Mermaids are real, and this is no fairytale.

Naomi Morgan dreams of the sea. The sound of the waves crashing and the salty scent give her peace that she can never feel in a house with six bickering sisters. The beach feels like home, even if she's not supposed to be there. She will defy all to be at the water's edge.

Upon finding a strange scale tooth, everything changes. Danger lurks around every corner. Naomi is finding herself having hallucinations and strange appetites. Something in the water thirsts for blood and desires her. The waves pull to her more than ever before, making her fear what she once cherished.

Can Naomi figure out how to stop the strange occurrences before the ocean claims her as its own?

Scales is a dark fairytale retelling told backwards. If you like books that take retellings in imaginative and dark directions, this paranormal horror will have you wanting more. Listen to enjoy a fairytale turned nightmare.

Scales is the first ever mermaid book i’ve read, which is crazy since i’ve always loved mermaids. Scales doesn’t feature your typical mermaids tho, these mermaids have sharp teeth and claws and insatiable appetites 😋. Naomi, our mc, struggles to deal with some personal changes and keep herself safe from the mermaid’s wrath!

When i tell you this book made me CRAVE sushi…

Overall i had a pretty okay time reading this. I found it comforting sometimes and easy to follow what was going on. I really enjoyed scenes when Naomi was facing the mermaids or dealing with her own changes, but her character grated on me. She just seemed kinda selfish and whiny at times.

I also feel like the characters were a bit two dimensional and the lore between lenora and her father was thrown in almost hurriedly. I was expecting more confrontation at the end.

Lenora was my favorite!!

Great mermaid story that does a good job with the suspense that will keep you reading the end of the book. An awesome horror spin on a classic story.
