Vouloir: French meaning ‘to want’.

Most of us want what we can’t have . . .

Former Commando, Jones, is used to getting what he wants and he never has to beg. Six feet four. Blond. Eyes of glacial blue. Ripped. Inked. Unmistakably alpha. Dangerously dominant.

Sexual therapist, La Veuve Noire, always gets what she wants but it’s seldom for her own gain. Her motivation is the wellbeing of her clients. She’s the best in the business, having learnt that keeping everyone in her life at an emotional distance is the key to success.

That is, until The Kid tumbles into her life and scrambles into her heart. The mysterious, damaged nineteen year old turns her ordered life upside down. She’s known as the Patron Saint of Waifs and Strays for a reason: she gives them hope, and with hope comes healing. She’s determined to turn The Kid’s dark past into a bright future.

The club, Vouloir, is her escape. There she can indulge her own and others’ particular needs. Complications arise in the form of a new member who reminds her of a past she strives to forget. A former Royal Marine. Blond hair. Blue eyes. Unmistakably dominant. Definitely dangerous. He’s locked and loaded. His sights are set: on her.

Some of us want what we shouldn’t have . . .

Short bio: UK based, bestselling Indie author of contemporary romance … otherwise known as elegantly filthy erotica. Shoeaholic. Introvert. Prude. Teetotaler. Compulsive Liar ... well, not about the shoes. I never lie about shoes!!

UK bestselling author of the Passion Noire, Rouge Passion and Orion the Hunter series. Not your average romance novelist ... but then, who wants to be average?

I love reading - almost as much as I love writing.. I relish the sheer escapism of losing myself in a book that grips me and takes me on an emotional roller coaster. I regularly mourn the passing of a good book - am I the only one who turns the pages more slowly when you don’t want a great book to end?

I love a good steamy romance and I adore sexy alpha males. I also have more than a passing interest in BDSM (nod, nod … wink, wink). One day, I put pen to paper (well fingers to keyboard, actually) and the Orion the Hunter series was born. Little did I know that, at that moment, I was sewing the seeds of change. For, just a few months later, as a somewhat bewildered Amazon Kindle bestselling Indie author, I quit my career as an education professional to write full time. Scary stuff, I think you’ll agree.

2013 was a very difficult year for me for personal reasons. It taught me how fragile life is and how important it is to grab it with both hands and ride the hell out of it. So in 2014, I began my comeback with the Amazon #1 Bestselling Erotica/Romantic Erotica bestselling series, Rouge Passion. I also met many of my favourite authors and so many lovely readers at my first signing event in Edinburgh. I flipped Stu Reardon’s kilt! Happy days …

I have big plans for 2015. I’m signing at several more author events around the UK and I’m pouring my heart and soul into what I consider my best series yet - by far! Cue Passion Noire, a three part series revolving around La Veuve Noire - a sexual therapist by day and a desirable Domme by night. But fear not, sexy alphas are still on the menu. I mean … this is me!

3.5 - She's a different kettle of vagina's. Stars!

Vouloir is not the first book I have read by J. D. Chase, however some time has passed since the Orion the Hunter series, and for me the development in the authors writing, plot and character building has improved no end. This is by no means meant as a derogatory assessment as I really enjoyed the novellas in the series that I read, but Vouloir is definitely, the 'after' to Orion the Hunter's 'before'.

I want to be clear that when I give a book a three star rating it means I enjoyed it, but for me there were issues, of which are outlined in my review.

There is a lot going on in this book, and that is the main issue I have with it, at points there are so many POV's coming into the story that it gets a little overwhelming, there is so much going on with each character on an individual basis, it starts to cloud the flow of the story as a whole. Some of what went on, now I have reached the end of the book, I am struggling to understand what it's actual relevance to the main theme of the story in it's entirety actually was.

You have POV's from -

- La Veuve Noire - The book is about her and what she does in work and at play. You discover that her character as the story progresses is as messed up in certain ways as the people she tries to help. The Sex Therapist/Domme lines are very, very blurred at points, and her justifications as to why she suddenly decides to rub one out, rub one off on someones face, or just get down to it with whomever is available are sketchy at best. Her internal justifications for these things thereafter also sometimes read as just that, someone trying to justify their actions, when they know they may not be in the best interests of all.

- Dean - Definitely pivotal to the story, but again all of the rubbish going on outside of what he is trying to learn about himself and his sexuality, was overblown I can see the relevance of its inclusion, but the volume included didn't really add much to the general progression of the story as a whole.

- Jones - Again a bloody good addition, his appearance and acceptance into Veuve and The Kid's life was all a bit too easily accepted for me, especially when we are dealing with characters that have massive trust issues which become more apparent as their backgrounds are revealed. We again spend a lot of time in this guy's head and too much irrelevant background bogged his POV into a mix that was already overflowing.

Also pivotal -

- The Kid - Deserves a book all of his own (which according to the Author's note at the end, he will get), the glimpses of this unusual young man through Veuve's story offer a glimpse into something much larger and deeper, the last couple of chapters pique the readers interest even more in this regard as well.

"We shouldn't tolerate differences. We should accept them. Embrace them. Fucking celebrate them."

This is a well thought out, impeccably plotted, original story. The subject matter at times may be a little to much for some readers... There were points when it erred close to my line, but one thing that you can immediately see in the writing is that J. D. Chase has taken great pains to research the subjects and issues included in great depth, and has written about them in an honest, realistic and unglamorized way.

I liked that, this isn't a story that denotes sequins and sparkle, it is the beginning of what I am expecting to be a dark, gritty, fictionally realistic account of a group of unique and like-able characters. As I said I liked this book, there were parts where I was fully immersed in it, but there are also parts that dragged, and for me personally could have been paired down or totally left out. This is the start of a series, so all of those things may gain more relevance as it progresses. I hope so, I would be happy to be proved wrong if that was the case.

That's the thing with playing with fire... You never know when some big, bad Domme is going to push you into the flames and watch you burn.

"Never give up hope. Even when hope is all you have."

I love the way I feel right now. The feeling of being caught off guard. This was totally not what I was expecting. I wasn't sure about reading this because I wasn't a big fan of the Rouge Passion series. Now that I'm done with the first book, I can't wait to start Falloir.

La Veuve Noire is my favorite sexual therapist and dominatrix. She's hard on the outside, but she's a softy in the inside. It looks like she only helps people that need help in satisfying their partners, but she is also passionate about helping children that are abused and confused about their sexuality.

This isn't your typical romance story. Veuve and Jones show signs of attraction, but their relationship is a long process. This book deals with some abuse and other deep issues. It has some scenes of bdsm, but not as much as I thought it was going to have. The only thing that bothered me a bit was Dean's POV. I thought some of it was unnecessary. But overall, it was a wonderful complex story that got better and better.

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall on behalf of Kindle Friends Forever.

This is the first novel in the Passion Noire Trilogy where we meet up with a few erstwhile characters from the author’s previous novels, The Player and The Redeemer. However, it should be pointed out that this new series is completely independent as the protagonists’ story is not only clearly told in first person, but also explicitly detailed so as not to cause any confusion.

What caught my attention was the author’s style of storytelling. If you are familiar with her work, you’ll know she’s an expert in one-liners. That Brit sense of humour she integrated in her characters abounded in the Rouge Passion series was too much! It’s still there though; just much much more toned down. She’s moved on. The dark side has beckoned and the result is tremendous. This is not an easy read at all. It made me squirm in places — made my nerves edgy. Despite the plot being a difficult one, I had no option but to sympathise with the leading lady, La Veuve Noir. "The Black Widow."

Quote: "But La Veuve Noire ... she's a different kettle of vaginas."

The definition of sexy is seductive, alluring, provocative, and desirable. This is Veuve. A temptress of the first degree by night; with her weaknesses when she’s working as a sex therapist by day. Throw in strong-minded for good measure and you've got one hell of woman! She melted my heart! An expert BDSM Dom in a club where she commands respect and gets it! Nothing is taken lightly, everything that happens in the club, Vouloir, is taken seriously.

Quote: "She's upfront, inappropriate, unabashed, shameless and many other adjectives besides."

Dean! My, oh, my! This adorable young man lacking in sexual prowess has a problem and a half. He put his foot in it! Well, actually, it wasn't his foot so please use your imagination! His wish to better his bedroom skills will take him on a self-discovering journey of revealing dimensions. What he wants with a capital W, and what he gets are two completely different things. However, Veuve susses him out quicker than the blink of an eye. Of course, a problem or two arise as he vies for her attention. He’s not too happy about the competition either. Not only that, he’s not prepared to wait for his initiation into this new world. His impatience has consequences when he crosses paths with a beast of a female Dom who has no limits. What happens is laughably embarrassing, horrendously painful and ouch, did the after-effects make me cringe!

Favourite quote: " I'm going to make sure that I can f**K for England before I bed her ... she can't keep her mouth closed about anything.".

There’s a new man in town and Lord above, I wouldn't mind bumping into him in the middle of the night! Jones becomes a thorn in Dean’s backside. Older, much more experienced in the ways of the world, his mission in life is to protect Veuve. What from you may ask? From herself; perhaps! One can’t argue about his stance. He has his head screwed on right and more besides, and just oozes sex appeal. He also knows what he wants with another capital W. So this dead-drop gorgeous male slowly but surely wriggles his way into Veuve’s thoughts. Mine too!

WANT! This simple word takes on a distinctively different meaning from what I am used to! Desire has to be the perfect definition in this heated story full of sublime innuendos.

While I'm at it, I have to give you the definition of Veuve and Jones' relationship, too. Complicated to say the least. They always seem to be walking on hot coals and although they both want in ... that damn word 'want' keeps cropping up again and again, he realises that Veuve is fighting past demons. Why does he remind her of someone or something that happened in her past is to be disclosed. We don’t know who or what holds her back. But by remembering her past, only results in unanswered questions in this story. So the author’s titillating ways kept me in limbo. Cursing here! And big time!

Apart from everything that is occurring in her life, I was absolutely enchanted with a young soul whose innocence is so becoming. The Kid. She has taken him under her wing. She constantly worries about how he’s going to cope one day in a world that appears to have been so cruel to him. I was left hanging here. Yet again, this brilliant piece of work on the author’s part reveals nothing. We’ll have to wait and see what really caused this clever lad to be in the position that he’s in. He has an enormous amount of respect for Jones who wouldn’t ever envisage overstepping the fine line. Respect apart, Jones could hold the key to Pandora’s Box. I sincerely hope that you, Ms. Chase, don’t make us readers suffer regarding this loveable youngster. Please, please go easy on him!

This woman, Veuve, deserves ten out of ten and five gold stars in my book. Excusing the pun, I ask the author for more! For once in my reviewing life, I can honestly say that the cliff hanger is perfection. I laughed, cried and I blasphemed in this read. Doesn't sound so good, does it? Well, no worries because the plot was beyond my expectations.

One comment of utmost importance. It made me sit back and think about many aspects of sexual abuse and bullying. As an educator, I am in awe of the homework this author has done to get her facts right. It saddened me to know that the social services fail so miserably when dealing with such delicate issues.

As you might have noticed, I haven’t mentioned the sex scenes in my review. One click … open the book … and see for yourself! To say they're hot with a twist or two here and there would be an understatement.

Bravismo Ms. Chase! The definition of WANT has been perfectly construed in this read. Furthermore, your heart has taken a one hundred and eighty degree turn for the best which I would say is a courageous change indeed. Your hard work has paid off resulting in a perfectly written and delicate read handled with the utmost sensitivity. I can't wait to see what more you have to offer!

I read and loved J.D's Rouge Passion series and have been impatiently waiting for more from Dean and La Veuve Noire. Now i have to point out here that i don't read about female dommes....ever, it's just not my thing BUT i loved Veuve, the domme/ sex therapist with a heart of gold. J.D brought her to life for me, she took my expectations and my small minded stereotypical views (i'm been honest) and turned them on their head. Having already met La Veuve Noire in Rouge Passion offering to help Dean, i expected this to be a romance between them. I did not expect the twists and turns in this book. Veuve is a domme, probably the best there is, but she's also a sex therapist, albeit a slightly unconventional one, and she really does have a heart of gold. Fighting her own demons from the past, while trying to help her various patients and trying to raise The Kid, she's determined to do it all on her own. And this is where Jones comes in. Jones has already come to Deans rescue in the past, and once again he's there to help him, showing Veuve that there's more to Jones then the dominant alpha male she sees. Throw in The Kids natural acceptance of Jones and Veuve is fighting a losing battle, especially when it's Jones who is there for her when she feels she's failed a patient and falls to pieces. I loved The Kid. How could i not? He's so unbelievably sweet, child like and innocent but you just know he's hiding some of the dark stuff that's happened to him. I need to know more about him and how he came to be with Veuve, especially after what we learn towards the end of this book. Then there's Dean. Now honestly i felt sorry for him, i could totally understand why he's the way he is and why he's so confused.
This is quite a hard book for me personally to review (I'm not a professional reviewer), it was both what i was expecting and not. I knew it would be good, i knew it would have a good story/characters etc and i knew it would be hot. I didn't expect it to make me rethink my own views and opinions on things. I didn't expect the detail and understanding that has been put in, not just the BDSM/sex club stuff but just in general. You can tell the author has researched the subjects in this book thoroughly. This book literally comes to life in your hands. The characters are so well written, they become living breathing people, you feel their pain, joy and fears. I never thought i'd get hooked on a book featuring a female domme but this book is so so much more than 'a book featuring a female domme'. It made me actually think about what a domme is and to see them as a person, with feelings, a heart and soft edges. The sex scenes in this book are scorching hot (to be honest that doesn't come close to describing them) they're brilliantly written and just very very hot. The chemistry between certain characters is palpable and the story will keep you guessing all the way through as to which way it's going to go. I'd highly recommend this book, it really will make you think about certain things and it really is a brilliant story. I can't wait for more from this series, especially Veuve and The Kid. Fantastic job J.D.

I was hugely honoured to receive an ARC copy prior to release.
Now I don't mind admitting that it has taken me several days to digest and write my review...anyone that knows me is aware reviews aren't always my forte but here goes!
This first book in this new series was unlike anything I think I have read before and seems a different style of writing in some ways to what I am used to from J D Chase but it was phenomenal, there is no other word to describe this book.

The detail within the pages, it is very clear the research that went into this book, the depth of writing...the joy, the pain, the fear, the anticipation it was all there in spades.
I am totally an alpha male whore so was I going to like reading about La Veuve Noire ? a Domme ? but very quickly I realised that I was labelling a character, a potential person without proper foundation so I dived in. La Veuve was a complex and intriguing character, a sex therapist to boot and in big demand...a stressful life trying to be all things to all people and with secrets too, I loved her, I wanted to be her friend. She was strong but vulnerable...she was outspoken and at times detached but she was pure of heart and I loved her.

We get to meet old and new characters...Dean who we met in the Rouge Passion series...a character I did not particularly like but you get a better understanding of why he is the way he is now...he has a lot more growth to come and I'm excited to see how this turns things around for him....if indeed it does.
Then we have The Kid...bright, full of love, scared, a man child if you will and I loved the scenes with him, I enjoyed how he changed, how he grew and his relationship with Veuve and particularly Jones.

Now Jones....yes he's mine i think! I loved his character....strong...unafraid...never giving up on what was important and despite La Veuve being indifferent to him at times he never walked away and remained strong, sometimes silent by her side and his relationship with the Kid was one of the best I've seen and brought a real lump to my throat at times.

Lastly there was Dan, a pivotal part of this story and this brought a different element to the book and you see a different side to the characters because of this one person.......I wanted to hug him so hard......

So a brilliant book, one of my favourites ever I think...emotional & heartbreaking....secrets abound which are woven into the story very well allowing you to piece things together to tie the story up nice and tight yes?
All true except the nice and tight part....what a flipping cliffhanger, yes you heard me a complete WTF cliffhanger that ensures that I will become J D Chase's biggest stalker until we get the next part
Bravo

Holy smokes!!!!

You think you've read it all? Vouloir takes you on a journey of epic proportions. Exploring the world of BDSM in all its glory and darkness and reveals a truly dark side to an otherwise safe sane and consensual lifestyle choice.

Highlighting how one bad decision made can lead to a whole world of hurt and pain both physically and mentally.

Vouloir features some characters we have met briefly before in the Rouge Passion series and continues on with their stories, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

As always the plot and characters storyline were totally captivating and drew me in from the first chapter. At times there are some quite difficult subjects covered which may be hard for some to read but these are written well and the situations and characters, i feel are done justice. I just hope that justice reigns in the long run .....

The queen of twist has returned ladies with a monster cliffy to boot! Hold onto your hats ladies Le Veuve Noire is about to take you on the emotional ride of your life !

Wow JD Chase has really set the bar with Vouloir for other Domme books in my opinion. The Domme theme is something I tend to steer clear of because they are just never portrayed very well for me; the general consensus amongst authors seems to be that they are nasty and bitchy. So I was apprehensive about Vouloir but also very intrigued by Le Veuve Noire from the first time she very confidently strode into the bar in The Redeemed book.

We meet a few characters in this book that we met in The Redeemed but this is a series that stands completely separate from The Player series. The first being Veuve herself, the sexy Domme by night and the Sexual Therapist by... well just about any hour that the call comes in. Then poor Dean who has accepted Veuve’s offer of sexual therapy for his problem of being a flop in bed and Jones the rather hot former marine turned security personnel. And JD creates a story that blends these characters together so well along with a few new ones such as the hot barman/sub Gabe and The Kid, the rather mysterious house guest of Veuve. And their common ground is that they all have a want.....a Vouloir.

Veuve tries to be a tower of strength for everyone around her especially when the middle of the night calls come with a referral for her “day job” services but a series of events beyond her control seem to pull at her and she soon finds herself fighting to keep her control. She is thrown further off kilter by the arrival of Jones in her life that triggers memories she doesn’t want to face but as well as helping Veuve through a traumatic event he has an instant rapport with The Kid that she can’t ignore or put a stop to.

The Kid is such an enigma that I cannot wait to learn his story and yet I am totally scared to, that’s if my imagination is leading me in the right direction from the hints delivered in Vouloir. I loved him, he was so innocent in his mannerisms, childlike even and it hurts to think what he has seen in his short life and so his budding relationship with Jones was a joy to read.

Jones is a character I was not expecting to have such a leading role in Vouloir (in fact this book is everything I was not expecting and more) so I loved being in his head and hearing his opinion of the world he suddenly found himself in that seemed to press a few of his buttons. I love how he is suddenly a strong presence in Veuve and The Kid’s life and look forward to seeing how that pans out more.

And Dean, bless him, his therapy leads us to see both the Domme and therapist sides of Veuve and that brings us some seriously hot scenes and situations. Dean is such an odd character that seems like a teenager lost in a man’s body that can’t escape and I can’t help but worry how things are going to play out with him and Veuve as her closeness to Jones develops.

I loved the scenes in this book with Veuve in her Domme persona they are so well written and are seriously hot but you realise that they are an anchor for Veuve, a coping mechanism and so they really are secondary to much of the bigger picture going on in this brilliant story.

This is a book that was a joy to read despite some difficult subject matter purely because it was so well delivered and written, the characters are so well developed that you feel a connection to them all. And I seriously have a crush on Veuve. I really cannot wait for the next book in this series already especially given the WTH ending to Vouloir that was perfectly built up and executed; I totally did not see that coming at all, well played JD.

La Veuve Noire. The Black Widow. Featured slightly in JD Chase's Rouge Passion series thanks to Dean (more about him later). She is an enigma. No one knows her real name. No one knows what she keeps in those mental boxes of hers. Every man (and even some women!) want her and every woman (and, yes, even some men!) want to be her. She is a sex therapist by day, a Domme to be feared and revered by night and all around badass 24/7. I love her. She has a quick wit, a razor sharp tongue and shows no mercy. Yet she's troubled and has a past I was more than willing to dig and delve into to find out how and why she came to be the formidable woman she is today.

Jones. Our ex-Commando. Blonde hair, blue eyes, all abs and pecs and tattoos. All over delish. *wipes drool* He has his own story and the end to Vouloir certainly makes me desperate for it. It's one I can't wait to discover.

Dan. A deeply troubled boy given a slither of hope. He grabbed it but never held on. How his story starts shook me to the core and I was instantly invested in his story.

Dean. A side character from the Rouge Passion series and one we get to know inside and out from his relationships with his colleagues, his peers and his annoying mother. His journey from how we first met him is an extraordinary one. And it's all down to La Veuve Noire (LVN)

The Kid. Now, this character intrigues me and I'm invested in him and his story oh-so-much. I adore him. I want to wrap him in cotton wool and take away his pain and fears and memories. Such a complex character and one that JD wrote to perfection. There us enough backstory to pique your interest yet enough not said to make you want, need and demand more!

JD, to put it simply, has written her best work yet. Her attention to detail is inspiring and her method and way of telling this unique and spellbinding story has me in awe of her. She says she had all the highs and lows while writing this? I felt them too - every emotional moment, every tear shed, every joke and one-liner I got. I'm privileged and honoured to call this lady a friend first, an author second. Read this story. But be warned, it's one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. JD Chase knows no other way! The twist at the end is outstanding, looping the tales of many people together and making you need to find out more.

Despite my best efforts I've not managed to wrangle any secrets from her yet. And I need them. I need Falloir and I need it now.

OH LA LA for VOULOIR
Vouloir is the first in the new J.D Chase series Passion Noire and features some of the characters we met in the Player and Redemption including Dean the barman and Jones the very hot security guard. Whilst this is a lot darker read than its predecessors it’s just as good if not better.

La Veuve Noire is a Sexual councillor by day and a Domme at a BDSM sex club during the day. We see her struggle to cope with her life as she tries to juggle all her commitments including her mysterious flatmate the Kid. She finds release at her club Vouloir but even that is beginning to be a dangerous place to be.
When the ex marine Jones appears in her life and wins the confidence of the kid she has to face up to her fears. She knows she shouldn’t want him as not only does he remind her of a man from post but it’s obvious from the outset that he’s a natural Dom. Can the Black Widow overcome her natural trepidation and heal all her scars.
J.D. Chase has done it again. I love her writing style, she manages to make her characters come to life on the page and she effortlessly draws you in to the story so you can’t put the book down.
Vouloir is French for want and I want the next book immediately please as I can’t wait to read more about Veuve - the tart with a heart of gold and Jones.

***ARC kindly provided for the exchange of an honest review from Netgalley***

This was an ok book. I will be honest. This is the second book I read from this author and I was happily surprised. The style of writing was improved from my previou experience (The Player).

I've liked the story and the plot. The book was written with multiple points of view and it was kind of interesting. There were unexpected turns of events and surprises. The main character was well written. The book ended with a cliff hanger and it was good! I even consider to read the second part of the book just to find out what will happen next! That were the positive points.

Now, like in the Player, there were long explanations and monologues when it didn't feel needed. Although there were multiple points of view, it was confusing their need. For example, the book was finished and I didn't understand why I needed to be in Dean's head or to make a connection with the previous series, when there was nothing in common. I also didn't understand why I had to follow Dean's story. It really didn't feel needed. The intimate scenes were sometimes awkward although there were a couple really sexy (but only a couple!)

The book wasn't disappointing like the Player but it wasn't a great success either. It was definetely better and there is lots of potential for this author.

As always the plot and characters storyline were totally captivating and hooked from the chapter one. At times there are some quite difficult subjects covered which may be hard for some to read but these are written well.
I loved J.D's Rouge Passion series. and I could not wait to hear more from Dean
There was loads of Twists and turns in this book I did not expect.
I don't normally read books with a female domme but holy hell this one was great I didn't read any teasers or anything going in and I loved it. it is well written and you can connect with the characters.
I love a book that makes you feel and this book did it for me
Can't wait for book 2 with an ending like that great book

OMG

I was given a copy of this to for my opinion on the story.

Although I felt it was a slow start, I was hooked from about the 3rd chapter, this was a dark novel full of BDSM and torture, so not for the faint hearted in my recommendation.

But this went beyond just being a deep story it was one that I will remember and I would love to read more from J D Chase.

For me this held
Intrigue
Suspense
Mystery

An amazing book by J. D. Chase! It was the first I'd read by this author and certainly won't be the last. I loved La Veuve Noire for all her feisty imperfection and the supporting characters were equally captivating. Can't wait to read the next book.

This book is very intriguing, bit of a slow build. But original storyline, dark elements, mysterious undertones. Curious to see where this leads, book 2 has potential to get better.

First, I'll be honest, I thought this was going to be another story about a Dom and a Sub, you know, as 50 Shades. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Vouloir talks about that, but this is different, is the story of a woman, a Domme, that runs a very exclusive, high-profile "sex-club".

La Veuve Noire, sex therapist by day, Domme by night. When you start reading this book, you get the image of a woman that know what she wants, she's strong, she commands everything on her world.
But, after a few casual encounters with a certain man, you can see that beneath all the power she shows, there's something hidden.

La Veuve was once a "normal" woman that fell in love with the, apparently, Prince Charming. Though, that wasn't the reality. She fell in love with a man, that was a monster, that tried to make her a submissive, and though she tried to pleased him, it wasn't in her nature. I won't reveal too much on this part of the story, because is so good, it deserves to be read from the book, and not a review.

Now a days, La Veuve is a professional woman that does the things she loves, helping other people to grab their sexuality, and running Vouloir, where she enjoys her other passion, being a Domme.
What we don't imagine is La Veuve having a little secret, being hidden at her place....The Kid, a little boy she rescue from the Hospital, a boy that had no name, no past, nothing...or at least, that's what the Government believes. She takes The Kid under her care, to help him overcome all the trauma he has known. But, what she doesn't know is that the same man that brings her past back to the present, is the same man that's going to help bring The Kid, and herself from the past...This man, is Jones, an ex-militar that works in a hotel, and that get to know La Veuve because some kind of faith, or in this case, because of Dean, an employee of a hotel, that has to deal with the fact he's a lousy lay. Yep, sounds harsh, but it is what it is.

Dean is another character on Vouloir, though I gotta say, that it was annoying as hell, if not for the fact that thanks to him La Veuve and Jones get to know each other, I would smack him, repeatedly, possibly using a hammer. No offense JD, but this man has NEXT NORMAN BATES tattoo on his forehead. I mean, dude grow a pair....But, he's kinda forgiven for introducing Jones to La Veuve.

Back to yummy Jones, as we can imagine, huge man, built, a total hottie. But, he has some kind of problem, after spending so many years defending his country, he now need to have challenges all the time. He can't live as a normal guy, he needs the rush, the adrenaline, something that shows he's alive. Even when he chase after a woman, has to be a challenge (hey, not in a creepy way...iugh), he doesn't like the easy lay, but doesn't have a relationship either.
Jones has a terrible story hidden, he lost his sister, and he never stop from blaming himself. (People, pay special attention to the part where Jones tells about his sister's disappearance.)

Man, I could keep going on and on for a very long time, and I can't wait for book 2 to come out.

I have to say, that this book is nothing you'll expect. It's going to be amazing, it has really steamy sexual encounters, some of those are going to let you wonder, why the hell am I not doing that? And some are going to make you say...well, I'll be damn!
I really loved Vouloir, I love the characters and how JD gave them life, you can feel the pain they feel, or the excitement, and yes, sometimes you'll get horny.

I highly recommend this book, definitely a #MustRead!!!

JD, can't wait for part 2, and I really appreciate the fact you gave me the chance to read this book!!!!

J. D. Chase is still a relatively new author to me. I've read and loved Orion the Hunter last year and so I decided that it's about time to read some of her other books. That's how I decided on reading Vouloir. And this book definitely confirmed for me that I love J. D. Chase's writing. I was captivated from the beginning. Even though the story is not my usual type of book (you probably know by now that I love fast paced romantic suspense), I still loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed the psychological part of the story and the development of the characters.

In the beginning of the book when I got introduced to La Veuve Noire, I wasn't sure what to expect from the character and to be honest, I wasn't even sure whether I would like the story. But my opinion changed almost immediately. La Veuve Noire is quite a complex character with so many layers that even after reading the first book, I am not sure that I know everything about her. Her story is definitely heartbreaking and I admire her strength and compassion. Surviving what she did survive is something that a lot of people couldn't have and probably would have given up on their life long before she managed to escape. Her background explains a lot about her way of life and her reactions towards the people around her. Especially her demeanor towards Jones and the Kid. And even in a way towards Dean.

Dean is definitely an interesting character but I can definitely say that he is not a favorite of mine. It was interesting to read how he recognizes his problems with the help of Veuve but I am not so fond of his reaction to her and I have to say that I am a little bit scared to find out what will happen in the end with him.

The character I was most intrigued by was Jones. He is the typical dominant and protective alpha male with a special soft spot for the Kid and Veuve. Their interactions are always interesting and intriguing. The connection between Jones and the Kid is undeniable but I have to say that I never expected the reasons behind it. J. D. Chase definitely managed to pull one on me with that one. But for me the relationship that kept my interest is the one between Veuve and Jones. Their conversations are always filled with sexual tension and the chemistry between them is simply off the charts. I thoroughly enjoyed reading how their interactions change with time and I have to say that I can't wait to see what will happen next.

In a few words, the book is impressively well written and even though it is not filled with danger and suspense (at least at that point), the characters and the story are so intriguing that they just kept me glued to the book. And when I finished the last page I was just craving more. That's why I am directly diving into Falloir. I just need to know what happens next with LaVeuve Noire, The Kid, Jones and Dean :) So in my opinion, if you haven't read anything by J.D. Chase so far, Vouloir is a perfect place to start. I am pretty sure, you won't regret it.

WARNING:VOULOIR CONTAINS EXPLICIT CONTENT SUITABLE FOR MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY. CONTAINS BDSM ELEMENTS AND POTENTIAL TRIGGERS FOR SOME READERS.

So, I am sat here after just finishing Vouloir, by J.D. Chase, and the one thought going through my mind at this precise moment in time is...

'NOOOOOOOO J.D. Chase, You can not end this here! Please do not make me wait what will now feel like a lifetime of torture, for the next instalment of the three part Passion Noire Series!'

No matter how many times I go back to the end of this book, there is no book two magically there, and my sense of loss is immense!

Vouloir is quite simply an amazing mesmerising read. It's different. It's deeply dark, and it sucks you deep within the binds of it's gripping pages.
This story was completely and utterly different to anything I have read before. I was waaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone with this one. I know little to nothing on the subject of BDSM, and I'm pretty sure that my knowledge on the D/s side of it is pretty sparse also. I'm not even sure that I even fully understood what it all actually entails.
Vouloir is almost like an education for me. It's a huge eye opener of a book, and it's clear from the onset that a lot of research went into the story by the author making this story truly a work of art.
J.D. Chase drew me into the world of La Veuve Noire, from the very start and I literally did not want to let go at the very end. The writing is superb. Flawless to the point where reading is almost like living along side the characters in a real world.
There are so many different intermingling stories in this one book. With each character having his/her own intriguing story to tell, my interest never wavered, and a wanted to know more. I needed to know more. Then came the cliffhanger!! WHAT?? WHY J.D, just WHY?? So now I have to wait for book two. Patiently :( But, that's what makes this one amazing read! I'm hooked...line and sinker too.
VOULOIR is one book I will be highly recommending to anyone, and definitely worth the five massive stars it well and truly deserves that I'm rating it!

In this first book of the Passion Noir series JD Broaches some pretty heavy and dark subjects, but as dark as it gets she has very masterfully balanced out the intensity with some hilarious one liners. JD has you heartbroken, turned on, full of “hope”, nervous, excited, inquisitive, praying certain things work out and much much more, so as a reader you definitely get one heck of a journey for your money!

La Veuve Noir is one strong leading lady! With how she feels the need to fix things and her cut throat attitude to anything in her way, with the weight of the world on her shoulders, she still puts everyone else’s needs before her own! La Veuve’s every thought is narrated within this story giving all situations a more detailed and in depth understanding. Which helped me to relate as I had zero knowledge of the BDSM world and the way things work - I have definitely learned a few things on this subject from this book.

We have a number of characters who are each charming within their own right and all a necessity to the story.
The kid is so funny despite his ‘issues’ and you cant help but fall for him and his quirky ways. Dean is a pretty normal guy with low self confidence, Veuve takes pity on him and makes it her responsibility to help him through a bad time.
Through Dean we meet Jones who becomes a main feature in helping Veuve and The Kid. He’s an ex marines commando and as hot as one can be - he had me drooling for sure!

At the end of the book there is one almighty curveball of a cliffy thrown in for good measure. JD had me begging for more of this story and with the extra twist thrown in at the end, lets just say the wait for book 2’s release is going to be a painful one for me! I have already told my friends they NEED to buy this book, so obviously I would recommend this book to anyone who will listen to me haha!

Wow o woW! J.D. Chase you have created an amazing piece of work once again and surpassed yourself!

I was instantly drawn into the book and couldn't escape (granted I really didn't want to!). Vouloir took me on a adventure through the world of BDSM and completed changed my views (probably prejudices) of a world I realise I know very little about! I loved absolutely everything about this book - I quite literally cannot think of a bad word to say about this amazing work!

You can tell that a lot of time, care and research went into creating a completely realistic world with characters I want to know! I'll admit I completely stereotyped La Veuve Noire and I was completely wrong with my assumptions, she's such a deep character and so much more than I thought! She's so strong but vulnerable, detached but loving, completely dominating but for the right man, who knows... She's one of my all time favourite characters, I want to be her friend and maybe have a therapist sessions as well!

Jones, well what can I say about this fine hunk of manly manliness! He's a strong character who is willing to give up if he knows he's needed!

I'm sorry if this review doesn't make much sense - I may have finished this book a couple of hours ago but I haven't recovered from my book hangover just yet!

This is book has me wanting so much more that I cannot wait for the one! I was surprisingly emotional throughout which I was not expecting! I have but one bone to pick with the lovely Chase - CLIFFHANGER! DUDE WHAT THE HELL!! I sat at my desk for a good 5 minutes just staring at my kindle!! (One of the best cliffhangers I have come across!)

J.D. please don't make me wait long for the next installment!

The “tart with a heart” has won me over!

I tried to wrap my tongue around the title and even the character’s name but quickly gave up to instead dive into this riveting read. This is the first J.D. Chase novel for me and I didn’t realize it had characters from another series. This didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story at all but certainly has me looking for the other series now.

La Veuve Noire has two jobs – she is a Domme and she is also a sexual therapist. These vocations are both hands on, and require a good understanding of the human psyche. Needless to say, she handles both jobs very well with her own brand of frankness, directness and unique style. Sex is definitely a focus of this story but I love the way there is so much more. This is not a light read as it deals with a number of serious topics – suicide, sexual orientation, family function and dysfunction. The story is told through multiple points of view and that is a good thing as there is a lot going on here. There are multiple storylines and they intermingle and cross connect in unexpected ways. You will need to pay attention to catch all the nuances as the conversation and monologues are many. The past meets the present with one influencing and haunting the other. This “talker” had me glued to the kindle to the very last page. Oh, did I mention the incredible cliffhanger at the end? Yup, definitely kindle-throwing worthy.

I cannot wait for the next in this series. If you enjoy dark, adult, humourous (yes, surprisingly the quips and sarcastic humour are everywhere here) storytelling you will want to pick this up right now!

Wow, where do I start???

I have known about J.D. Chase for about a year now. I have always thought her books looked enticing, but just never got around to actually picking one up. Well I was reading a list of authors i would be seeing at a signing, and JD was kind enough to gift me a copy of her book. From the very first chapter i knew i was hooked.

I have a real thing for darker romances. The ones that cover the more taboo subjects, things that people generally don't talk about. I love how these authors can make me think in a way i have never done so before. I also have a thing for strong women, and Veuve is one of the strongest, but most realistic, female lead i have ever read about. So instantly i was in love.

Rather than the standard first person narrative from one perspective, the story flicks between Veuve, Dean and Jones. The characters are intertwined in ways you could never guess and the story develops and becomes deeper and deeper. But if you dont like cliffhangers, make sure you have the next one next to you. I have been itching to pick the next one up as soon as i finished it and im gutted i wont be able to for a little while.

I wont go into too much detail as im not great at writing reviews without spoilers, but i will say that I was soo in love with all of the characters, even the ones that really made me mad at times, that i just want to go and read everything this woman has ever done. It is well worth the read and despite being tied to other series, i did not feel like i was missing out not having read the other series first. She now has a new lifelong fan :)

There are several reasons why I gave this book 5 stars. This author tackles difficult subjects and knows what she is talking about. She not only is knowledgeable on the subjects but expresses the emotions that go with it, such as sexual identity, suicide, etc.
She also teeters on the edge of the reader maybe being uncomfortable but I think that's a good thing. Anyone can write a "chic" romance book but it's a gift to write about an unconventional romance or a different type of romance and make the reader open their mind and feel someone else's view even if it's something the reader doesn't feel they would do. It's a gift to make the reader feel the characters pain and be able to connect with them.
This book had more than just sex, to be honest there were a few parts that were eye opening to me and surprising. I am pretty open and sexual but found myself learning a lot.
The book is written in 3 people's POV. I'm sure that was tricky but she pulled it off! The main female character was easy to like. It was interesting to see her strong and yet weak.
Dean is a frustrating guy who you find yourself hoping he gets his shit together.
Jones is a guy you just wanna take to bed! She made him the perfect alpha male! I can't find any fault in him except he isn't in my bed. Lol
Of course the book ends with lots left to tell, I can't wait for the second and third book. I'm sure it won't be disappointing.

Talk about a woman who knows what she wants! Wow, this book was red hot!!
I have to say this is the first book I’ve read with a lead dominating woman. It was different. Good different.

La Veuve Noire is a sex therapist, who seems to be putting out one fire after another. She is very passionate about her work and cares deeply for troubled kids. She even has one, The Kid, hiding out in her apartment. Something terribly tragic happened to The Kid and La Veuve Noire is slowly helping him. He is about 17 years old but like a child, knowing absolutely nothing of the world. He doesn’t even step foot outside her apartment, EVER.
La Veuve Noire also has her own demons she keeps buried in her past. Being a Dom gives her the control she desperately needs.
Helping one of her patients, La Veuve Noire meets Jones, a man who strongly resembles someone from her past. A past she rather forget. He is a charming, dominating man, and persistent but she wants nothing to do with him. Somehow The Kid takes a liking to Jones. The Kid never engages anyone but something about Jones, calms him. And with Jones’ help he is slowly learning a lot more about the world outside the apartment.

Jones and La Veuve Noire are both dominating people. I don’t see Jones submitting to Noire but I guess if he wants her bad enough he will.
My, my, my….so much happens in this book. It is unreal. The ending just blew my mind. I have to see how the story ends!

Vouloir was quite a different story than what I am currently read. Usually the lifestyle that La Veuve Noire lives does not include a day job of being a therapist. She is a very strong woman and cares for all her loved ones and all kids that need help. One of a kind!
Parts of the story were gut wrenching. So sad. Also, brow raising.oohhhh moments.
There are 3 other characters that make the plot twist. La Veuve is helping Dean to live a real life as a man. Not a boy. I do like Dean. However when you read this book, there is a part that will make you cringe. Best word...OUCH! We will see more about Dean in the next book.
The Kid....what can I say to explain how much I love him! So sweet and innocent. Sometimes life is unfair. But I am expecting a the BEST outcome for him.
As for Jones. Love him. Alpha with a sweet spot. How can you not like him? He is the full package. Jones with the Kid? Melt my heart.

I really enjoyed the book. The ending kind of tapered off. It went in another direction. There are so many evolving plots in one book. I had a bit of whiplash. You will have to make sure your read every word or you will miss very needed details.

Would I read the next book? Yes. Without a doubt. I recommend it.

This book literally had me on the edge of my seat! This is by far the best work of jd chase! There are twists and turns in this book that will leave you guessing and wanting more!! The famous la veuve noire who comes across as hard passionate Dom really has a heart of gold! Then there is poor dean from the rouge passion series who once again gets rescued by jones! It was lovely reading more about dean and why he is the way he is. Now Jones.... The chemistry between him an veuve is sizzling!!! But oh so complicated he wants her but veuve holds back for reasons that she's not will to share but Jones just can't stay away from her.

Now the kid that veuve has been looking after and that she's always worrying about him as she works so much and he's had a bad start in life. Will he ever be able to cope out in the real world? But after his meeting with Jones it looks more hopeful for the kid. But that just makes it harder for veuve as Jones is a painful reminder of someone she never wants to see again! And of course the cliffhanger well if you have read any of jds books you will know she is famous for them and this one is one hell of a cliffhanger!!!!

This book is so different to what you can imagine it has so many levels. For one it is a story of a woman with many lives and how they all connect together and the faces she hides from the world and those she lets be shown. It is also a story of strength and growth from a hard past to being confident and helping others. The central female character in this book La Veuve Noire is brilliant and i loved her and her story. I loved how detailed the book was about her lifestyle and how it is not just about sex but trust and boundaries. The male characters though add to the story they all have differing strengths and weaknesses and the sparks between La Veuve Noire and Jones are brilliant but they also let each other in. The Kid is a enigma and you along with Jones clamour for info on this complex character and then Dean he is vulnerable and strong for trying what he wants to in life. A very interesting and complex story that is not all about passion but what the world is to many different people

This was a thrilling and unique book. I've not read anything like it before. It was refreshing to have a unique and one of a kind book! I've read some BDSM books before, but the whole concept of this book was so enthralling and different. It captured my attention from start to finish. I read it in all one sitting!

Vouloir is explicit, sexual, gripping, saddening and mind blowing. One minute you think you know what will happen and then bam... especially that ending. That I didn't see happening. Wowza and well played J.D. Well played! :)

There are plenty of amazing characters -- men especially in this woman's life. You'll be swooning over the men and fanning yourself for sure!!!!

If you love a unique one of a kind book with BDSM that has plenty of heart... you'll love this book!

I'm so eager to find out what will be happening in the next installment!! I can't wait to find out more!!!
