unkind remarks about hockey players, Sterling sort of became persona non grata for Denis. Even after apologizing, Denis wouldn’t let go of his grudge about it.

Against his better judgment, what Sterling thought about him mattered more than he wanted to admit. Sterling somehow managed to become an obsession that he didn’t expect.

Despite how arrogant and egotistical Denis was, Sterling couldn’t deny that the man was infuriatingly beautiful. It was only a matter of time before the two of them ended up between the sheets.

But as they became closer, they both found out how terrible their childhood had been. Sterling being completely ignored and Denis being shunned, was the breaking point that brought them together.

We got to see the real Denis. The one in pain. The one who’s been holding on to trauma and the fear of letting his walls down. And that Denis was a wonderful man.

He became a pillar of strength for Sterling during the most difficult time of his life. He really showed up for him and in my eyes, he redeemed himself.

I loved that Denis and Sterling used their shared pain and turned it into love. Neither of them knew what it meant to be truly loved, but they figured it out and made it work.

Hockey romance with a news anchor?? Y’all I’m a journalist. Say less. I was so in. And I was not disappointed.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like Denis after reading The Ultimate Goal, but this is a fabulous redemption story and I fell for him so hard!

Denis is the superstar goalie for the Brooklyn Blades. He’s all about the game and having fun. He has a complicated past that’s kept him from letting anyone get too close. But after seeing the people around him find their happiness… he wonders if there could be some for him too.

Sterling is a strait-laced news anchor hiding behind his on camera persona. None one needs to know where he comes from or anything about his personal life. But why can’t he get this annoying, cocky hockey player out of his head? He doesn’t even like hockey… right?

I absolutely loved the complexity and development for both Denis and Sterling. They both have traumatic pasts that have hurt them and shaped them in different ways. In a way, they’re both hiding. Even as they both insist they don’t like each other, they both seem to sense a sort of kinship.

Denis is so funny! He has so many good lines that are quippy or heartfelt or romantic. Most of my favorite quotes are his! And while he’s tons of fun, he also is genuinely caring and his caretaking side really comes out. Once Sterling comes out of his shell, it’s easy to see he’s always just wanted someone to love him who he can love in return.

Alongside the romance, this book has tons of drama! Never a dull moment, seriously. You’ll constantly be wondering what’s going to happen next! I highly recommend!

I absolutely loved the first book, so I went into this one already invested, but I didn’t realize just how much depth Denis’s story would have. I knew he was hurting, but this book really shows how deeply his past has affected him. Both Denis and Sterling carry wounds from their families, and neither of them is used to opening up, which makes their journey together even more meaningful.

We briefly met them in the first book. Denis Bouvier is the bold and brash goalie for the Blades, and Sterling Forest is the no-nonsense news anchor who has zero interest in hockey. On the surface, they could not be more different, which makes the tension between them even better.

Watching them slowly learn to communicate and process their emotions was one of my favorite parts of the story. I am a huge fan of the hate to love trope, and this one delivered. Their chemistry is undeniable from the start, and I loved how their relationship begins with physical attraction but quickly grows into something deeper that neither of them can ignore.

Their dynamic is genuinely fun. These two just work. When Denis gets hurt, the way Sterling shows up for him adds such a strong emotional layer to their relationship.

I will admit that Denis frustrated me at times with some of his choices, but it felt realistic. You cannot always fault someone who is in love and still figuring things out. Sterling had his moments too and honestly made me question my own skincare routine a little, but that just made him feel more real.

Overall, this was such an engaging and emotional read, and I am so glad I picked it up.

I love a good anti-hero or redemption story, and in this one you get two guys that could easily be seen as emotionally unavailable antiheroes. Denis Bouvier is an NHL hockey goalie who comes off as arrogant, cocky, confident, and hedonistic. But he’s emotionally distant, doesn’t let people see the real him, and he’s lonely and jealous of others who are finding a partner.

Sterling Forest is a local newscaster. He’s regimented, cynical, a loner, and critical of hockey players. But he also has a mask that he wears for the public and doesn’t let anybody see under it.

They react strongly to each other and start out hating who they think the other is. They challenge and spark, resist and deny, but they get under each other’s skin without even trying. But as they spend more time together, they start to see under the other's veneer, and begin to be more real with each other than they ever had with anybody else. They both have their secrets And the damage from their pasts has marked them and still affects their emotions and causes trust issues. They’ve both been obsessed with their careers and have kept other people at arm's length, are lonely, and afraid of being hurt.

I liked seeing these unlikely guys pair up. I enjoyed the fact that Denis was the pursuer in the cat and mouse game, and that Sterling tried so hard to hide. But eventually they both wanted to support each other when it mattered. And neither of them had really known just true unconditional love and support before.

It brings back Rip and Adrian from the first book, and they have a significant part in the story as well, and also the other teammates that we met in book one.

Fantastic story

My review

🌕🌕🌕🌖

I’m not a hockey or sports fan, but I read the previous one, and I wanted to know how things went with Rip and Adrian, because I fell in love with them. And I was so happy to see them in this book, and I loved how Sterling defended Adrian. He deserves being defended against crummy coworkers, but it was nice to see a side of Sterling that isn’t as uptight and cold as it seems to be. Denis was weird for me at first, kind of expected without giving, but as the story develops, as we see into his past, well, their pasts, they become more relatable and interesting. I liked Sterling from the beginning, and warmed up to Denis as the story progressed, which is very good, because I want what’s best for my boys, and they are really good together. I liked Sterling’s willingness to understand things a little bit more, to soften his stance without fully changing it, and even though he seems to be hardheaded from the beginning, Felice does a fantastic job at setting things up for him to change and adapt. And the same with Denis, his character is set up to learn about commitment and giving, truly giving himself, and it’s a pleasure to see that. It’s a fun book, great journey for both characters, and I like that the hockey explanations are there, not bogging down the story, explaining enough for those of us who have no idea about hockey without treating us like we’re less than anyone else, and I think with enough information to satisfy hockey fans as well. I enjoyed it, and loved adding more lovable characters to my ever growing collection.

4 Stars!

I enjoyed this story, but felt a little disconnected from Denis and Sterling's story. I can't quite put my finger on why, though. In the last book, Denis was a nuisance, but one could see something was bothering him. Meanwhile, Sterling seemed uptight, and it wasn't clear if he was an ally or not for Adrian. I was glad to see that both men were so much more than they portrayed in the first book, The Ultimate Goal.

Denis and Adrian have their reasons for the way they behave and avoid entanglements of any sort. I can see why they both have a hard time opening up to anyone, let alone sharing the painful secrets they both carry. The moment that Adrian told Denis the truth and Denis reciprocated was amazing. They both needed someone to share those experiences that would support and love them. I was glad that they were able to be there for each other through so much. When they stopped with the push and pull between them and began to trust each other and the feelings they had, the attraction they felt finally bloomed into a relationship that was beautiful. I liked that they were able to form a united front before they had to acknowledge their relationship to the outside world. It was wonderful to see them find the family and love that neither thought they would ever have.

I think you could read this book as a standalone, but reading The Ultimate Goal would help set the stage for the complicated relationship that Denis has with his teammate Rip and Rip's fiancé, Adrian. Though I didn't connect this story as much as the first book, I really hope that we get another story in this series.

First of all my oh my what a stunning cover 😍 I've never seen a bad Felice Stevens book cover and this one is no different. And as beautiful as the cover is Denis and Sterling's story is also beautiful. That is when they get their heads out of the sand and figure out what's needs figuring out and stop going back and forth. But I guess what's the fun in that, right? Especially when Denis is a cocky goalie who can have anyone he wants but secretly wears a mask to hide his true self coming face to face with Sterling who is a reporter who doesn't care much for hockey or hockey players and has a troubled past he keeps locked up tight. Both men don't particularly mesh in the beginning or that's the case until lust paves the way and cracks start to form on both their walls. Denis might let his down first but he chips away at Sterling's until instead of running away from each other when things get hard and complicated they find themselves instead running toward each other. I will admit Sterling got on my nerves a bit but when I learned the way he was treated all his life and how he didn't feel like he belonged and a piece of him was missing I was able to understand. Trust isn't easily acquired or kept but Denis showed him that he was there for more than sexy times (which were pleasantly steamy) even though Denis had his own faults and mistakes in the past when he was looking for something he couldn't put a name to. They may be worlds apart in differences but they make each other better and they just work. I so enjoyed being on this journey with them and am excited to see what this series has in store for us next.

"On the ice, I protect the goal. Here, I protect you. My ultimate save."

"You are my top story. Beginning, middle, and end."

This is the second book in the Brooklyn Blades series, and though it can be read as a standalone, the characters are interconnected, and I recommend reading them in order. After having read the first book I was not a huge fan of these MCs but I'm so glad to have read their story as I was able to uncover their true characters and having them grow on me as i knew they would. I just love how Felice Stevens writes these comex characters that you can despise one moment only to uncover their true nature and endear and redeem themselves to everyone.

Denis and Sterling are the ultimate opposites attract but have more in common than they think. I really enjoyed their verbal sparring. Both guarding their hearts from past trauma and hiding secrets. The forced proximity due to their close-knit group of friends makes them grow closer and open up to each other, finding that common ground leading to the inevitable attraction. Their hate slowly buids to a want that neither of them can walk away from. Their story was just so sweet, and i loved how it developed.

It was so cute to see Adrian and Rip from book 1. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Much better than the first one (and that surprised me)

I liked Rip and Adrian as characters in The ultimate Goal but their story was weak, unbelievable and a mess. I disliked Denis, Rip's ex, immensely and wasn't convinced about reading The Ultimate Save, but decided to give it a go.
I wasn't sold at first because Denis was still arrogant and smirking but somewhere along the line, as he changed, so did my opinion. Watching him fall in love with Sterling, opening himself up, showing his soft underbelly when Sterling was around, was unexpected but so good.
Sterling was closed off, uptight, not allowing himself to live even a little. There was absolutely no joy in his life, he just existed, and it was sad. Seeing him riled up by Denis, annoyed but also curious and attracted, was fun.
Both their histories were very sad, Sterling's especially, and I loved how supportive and protective they both were of each other, real partners and obviously in love.
It did go from 'I dislike you' to 'I can't keep my hands off you' to 'I love you' very quickly, but I didn't hate it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and this time, it just did, probably because I was just swept along with them.
One thing that really pissed me off was Adrian. He behaved very badly, and took forever to attempt to make amends, even though we're told that he felt really bad about it. Then at the end, Sterling had to shut him down because he thought an emphatic statement didn't apply to him. Any respect I had for him in his own story is gone and, if the series continues, I don't want to see him again.

4.5 Stars

I am really enjoying this series and I will admit that I was curious to see how Felice was going to get me to like Denis, but I should know better than to question – I easily fell for him once I got to know him. And oh is he the perfect match for Sterling! I didn’t see these two coming but it totally worked for me!

Cocky, brash goalie, who’s one of the best there is, mixed with an uptight, incredibly reserved news anchor and you’ve definitely got an interesting story in the making and Felice really does deliver. Again, wasn’t sure what to expect with this one but it’s actually a deep and emotional journey. Yes, it’s got funny, lighthearted and sweet moments but it also has an incredible amount of opening up and healing for both Denis and Sterling. They may look like they have it all together to the outside world but they both come from difficult pasts that do not include much real love.

I did really like these two together, I loved their snark in the beginning but it evolves as these two open up and get to know each other and find something so special together. They go from sniping at each other to leaning on each other in a way they’ve never been able to with anyone else. I felt completely invested in their love and happiness and honestly totally forgot I wasn’t initially fans of them in the first book – nope I was rooting for them all the way. They are great together and build such a strong and beautiful relationship together, showing up for each other and finding the love they really deserve. A really great read that I thoroughly enjoyed!

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!💕 🏒⛸️📺📰

“Love is about finding that one person you don’t need to compete with because they’re your other half. They make you whole.”🩷

Ok somehow I missed the first book but as I read all the reviews regarding these two characters it seems this is more of a redemtion story which leads into a passionate love story!

“On the ice I protect the goal. Here, I protect you. My ultimate save.”

Oh my freaking heart this obnoxious, flirtatious playboy goalie Denis Bouvier is the ultimate romantic with a soft heart that beats erratically for sa chèrie only!

Sterling Forrest has a wall erected around his cold heart as a result of a neglected loveless familial childhood so he keeps everyone at arms length with a stiff, cold manner until Denis Bouvier relentlessly, patiently breaks down those walls and teaches him the real meaning of family and love!

Both characters have been abandoned and neglected by the people who should love and protect them no matter what the circumstances and so they deal with the pain and suffering in their own way…

The push and pull and eventually possessive love between these two broken, lonely souls will endear and enthrall with their passionate kisses and sweet comfort for each other but be prepared to keep the tissues close at hand…🥺😢

I did not appreciate what Adrian did to Denis and Sterling but he did redeem himself eventually…

A moving love story about finding your found family and other half just when you needed them the most!

3.5*

This book was not what I thought it was going to be.

Now, that's on me thinking I'd be getting a bad boy redemption arc narrative when what I got instead was an opposites attract romance!

Unfortunately, same with book one, I felt like everything happened way too fast for the love declarations to be happening, although there were jumps in this one which advanced the timeframe that Denis and Sterling had known each other.

But, like with Rip and Adrian's story, I just didn't feel the chemistry between these two until very close to the end of the book, after they'd opened up and told each other about their painful family backgrounds.

I liked Denis a lot, he's a man who's been traumatised in his past and he's built skyhigh walls to protect himself understandably.

But I found Sterling harder to like at first, even understanding how what happened in past would make him closed off, I felt he was just incredibly rude half of the time for no reason.

However, Felice worked her magic and made me appreciate both men as a pairing and the final third of the book was definitely my favourite part of it, as both of them came to support and encourage the other through some difficult times.

I'm not sure if we'll be getting any more in this series, there's one new guy at the news agency who is a possibility, but nothing obviously set up for another book.

✨ARC REVIEW✨

Rating: 4.5/5⭐
Spice: 3.5/5🌶️

WHAT TO EXPECT:
🏒MM Hockey: goalie & the news anchor
📰Enemies to Lovers
🏒Hurt/comfort
📰Slow burn
🏒The chaos agent and the stuffed shirt
📰Circle of friends
🏒Hate to want you
📰Secrets and lies

Felice somehow made me love obnoxiously cocky playboy Denis (who I once thought irredeemable in book one) and the aloof and, at times, seemingly hostile Sterling. Probably had something to do with the fact that these damaged men needed a lot of love and healing, which Felice supplies us with generously.

Denis and Sterling’s story took a turn for hurt/comfort in the best way. It was emotional, given the trauma they both endured, but it made their HEA all the sweeter.

I loved their push-and-pulll dynamic, their heated banter, and sexually charged animosity towards one another. But it did feel like it went on for a bit longer than it should have before they finally broke down those walls and realized what they’d been feeling for each other all along. There were time-jumps that sort of help explain the pacing, but it still felt a little wonky to me at times.

My favorite part was how compatible they were: instead of their differences clashing, it filled a piece each of them needed, balancing each other perfectly. But at their cores, they were like two pieces of the same soul. It was sweet.

Also…wtf, Adrian???? (iykyk)

I was a bit torn reading this book as although there was quite a lot to like, some bits I struggled with. I like a redemption story so was looking forward to Denis’s book, but I struggled in the first half as I didn’t find either Denis or Sterling particularly likeable in the beginning, so it took a while to feel a connection with the characters and being invested in their HEAs.
We knew from the first book in the series that Denis is an incorrigible flirt with a certain amount of charm, but I found Sterling cold and sometimes rude - not just to Denis, but to Adrian and his other colleagues too. Ultimately, we find out why both men are so closed off and act the way they do and that makes their behaviour a bit more understandable.
When they finally get together it seemed to happen almost too quickly - I know the saying is there is a fine line between love and hate, but this felt too instalove after only one proper conversation between them, after months of appearing to hate each other and constant verbal sparring whenever they saw each other.
I liked how Denis & Rip ended up as genuine friends after their split and some clearing of the air, and the same with the rest of the team supporting him too. I warmed up to Denis by the end after seeing him with the coaches on the team, his mentor and how his relationship with Rip and the team improved. Despite struggling initially to connect with the story I’m glad I read it, the final third was definitely the best part.

Take my review with a grain of salt. I am a picky reader.

Normally I enjoy Felice Steven's books. But this one just didn't hit it for me.

Egomaniac goalie Denis and super uptight new anchor Sterling basically hated each other from the start. Why? Who knows. But they definitely have chemistry and Denis wants to exploit it and get Sterling to give in.

Both of these guys have complicated backgrounds- Sterling more than Denis but still. Those backgrounds shaped who they are today and why each are skittish of relationships in different ways.

That being said, when Sterling caved it was fast and hard! It was like a different personality took over. Just seemed so odd to me. And with that flip there didn't seem to be a lot of emotional depth.

The little twist about Sterling's background was interesting, but another character said something off the cuff that made me think, well if HE saw it how does no one else?

Ok, what I just really didn't like was the slipping into French. I know several fluently bilingual people. No one talks like that. Was it supposed to be sexy? I don't know. Seemed silly and then I had to look the sayings up (just a couple that weren't obvious) and it took me out of the flow.

I also didn't like Adrian. A character from book 1 who is part of book 2. his nastiness and pettiness were completely uncalled for and really ruined what I thought of him as a character.

It wasn't a bad book at all. I just didn't connect.

I had a feeling Felice Stevens was going to make me like Denis and root for him, even though he drove me absolutely up the wall in the first Brooklyn Blades book. I wanted to punch him through most of that story… right up until the end, when I caught myself feeling a little sorry for him and thinking, “Uh oh… he’s becoming relatable.”

This book reminded me how human we all are, how easy it is to judge someone based only on what we see, without knowing the struggles they’re carrying. Sterling was the same way. He comes across as vain at first, but once you understand what shaped him, everything clicks into place. These are exactly the kinds of characters I love: the ones who fight their way through real obstacles and come out stronger.

Denis and Sterling were amazing together. I’d say opposites attract, but honestly, they were just as similar as they were different, and that balance made their connection feel real. I also loved seeing characters from earlier books (and even a crossover series) show up again, and not just for quick cameos. Their presence added so much, especially the incident with Adrian, which brought a great dynamic to the story.

Perhaps I’m a bit vindictive, but I’d have liked some people to feel the burn. Anyway, family isn’t always the people you share DNA with. Sometimes the most loving, supportive, and safe place you can land is with the family you choose. This book captured that beautifully.

Review of advance copy received from GRR.

Wow. I expected to like this book, and I did. Beyond like. I loved it. I love a good redemption story, an explanation for why someone is like they are, and we got this in spades with Denis, the bad boy goalie of the Brooklyn Blades. He was very arrogant and not kind in the first book, but we found that he had some reason for how he was in the first book. He matured really well in this book, and while there was one thing I disagreed with (bringing up one of his worse sins from the first book, when it appeared he'd been forgiven earlier), he was able to work through his issues and become the man he was deep down. I think it was interesting that the sweet Adrian from the first book still had a few issues with Denis and how he'd treated Ripley, and that they were able to work through all their issues. Not to mention that Denis came by most of his issues honestly - given how his parents treated him, but thank goodness he had the kind Gil.

Sterling and Denis didn't get along at first but they both saw something in the other that was hidden. Sterling had his own backstory and issues and they were dealt with - in some ways, in others they couldn't be, but that was more that his mother never acknowledged him, so he couldn't talk with her and deal with it. But with Denis, he found something he wasn't necessarily looking for, but worked for him.

I loved the way Felice wrote this story, she did an amazing job. Just a wonderful story.

What can go wrong when a goalie and an uptight news anchor cross paths? Well, everything and nothing... from the moment these two met their lives where irrevocably changed... for the best. Of course, they didn't have a clue that would be the case, but the connection they shared was almost instant and they just couldn't stand away from each other.

On paper, Denis and Sterling made 0 sense, but the reality is that they were more similar than they thought possible and they were exactly what the other needed in order to find happiness.

Their rocky start was funny to watch, like a car crash you can't take your eyes away from, but in the end the way their relationship started to grow was beautiful to witness. The way they let their physical connection lead the way but then let it turn into this freeing love was everything. Denis evolved so much as a character and the way he changed once he was given the chance to show what truly was hidden in his heart was so sweet. Sterling didn't have it easier and when he finally let himself fall for the cocky jock his life was altered in a way that shocked him.

Denis wanted someone to love, and Sterling wanted someone to love him. They took turns in being just that for one another, and I loved every second of it.

I am so happy I got to read this book, and the audiobook is also super good. If you are a fan I highly recommend give it a try.

4.5✨️ - highly recommend, but maybe start with book one? 🤭 don't be like me.

I continue to be impressed with this series. Even when I'm not a huge fan of the pairing, I'm wowed by the writing and plotting, which is a huge testament to this author's ability to weave a tale.

Denis surprised me in this book. With how sleazy he was in book one, I wasn't sure he would be redeemable at all. Truth be told, that feeling didn't go away until about halfway through the book, when something about him shifted for me. His redemption arc is genuinely well done, and his remorse for his past actions and his growth as a person felt real in a way that made me want to give him another chance.

That said...I struggled with the pairing. I wasn't a fan of Sterling as Denis's HEA and, if I'm being honest, I think Denis deserved better. Where Denis shows real growth and accountability, Sterling stays the same and because of that, he becomes increasingly unlikeable to me. Especially in how he treated Adrian. I just didn't see the same level of growth with him and what little I did see wasn't enough to win me over.

Still, even with those frustrations, this is a five-star read for me because of the strength of the writing and the overall story. This is a great series and, even if this particular pairing didn't resonate with me, I can't wait for the next book!

The Ultimate Save by @felicestevens
4.25 ⭐ / 3🔥🌶

Book 2 in the Brooklyn Blades series by @felicestevens does not disappoint. If you love MM romance, hockey romance, emotional depth and true character growth then this book is for you. @felicestevens is one of my favorite MM romance authors and she outdoes herself with each book she brings. Denis and Sterling are a complicated couple but the emotional layers each of them bring to the story are what make this story shine.

This enemies to lovers storyline is packed full of real life struggles, strong emotions, tension, growth and a beautiful relationship. Denis is the carefree playboy hockey goalie who transforms into someone ready for commitment and love. Sterling the news anchor who hates hockey brings an emotional depth to the page that leaves you coming back for more.

The journey for each of these characters is breathtaking. The unexpected attraction, heated rivalry and wounded pasts fuels a relationship that is explosive and just clicked. Their growth is dynamic, emotional, intense and healing. I am so happy Dennis and Sterling get their HEA.

Add The Ultimate Save to your TBR today it will totally pay off!

Thank you @felicestevens for my ARC.
