I’m thrilled to be among the first pre-release readers / reviewers for my dear friend Bethany!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was encouraging, joyful, thought-provoking, and practical. It was easy to read and relate to all the stories about the Lord’s provision and faithfulness in the life of Bethany and her family— I really appreciated the authenticity and vulnerability. It felt like a cozy fireside chat complete with hot cocoa.

My theological takeaways:

• Why do I so often believe the lie that it all depends on me? Such a reminder to be dependent on my good Father.
• Checking all the boxes” in Christianity is not a way to ensure that life goes perfectly, and money is not a reward for godly living. His mercies to us can (and often do) look like hardship and struggle, in which we learn to trust Him and His providence and provision.
• I want to be courageous to say a wholehearted “yes” to whatever the Lord calls me to, through His strength and not my own as I abide in Him (John 15).

My financial takeaways:

• Bucket budgeting! My team also recommends this method for our clients, and it is among the most straightforward and effective ways to budget.
• Bunching giving— a way to combine several years of giving into one year to exceed the standard deduction and thus itemize and get a larger deduction that year.
• Spontaneous giving bucket— such a great way to be empathetic and attuned to the needs around you (James 2:14-17).

Would definitely recommend to other ladies if you want practical theology and encouragement about your finances.

3.5 stars, rounded up.

Bethany Frymire is a financial advisor, and she wrote this book to empower Christian women to understand and take ownership of their personal finances. She reflects on reasons why many women feel overwhelmed or incapable when it comes to managing money, and she encourages these readers to take heart that in spite of social scripts and negative messages about women and money, they are capable of stewarding their resources with wisdom, clarity, and confidence. She shares personal stories about her own growth in this area, particularly with pursuing a career advancement in financial planning, and she shares practical advice about multiple different financial topics.

Women who feel intimidated by personal finance conversations will appreciate Frymire's compassionate, empowering advice. Her conversational writing style makes this book feel like a chat with a friend, and she explains key concepts in a down-to-earth, understandable way. She regularly shares anecdotes about her work and her family life to help readers understand and apply important financial principles, and she weaves in Christian faith themes throughout. She also shares helpful perspectives without making assumptions about a reader's stage in life. Many books like this are explicitly targeted to married women with children in the home, and I appreciate this book speaking to a much broader demographic.

Although I value many things about this book, I found that I wasn't the right audience for it. I would have preferred more in-depth financial information, with less of the page count consumed by personal anecdotes and inspirational stories. Frymire offers practical advice about topics like budgeting, making investments, being generous, and instilling financial values in the next generation, but the majority of the book's focus is on vision-casting and empowerment. How much this book resonates with someone will depend on if they're mainly looking for emotional support and foundational principles, or if they are seeking more in-depth advice about money topics.

I received a free copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

In Women of Worth, Bethany Frymire gets to the heart of how we think about money. She’s down to earth, genuine, and refreshingly open about her own journey. The writing is engaging and at times even entertaining (how many finance books can say that?). While she offers sound, practical financial advice, the book goes much deeper, addressing identity, faith, and viewing money through the lens of stewardship over all aspects of life.

Reading the book feels like sitting down with a wise and fun friend over coffee or lunch. Bethany is especially relatable to busy moms juggling a hundred responsibilities and comes across not just as a financial expert, but rather a trusted friend who can help guide you along your journey with money. She doesn’t just talk the talk, she lives out the principles and illustrates them through stories from her own life.

Throughout the book, you get the strong impression that she knows God deeply and regularly seeks His guidance. Biblical wisdom is woven through the book in a beautiful tapestry that connects financial decisions with broader areas of life.

While the book is written primarily with women in mind, men can learn a great deal from the stories and practical financial guidance it contains not to mention gain insight into the women in their lives.

The stories of people Bethany has worked with bring the principles to life. She touches on issues such as overcoming debt and shame, bucket budgeting, incorporating your values into your investment strategy without sacrificing performance, charitable giving and how it shapes both your finances and your heart, maintaining a “God owns it all” mindset, and teaching children and young adults how to manage money wisely.

This book is a valuable resource filled with practical steps for anyone who wants to manage their finances with Biblical wisdom and a stewardship mindset. I highly recommend it!

With humility and humor, Bethany shares her heart for women to find confidence and competence in wisely stewarding financial resources at every stage of life and in varying circumstances. A good resource, encouragement, and exhortation for women of faith.
