Morgan is a born and raised Jersey girl, living there with her two boys, toddler daughter, and mechanic husband. She’s addicted to iced espresso, barbecue chips, and Starburst jellybeans. She usually has headphones on, listening to some spicy audiobook or Taylor Swift. There is rarely an in between.

Writing has been her calling for as long as she can remember. There’s a framed ‘page one’ of a book she wrote at seven hanging in her childhood home to prove the point. Her entire life she’s crafted stories in her mind, begging to be released but it wasn’t until recently she finally gave them the reigns.

💖 My Thoughts

I wasn’t immediately invested in this one, but somewhere along the way, it really started clicking for me.

Ava and I had a bit of a rocky start. 😂

Her bubbly personality didn't quite win me over at first, and some of her behavior felt a little immature. But as the story went on, she grew on me.

She’s unapologetically herself—pink, bows, lace, romance books and all—and I loved that she never toned herself down to fit someone else’s expectations.

"And because if they knew you, they wouldn't be trying to change you, Ava. You're perfect the way you are."

I also liked how she used her role as Miss Americana to spotlight women-owned businesses, encourage girls to bet on themselves, and emphasize the importance of self-defense.

╰┈➤ Jaime

Jaime didn't make the best first impression either, considering how quickly he judged Ava before he even got to know her.

But as those assumptions fell away, we got to see the ridiculously sweet man he really was.

This man was trying SO hard to stay professional while being completely gone for Ava. The blushing whenever he did something sweet for her?? 🥹 I ate it up.

He noticed everything—remembering her little preferences, making sure she was comfortable, and taking care of her in the quietest ways. The dairy-free ice cream, the passenger seat he set up for her, the way he indulged her love of books… it was all so thoughtful.

And once Jaime finally stopped fighting his feelings? He was ALL IN. 🤭

"You said you love the idea of falling in love. I don't, Ava. I love being in love with you, and I love the idea of you getting your happily ever after every damn day.”

Also… that mouth. 🫠

🌸 Final Take

This was such a cute, spicy, feel-good romance.

And that epilogue?? 🥹 It completely got me. It tied everything together so sweetly and left me with the warmest feeling.

i know some people might find ava annoying because she was a bit over the top and persuasive sometimes but you know what? i love her just the way she is 🩷

and jamie?🫦 my man was so down bad. he resisted to her charms for like two seconds and then he showed how pathetic he is for her🤭 he would blush when he did something nice for her which was a lot because he was on his knees to be useful for her and i live for those blushes🥹

Morgan Elizabeth is seriously becoming one of my favorite romance authors!! 🩷

This was so so cute! Ava was such a relatable character and I loved Jamie! I actually read this series out of order (book 2, book 3, and then book 1), so I loved seeing bits and pieces of the other characters in this one too. I never knew I needed a bodyguard romance but now I need to read more 🤭

↪ plot:

After Ava wins the Miss Americana beauty pageant when she only signed up to boost her best friends' businesses, she doesn't expect all the rules and restrictions that'll be set on her for the next three months she'll be on a press tour, or that she'll be assigned a bodyguard to keep her from breaking said rules. Jaime's used to a certain type of client, nothing like Ava and her bubbly and flirty personality, and his job will only get harder once he realizes how much she loves getting under his skin, and how much he can't seem to resist her.

↪ thoughts:

Stop. This was sooo cute, and I'm so in love with Ava. She's the perfect girly and sunshine FMC with a heart of gold but that doesn't let anyone push her down. She's all pink clothes, bows on her hair, romance books, lace, and flowy skirts, and lots of love for being "just like other girls"; I love her 🫂. Ava reminds me a lot of the FMC of 'Tis the season for revenge' (my favorite Morgan Elizabeth book), she's like a younger version of her and I'm sure that's why I loved her. I love a girl that's unapologetically herself, and she's so proud of being who she is.

“I think if I could make a career of it, I’d be CEO of Making Jaime Wilde Blush.”

Jaime was such a sweetheart too and so obsessed with Ava from the beginning. He was constantly paying so much attention to her and catering to all her needs, like setting up the passenger seat with all her favorite knickknacks and encouraging her anytime she started doubting herself. He would also listen to her talk about her romance books, buy her the ones he noticed she hadn't read yet, and take her on shopping sprees so she could get all the romance books he could carry (a dream, truly 🥹). He tries to hide all this caring for her with his grumpy persona but since he's constantly flustered and blushing whenever she flirts with him, he doesn't succeed at all

“He's taken to doing this, hanging out in the bathroom while I get ready, and each time, it makes my belly flip. He'll sit in close quarters watching me do something silly he has no interest in just because he wants to spend time with me or because it makes me happy.”

So why not a higher rating? Well, Ava and Jaime were very endearing and playful together, and even though they had some corny lines here and there, I could've overlooked them if it wasn't for their terrible sex scenes. I'm sorry, but I would just skim through them and wait for them to be over because the narration during those and the horrible dirty talk had me physically cringing. Another thing that took me a little bit out was the whole suspense aspect because its conclusion felt very cartoonish; I don't know, I was waiting a little bit more.

This book is pure and utter joy! Good heavens it's been awhile since I read such a delicious, sweet and incredibly funny book. I was grinning throughout the entire book. Ava and Jaime stole my heart and I was rooting for them throughout the entire story. 

The book starts with Ava winning Miss Americana. She entered on a whim to help and support her best friends, Jules and Harper's, businesses. Because Ava is a pure light she won over the hearts of all Americans and won the competition. She is endlessly positive, hopeful and inspiring. She chose to support small woman businesses and on her Miss Americana tour she will visit businesses in all the states. 

Regina, the one who helps organize the competition, and Anne, a competitor, hate her guts. Regina hates her free spirit and constantly threatens to take her crown away. Same goes for Anne. She is vilely jealous that she didn't win and is degrading Ava anywhere she can. 

That night Ava is celebrating her crown with her friends when she spots Stella. One of her girl's boyfriends is a nasty piece of work who refused to come that night. He is a huge Atlas Oaks fan. And when they spot the band Ava wants to get a picture with them to make the boyfriend jealous. Ava knows Stella, the wife of Riggins, the lead singer. But their huge, wide and muscly bodyguard doesn't let her in the VIP area. But Ava isn't easily deterred. She and the bodyguard instantly start to banter and flirt. And gosh I was so ready for that. I was grinning from ear to ear! They were so darn cute together. Eventually Stella notices her and they are allowed into the VIP area and secure the much wanted photo. 

Ava also is getting nasty messages and has been threatened several times. So the competition arranges a bodyguard for her. And that bodyguar is Jaime, the bodyguard of Atlas Oakes. Before they meet they don't know who the other person is. So when they realize they have to spend three months together the fun begins.Ava is grinning like an idiot, she is a huge flirt and Jaime is growling painfully. 

I just love this story so, so much! Ava is free spirited, fun, outgoing and I love who she pushes and pokes Jaime. Jaime is desperately trying to stay focused and professional. But ever since he checked her bum out the night the met he kinda lost that battle. 
Their banter, flirting and attentiveness is so infectious. I was on cloud nine the entire time with them.
And I adore Jaime's blushes throughout the story. It doesn't diminish his masculinity. He is just so sweet and kind and takes care of her every need. 

And when Peaches the tiny kitten enters the story I melted even more. Peaches and Jaime were just ... sigh. I don't have the words. They are the cutest thing I read about this year! 

I also adore the phone calls Ava had with her friends. And how Jaime's closest people instantly see how head over heels he is before he even admits it to himself. 

I absolutely love all the positive messages in this book towards women and femininity. We are more than our looks. It's okay to stand up for yourself and defend yourself. I love how Ava breaks barriers and empowers the children she meets in this book.

This book is an absolute beast of joy and I love it from start to finish! 5 huge stars from me for this wonderful book!

STOP THIS WAS SO FREAKING GOOD. I am a sucker for a grumpy bodyguard / "we can't do this because I have to protect you" trope.

Ava + Jaime are perfect. Legit perfect. First off, Ava has SUCH GOOD VIBES. I loved her energy. She was super girly and wears bows and pink dresses but she's also bold and stands up for what she believes in. I love how she was with Jaime and how she teases him the entire time, I was legit laughing so hard at some of the things that she said. Like, PEACHES THE CAT.. are you kidding me? 🤣🤣🤣 And then Jaime learning how to make a pink flower for Ava's game. I'm done. That's it.

Jaime is legit the perfect amount of grumpy but possessive and I love him. And the mouth on this man, oh... my... god.

I swear Morgan Elizabeth does no wrong and if you're looking for a quick fun romcom with the perfect amount of spice, this is it!

Hmmm, I have to be honest and say that I only enjoyed the first 60% when there was obvious tension and chemistry between them. And the push-pull game was so hilarious, moreso Jaime for trying to fight it off. But when they finally gave in to the attraction, idk, I felt slowly losing interest and didn't care much for the remaining parts of the story. 🫣

Anyway, brief background: Ava (26) wanted to help her two best friends promote their businesses, and they think using an influencer would pave the way for that. But they didn't know anyone, and they thought it would cost them a lot. So when she saw an ad for a beauty pageant, she didn't hesitate to join, and luckily for her, she won on her first attempt. She was finally able to help her friends' businesses, and this has become her platform while traveling all through different states as the reigning beauty queen: to help promote SMEs. While it's a good thing she won, the first runner-up and the head organizer didn't like her, or even the fact that she won the crown. They're bitter about it and hellbent on making her forfeit the title. There were so many rules to uphold as Miss Americana, but the most ridiculous, I think, is not being able to date for three months while she's on tour. Therein enters Jaime (35), her assigned bodyguard, who was instructed to keep Ava in line all the time. Well, with forced proximity, tension, and attraction, I guess readers know how this will go. 🙃

Like I said at the start, I did have fun with the first half when they're doing the push and pull game. Ava was so ridiculous; I love her sunshine-y personality and how she always pushed Jaime's buttons in the most comical ways. Jaime, on the other hand, was a grumpy judgmental prick in the beginning, but that slowly changed when he realized and saw that Ava's a good person and not the entitled beauty queen that he assumed her to be. He did a lot of swoony and sweet things to make up for judging her without reason. And lucky for him, she didn't take seriously all the bad assumptions that he had about her. 🤷‍♀️

While he's a softie for her, Jaime was indecisive as heck because he wanted to protect her, but she's also his number one distraction. So there were times where he would give in to the chemistry between them but would back off the next, and this frustrated Ava a lot. So when they went to a bar, she had enough of his pulling away and asked him what he really wanted, and instead of answering, Jaime walked away without saying a word, when in reality he just needed air to think. And when he got back inside, he saw her talking and smiling with a guy, and this solidified his decision to finally admit that he liked her and wanted to be with her. And by this point, idk, I already lost interest in them. 🫣 I think I was only living for their banter, but when they finally got on the same page, the banter became little to none.

Also, I had it already on my mind who's responsible for the threats that Ava is receiving, so the revelation was kind of anticlimactic for me. Then the ending felt like it came out of nowhere. Idk, she decided to start a business teaching self-defense, which she herself isn't good at. I love the idea, but it's not her, at least not like two months ago. She only enjoyed the concept of self-defense when Jaime was with her, and all of a sudden she wanted to be an instructor. Idk, it just felt out of left field. 🤷‍♀️

Anyhoo, for the most part, I had fun with it; that's why I rounded up this to 4 stars. The banter was so entertaining, but I think it was Ava who carried the book for me. Don't get me wrong, Jaime was a good character too, and I enjoyed the things he did to show how he felt sorry for being a judgmental doofus. They were cute as a couple, but Ava made this story more fun (at least for me). Also, it's me being greedy with the epilogue, but I didn't like that it has a HFN where he proposed to her. Ngl, although it was really sweet and swoony, I still need something more than that, like, years later type. 😅 

Setting aside my issues, I still think this is a good light read with cute MCs. 🤭

you know when you find a book that makes you go, yep, THIS is why i’m a reader? who would’ve thought i’d stumble upon one of my all time favourite books in a 24hr readathon 🫶🏼. this is quite literally, the most perfect romcom that i have ever read. it took me two days to process it and write a review because i just couldn’t put my feelings into words.

this is a bodyguard and a beauty pageant queen on the victory tour of a lifetime together. i laughed, squealed, cried and carried on like a child from start to finish. i fell in love not only with these characters, but with morgan’s writing immediately. needless to say, i’m obsessed, and i need one in every colour 🥰. i’ve started a deep dive into all her other works ✨.

5⭐️ and 3🌶️. forever obsessed with ava and jaime 🥹🫶🏼. enjoy my thoughts while reading:

🎧 the audiobook is 5/5 stars. my favorite narration style is duet and both narrators did a great job. i definitely recommend reading with audio!!!

♡♡I really like ava!! she is a fmc i would be friends with in real life. she is genuinely a good, kind person. she loves animals and rescues a cat. she's not afraid to speak her mind and she loves everything pink and girly. she made me laugh too. she was always giving jaimie a hard time and I loved that lol.

♡♡jaime is our grumpy bodyguard. but he's also equally sweet + thoughtful behind closed door. there were so many little things he did that had me squealing. one of my favorite moments: when he finds out she's lactose intolerant and misses eating ice-cream, he immediately goes to the store and surprises her with a bunch of dairy-free ice cream .

♡the romance was definitely insta but they had good relationship development + i was rooting for jaime to finally accept his feelings. and when he did!!!!! their chemistry was on fire. i love them together.

the only thing i didn't like was the drama; it feels unnecessary and over the top.

I was genuinely excited for this one after reading the blurb. Bodyguard? Grumpy/sunshine? Hate-to-love banter? That’s basically my comfort trope lineup. It sounded like such an easy win.

But nope. It somehow turned into one of those books. You know the type.. dramatic for no reason, forced banter, chemistry that’s supposed to be there but just… isn’t. The kind I usually end up side-eyeing the whole time.

I really thought this would be different. Silly me. What a shock. 🙃

finished in under 12 hours, this book was addicting and an absolute delight! one of my favorite rom coms I think… ever?!? 💕✨ let me break it down for you:

- a nine year age gap that isn’t mentioned much, but who doesn’t love a mature man?! (26/35)

- PROTECTION PROTECTION PROTECTION (her safety is his #1 priority {he’s her bodyguard duh}, but it’s so much more than that)

- a great, well thought out ending, no third act break up, a grumpy x sunshine relationship with lots of banter, a road trip across the country for the summer, AND SO MUCH MORE ✨💕📖

I really wanted to like this , but my biggest issue here is the writing 😬 this just felt like reading one of those Reddit stories🤧.

What I liked:
- He was such a cutie!!
- He’s definitely an acts of service kinda guy. I ate it UP 🤭
- Her books are always a nice pallet cleanser, with minimal drama, and no third-act breakups.
- The epilogue 🥹🫶🏻

What I didn’t like:
- How rude he was to her in the beginning. He kept saying he knew her type (in a bad way). Then all that changed obviously and he apologized.
- I wish there was more background information on them.
- There were a lot of grammatical errors, and it could have used another look over.


I definitely recommend it to anybody in a reading slump or looking for a light and cute read 💗
