I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC and voluntarily will be giving my honest review. Just wow what an emotional roller coaster ride this was!! This is not for the faint at heart! If you love dark romance and urban fantasy then you will definitely love this one!! The world building was phenomenal and the characters were on point! This story was finding out what happens when the lights fade and are left to embrace the shadows. Definitely a must read!!

I'm not sure I have the words to adequately describe this story. the beauty, the intrigue. this was tension and emotional. the depth of this pulled me in and held on to me until the end.
I was so enveloped in the world building. I felt like i was actually there. the description, the characters were so vivid. it played out beautifully in my mind.

This was such a tense, emotional, and ultimately bittersweet ending to Juliet’s story. I’ve really loved the feminist themes woven throughout the Pledge Tales series, and this installment leans into them even more in a way that feels raw and honest.
Juliet came out of the trial completely shaken, and you can feel that in every part of the story, even years later. She starts this book defeated and uncertain, but watching her slowly come into her own was incredibly rewarding. Her growth is messy, reflective, and very real. With Asher back in her life, she begins to challenge everything she’s been taught and push against a system that was never built for her. I loved how determined she was to fight for autonomy and choice, not just for herself but for other women in this world.
The romance between Juliet and Asher plays a big role here, and I thought it was done really well. Their love isn’t just soft and supportive. It also creates tension and forces difficult decisions, which made it feel more grounded.

If Darkness Folding was a dark roast coffee with caramel smoothness, this book is like a Hot Toddy. Warm with a little bit of sweetness and a citrusy bite. Then, the whiskey that will encapsulate your chest. This book held my heart in a vise from beginning to end. I had to see how Juliet would finally overcome her challenges and step up to be the change the world (pledge tale world) needed. I was not disappointed. And I am deeply invested. Zoe writes everything with emotion and passion. The parallels to the political system in our real world are written so well. She’s subtle but deliberate. You have to pay close attention. Don’t read this just for the romance. Read this for the political intrigue and the female rage. For the love and heartbreak that women go through and how they persevere. Zoe writes about corrupt leadership full of awful men, but also about men who love unconditionally. She also writes about women empowerment and resilience. This book was amazing and heart breaking and all the things a good book should be. It’s her best work to date. I’m so sad this series is over, but I’m so grateful to have read it and been on this journey. What a perfect ending. Thank you for this book, Zoe. I’m so proud of you!

Zoe covers real life topics so beautifully (and heartbreaking) that it's fun to read but still hits close to home. From manipulative exes, to finding comfort in new love. Friends that became enemies, back to sorta having each other's backs again. A lot of laughter, trying new things, feeling broken and use that to be powerful after everything you've been through. Molding grief into something to help not only yourself, but others as well.
This is by far my best read from this year and it will be hard to replace this book as my number 1. I've cried for like 10 minutes after the book was over and my boyfriends response was 'wauw, that good huh' 😂

Juliet is dealing with the aftermath of lack of decisions and bad decisions. Her betrothed is in prison. Her world is falling apart. She's left with all new choices and the chance to rewrite her destiny.
As old friends and enemies resurface, Juliet is forging ahead into a world that isn't quite ready for a headstrong, smart, compassionate young woman. This world is used to meek and mild, something she's a little tired of being. As the plot progresses, we get to see her come into her own, dealing with heartbreak, loss, betrayal, and loyalty from unexpected places.
I was thrilled that despite the Romeo & Juliet comparisons throughout the story, Zoe Conley didn't just rewrite the bard. She didn't try to "fix" the ending to get the expected result, either. She truly made this her own story.

Juliet Laremy has finally opened her eyes to the world around her. Now she fights to stay afloat in that same world after being groomed to be something she never wanted to be. She thinks she is alone… but in reality, he’s always been there looking out for her. I have loved following her journey and learning with her. I had my doubts in book 3 of her. But this book broke me and had me in literal tears. Was I upset over it? Yes! Did it last long? No, because Zoe slowly put me back together with that lovely ending. There were lots of really good moments that forever live in my memory. From the moment I picked up A Way With Darkness to Darkness Released, I have learned to love and hate a few characters. I have also seen what happens when the right people fight for what is right. And knowing what is happening around us has definitely helped me cope thanks to Zoe and her books! I am sad to see this series complete but I have loved every page of it!

When the events of the rebel are brought back to light, Juliet finds herself allied with the one man she never thought she would see again.

Dang…what a way to wrap up this series!
We already knew from Darkness Folding that Juliet is a fierce FMC, but watching her growth in this final book was chef’s kiss. She really came into her own, and I loved seeing every layer of her strength, vulnerability, and resilience.
Darkness Released took me through all the emotions. There was laughter, tears, anger and frustration, but in the end, I felt a sense of peace.
Ugh, I’m really going to miss this magick system. Zoe, you are an amazing writer and thank you for letting me be a part of your journey.

So much growth from the writer in this book and there was a point where I was left in tears.
I have really enjoyed following Juliet Laremy and her growth and can honestly say I am very proud of this character.
The book is not as predictable as one might think when you start reading it, which is a high plus for me as a reader!
So buckle up if you are looking for growth, romance, spice, friendship, backstabbing, mistakes and intrigue.

This was so worth the read. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. I cried. So be prepared to sob 😭. I loved how everything came together. This will be on my mind for a while. The politics and how everything ends is perfect. I love Juliet in the end. How strong and brave she becomes. She finally opens her eyes and sees the world for how it is and wants to fix it. Asher my love. Love me a bad boy. 🫠🫠

This was a fantastic ending to a great story! While it does not have as much excitement as I typically enjoy in a book, it was still thrilling! It went very in depth with the characters, letting me feel like I really understood them. I enjoyed reading this, and the other books, by this author and look forward to more of her works!

The author does a good job of building the story. The characters are young and relatable.
At University, they are trying to perfect their magickal skills while trying to keep their families names at the top of the political runnings. Juliet learns more about her paired partner, Jaxon and all that she is finding out does not match what they had planned all along. After a fall out trial and years of separation, Juliet finds true love where she least expects but how will they come out on the other side?
Many twists and turns in the story keep you guessing and rooting for your favorites!

I’ve read this series since the beginning. "Darkness Folding" ended on one of the most abrupt cliffhangers I’ve ever come across, so I was eager to read "Darkness Released." It’s bittersweet knowing the series has come to an end.
A series full of simultaneous events allows you to become invested in the characters. While I despised some, I admired and rooted for others. Juliet falls in love with Asher, but he disappeared for years. He returns when she's at one of her lowest points, reminding her that she can overcome any obstacle because she is a strong woman, despite being constantly pushed down by the misogyny of their magical world.
In my opinion, Zoe is an exceptional writer. Her attention to detail, the political intrigue, and character development are so well done that you become enthralled with the story. "Darkness Released" will be available on April 17, 2026, and I could not recommend this book enough.
