For over half a century, he’s watched me from the shadows. With each hour we’re held prisoner, temptation draws me closer to my dark protector.
The Shaughnessys know our secret. They’ve allied with the feds to destroy the Italian Mafia and prove we’re blood demons. To prevent a war and protect our people, we plan our escape.
But Vito Balistreri—the infamous Valenzano enforcer—is an apex predator whose ruthless energy awakens my primal instincts, enticing the deviant parts of myself I buried long ago.
I have to remain in control, because what no one knows is that I’m just as deadly.
VITO
Power. Passion. Restraint. She’s the light in my darkness. I failed her once. I won’t fail her again.
War is brewing, and we’re on the front lines of the first battle. Against the Irish mob. Against the feds. Against anyone who’d persecute our people.
They don’t know it yet, but the men who kidnapped us are already dead. It’s just a matter of time.
I wait for the right moment to strike, because I can’t risk her safety. I’ve loved Gina DeVita for over half her life; I’ll do anything to protect her. Even if she thinks I’m a monster.

HER DARK PROTECTOR is the third book in the Bonded in Blood quartet. Each Paranormal Mafia Romance ends with an HEA, but the books are closely interconnected with an overarching series-wide plot.
Katelyn Brehm writes steamy Paranormal and Mafia Romance with mature characters and contemporary settings deeply rooted in our real world. Kat is a second-generation German-American and native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When she's not reading and writing or working on her vintage Romance cover and stepback collection, she works as an aerospace engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Kat lives in Pasadena, California with her husband and two cats, Mini Wheat and Pepper.
I’m not sure how these books keep getting better and better with each one but I am HERE FOR IT. This one is going down as my favourite from the series (so far) and it had me laughing, screaming, crying, and SWOONING. I love Vito and Gina so so much. Their story was beautiful. FULL RTC
_______________________
When Katelyn Brehm asks you to read her book early, you say yes. I had nothing more than a blurb to go off (plus the ending of Vendetta) with Vito and Gina’s story.. and boy oh boyyyyy was I in for a wild ride.
**These books should be read in order to best understand the plot lines. The relationships are their own, but the plot continues on throughout the series so certain parts from previous books will be important to know.
This book picks right back up where book 2 ended, and includes a heartbreaking, lovely past and present timeline to help you understand some of Vito and Gina’s twisted past. This is not a second chance romance, these two have been friends and colleagues for years, never more than that.
Truly this book was exciting, fun, hot hot hot, suspenseful, sad, and just all over a great time to read. I felt every emotion with these two, and they had me on the edge of my seat till the very end.
I just have to add in here that Katelyn can write something like a necessary FEED and make it sound hot. Daddy Vito™️ is SO DELICIOUS. And this man knows just what to say ALL THE TIME. His growly, possessive nature just really was the icing on the bloody demon cake. My FAVOURITE MMC so far! 🥵
A truly beautiful story about accepting yourself, learning to love yourself, and opening yourself up to love others for exactly who they are. For Vito, it was much the same. Accepting who you are and knowing your worth. It was beautiful to experience and read.
I am obsessed with these blood demons. I have been, and will continue to be. I can’t wait to see what KB has in store for me next because it’s promised to be HUGE. I can’t wait. These books will forever be something I took a chance on outside of my usual genre, and I don’t even want to think about having not read / listened to them.

Kidnapped and in danger leads Gina to face the truth she has denied for so long. I loved uncovering the history of these two and the trauma Gina has carried for so long. Gino is an alpha man that protects her no matter what she does or says and I love a man like that.
Just like the first two books, mafia meets demon is the unique twist that makes this series unique. It doesn’t get much better than an alpha demon mafia man. 😈
I listened to the audio and both Aiden Snow and Dani Soleil smashed their performance. Overall, I enjoyed this book and series.
Quick Summary Gina and Vito’s story what a ride. Their history.. the pain, the resilience, the quiet longing breaking my heart. Gina’s past is heavy and it shows on the page in the best, most authentic way. And Vito… his long life, his quiet heartbreak, and the way he’s watched her from afar because he never felt worthy. I was rooting for these two right up until the final chapters, fully invested, fully screaming at Gina to finally let go and step into who she truly is. Their journey was emotional, tender, and so worth it. I loved this book.
While Reading Thoughts 📕I loved hearing about their history and how they both came to the present 📕Gina has been through some tough stuff in her life and it is felt on the pages 📕Vito also had some moments in his long life and the way he has watched Gina from afar while never feeling good enough for her was heartbreaking 📕These 2 really got me rooting for them till the very last chapters, I was soo invested in their story 📕Screaming at Gina to just let go and embrace who she is 📕Loved this book

Let me shout it from the rooftops! ╰┈➤ˎˊ˗ THIS 👏🏻 WAS 👏🏻 SO 👏🏻 GOOD 👏🏻 Gina and Vito are everything!! I absolutely loved their dynamic and the slow burn, tension filled, desire was palpable. 🤌🏻🥵🫠 The spice in this one was quite exhilarating, very dangerous, and so so sexy. The vibes were dark, intense, and downright addictive. And who doesn’t love a good kidnapping?!? 😝
Huge thank you to Kat for sending me the ARC of Her Dark Protector! I swear every time I read one of your books I think “okay THIS is my favorite”… and then you go and top it again. A Love Forged in Darkness Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heat Level: 🔥🔥 Tear Drops: 💧💧 📚EBOOK📚 & 🎧AUDIO 🎧
I received both an ARC and an ALC of Her Dark Protector from the author through her ARC team, and I couldn't wait to return to the Bonded in Blood series. Having already listened to the first two books, I was familiar with the characters and the world, so diving back in felt like coming home.
This installment follows Gina and Vito, two blood demons caught in the middle of a brewing war between the Italian Mafia, the Irish mob, and the federal government. After being kidnapped, they must fight for their freedom while long-buried secrets begin to surface—especially those surrounding Gina's past and why she's spent years refusing to embrace her true power.
I'll admit that the timeline took me a little while to adjust to. The story moves between the present and multiple moments in the past, and at first I found myself trying to piece together exactly where we were. Once everything clicked, though, I became completely invested in Gina and Vito's journey.
I definitely recommend reading this series in order. While each couple gets their own happily ever after, there's an overarching storyline that continues throughout the books, and this one starts directly where the previous installment left off. You'll appreciate the characters and the bigger picture much more if you've followed the series from the beginning.
Vito was such a wonderful hero. He's spent decades protecting Gina from the shadows, carrying his feelings for her while believing she deserved better than someone like him. Gina, on the other hand, is carrying emotional scars that have kept her from embracing her abilities. Watching her slowly confront her past and rediscover her strength made for a really satisfying character arc.
This series has such a unique paranormal world. They're blood demons—not vampires—and I love how the supernatural elements blend seamlessly with the mafia setting. The action, danger, family loyalty, and romance all work together to create something that feels different from your typical paranormal romance. The romance itself isn't overly spicy, but there are a couple of steamy scenes that fit naturally into the story. The emotional connection and the suspense are really what drive this book.
I also recommend checking the trigger warnings before starting. Some sensitive subjects are discussed throughout the story, and while they weren't triggering for me personally, they were emotional enough to earn those two teardrops. There were definitely moments that made me tear up.
The narration by Aiden Snow and Dani Soleil was excellent. They both delivered emotional performances that brought Gina and Vito's story to life, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to them.
Overall, Her Dark Protector is another strong addition to the Bonded in Blood series. Once I found my footing with the timeline, I couldn't stop listening. If you enjoy paranormal mafia romance, protective heroes, hidden powers, found family, and a touch of suspense, I definitely recommend giving this series a try.
✨Her Dark Protector✨ by Katelyn Brehm Book 3 in the Bonded in Blood series
Spice Level: 🔥🔥/5
Besties… this one is mafia AND blood demons. Do I need to say more? I’m so freaking glad I saw @ceelovesbooks recommend this series. I’ve devoured the first two books of the series in one go and was then lucky enough to receive an ARC for this one. Vito has been Gina’s secret bodyguard for ages (literally) and has always felt drawn to her. Gina was a wild child in her early twenties, but a traumatic incident made her shut down this carefree side of her and she has ever since lived the lie of the boring, buttoned up and sophisticated lady. The two of them go through a LOT of traumatic events together in this book and that’s pretty much all I’m going to say because I don’t want to spoil anything. All that brings them close together, but Gina has to make the decision if she’s willing to bury her past once and for all in order to have the future she deserves with the man who loves her fiercely. I totally fell in love with Katelyn’s writing style! The character arc she created for Gina really was a beautiful thing to see and had my heart aching so many times throughout the book. And the spice… omg the spice!! Two blood demons with supernatural strength going at it?! Do I need to say more? I want more more more! If you’re into mafia romance with a splash of paranormal, this whole series is a must read. I can’t wait for the next and final book!
I received an early copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
✨ ARC Review ✨ I’m officially calling it—Vito Balistreri just ruined every other book boyfriend for me. 💀🖤
After the first two books, I thought I knew what to expect, but Katelyn Brehm just went and leveled up everything. This story is freaking intense and so gritty that I forgot to breathe half the time.
We finally get the full story of Vito and Gina, and let me tell you—the 50-year-old tension between them is enough to make you lose your mind. Vito is the ultimate shadow; he’s been protecting Gina forever, but it’s not that "sweet" kind of protection. It’s dark, it’s primal, and it’s a little bit terrifying. He’s a total predator when it comes to her, and I am here for every second of it!
Gina isn’t just a "mafia princess" waiting to be saved. She’s got teeth. She’s spent her life in this dangerous world, and she’s just as deadly and stubborn as the men around her. Seeing her push Vito to his limits was my favorite part.
Tropes you’ll find here:

The spice is 🌶️🌶️🌶️—it’s raw, it’s gritty, and the payoff is everything. I went in blind and came out completely obsessed. If you want a book that’s going to make you stay up all night, this is the one.
Katelyn, thanks for this story. After Vito, I am officially and completely fallen for the Blood Demons world! 🩸🔥
This is book 3 in a closely interconnected Series and it drops on June18th, 2026. When I started this Journey of Blood Demons and Mafia I was curious what to expect but now in Book 3 I am totally in love with these not Vampires. Morally Grey, possesive MMC , Touch her and die vibes and slow burn and I am definatly in. Thanks again Katelyn Brehm for having me on your ALC Team it means so much to me. The Begining throws you in right were Book 2 His dark Vendetta left off. Which is good because yes I was to hungry to find out what happened to Gina de Vita and Vito Balistreri. When those two are kidnapped by the Shaughnessy to reveal their secret it gets bad. Their captures are cruel but in the silent moments we learn a lot about Gina and Vito and their pasts and we get a lot of questionmarks thrown at us. Like how old is Vito really and what is it about Gina.? This kept me on the edge to find out and I again did not do well at the one more chapter Phrase. This is truely a slow burn and the tension is so good. Two Blood demons that fall for eachother slowly over centuries even is really something. This is an ALC so we need to talk narration : Like in the books before the 2 MCs are voiced by Dani Soleil and Aiden Snow. Again these two gave these characters so much deepth and authenticy. I need to point out Dani Soleil outstanding performance yet again. She already got me bad with her performance of Siobhan in Book 2 but the way she voiced the older Gina de Vita made me gasp in Awe. Her voice was so special when voicing Gina it caught me offguard it was so different to Anna and Siobhan in the prior books that she kept me guessing if that is really her. Thats talent Dani. Also Aiden did an incredible job with voicing Vito. He totally upped his performance with Vito. And of course we end on a cliffhanger. I strongly recommend to listen to Book 1+2 before you dive into this one.
I am so hopelessly obsessed with these blood demons. Every single book becomes my new favorite, and yet somehow Gina and Vito have stolen my heart completely.
Her Dark Protector follows mafia princess Gina and her fiercely loyal protector, Vito, as they’re held hostage in an Irish mob safehouse while battling their captors, the feds, and centuries of unrequited love, guilt, and shame. At its heart, this is a story about two broken people learning to accept themselves and realizing they are worthy of love, forgiveness, and a future together.
What I love most about this series is how cinematic it feels. Reading and listening to these books is like watching an action movie unfold in your head. The danger, the suspense, the high-stakes confrontations, the emotional punches, it all plays out so vividly that I forget I’m reading and feel like I’m watching the story happen in real time.
The audiobook only amplified that experience.
Dani Soleil and Aiden Snow were absolutely perfect casting choices. Dani brought Gina’s vulnerability, strength, and heart to life in a way that had me laughing one moment and crying the next. Every emotion felt raw and authentic, making it impossible not to root for this matriarch.
And Aiden Snow? Good grief. His deep, gravelly voice was made for Vito. He captured every ounce of Vito’s devotion, protectiveness, and longing. This man is hands-down one of my favorite book boyfriends ever. I swear I wanted to climb into the story and volunteer as tribute. Feed from me, Vito. 😂
This series continues to deliver the perfect blend of paranormal romance, mafia intrigue, action, heartache, and swoon-worthy devotion. I already know I’m going to be emotionally unwell when the final book arrives.
Actually, I can’t wait for the final audiobook, but I also don’t want this series to end.
This is definitely body guard falls die the princess. He’s loved her since the minute he saw her all those years ago. He’s watched her go through so much pain and growth, all while dating over people. He never thought he’d have the chance to love her the way he wanted and she deserved. When he gets that chance he has to be the one to step back and tell her that he deserves so much more than what she’s giving. It’s that moment that she realizes what she’s been doing the entire time. But can she win him back?
The audio was done in duel narration by Aiden Snow and Dani Soleil. They were so perfect together for this. I won’t lie and say it was my favorite of the books, bc it wasn’t, but it was definitely an awesome book. I’m so glad he finally was brought into the light of things. He deserved it, and Aiden was the most perfect voice for him!!! Aiden and Dani did absolutely amazing!
Her Dark Protector is a wonderful gateway into paranormal or fantasy romance. The worldbuilding is smooth and accessible, making it perfect for readers dipping their toes into the genre. The vampires blend seamlessly into modern life, and I particularly loved the presence of an older, complex heroine. It’s a fantastic stepping stone into a world of intrigue. Highly recommend if you are wanting to try paranormal/fantasy.
Her Dark Protector by Katelyn Brehm—narrated beautifully by Aiden Snow and Dani Soleil—was everything I had hoped for and so much more. Having caught glimpses of Gina as the protective mother figure to the men in the previous two books, getting her full story and watching her finally give in to her true love was deeply satisfying. I thought I knew what to expect from this series, but the author completely leveled up with a plot that picks up right where the last book left off. It is incredibly intense, dark, and so gritty that I genuinely forgot to breathe half the time.
At the heart of this wild, addictive ride is the staggering, 50-year tension between Vito and Gina. Vito is the ultimate shadow, but his lifelong protection of Gina isn't sweet—it is dark, primal, and terrifyingly predatory. Yet, Gina is no mere mafia princess waiting to be saved. She is just as deadly and stubborn as the men around her, possessing a fierce inner beast that she unleashes to push Vito to his absolute limits. When the pair find themselves held prisoner by the Shaughnessys and the feds, they must plan an escape to prevent an all-out war against those trying to prove they are blood demons.
What makes this story stand out so brilliantly is their dynamic; this isn't a case of light meeting dark, but rather power meeting power. They are equals in every sense—two predators with electric, raw chemistry. A uniquely intoxicating layer is added to their relationship when they are forced to feed on each other to survive and regain their strength, making their bond feel deeply intimate and dangerous. The emotional weight of the book is elevated by watching their past and present unfold side by side, making Vito’s decades of restraint and silent, obsessive devotion hit so much harder.
The action is equally unforgettable, particularly a thrilling scene where Gina fully unleashes her inner power to save Vito from Rory. That moment was powerful, though juxtaposed beautifully with Siobhán’s heartbreaking reaction, and I was surprised by how much emotional investment I ended up having in Vinnie. Ultimately, Vito completely stole the show with his fierce, protective nature. From beginning to end, this emotionally gripping book pulled me in and simply refused to let go.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In this third book, although it was just as good as the previous ones, it felt very different to me. For me, it has been the best so far I think it hit me on a deeper level. While, like in the others, we still have mafia elements, what stood out the most to me was the acceptance journey of both characters, especially Gina. Also, this story felt more mature at least to me because of the themes it explores.
● For me, Gina had incredible growth. I loved seeing her in that “scolding mom” mode someone who worries about her family and helps everyone but also discovering her past, more rebellious, joyful, and mischievous side. Her acceptance journey made me emotional.
● I loved seeing Vito with Gina and noticing the difference between him with her and him as a consigliere and part of the mafia. Seeing how attentive and protective he always was, constantly helping her accept herself, and doing it all without expecting anything in return. And that moment when he realized he also deserved someone who would love him completely I feel like that was so necessary for his character growth.
I think the timeline of the story was perfect. I was able to understand the plot better thanks to the past perspectives. Maybe I would have liked to know a bit more about Vito’s past, although I don’t think it was necessary. The development of the story was perfect. I felt connected to the story and the characters the entire time. Learning more about the Blood Demons and their abilities was a plus. I think the spicy scenes were perfect not too much, not too little, but definitely hot and sensual.
I love everything about the foundation and the immigrant theme. I think it’s such an important topic that is rarely explored in books. I feel like this book will be a favorite for many not just because of the themes it touches on, but also because of the plot. You get a bit of everything here, and you’ll feel all the emotions. I’ll tell you later which scene was my favorite 😅👙🫣
Remember to always check your triggers before reading. This one felt a bit darker.
✨️Thanks, Kate, for writing all these incredible stories and giving me the opportunity to read and be part of it before everyone else
First, a huge thank you to Katelyn Brehm for providing me with an Advanced Listener Copy of this audiobook! Her Dark Protector delivers exactly what I've come to expect from the Bonded in Blood series—danger, passion, loyalty, and plenty of paranormal mafia intrigue. This installment places Gina and Vito front and center, and their story is packed with tension from the very first chapter. Vito has spent decades watching over Gina from the shadows, and that history creates a fascinating dynamic between them. Their connection feels layered and emotional, especially as they find themselves trapped together while war brews around them. The protective instincts, possessiveness, and unwavering devotion were some of my favorite aspects of this story. I also loved seeing Gina come into her own. She's far more than someone in need of rescuing, and discovering just how deadly she can be added another layer to her character. The push and pull between her need for control and Vito's need to protect her created plenty of chemistry and suspense. The world-building continues to expand as the conflict between the mafia families, federal agents, and blood demons intensifies. While this book delivers a satisfying HEA for Gina and Vito, readers should definitely start at the beginning of the series because the overarching storyline continues to build toward what promises to be an explosive finale. 🎙️ Narration Review Aiden Snow was absolutely made for dark, possessive heroes. His deep, commanding voice brought Vito's protective nature and ruthless edge to life perfectly. Dani Soliel did a wonderful job portraying Gina's strength, vulnerability, and fierce determination. Together, they created an engaging listening experience that enhanced both the emotional moments and the high-stakes action. If you enjoy paranormal romance with mafia elements, obsessive protectors, dangerous heroines, and an ongoing series plot, this one is worth adding to your TBR. 📚 Tropes 🩸 Paranormal Mafia Romance 🖤 Touch Her & Die 🩸 Protective Hero 🖤 Obsessive/Devoted Hero 🩸 Forbidden Love 🖤 Slow-Burn Tension 🩸 Forced Proximity 🖤 Dual POV This series keeps getting darker, more dangerous, and more addictive, and I'm definitely ready to see where Katelyn Brehm takes readers next.
How is this series getting better with every single book?
Her Dark Protector might just be my favourite in the Bonded in Blood series so far. Katelyn Brehm has taken everything I loved about the first two books—the paranormal mafia world, the family dynamics, the danger, the emotion—and somehow raised the stakes even higher.
Vito and Gina’s story absolutely owned me. Spanning decades of longing, loyalty, sacrifice, and secrets, their relationship felt deeply earned. The dual timeline beautifully revealed the layers of their shared history, making every present-day moment hit that much harder. This wasn’t a story built on instant attraction—it was built on years of devotion, protection, and feelings left unspoken.
Katelyn’s writing continues to shine. She balances high-stakes suspense with emotional vulnerability so effortlessly. One moment my heart was breaking, the next I was smiling, and then suddenly holding my breath as the danger escalated. Beneath all the blood demon chaos and mafia politics is a genuinely moving story about self-acceptance, knowing your worth, and allowing yourself to be loved exactly as you are.
And once again, the audiobook narration was phenomenal.
Aiden Snow was born to voice Vito. He brings a quiet intensity, unwavering devotion, and protective edge that made every scene feel richer. You can hear decades of love and restraint woven into his performance. Dani Soleil gives Gina so much warmth, strength, and emotional depth. She perfectly captures both Gina’s vulnerability and the fierce woman beneath it.
Together, they don’t just narrate the story—they immerse you in it.
This series is one of those rare discoveries that completely takes you by surprise and refuses to let go. Three books in and I’m more obsessed than ever. The world, the characters, the overarching story—I honestly don’t want it to end.
If you’ve been following this series from the beginning, prepare yourself. Vito and Gina’s story is beautiful, emotional, thrilling, and unforgettable.
This book completely pulled me in and didn’t let go. Picking up right where the previous book left off. Dark, intense, and emotionally gripping, Vito and Gina’s story is a wild, addictive ride from beginning to end.
What makes this story stand out is their dynamic, this isn’t light vs dark, this is power meeting power. Two blood demons. Two predators. Equals in every sense. The chemistry between them is electric, raw, and impossible to ignore. And the feeding…
The fact that they had to feed on each other to survive and regain strength added such a unique and intoxicating layer to their relationship. It was intimate, dangerous, and so addictive. What truly elevated this story for me was the emotional depth. Watching their past and present unfold side by side, especially knowing Vito had been watching over her for years like a shadow, made everything hit so much harder. Every moment between them carried weight, history, and longing.
One of my favorite scenes was when Gina saved Vito from Rory, that moment was unforgettable. Watching her fully unleash the beast within her was powerful and thrilling. But Siobhán’s reaction? Absolutely heartbreaking. And Vinnie… I didn’t expect to feel so much for him, but I really did.
Vito completely stole the show for me. That obsessive, protective devotion, built over years of restraint and silent longing? Irresistible. The only small drawback was the repeated emphasis on Gina being perfectly composed and elegant, it felt slightly overdone at times, especially during captivity, and some descriptions leaned a bit too wordy.
But overall, this book delivered everything : emotion, tension, passion, and darkness in the best way.
Her Dark Protector was a dark, intense paranormal mafia romance that kept me hooked from beginning to end. The combination of blood demons, organized crime, captivity, and looming war created a high-stakes atmosphere that made it difficult to stop listening.
Vito and Gina’s relationship was the heart of the story for me. The decades-long longing, protective obsession, and undeniable chemistry between them created plenty of tension. I especially enjoyed watching Gina embrace her own power rather than simply being someone who needed rescuing. Her strength and hidden darkness made her a compelling heroine, while Vito’s fierce loyalty and devotion added depth to his intimidating reputation.
The audiobook narration elevated the experience. Dani Soleil did an excellent job capturing Gina’s vulnerability, determination, and growing confidence, while Aiden Snow’s deep, commanding voice was a perfect fit for Vito’s protective and dangerous nature. Together, they brought the emotional intensity and chemistry to life, making the romance feel even more immersive.
What stood out most was the balance between the romance and the danger surrounding the characters. The constant threat of war, betrayal, and discovery kept the stakes high, while the emotional moments between Gina and Vito gave the story plenty of heart. Their connection felt earned, and I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve as they faced one challenge after another.
Overall, this was a captivating audiobook with strong characters, plenty of tension, and an engaging paranormal mafia world. The excellent narration, compelling romance, and suspenseful storyline made for a very enjoyable listening experience, and I’ll definitely be continuing the series.
Every time I finish a Bonded in Blood book, I swear it's my favorite, and then she immediately proves me wrong with the next one. Her Dark Protector completely consumed me.
I've been waiting for Gina and Vito's story since book one, and it somehow exceeded every expectation I had. The tension between these two after decades of history was absolutely delicious. Watching their past and present unfold together made every moment hit harder, especially knowing Vito has spent all these years protecting Gina while loving her from the shadows.
And Vito? Yeah, I get it now.
The man is loyal, protective, patient, terrifying when necessary, and so completely devoted to Gina that I spent most of this audiobook alternating between swooning and wanting to scream at them to get their lives together.
Speaking of the audiobook... Aiden Snow absolutely owned this role. That man could narrate a DMV handbook and I'd listen. Every ounce of Vito's intensity, devotion, protectiveness, and barely restrained emotions came through perfectly. Pair him with Dani Soleil, who brought so much heart and strength to Gina, and this audiobook became impossible to pause.
What surprised me most was how emotional Gina's journey was. Underneath all the blood demons, kidnappings, mafia drama, violence, and chaos is a story about learning to accept yourself again. Watching Gina reclaim the parts of herself she'd buried for so long hit me right in the feelings when I least expected it.
I loved the flashbacks. I loved the family dynamics. I loved the action, the suspense, the twists, and the way this world keeps getting bigger with every book. And somehow I am now emotionally attached to basically every character.
This series has become one of my favorite audiobook obsessions, and by the time it ended I was immediately ready to harass Katelyn for book four.
Infinite stars.
Thank you to Katelyn Brehm for the ALC. All opinions are my own.
🖤 Review of Her Dark Protector by Katelyn Brehm🩸 ALC Review of Advanced Copy Received from Author
She sees him as “Her Dark Protector”🖤 He calls her, “La Mia Luce” — “My Light”🤍
Katelyn Brehm has done it again in this FANTASTIC Paranormal Dark Mafia Romance 🖤🩸
Aiden Snow and Dani Soliel are amazing as always ❤️ LOVED the narration, the bits of Italian thrown in were narrated IMPECCABLY 🤌🏻😘 and just brought me “back home” to my roots — made be feel like I was at my Nana’s kitchen table for Sunday lunch.
I thought I was in love with this Mafia world after book 2… BUT y’all!… I was NOT prepared for this dynamic relationship in book 3!
The tension and yearning 🥵🔥 It was absolutely a build up and had previously been hinted at but this book was Gina and Vito’s time to SHINE and SHINE they did!
I absolutely ADORED the Dual POV that was ALSO a Dual timeline 😍😍 I loved getting to experience both Gina and Vito’s perspectives but also seeing both their current narrative and re-live their past experiences and emotions! — I also appreciated how in some of the flashbacks Brehm would give the opposite POV of the same interaction so that you were able to feel the emotional impact of BOTH sides! 🖤🤍
I especially enjoyed the undertones of their mental health journey and road to self acceptance, and when they acknowledged that they needed to accept who they were themselves before they’d be able to accept one another! — Gina’s journey to self acceptance was written fantastically, it felt so realistic; like you were riding that emotional rollercoaster 🎢 with her! Also, the purple bikini was fantastic!
This book was ALL about learning to LOVE and TRUST, not only each other but themselves too 🖤
This 5 🌟 read is one I was highly anticipating and it did NOT disappoint! 😍
✨️ALC Review✨️ OH VITO AND GINA!!! Absolutely 5🌟 Let's talk about it... Because MY HEART!!! After listening to Marco story, I needed to know what happened to Luca, AND THEN I'm hit with a cliffhanger at the end of the beautiful revenge turned love story with a kidnapping of Vito and Gina. Well, clearly, I NEED TO KNOW THINGS!!! Mama Gina, sister of the new Don of the Italian Mafia Marco and mother figure to Luca is the one kidnapped along with her bodyguard, her protector, the family lawyer, muscle and concierge to the Don Vito. Immediately... what doesn't this man do? Anyways, after getting kidnapped, Vito and Gina try to make the best out of the situation... Did I mention the kidnappers are Siobhan's (Luca's pregnant fiancée) family members working for the FEDS!!! STOP THE MADNESS!!! Ok... back to the story... whew! During their traumatic kidnapping experience, Vito tries to keep Gina occupied by and out of head as well as keep her from dying and from starving (Blood Demons IYKYK) Gina and Vito relive their past on a journey of realization of not only each other but themselves. This story goes 100 miles an hour as truths and secrets are revealed. Keeping each other alive as well as deepening feelings. Let me just say... VITO... the man is worthy of love!!! Gina took some time to realize she has ALWAYS been the light on his world, and sometimes darkness is beautiful, no matter how " broken" you are.
My heart broke, swooned, mended, and FINALLY, I was able to breathe. There was action, spice, and a true passion and strengthened behind their story. I. LOVED. EVERY. SECOND!!!
@katbrehmwrites... You did something here, and I thank you for letting me listen to this amazing story! I can't wait for the next book!

Katelyn Brehm... what is this emotional witchcraft?! 😭❤️
Every time I think this series can't get any better, she proves me wrong. Her Dark Protector completely wrecked me in the best possible way.
**Tropes** Mafia Princess Blood Demons Secret Bodyguard Unrequited Love Feeding that feels like... *more* 🫣👀
Can we talk about **Vito Balistreri** for a second? Because this man... this demon... this absolute GOD. 🥵😮💨 I am completely, hopelessly obsessed.
What made this story so unforgettable wasn't just the chemistry (which was off the charts), but the growth. Watching both Vito and Gina heal, change, and become the people they needed to be before finding each other made their love story feel so earned. Every emotional payoff hit that much harder because of everything they endured.
And speaking of emotions... this book does not pull its punches. The heartbreak is relentless, and I swear I was already sobbing within the first three minutes. 😅 Every chapter had me feeling something, and I was completely invested from beginning to end. It was an emotional roller coaster that I never wanted to get off.
🎧 The audiobook deserves every bit of praise. Aiden Snow and Dani Soleil absolutely crushed these performances yet again. They don't just narrate—they *become* these characters. Every emotion, every intense moment, every bit of tension came alive, and I could picture every single scene playing out like a movie.
I'm officially obsessed with this series, and somehow Katelyn Brehm keeps raising the bar. If you're looking for a paranormal romance that will break your heart, put it back together, and leave you swooning over an overprotective demon, this is one you absolutely cannot miss.
After being abducted outside a deli in Boston, Gina finds herself locked in a remote cabin with the man who has been keeping her safe for over half a century. While she revisits memories of their shared past, they struggle to keep the truth of what they are from the Irishmen keeping them prisoner. But Gina hides more than just the secret about blood demons, behind her perfect facade is a darkness she has only let out once before, with devastating consequences.
For over 60 years, Vito has kept his promise to keep Gina safe, but now as they find themselves locked away in a remote cabin, that is easier said than done. She has always been the light in his darkness, the sole focus of his love and devotion, if only she could see who he is beyond what he does for her brother’s organization. While he has always known who she is deep down, she has locked it away, and he knows that in order to escape their current situation, she might need to let her darkness out.
I received an early copy of this book from the author, and just like the others in the series, I loved it! While their blood demon status is an important part of the storyline, I love that it is not the main part, and this book seemed to be more focused on the fact that despite this crucial part of them, they aren’t so fundamentally different from humans. It was clear in the previous books how much Vito has always cared for Gina, but here we got to see how much deeper their connection goes. His love for her knows no bounds, and his ability to love every part of her is the only thing that could force her to be true to herself, and save them both.
🩸Blood Demons 💥Mafia Drama/Romance ❤️🩹Hurt/Comfort ❤️🔥He's Been Pining for Decades ⛓️Forced Proximity
Another stellar entry into the cinematic tinged paranormal mafia series! In this one we get such a beautiful way to discover Vito and Gina's past while also having it wrapped up in a ball of increasing drama and tension!
Vito is our dark protector, a confidant and friend to the DeVita family. He would do anything to uphold a promise, to keep Gina safe and to defend his friends. I love this man soooo much! He has such honor, but also respect for himself and knows all parts of him, demon and all, are worth loving too. There are shades of grey and that's ok.
Gina has to come to terms with a lot about herself, her nature, her past....and also come to realize the true feelings her stealthy bodyguard has harbored for her for decades.
I truly loved how we get flashbacks in this, as it kept the momentum pumping in a very kinetic way. And we see Marco and Luca and everyone else again and it just feels like the continuation of a grand family saga, frought with danger, suspense, and excitement! I loved getting hooked into such a strong plot and having the characters always the focus. It felt wholly original...the world, the mafia dealings and the unique history of our paranormally spun main characters. Yet even with that, they feel intensely human with their emotions; real and raw, wounded, and passionate.
Truly loved this couple and their love story that was a long time coming! I'm ready for the final chapter!
This book had a lot of good things going for it: gripping suspense, heart-stopping action (and a little bit of gore), delicious spice (🌶️🌶️🌶️), and of course, an addictive romance to swoon for. But more than that, what I enjoyed most about this book was that it was one man's story about his unconditional devotion to a woman he's loved for so long, and the FMC's own journey to loving her own self fully and unapologetically again.
The book makes us see how Vito, the MMC, has loved Gina right from the first moment they met, and all throughout more than a century without that love ever being made known, much mess reciprocated. We are also made to witness Gina's personal transformation from one version of herself that once brought her unfettered happiness and then ruin, to the version that she carefully curated and controlled so that the parts of herself she found shameful were buried. We see then how Vito's unconditional love and loyalty to her allowed her to finally realize that she can allow her true self to emerge again because all parts of her were important and worth loving. I love how despite the morally gray tones of the entire story, one message stood out: love's triumph over adversity makes it all worth it.
This series has been one amazing book after another. With a teaser on what the next book will be about, I can't wait to find out how the main characters in that book will achieve their own HEA and bring about the peace all blood demons aspire for.
I was granted a free and advanced review copy of this book. I offer this review voluntarily.
“I failed her once, and I would destroy this house and everyone in it before I let anything happen to her again.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ Her Dark Protector Katelyn Brehm
Bonded in Blood Series- Book 3
Narrated by Aiden Snow and Dani Soleil. I love these 2 narrators so much. There performances are always on point and get so excited when I get to listen to a book they bring to life.
Audio releasing 18 June 2026.
I love Gina and Vito and I am loving this series! I think Vito is one of my fav book boyfriends maybe ever. He is possessive and protective and destroy the world to keep her safe. The chemistry and connection they share is 🔥. Gina’s journey was an emotional one. She has been through a lot and her journey to accept and rediscover who she is was beautiful. This book was dark, addictive and dangerous. This series is a must read.
Words that Linger: 💡I haven’t eaten since lunch and trust me when I say you don’t want to see me hangry.
💡I failed her once, and I would destroy this house and everyone in it before I let anything happen to her again.
💡I can scent you in a crowded room.
💡I wanted to give her a reason to free herself, because she had given me a reason to breathe.
💡You’re beautiful, every part of you, you’re La Mia Luce. And when you let every part of yourself shine, your light is even brighter. I will let you be, but don’t dim your light again Gina, if you do, you are taking a gift away from the world.
Tropes: 🔫Paranormal 🔫Mafia Romance 🔫Unrequited Love 🔫Mafia Princess 🔫Secret Boyfriend
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Her Dark Protector by Katelyn Brehm completely captivated me from start to finish. As an audiobook, this story was even more immersive, pulling me deep into a world filled with danger, loyalty, forbidden desire, and supernatural intrigue.
Vito and Gina absolutely stole my heart. The chemistry between them was undeniable, but what I loved most was the depth of their connection. Vito has spent decades loving Gina from afar, carrying the weight of past failures while doing everything in his power to protect her. There was something incredibly emotional about watching him fight for her while struggling with his own darkness. Gina was equally compelling. She is strong, fierce, and far more dangerous than anyone realizes, which made her such a fascinating heroine to follow.
The blend of paranormal elements and mafia drama was perfectly balanced. The tension never let up as the threats from the Irish mob, the feds, and the looming war continued to escalate. Every chapter left me wanting more, and I found myself constantly looking for excuses to keep listening. The narrators did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life. They captured the emotions, intensity, and passion of the story so well that I felt completely immersed in every scene. Their performances added another layer of depth to an already incredible book.
Katelyn Brehm continues to build a rich and addictive world that keeps me invested in every character and every twist. Her Dark Protector delivered action, suspense, romance, and heart in all the best ways. If you love paranormal mafia romance with protective heroes, strong heroines, high stakes, and unforgettable chemistry, this audiobook is one you absolutely do not want to miss.
I have moved Katelyn’s Bonded in Blood series since the first book. I am so happy to finally see mature (40+) main characters. As much as I love the Romances that feature young love, and love in their 20s, there’s just something different once you pass 40.
Gina is like many women, maybe a bit wild in her youth but then takes on these unspoken expectations and tries to fit herself into a box that doesn’t quite fit and a bit too restrictive - she has good reasons, I completely understand her reaction. But for someone, who was so full of life, seeing them dull it is heartbreaking.
Vito, a man much older and life-weary, who has found purpose in protecting Gina - very bittersweet. I just wanted to give him a huge hug!
I love Katelyn’s world and how rooted it is, the locations and the fact that these first and second generation immigrants are speaking Italian - I think she has done a fantastic job to incorporate it and make it feel natural. I also know immigration is something that is dear and close to Katelyn as she has partnered with Immigration charities in the past - and it’s nice to see immigrants not being villified.
As always, I loved this story and I cried at several points. I can’t wait for book 4, it’s going to be a highly anticipated release for me.
If you’re into paranormal romance, Mafia romance and like mature couples, Katelyn is absolutely an author for you!
Her Dark Protector picks up right where His Dark Vendetta ended - dealing with the aftermath of the deli shooting in Cosa Nostra territory, and the kidnapping of Gina and Vito.
Vito has been linked to the DeVita family for decades, as their confidant, consigliere, and friend. He has taken his duty to protect the family, and specifically Gina, seriously. Vito has an amazing amount of self-respect and love for himself, and knows what he is worthy of - blood demon and all.
Gina has been keeping parts of herself locked away for decades, leading to shame about her true identity. She has been the picture of poise and grace, and a loving sister, mother and friend, however she doesn’t extend the same kindness to herself.
During their in captivity, Vito keeps his vow to be her protector, but he also tries to help her find and own all the parts that she’s ashamed of. In time, Gina realizes she can fully embrace herself, and is worthy of love.
This book ... the hold it had on me while reading was intense. I have loved Gina throughout the first two books, and finally seeing parts of her past, helped me to understand her more. And Vito ... this man has my whole heart! I truly enjoyed seeing the story unfold between these two, with their history, and that they were both blood demons. Kat did a fantastic job - and I can’t wait for the audio to go live so I can relive the fear, tension, and those spicy scenes again!
5 stars ... all the way!!! Thank you, Kat for an advanced copy!
Dark, addictive, emotional, sexy, tense, heartbreaking, and impossible to put down.
I am officially OBSESSED with this world.
Her Dark Protector completely consumed me from start to finish, and honestly? My only regret is that work/real life kept interrupting my reading time because all I wanted was to stay locked inside this story until the very last page.
Vito and Gina were/are EVERYTHING.
After loving the first books in this series, I didn’t think Katelyn Brehm could make me feel even more attached to these characters and this universe, but somehow she did. Getting Vito and Gina’s story felt so rewarding because the tension, history, and connection between them has been simmering in the background for so long. And wow… it delivered.
What I loved most is that this wasn’t insta-love or second chance romance. This was years of loyalty, restraint, protection, longing, pain, and devotion finally breaking open. The past and present timelines worked SO well here because every reveal added another layer to their relationship and made everything hit harder emotionally.
And Vito Balistreri? Absolutely ruined me.
This man is possessive, morally grey(every shade of grey), dangerous, devoted, terrifyingly protective, and somehow still deeply emotional underneath all that brutality. The way he loves Gina is intense in the best possible way. Not soft. Not sweet. Just completely consuming “I would destroy the world for you without hesitation” energy. Vito Balistreri lives in my brain rent free now.
Gina was equally incredible to read about. She isn’t just some mafia princess waiting to be saved. No, she pushes back, fights for herself, and has such a beautiful emotional journey throughout the book. Watching her reconnect with parts of herself she buried after trauma genuinely made my heart ache. Her growth felt raw, mature, and so beautifully written.
And the chemistry between them? jkadfhsduhfoshkjas INSANE.
The feeding scenes were somehow intimate, dangerous, emotional, and ridiculously hot all at once. The spice in this book was top tier for me because it actually meant something emotionally and every scene seemed to deepen their connection.
I also loved getting to see familiar characters again. There’s something so satisfying about returning to this universe and reconnecting with characters from previous books while still getting a fresh story that stands strongly on its own. The world feels layered, immersive, dangerous, and alive.
This book had EVERYTHING: Blood demons Mafia romance Obsessive devotion Secret bodyguard Hurt/comfort Forced proximity High tension & danger Emotionally charged spice Powerful FMC + morally grey MMC
Katelyn Brehm really created something special with this series, and I genuinely cannot wait to see where this world goes next.
Big thanks to Katelyn Behm and BookFunnel for providing me with an ARC-Copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Edited on 18th June 2026 to add:
I was fortunate enough to also receive an ALC, and I absolutely fell in love with the finished product.
Both narrators, Dani Soleil and Aiden Snow, did an incredible job bringing Vito and Gina to life. They perfectly captured the intensity, longing, devotion, heartbreak, and chemistry that made me so obsessed with their story. Listening to their performances made every emotional moment hit even harder and added another layer of depth to an already immersive experience.
The tension felt sharper, the emotions felt more raw, and the connection between Vito and Gina felt even more real. From the vulnerable moments to the explosive ones, the narrators completely pulled me into the story and refused to let go.
This was already a five-star read for me, but the audiobook experience somehow elevated it even further.
I’m so grateful for that amazing experience! Big thanks to the author and BookFunnel for the ALC in exchange for my honest opinion.
