Turtley Into You: A grumpy/sunshine vacation romance

Rate this book
Can a vacation fling ever turn into forever?

It should’ve been a romantic bucket list trip… but now Junie is newly single on Indonesia’s honeymoon island. She can turn anything into a positive, and she promised Grandma Frannie she’d use her inheritance to try new things— maybe a one night stand is exactly what she needs.

Steven is at his best underwater where he doesn’t have to talk. He used to enjoy partying with tourists on his dive boat, but the constant grind of saying goodbye has dulled the shine. He’s 30 now, it’s time to grow up, but his dreams of sailing around the world feel just out of reach. The last thing he needs is another temporary relationship.

When Junie finds a sea turtle in distress, the guys from the local turtle rescue come running. She’s inspired by the work they do and the attraction is instant. A sexy Aussie dive master might not be what Grannie pictured, but he’s perfect for what Junie has in mind. There’s just one problem: Steven wants nothing to do with her.

She’s chatty. She’s smiley. And she won’t go away. When Junie starts volunteering at the turtle rescue, her stay on the island is extended several weeks. Now she’s tagging along on clean-up dives, swimming with sharks, and watching baby turtles hatch all while trying to win over the grumpy scuba diver. Her enthusiasm for life is nearly impossible to resist. Against his better judgement, Steven is falling for her. And things are starting to feel a little less temporary.

If you’re craving a sunshine-filled escape with adorable turtles, healing vibes, and a swoony vacation romance, Turtley Into You might just be the beach read you didn’t know you needed.

Set on the stunning Gili Telu islands, this story follows Junie as she escapes a breakup and signs up to volunteer at a turtle sanctuary. What starts as a healing getaway quickly turns into something much bigger self-discovery, new friendships, and a romance that sneaks up on her when she least expects it.

Watching Junie evolve from heartbroken and hesitant into someone ready to embrace life again was incredibly satisfying. Her journey feels real, emotional, and relatable.

The setting is basically a tropical dream. Between the ocean views and the turtle sanctuary, the descriptions make you feel like you’re right there volunteering alongside the characters.

Junie and Steven have great chemistry. Their banter, tension, and slow-building connection make their relationship fun and engaging to watch unfold.

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts are my own

First of all, I really enjoyed the setting of the story! A turtle sanctuary on Gili Telu, a tropical Indonesian island near Bali, was the perfect backdrop for this romance. I loved the touches of conservation and ocean clean up along with turtle facts.

However, I really struggled with the emotional whiplash because the characters kept bouncing between being guarded from their past relationship hurts and lusting after each other to an extreme degree. I also felt like some details were missing that affected the continuity of the story.

This book would be great for lovers of
Grumpy x sunshine
Destination/travel romance
Overcoming past hurts

I’m conflicted. There were chapters that were great, and some that dragged. Junie and Steven both got hurt by their exs and they can’t let it go. Steven also went from refusing to talking to Junie to being head over heels for her instantaneously. It gave me whiplash. The story itself was cute, the turtle sanctuary and the dives were described beautifully.

Turtley Into You is a complete blast with very likable characters and a satisfying story.

It follows Junie, who travels to Indonesia for vacation with her friend after breaking up with her boyfriend and experiencing the death of her very adventurous grandmother. There, she meets Steven, a handsome Australian employee of the local turtle rescue. While he's a total grump who is determined to stay away from her, Junie's bubbly, optimistic nature gets the better of him and feelings start to develop.

Junie is a really likable main character. She's excitable and chatty, but not so much that it becomes irritating. She's a really nice, thoughtful person who has let her life become dull and wants to break away from that and become more adventurous. Her instant attraction to Steven is cute and makes you instantly root for them. Her back story with her dead grandmother and boring ex-boyfriend makes you want her to live her life to the extreme even more.

I love Steven. I'm a sucker for the grumps. He's also not so grumpy that he's terribly cynical or stubborn. He recognizes that Junie is exactly what he's looking for nearly right away (internally) but is resistant to her charm because he's kind and has enough integrity to not just jump into bed with someone. He has a great character arc and really makes changes to himself based on what makes him and the people he loves happy.

The story itself isn't totally unrealistic like some travel romances. Junie is secure enough in her job that she can take some time off, but that doesn't mean there aren't issues such as visas and money and vacation time. I like that the author really included a lot of details about Junie's life in the story, so you feel like you know her. Her plight is also very relatable and I'm sure a lot of us experienced some wanderlust while reading the book - I know I did.

I can't find many critiques of the book - maybe it could have moved a little slower at times between Junie and Steven, but I'm also not mad about the way it happens.

Overall, this is a really enjoyable, light read that will probably make you feel happier after finishing it.

I will start out by saying that I was given an ARC copy to read and am giving my own opinion.
This book is absolutely amazing and I loved everything about it! From the explosive chemistry between the two main characters to the gorgeous setting and the witty banter, this book is fantastic! The story does a really good job of staying lighthearted while also allowing the characters to grow and figure out who they are and what they want to do while living and working at a sea turtle sanctuary in Indonesia.
The story starts off with the FMC (Junie) finding a sea turtle in need of rescuing and the MMC (Steven) and his friend literally swoop in to save the day (talk about swoon worthy). While Steven and Mike take Jimmy (the sea turtle) to the sanctuary to take a better look at him, Junie decides to learn more about the sea turtle sanctuary and the grumpy, hot Australian diving instructor she just met.
This book absolutely needs to be one of your next reads! Did I mention that there are absolutely adorable sea turtles involved?!
Thank you so much to Kyla Rowse and her team for letting me read the book! I really enjoyed it and appreciate the opportunity!

I'm so conflicted with this book. one the one hand, I LOVED all the information about the turtles and everything the turtle rescue was all about. but I just didn't vibe with the characters. Junie sees Steven on the beach due to a turtle that she came across, he barely says anything to her and clearly is not interested in talking with her. She then decides that she wants a one night stand with him, despite him showing her zero interest. this happens a few times where you see her try to talk with him and he's showing her NO INTEREST, but she's still pushing it? Obviously in his POV chapters, we see that he does want her but is sick of being with tourists that always leave. BUT JUNIE DOESN'T KNOW THAT, she just keeps shooting her shot, but if this was a man it would be seen as icky... Only once Junie decides to stay for a while longer, does Steven tell her that he is in fact interested and then things start to get better. I just really got the ick from her trying to get with him when he told her he wasn't interested.

Turtley Into You was such a fun escape. Kyla Rowse delivers a grumpy sunshine romance packed with instant chemistry, tropical vibes, and plenty of heat.

The Bali setting feels vibrant and immersive, making it the perfect backdrop for this vacation love story. I loved watching the guarded, grumpy hero slowly open up as the sunshine heroine challenges him to step outside his comfort zone. Their connection feels genuine, and the emotional beats hit just as well as the steamy ones.

The bucket list thread adds a thoughtful layer to the story, and there is a bold, empowering moment that really stands out. It is the kind of scene that makes you want to take a leap in your own life.

If you enjoy travel romances with strong chemistry, heartfelt growth, and a few spicy scenes to keep things interesting, this one is definitely worth picking up.

Book Review:

This was one of the cutest books I’ve read in a long time. The Australian MMC, who is a diver that rescues turtles, couldn’t have been more perfect. Both characters have pretty rough relationship pasts, and the slow burn absolutely killed me—in the best way.

But when they finally hit their “fuck it” moment, it was so worth the wait.

Steve and Junie were adorable together, and it was really refreshing to see two people fall in love without the MMC being rich or powerful. I usually read mafia or billionaire romances, so this was a very different experience for me—but I absolutely loved it.

The setting was also amazing. If you love Bali vibes, turtle rescuing, diving, and a very hot Aussie MMC, this is definitely the book for you.

I’m so grateful to Kyla for letting me read this early as an ARC reader! 🖤

This book was super cute! Honestly I was sucked in by the punny title because that is hella adorable, but it perfectly fits the vibe of the book. I love a good grumpy/sunshine trope and I adored the grumpy Aussie MMC.

This book was a quick refreshing read, the spice is goooood spice (way to go Steven!) and the setting was so sweet and vacation-y. I feel like a lot fin people can relate to Junie with wanting to change the trajectory of their life and I enjoyed living vicariously through her.

I cannot wait to hear about more characters in their own stories (I heard there’s one in the works with an Iceland setting).

I received an advanced copy from the author and this honest review is voluntarily given!

This book won me over by the title alone! It’s cute, funny and lighthearted but what I enjoyed most about this book other than the spice of course 😏 is that it touched on a topic that is a real issue in this world and it’s the litter that gets dropped in the ocean all over the world and she managed to write it into this story without it taking away from the characters development. The MMC is a surly, grumpy man that got his heart broken and just focused on saving turtles and living his best diver life.
Enter FMC who also got her heart broken and wanted to explore the world and got a side of Scuba Steve with her bucket list! I love the banter and the flowing relationship between the two of these characters and what they compromise to be together and achieve both of their dreams!

Nothing like a second chance at love in a place where you never expect it and taking a leap that you never thought you'd be able to! This is a cute love story. I love that they not only had the love story but the love for saving the turtles that was a really good twist in this story!

Favorite Quote: “If turtles could be said to smile, Sweetie definitely is. Her flippers are waving frantically as she scrabbles to the edge. She’d had fishing hooks removed from her mouth and throat several weeks ago and has been kept at the sanctuary while her wounds healed. But these creatures aren’t meant to be locked up in tubs.”

What a fun beach read! Junie and Steven have such chemistry and lift each other out of their own personal heartache to find love among the turtles and beautiful waters of the Gili Telu islands.

When leaving home after the loss of her grandmother and breakup with her boyfriend, she goes to the tropical islands to pursue her lost dream of traveling the world. On the island she meets new friends, finds that travel has been something she missed dearly, and also has her "one night stand" turn out to be a lot more than she expects. This book is perfect for lovers of turtles, travel, and grumpy/sunshine romance. 🐢

Received from Author. After a break up Junie and her best friend take a 2 week trip to Bali/Indonesia. The last week of their trip they spend on a small island that also has a sea turtle sanctuary located on it. Junie finds an injured sea turtle limps up the beach tangled in fishing line/debris and meets Steven who works at the sanctuary. They have instant chemistry but his grumpy personality throws off Junie’s sunny disposition. When Junie decides to stay for a month to volunteer at the sanctuary they both have to decided what they want.

Turtley Into You by Kyla Rowse was a fun and easy beach romance. I really liked the tropical island setting and the sea turtle rescue storyline. It made the book feel a bit different from a typical vacation romance.
Junie is cheerful and determined to enjoy life after her breakup, while Steven is the classic grumpy character. Their grumpy and sunshine dynamic was entertaining and their chemistry built nicely throughout the story.
Overall, this was a cute and quick read with a beautiful setting, lovable characters, and a bit of spice. Perfect for anyone looking for a light beach romance. 🐢📚

While I really enjoyed this book, it didn't suck me into this world like I wanted it to. The characters are fun and easy to love, their story is so cute (if you ignore the timeline of the rebound) and you can tell they really care about each other. While this may not be realistic for me (it wasn't at first for Junie so who can say), I loved the adventure of it all. I am all for saving the turtles, but she takes it a few steps further and they do amazing work! Super cute book, I'd be willing to read more of this series!

A fun, feel-good tropical romance! 🌴🐢

Junie’s bubbly sunshine personality crashing into Steven’s broody diver vibes made this grumpy/sunshine pairing so entertaining. Their banter and chemistry pulled me in right away, and watching her slowly break down his walls was incredibly satisfying.

The gorgeous island setting, sea turtle rescue storyline, diving adventures, and a swoony hammock scene made this the perfect escapist romance. A sweet, warm story that will leave you dreaming of ocean views and unexpected love. ❤️

Thank you Kyla Rowse and team for gifting me this ARC to read!

I loved so much about this book! The romance was beautiful, the friendships were top tier and of course the destination sounded unbelievably stunning. I enjoyed learning about turtles and the huge effort that is put into rescuing them and insuring the ecosystem is protected. I feel inspired to reach out locally in New Zealand and see how I can help support our environment. With all that said, I genuinely loved this story and I recommend everyone to check it out!

This was such a fun rom-com. And there are sea turtles! Junie is on vacation with her best friend, after her long-term boyfriend blew her off. Junie is honoring her grandmother's memory, taking adventures in her own life. Steven is the grumpy dive master at the sea turtle rescue, and the sparks are flying. This fun vacation rom-com between Junie and Steven has its serious moments, both dealing with their pasts, but was overall so much fun!

Please bear in mind, I read this book from the earc and the publish paperback

I enjoyed most of this book!
I love the connection between the main characters and friends , the only par that I didn’t like was the fact that Steven keeps remaining us that Junie was leaving which kind of wanted her to go so that I could read about a different plot because of that I think that is why I really enjoyed her time in the states .

What a cute romance! So many connectable moments and some awesome character development. The location sounds stunning and the information about turtles as well as the ecosystem protection is well thought out. The dual POV means you see both sides of the story.

Grumpy/Sunshine and instalust/holiday romance lovers will be all for this book! I loved the bucket list aspect too.

Thank you for the ARC and all thoughts are my own.

A cute, light-hearted, what starts as a one night stand becomes so much more, romance. I really liked reading everything about the imaginary island off the coast of Indonesia. The island descriptions and the turtle sanctuary aspects were so well explained and folded into the story.

Junie and Steven are so dang cute! She’s on vacation getting over a breakup and he’s insistent on no quick hookups. The attraction is real, but he’s kind of an ass. That have the best story!
