An unsuspecting heiress with a target on her back must enlist the protection of a vampire whose wealth and secrets rival her own, in a brand new paranormal romance series from New York Times bestselling author Elena Armas.
Valle Cepeda's life changes drastically over the course of a winter break, when she goes from being an Ivy League scholarship student one day to inheriting a fortune from the mother she’s never met by the next. The fate of Alma, a coveted fashion empire, is now in Val's hands.
Hadrian Cruz presents himself as a calculating, self-serving player in the game of who takes over Alma, but that isn't his true aim. A blood debt that chains him to a hundred-year-old wound is finally being collected, and it involves Val.
Furious at everyone who would try to manipulate her, Val returns to Icarus University, only to see her world has changed shape dramatically and Hadrian is now at the center of it. She doesn’t trust him, but there are things only Hadrian can provide: protection, and the way to satiate a longing she craves more than fears.
Plagued by nightmares, can Val decipher the secrets of her legacy? And can she accept that what she feels for Hadrian runs deeper than attraction? Answers always come at a cost, and these could shatter her heart… Or bind her soul to the monster she desires the most.
Elena is a Spanish writer, a self confessed hopeless romantic and a proud book hoarder. Now, she's also the author of International bestseller and soon to be adapted to film The Spanish Love Deception; and instant New York Times bestsellers The American Roommate Experiment and The Long Game. Her books are being translated to over 30 languages–which is bananas, if you ask her.
She hopes her stories make your heart skip a beat or two, your palms a little sweaty, and your cheeks flush in that rosy pink that makes other people want to peek at the page you are reading.
thank you so much to netgalley for providing this arc!!
unfortunately, i am going to have to DNF this one. i have absolutely adored elena armas' books in the past (the american roommate experiment being one of my all time faves), but this one wasn't working for me sadly. i feel that the writing was very choppy, and i was finding myself confused over would should be a straightforward plot. i admit i didn't read quite far enough into this one to really see the romance come to light, so i can't comment on that, but i did like the mmc from what i saw of him. i do think the premise is an interesting one, but i was finding myself struggling to concentrate and connect whilst reading.
I did not love this one as much as I thought I would.
I'm always equal parts wary and excited when a beloved author branches out and tries a new genre. So, I was very sad when the paranormal elements fell flat for me. However, Elena Armas's skill in writing romantic relationships really shined here.
You could practically feel the yearning leaping out of the pages. Hadrian definitely went to Icarus University to get his degree in pining. But honestly what stood out to me more, was the yearning that we got from Valle. That mutual pining was the definitely the reason I loved their relationship so much.
But in the end, the romance could only entertain me so much when I was expecting an equally captivating paranormal plot. The world building that we got was excellent, but I needed so much *more* of it. I would have loved for everything to be more fleshed out and vivid. These paranormal elements fell so flat that, in my opinion, the story would not have suffered much if they had been left out entirely.
In addition to the lackluster paranormal plot, the plot where Valle inherits the fashion brand ALMA, was also not as lush as I would have hoped. I would have loved to see the pressure that she faced from the fashion world after inheriting a brand she knew nothing about. Or see how the brand is crumbling in her hands or see the pressure of people asking for her opinion on a new clothing collection. We get none of that. Instead she goes back to Icarus University and is the center of petty gossip. I genuinely think this book had the potential to be SO good. :( But alas, the romance was basically the only thing I could truly enjoy.
2.5 stars. (rounded up)
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley for the arc. All thought are my own.
Recieved an e-arc from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
4.5
Guys I REALLY liked this. I literally ran to preorder a signed copy from the ripped bodice.
I was so pleasantly surprised at Alma Vampires, and I have to say it: Elena Armas knows how to write a paranormal romance.
I LOVE vampires, so I knew I had to read this. I was so happy to have gotten the arc, this was on my most anticipated reads of the year and it genuinely did not disappoint. The beginning really throws us in the world, and with Valle. She seems so smart and headstrong, she’s had to basically raise herself as an orphan, then all of a sudden is meant to have this connection with the dead mom who abandoned her. Being in her head was so interesting, because we see all the ways she reacts to the grief, abandonment, and pain she feels. But above all, she’s kind, and sees the best in people.
Hadrian is an interesting character, and he plays that quintessential vampire. He reminds me a lot of Damon from the Vampire Diaries, where’s he brooding and Valle can’t really tell if he’s a good guy or a bad guy. He’s very mysterious, a lil mean in a hot way, but I really loved him.
The two of them are sooooooo magnetic, they have amazing chemistry. It’s a little insta lusty, but hey, it’s a paranormal romance. The magic and world building is also a little confusing at times, but a lot of thought was put into the magic and the plot concerning it. I also really wished we got to see more of the company aspect, as I think that was kinda abandoned. Im not sure the plot would have changed much is Valle wasn’t the heiress to a fashion empire.
I’m so excited for the sequel, and I really hope we see more of Valle and Hadrian!!
I'm extremely conflicted about this book and need sometime to gather my thoughts. But as always thanks to Berkley Publishing for the digital copy. #BerkleyPartner
I genuinely don’t think words are capable of explaining just how much I adored Alma Vampires by Elena Armas.
From the very first page, this book had me completely and utterly captivated. Every spare second I had was spent reaching for it because I needed to know what happened next. And now that I’ve finished? I already miss it. The world, the characters, the tension… all of it. I honestly think this has become one of my favourite books not only of the year, but of my entire life.
Hadrian and Val…
These two have taken permanent residence in my heart and, quite frankly, they can stay there forever. The chemistry between them is absolutely electric. Every conversation, every look, every tiny moment was dripping with yearning and anticipation. Elena somehow manages to make the smallest interactions feel monumental, and I found myself kicking my feet, smiling like an idiot and desperately turning pages just to spend more time with them.
This wasn’t paranormal for the sake of being paranormal, it felt rich, immersive and beautifully woven into the story. The blood debts, the history, the mystery surrounding the vampire world, the college setting, the secrets… everything blended together so seamlessly that I never wanted to leave.
Hadrian is everything I want in a male main character. Protective without being overbearing, powerful, patient, intelligent and absolutely devoted in ways that made my heart ache. And Val is such a wonderful heroine to experience this story through. Watching her navigate this new world while trying to understand her place within it made every revelation hit even harder.
I still don’t know what I did to deserve receiving an ARC of this book, but I will be grateful forever because getting to experience this story before release has been such a privilege.
Elena Armas… What on earth have you put into this book? I have loved every single second. The yearning. The passion. The tension. The Romance. The Mystery. The Vampires.
Every chapter reminded me exactly why I fell in love with reading in the first place !!!!!!
Luna Wolves cannot come soon enough.
I genuinely cannot wait for everyone else to finally experience Alma Vampires because I need the entire internet to become as obsessed as I am.
Elena, you’ve created something incredibly special.
Say it with me: if Elena Armas writes it, I will read it. OH BOY I LOVED THIS PARANORMAL DEBUT HONEY!!! Hadrian: big daddy softy baby boy with a hard past and future with Valle directly at the center. This man is a CERTIFIED YEARNER FOLKS! Valle: heart-hardened living for herself sweet honey muffin. My love letter to Alma Vampires, From the Dedication to the Author Acknowledgments, EVERY part of Alma Vampires is embedded into my SOUL. & I could’ve stayed here- BEYOND the almost 500 pages, in this BEAUTIFUL & DARK fictional world created by Elena Armas. Why? I COULDN’T walk away, even when I NEEDED to. When I had to adult, all I WANTED was to step back into those pages. Because something about THIS book is truly MAGICAL. & I just KNOW that I’ll continue to think about the world of Icarus, of Valle & Hadrian, of the MYSTERIES, the SORROW, the DARKNESS & the LOVE, for fxckn EVER.
The way that Elena Armas made me truly FEEL like I was there during battle, the ACHE that set in my heart when things would go wrong, the SPEEDING of my heart when those steamy scenes came up, the LITERAL screams of JOY, I would let out during those amazing, fxckn ✨TOP TIER✨ romantic moments. ALL of it was intense- beautiful- poetry! PURE, motherfxckn poetry!!!

I cannot wait for Book 2 already, I just KNOW it’s going to CAPTURE my heart just like Alma Vampires did.
Thank you to Elena Armas & team for this ARC. & as always, all opinions and thoughts are my own.
I want to start this review by saying that Elena Armas holds a special place in my heart, she is one of those authors who made me finally jump into reading romance but also reading English books (I’m French). So I want to thank her for being an important part of my life as a reader, and also thank to her team who let me be part of the Icarus Angels team! I was so excited and I’m so happy I got the e-arc of Alma Vampires. I’ve also been following Elena Armas for a long time and I know that this book idea has been on for so long. I was really excited to read it. Even if I’ve only read two books by her before, I truly trusted her with this paranormal romance. I was not ounce scared to be disappointed, I was just super excited. And what a breath of fresh air to finish it and realise I was so right. Like, billionaire romance meets college romance meet paranormal vampires romance? I was sold and it was AMAZING. The only thing that frustrated me with Valle was trying to pronounce her name (I know, the pronunciation was written but it always took me a second try to have it). It doesn’t change the way I loved her. She got a new life hitting her and we follow her from there. She just wanted to know who she was. And like her, for a long time I didn’t know who we should trust (and I also fell for Hadrian at the same time as I didn’t trust him, whoops).
Just like I said it just above, I didn’t trust Hadrian but fell for him very fast. We rarely get his point of view, but dear Lord, each time we did? I just loved it so much. The kind of immortal guy who’s not able to fall in love? He still believes it when he already fell? I mean, this guy was incredible. He might be one of those MMC you add to your book boyfriends list, just saying.
And what can I say? I also loved Kiki and Baz from the first lines we go them. I just loved Kiki’s relationship growth with Valle and the brotherhood between Baz and Hadrian. It’s clear they love their friends a lot. In addition to this, Baz is like super funny. He made me laugh so much. There were so many side characters that made me feel so much. It was all, incredible.
The story? The plot twists? Oh. My. God. Everything was so perfect. Armas made something incredible with the fantasy part of this book. The species, the stories. The secrets? Oh dang. Really. I don’t think I can really explain it, but it was really incredible work. For the entire second half of the book I went through so many emotions, I cried, laughed, gasped, kicked my feet in cuteness. I was feeling weird for one of the smut scenes but it ended up being like… important? Genius. Anyway, I could spend days explaining why this book was so good, why people should read it.
This is the first book of the series and I already need the second one. I swear, I’m not overreacting, it was really good. I really loved Alma Vampires, and I can’t wait to go back to the Icarus University.
A literal masterpiece with the perfect blend of tension, yearning, secrets, spice, and paranormal goodness🥀✨
Alma Vampires is my new favorite Elena book and I cannot believe I’m saying this, but I think Hadrian has dethroned the one and only Aaron Blackford for me😭 No one writes yearning men like Elena, but Hadrian was on a whole other level😩😩😩 this man gave the term “down bad” a whole new meaning like this vampire was OBSESSED🥵 I was genuinely kicking my feet and giggling every time this man opened his mouth, like it’s truly that serious, I NEED HIM BAD😩 the chemistry and banter was GOD TIERRRR🥵 And don’t even get me started on Valle, I am actually obsessed with her. Even though I have not experienced exactly what she has, Elena made her so easy to relate to and I saw pieces of myself in her. I just wanted to hug her constantly and I loved seeing her grow into this strong, unapologetic version of herself as the story goes on🥹 And Hadrian and Valle together? ✨soulmates✨ Genuinely there’s no other word for the way these two love each other, they made me feel every single emotions and I just love them so much😭
Now for the plot, because my god I was so invested and it was just so well done! It complemented the romance so well without one overshadowing the other, and my jaw is still on the FLOOR from some of the twists. And the way Elena set the scene and the places she takes us to were just so fun, I truly felt like I was discovering all of the secrets with them. It’s gothic and mysterious and just the perfect spooky season read🤭
And I would be failing you if I didn’t share that I genuinely think this is Elena’s best spice yet🥵 I will be thinking about some of the things this man said and did on my deathbed, like “altered my brain chemistry” doesn’t even come close to what this man did to me😩 I had to go touch grass after some of these scenes I was so unwell. All I’ll say is Hadrian is the best of both worlds because he loves to beg but he also loves to command🙂↕️ and I’ll never look at art galleries the same again🤤
If you couldn’t tell, this book exceeded every single one of my insanely high expectations and as soon as I finished it, I wanted to go straight back to page one because ✨IT WAS THAT GOOD✨ I fell in love with these characters from the minute we met them and they just kept getting better and better the more I read🥹 i genuinely could not have asked for anything more, THIS IS WHAT MY ROMANCE BOOK DREAMS ARE MADE OF😭
Thank you Elena and Berkley Romance for allowing me to read an early copy! I can’t wait till this book is in everyone’s hands 🤭🥀🤍✨
This book reignited my love for vampire romances! When I say I was obsessed with Hadrian and Valle, I mean I started this book and finished it within 24hrs. My soul was consumed by them.
“Vampires don’t bow to anyone.” “Except for you, Valle. I’ve been bowing to you since I first saw you.”
The mystery was really refreshing and I loved how everything played out. I was left guessing and puzzling out the clues right along with the leads.
“You hold all the power, Valle.” His voice lowers to a soft murmur. “You always did.”
Hadrian was an absolute blood - sucking - dreamboat! This man LONGED for her even before he could comprehend the word ‘love’. I couldn’t have loved this man more. I mean, he literally checks both the ‘hot professor’ box AND the “he drives a motorcycle’ box! ❤️🔥🤭
“She doesn’t just feel like the sun when I can feel her warmth and life coursing through me. When I have her coursing through me, burning me from the inside. She feels like my reckoning and my saving grace all at once.”
Valle was a great FMC, she is so used to living off of crumbs of happiness. She grew up in foster care until a kind family took her in, but even that was over too soon. My heart broke for her and I was rooting for her to finally find her ‘home’.
“Unleash a monster,” Hadrian says in a strange whisper. “And get yourself chased.”
This was a SLOW burn but it felt perfect for Hadrian and Val’s story. (When the spice did enter the scene, it was BOILING IN PASSION!) 🥵🔥
“You got something wrong. I don’t just need you. You are my sun. You’re at the center of my godforsaken universe. You want to save me? Burn me instead, Valle. Burn me until I drop from the sky. Until there’s nothing left of me.“
I am so curious about this world Elena has created and I can’t wait to get more in the next book! (I’m not going to spoil who it’s about, but you’ll find out at the end of this one!) 🫶🏼💖
If you are ready to enter your vampire phase again, you have to read Alma Vampires!
Tropes: 📚 College Romance ❤️🔥 Longing, Yearning, & Pining ✨ Vampires, Shifters & Magic 💰 Billionaires 👀 Secrets & Lies 🩸 Blood Debt 🐺 Monster On The Loose
I was hooked from page one! This is such an awesome, fresh spin on the college, billionaire, and vampire tropes. It delivers on every single thing you could want in a paranormal romance, it’s fast paced, electric, and impossible to put down. Easily a 5 star read! 🔥
Raised in foster care and knowing what it means to struggle, Valle never expected to inherit a vast estate from a mother she never knew. But stepping into her mother’s legacy means entering a dangerous hidden world, one where strange things happens that she doesn’t understand, she is thrust into danger without explanation, threats lurk in every shadow. Valle must navigate a world of dark secrets with a lethal protector who would do anything to keep her safe.
Enter Hadrian, Dangerous, enigmatic and the man she was warned about, the man that is obsessed with Valle from the moment he sees her, he makes her heart beat faster. He turns up anywhere, even becoming a professor at her college. He’s not what he seems ,and neither of them understand the irresistible pull drawing them together. He is completely driven by his all consuming need to protect her.
“You . . . asked me to stop fighting you.” It takes him a moment to speak. “I needed to hold you,” he tells me
The chemistry and the tension is utter perfection, this is how slow burn should be done! If you love action-packed paranormal romance with an insanely protective morally grey hero, put this on your TBR immediately
* Obsessed vampire Protector * 🎓 Forced Proximity (Professor x Student dynamic) * 🔥 Top-Tier Slow Burn & Electric Chemistry * 🏰 Hidden Heir / poisoned legacy * Billionaire * College romance * Top level Pining
Thank you so much to Edelweiss and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!
I’m calling it right now; this book is for the girlies who had to get their hands on every single paranormal vampire romance they could in the 2010s be it books, tv shows, or movies. The nostalgia I felt while reading this book! It seems 2026 is the year for a paranormal romance resurgence because I swear I’m seeing them published left and right and I am here for it.
Alma Vampires not only has the most beautiful, slow burn, yearning filled, and angsty romance with a mysterious possibly morally grey stranger who isn’t exactly human, but it also has everything an incredible paranormal romance needs beyond that which is many dangerous secrets, magic galore, and a prophecy and family history that need unraveling. It is definitely a roller coaster of a ride.
However, this one is also a slow burn plot wise at the beginning and my only point of contention is that while not a lot was happening at first when something did happen it was confusing. If I’m being honest, it felt messy before it finally all started coming together. Did this deter me though? No it didn’t. I adore Elena’s characters and I was invested. Plus, when the plot really got going it was so good!
Also, I just really loved Valle and Hadrian. I’ll think about them forever. I need novellas!
I won’t say much else since this review is really early, but just know if you enjoy paranormal romances you’ll love this. I for one will be waiting with bated breath for the second book.
A vampire who yearns and is bound to protect the woman who just found out she's the heiress to a fashion empire????? SOLD. GIVE IT TO ME. WHERE DO I SIGN MY SOUL AWAY?
Thank you, Berkley, for providing the e-arc on Edelweiss for booksellers. Alma Vampires releases on November 17th!!!!!!
Elena has been one of my auto-read/buy authors since I first read The Spanish Love Deception back in 2022. Her writing is one I don't think I can ever get over. Alma Vampires is Elena's first book in a non-Contemporary setting. It is a Dark Academia Paranormal Vampire Romance that had me hooked from the moment she announced her deal with Berkley.
In all of Elena's work she includes angst, yearning, and so much tension that one struggles to think of anything but the characters. I have never cried and felt so DEEPLY the way I have with Hadrian and Valle's love. Their continuous devotion to one another is one I will cherish forever.
I am so sad that I can't say much more so I avoid spoiling anything until at least closer to release date!
But I leave you with the knowledge that I ended up with 404 highlights in a 384-page book. And I left a changed woman after meeting Hadrian-obsessed with Valle, kneels for her, begs for her, wears rings, has an earring, constantly says the most nauseating obsessive things-Cruz, the new love of my life!
Full review to come closer to release date on November 17th! <3
Alma Vampires, Elena Armas’s latest book, had everything I could ever want in a romance and fantasy book and then more! The dynamic between Valle and Hadrian is incredible and powerful and electric all at once. I adored the character of Valle and her own journey through discovering her familial identity as well as her current status in the world, and the absolute crush I immediately developed on Hadrian was the perfect addition.
From the moment this book begins, I was hooked on the story as well as the romantic arc between Valle and Hadrian. Alma Vampires combines the romance and the fantasy aspects of this book perfectly to create incredible tension and suspense on both levels. I’m completely obsessed with the characters and this world and and I consider myself unbelievably lucky to have read and enjoyed this book early!!!
The way that Elena Armas reveals details about Valle’s history and the word of Alma Vampires at large is brilliantly done. The twists and turns throughout this book had me completely invested and unable to put it down. I need more of Valle and Hadrian and their friends and enemies alike ASAP!!!!!
Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for the opportunity to read and review this book! I received a free advance copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
For fans of: College romance Vampires & paranormal romance Longing, yearning & pining Billionaire MMC Secrets & lies Slow burn Touch her and die
I don’t even know how to put into words how much I loved this book. The second Elena announced she was writing a paranormal romance, I knew I needed it and somehow it still blew away all my expectations. This is hands down my favorite Elena Armas book.
Hadrian… where do I even begin? This man is completely, unapologetically obsessed with Valle, and I loved every second of it. The yearning, the tension, the banter… it was EVERYTHING. Elena really knows how to write a man who falls hard, and Hadrian had me kicking my feet the entire book.
I also adored Valle. She was so easy to root for, and I loved watching her grow into a stronger, more confident version of herself. Together, their chemistry was unreal, but what really sold me was how much they genuinely cared for each other.
The romance and the fantasy balanced each other perfectly, and I never wanted to stop reading. I usually read books pretty fast but I kept delaying this one because I didn’t want it to end.
Thanks to Elena and Berkley for providing me with an ARC obtained via NetGalley.
i have to find words to express how good this was. if elena writes it i will always read it. if elena has zero fans then i am deceased bc she never misses and i will always scream it from the rooftops.
i don’t even know where to begin. just when i thought elena couldn’t get any better, she wrote this masterpiece. i was on the edge of my seat from the first page. there were so many twists and turns, but just enough softer moments in between to leave me emotionally raw.
there were heavy layers with both the main and side characters and it helped keep the pacing of the story up. you felt like you were constantly learning along with them, trying to piece together what would happen next. each new bit of information was well balanced and intriguing until the very end.
i think valle and hadrian might be my new favorite couple in the elena armas cinematic universe……and that’s coming from lina and aaron’s #1 fan. this book was honestly the whole package. i cried, i mourned, i swooned. i can’t wait for the next one.
thank you to elena and your team for an early copy of this book!! these honest thoughts and opinions are my own!
