I am his absolute obsession...
Six months ago I was trapped in a library with a man who wanted to possess me. For three days, a record-breaking blizzard kept me confined with Lucent Storme, the dominating and enigmatic Director of Public Relations for Landseer Enterprises. Rumors existed of his forbidden desires and darker passions, but I didn't believe them. I should have. For one weekend, I became Lucent's sole obsession.

When the snow began to melt, he tried to leave me. He thought he could save me from himself, from his control. I didn't let him. I was already his.

From USA Today Bestselling Author Cerys du Lys ~

Six months ago my entire life changed. I never meant to fall in love--especially not with Lucent--but his allure transcended common sense and tapped into a dark, primal need inside me that I didn't know existed. The snow melted, our lives quieted, and everything seemed to be going perfectly.

Until today.

I thought I knew Lucent, but I realize now I never really did. A mysterious calm exists even within the eye of the darkest storms. I love Lucent. I am his and he is mine. I want to believe he is a good man. After seeing another side of him, after being the object of his absolute obsession, I fear I might have fallen in love with a monster.

(This scintillating steamy romantic suspense novel contains themes of domination and submission)

His Absolute Assignment: An Illicit Billionaire Love Story
Elise #1

Amazon Kindle - Freebie

It takes a lot for me to give a rating of one... I hate doing it, but this book was pure torture to finish.
I couldn't get into the book because it was honestly really that awful. The constant talking to herself had me so fed up and frustrated. I literally gave up and skimmed the remainder of the book because I have never not finished a book.
I had downloaded the second book, which was also a freebie. And I tried getting into that one thinking that I needed to just give it a second chance. Nope. Waved my flag in surrender.

I will say the only thing I did like about it was the mystery part of who started the fire. That's the only reason why I wanted to continue was to find out.

This book fragment is so disorganized and pointless that it's a frustrating read. Most of the book is consumed with Elise's obsessive thoughts about her boyfriend, who is somehow a billionaire despite being head of PR for another billionaire. Where did his billions come from? Who cares, Elise sure doesn't (Lucent Storme, Director of Public Relations, figurehead for the public front of Landseer Enterprises. He attended press conferences, spoke about new and exciting deals, went to events, traveled, and overall he just did a lot of things.).

Lucent and Elise met when they were trapped together in a library during a blizzard. That has been covered in other installments of this story, but is revisited here (presumably to boost the word count). Elise was a college student then. Now she works for the same corporation she does, because the head of the corporation set up a "literature" division and he hired his wife, Jessika, to run it. She hired Elise, whose job appears to be just . . . writing short stories about her time in the library with Lucent. The path to eventual profit for this new division is extremely unclear to me and it became even more confusing as the story progressed and Elise told us she had absolutely no idea what her job duties even were besides watching movies with Jessika and writing her own erotic biography.

Jessika, by the way, is the SECOND wife of the billionaire. Apparently she was hired to be a surrogate for the billionaire and his first wife and she decided she'd rather have the billionaire. In Elise's eyes, this is a grand romance: Jessika wasn't anyone important before meeting Asher, you know? It was one of those weird Cinderella types of stories, except not really. Sort of, a little bit? A spiritual successor to Cinderella. Yes. That sounded fancier and did a better job of vaguely explaining it than I ever could. . I guess if those two signed my paychecks and I had no inherent sense of morality, I too would try to fancy up that relationship in my mind.

Also, the author seems to think that librarians are automatically experts in restoring rare books. There's a flashback scene where Asher brings a "limited special edition" copy of Dante's Inferno to the local library and Elise helps restore the book. Like when did she learn these skills? What is a "special edition" in this context? I was so perplexed that I had to set down the book for a moment.

Oh well, at least we get to learn about Lucent's "absolute assignment." What has he been assigned to do and by who? Oh wait, there isn't ever an assignment? Okay, well, then it's just a confusing title to go along with a murky plot of a strange enemy trying to steal a hard drive filled with Lucent's secrets (PR can be a rough biz, I guess). What I do know is that Lucent speaks in a way that is absolutely insufferable (perhaps that was his assignment?). I think he's supposed to sound like Christian Grey, but it's like he was run through a AI thesaurus program: "You peer outside, ascertain as to whether it is hot, cold, raining, snowing, or all other manner of meteorological assessment, then you approach someone of interest and discuss in minor detail what you've just discovered . . . " is how he coaches her on small talk.

This entire thing is so contrived and silly. I did admire how the author was somehow able to reach within herself and make Elise's writing, as presented to us, somehow even worse than her own writing.

Here is a portion of the book within the book:

Trapped in a library during a blizzard, Elise finds herself forced into isolation with Lucent Storme, the untoward magnate who's rumored to have more than a few forbidden desires and darker passions. Both appalled and allured by his sordid sophistication, struggling to come to terms with what she knows and what she feels, she finds herself drawn to this man who seems both powerful and fractured all at once. Lucent's secrets and dominant obsessions may be more than Elise can handle, though, and her gentle curiosity is just as likely to cause her pain and heartbreak as it is to bring her happiness.

Elise is one of the most clueless characters I've encountered in a while. She's a college graduate, but she's frequently confused by her boyfriend embracing her (she's "not sure what is happening," which . . . it's your boyfriend embracing you, what isn't to understand?). About her job, she tells us, "Lucent helped me a lot, but other people did, also. He wouldn't admit it, but I had a strong feeling that he was one of the sole reasons I got a job at Landseer Tower working with Jessika Landseer." You have a strong feeling that your personal relationship with the head of PR got you a cushy job where you just get to write short stories and watch movies with your boss, who is the wife of the CEO. Come on, Elise. He probably didn't "admit" it because he assumed you had something besides rocks in your head.

This was an awesome book and a must read. I read The Billionaire'Ultimatum first and have also started reading the continuum's for each book. Cerys du Lys is a great author who I've really connected with in regards to the books. They are not over the top BDSM which is a nice change and has more of a romantic side than most of the Erotica genre novels I read. I cannot wait for the next installment of the continuum's to see where the story leads.

This book captures your attention. It keeps you entrenched from the beginning to the end. This is a book of intrigue. It leaves you guessing from the very first page. It's not a short story and if you love a good love scene with some intrigue. You should definitely read this book.

too short and under developed

The plot has an interesting take, but this book moves too fast in places where there should be more details. The ending leaves much too be desired.
