USA Today bestselling author Marni Mann brings an angsty, tortured heroine, billionaire romance to the sizzling conclusion of the Weston Group Series ...
Get ready for Eden Weston's story. Full blurb to come.
USA Today Bestselling author Marni Mann knew she was going to be a writer since middle school. While other girls her age were daydreaming about teenage pop stars, Marni was fantasizing about penning her first novel. She crafts sexy, titillating stories that weave together her love of darkness, mystery, passion, and human emotions. A New Englander at heart, she now lives in Sarasota, Florida, with her husband and their Yellow Lab. When she’s not nose deep in her laptop, working on her next novel, she’s scouring for chocolate, sipping wine, traveling, or devouring fabulous books.
The way that this book gripped me by the throat and wouldn’t let go til the bitter end. Like when I tell you, I love sleep with this book. I was so hooked from the start that I didn't want to put this book down. I had to physically extract my kindle from my hands. But let me tell you something, the lack of sleep was so worth it because this book was everything I knew it would be and so much more. Eden's story is heavy and I knew it would be with how her brother's were so protective of her. The trauma that she experienced and the PTSD that she lives with every day, holy moly is it heavy. But she's so incredibly strong. How she stands tall every day to take back her power and say a big "F" you to the one who once took it away.
I absolutely adored Eden and honestly I couldn't have chosen as better match for her than Troy. The way that man WAITED for her. He knew she was worth the wait. He knew that with time she would lower those walls. And this man waited YEARS and he would have continued to wait, if it meant that end result would be to make Eden his. Can you say SWOON! Like this man was patient. He facilitated a safe and healing environment for her. And the way that these two were connected in ways Eden never knew.
Marni, you truly saved the best for last. What an incredible way to end an incredible series.
Audiobook girlies: the audiobook is DUAL NARRATION by Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor and they did an amazing job at delivering the tension and angst. Samantha is one of my favorite female narrators for dual narration because she does truly do any amazing job at differentiating male and female voices.
A story with substance, with usual flair and engaging prose, the path it takes, still took my breath away. I went in believing I'd have my ears and face read with dirty talk, juicy sex that lasts pages...what I didn't expect was to cry so hard in this book!! Hardcore sentiments creeped up on me from the left and I didn't see them coming and impacting me with force. Eden is stoic, serious and a workaholic. There's a reason why...... And the reason tore me to shreds. I bawled during her ordeal and my heart wept for her. Her knight in shining armor tho, is just a warm hand hold away
“I promise you, somehow........everything will be okay ”
Marni has created many a sexy, swoony billionaires, but out of all of them, Troy Weston might be the BESTEST! He not only is successful in the world professionally, but he carries the biggest heart, which beats only for Eden. It has been for years.....
“I won't disappoint you...........in all aspects”
Never has a hero meant every word so emphatically, diligently. Troy weston is stuff besotted protective alphas are made of and he envelops Eden in his world giving her a safe place to thrive & flourish in. Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor have done an outstanding job of narration. “5 stars for baby steps and visual protection ” Follow me on: Email🌻 Bookbub 🌻 Twitter🌻 Instagram🌻 Blog🌻 Facebook🌻 Amazon 🌻 TikTok 🌻 StoryGraph 🌻 YouTube 🌻
Eden and Troys story is one for the ages, i loved every single one of the brothers stories but this one blows them all out of the water.
We knew from the start that Eden was hurt deeply in the past, we also could have guessed what had happened to her based on her not trusting or wanting to be around other men and it was so horrific and heart breaking that i cant praise Marni enough how well she written this and how she made Eden stronger and fiercer than all her brothers combined.
We also could have guessed that Troy has a dark past too based on the fact that he grew up in foster care, he also went through so much before he saw the light at the end on the tunnel.
What i did not see coming was how entwined their pasts really were and how deeply Troy has been hurt by Edens past (you need to read it to understand).
This story is all about how to love after major trauma. I loved seeing Eden come out of her shell, how she overcame her grievances in order to give her and Troy the best possible chance to succed.
Marni knocked it out of the park again with this series and i cant wait for the series that comes next.
Grab your tissues because Marni takes you through the emotions with this one starting with the dedication! I knew Eden's story was going to be tragic but I was not prepared for the heaviness of it all. It was gripping and emotional and her story is so empowering because of the strength she shows throughout her journey. I am crying writing this review. I will never forget this story.
Eden Weston is the strongest character I think I have ever read. We knew that she had gone through something because of how her brothers have guarded and protected her throughout this series. As pieces of her story unfold my heart completly crumbled for her. And then Troy shows up and his steady presence draws her in. If a character could win an award for patience this man would win by a landslide. YEARS! This man stands one the sideline for years slowing letting her get to know him in any capacity she is willing to give him. It was going to be her or no one. Troy became her safe space and eventually the person she ran to when she needed someone. I have read a lot of books by Marni and I think its safe to say this is by far my favorite. Absolutely incredible.
AUDIO: This is narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais. These two were AMAZING. This was a very emotional and heart wrenching story and they were so believable. They took us on an emotional rollercoaster and I was blown away. They elevated every moment and brought it to life. SO GOOD!

Thank you Marni and Valentine PR for this ARC and ALC!
BOOK BESTIES… I AM NOT OKAY. 😭💔 This is hands down one of the MOST EMOTIONAL books Marni Mann has EVER written.
I have loved all the Weston brothers' stories, but EDEN AND TROY?! THEY BLEW THEM ALL OUT OF THE WATER.
First off, EDEN WESTON. MY GIRL. 🥹 The strength this woman has after everything she's been through?! My heart absolutely SHATTERED for her. She's a survivor, a fighter, and genuinely one of the strongest FMCs I've ever read.
And TROY?! THIS MAN IS A WALKING GREEN FLAG. 💚😭 The patience, the understanding, the way he waited YEARS without ever pushing her?! He became her safe place, and I was DONE.
“I’m a mess, Troy.” “I want you to be my mess. Show me your mess.”
EXCUSE ME?! MY HEART. 😭
Two people with heartbreaking pasts finding love and healing in each other?! I WAS SOBBING.
But BOOK BESTIES… THAT ENDING?! OMFG. I LEGIT DID NOT SEE IT COMING. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. 😭
💚 Patient & Protective MMC 🤍 Survivor FMC 💚 He Falls First 🤍 Hurt x Comfort 💚 Emotional Healing 🤍 Found Family
ALL THE DAMN STARS. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Marni, you OUTDID yourself.
📚The Forbidden One by Marni Mann 🎤Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais
DUAL NARRATION 4.5 ⭐
Thanks to Marni Mann and Valentine PR for advanced copies of the ARC and ALC. Also for the opportunity to be on Marni's tea🫶🏻 All thoughts are my own.
If you've been following the Weston Brothers, then you KNOW we've all been waiting for Eden's story and WOW, WOW, WOW! Marni packs a big emotional punch with this one ya'll. BIG! This book has some incredible substance to it that had me gripped to my earbuds the entire time. It's devestating at times, real, raw and emotional but this book just might be my favorite of the series because of that! I loved this one and I loved Troy and Eden!
Not only is Troy Weston a sexy, successful billionaire but this man carries the biggest heart one could have. His heart beats for Eden and EDEN ALONE and has for years and now it's finally time to let her know it.
We've known from the beginning that Eden carries a heavy past. Also could assume what happened to her based on her inability to trust men and lack of desire to be with them. What we find out about her is absolutely heartbreaking but Marni handled this delicate topic SO well, so believably and honestly and Eden comes out of this empowered and stronger than ever and I loved this about the story.
Even though Troy is filled with nothing but love, he's had his fair share of hurt and darkness as well. What I wasn't expecting was how connected these two really were, how their pasts really were already entwined with each other. Eden hasn't been the only one hurting because of her past, Troy has carried the hurt as well.
Guys, this is a book about learning to trust, love and connect after trauma. It's done SO well. I loved every minute with these two characters. Loved watching Eden come into her own and find herself and love again. Troy's patience, understanding and love was honestly EVERYTHING!!!! 🥹Troy gives Eden a safe place to land and come back to life. Gah! I loved it.
🎤Let's talk audio: Guys, it's CRAISMOOR so ya know, it's INCREDIBLE! These two just deliver time and time again and especially in this audio. There are so many emotional and tender scenes that Samantha and Connor just crushed. The audio was absolutely OUTSTANDING! They deliver on the tension and angst like pros! Their performances made me feel all the feelings and the emotional rollercoaster they take you on is wonderful. Truly! I loved every minute of this audio ya'll. Go listen to it and don't wait!
Marni's writing is so good in this! I love her books because every one of them is laced with an emotional layer that you're not quite expecting and it ends up kinda punching you in the gut in the best way! I'm honestly sad this series is over but I can't wait for her next one!!!
✨Please, please protect yourself and check your triggers before going into this one.
This book follows Eden, one of the Weston siblings. Eden was hurt, badly in the past, it shaped her into the human is is now. For her siblings she is the fixer, but personally she is broken. When she is set up to work long hours with Troy for a business deal the Weston groups is undertaking, he is managing to get behind her though exterior little by little. The reveal that follows however is not something Eden expected. Eden has been a strong character throughout this whole series. I've loved her from the first time she made an appearance. I was very happy to get to read her story. It did not disappoint. I loved reading her story. It was an emotional and devastating story and it is a small miracle that Eden was still standing. Troy can only be described as the most patient man on earth. He is so kind, gentle and patient. The way he took his time for Eden to get to him. 100% golden retriever vibes. The whole backdrop for this book was yet again well thought out my Marni. Like in previous books, there is some sort of business deal the Weston Groups plans and in this book we had multiple. I loved the combination of this, the emotional side and the romance between Eden and Troy. This book was one with a heavy theme. On one hand I absolutely loved it. It explained why Eden is always so thought, but on the other hand I think that, after the reveal, it is a bit to clean. I expected some more struggles or setbacks after that. It now felt that her problems were mostly diminished. I did loved that she found a romantic partner that she could trust. I really wanted that for her.
Audio book – 5 stars
This book is narrated by Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor and let me tell you, they did an spectacular job. All the emotion these two threw into portraying their characters is so amazing! They made me feel all the feelings! They manage to bring us into an emotional roller coaster and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Anything Marni Mann writes, I read because she's just a genius when it comes to this trope.
I think that the author did an amazing job with leaving Eden's story for last. Although I prefer the men's POV, I have to say that the FMC in this story was unbelievable. She was strong, independent and all about her family. She lived to make her brothers' happy and loved working with them. She dedicated her life to them and to their businesses, but there has to come a time when she needs to think about herself and what her personal life should lead to. Troy has been a family friend who has had his eye on Eden and he knows that she has her walls up so high that he is thinking of ways to knock them down. He is willing to do whatever it takes to win this woman's heart. As they start working together, he realizes that there is more to Eden than he thought.
The way their love story unfolded was amazing. It took Eden time to get to know Troy very well and she knew that he was courting her, but she had to make sure nothing would make her disbelieve in men again.
Infinity stars and the perfect way to wrap up the Westons! I think we all had a feeling that Eden’s book would be an emotional one, but this was full of surprises I definitely hadn’t anticipated and I literally cannot stop thinking about them. Troy is down so bad for Eden, but also aware that her walls are sky high and she has no plans to let them down for any man. However, he is patient, caring, and so willing to wait for her to be ready. I was literally swooning at how precious he is and how much he loves her.
And the audiobook = chef’s kiss! Samantha Brentmoor & Connor Crais performed this in dual narration and they were perfect as Eden & Troy. Every single emotion from these characters came through in the audio and it was so much more emotional. I’m so thankful I was able to do an immersive read of this book because it made me love them so much more.
What to expect: -billionaire romance -alpha hero -angsty -it’s always been you -cinnamon roll mmc -he falls first -found family -wounded heroine -forced proximity
Savannah Brentmoor & Connor Crais, in dual narration, bring us on a dark, emotional ride with The Forgotten One. You can feel the connection and emotions of the characters. Thank you both for such an amazing audiobook. The two of you are some of the best!!
Marni has delivered us perfection!! This book is full of emotional, heartbreaking twists and turns. I thought I had read the best bad ass FMC before, but I was wrong! Eden is the true definition of a Bad Ass FMC!! I just love Troy ❤️ He found his person at first sight. He is a protector. He is gentle. He is patient. He has a broken past. He is the perfect man for Eden!! They heal each other in a way most people only ever read about!
🥂Cheers to Marni for an amazing book. 🥂Cheers to Troy and Eden for the perfect HEA! 🥂Cheers to Samantha and Connor for delivering us an amazing audiobook!!
Thank you VPR for this amazing opportunity to listen to an ALC of this book!! ❤️❤️
Book 5 in the Weston series we finally get Eden’s book and I’m not going to lie this was better than i thought it was going to be.
Eden and Troy story blew me away we all know that Eden had suffered a trauma but to find out the whole story was a tough read at time but Marni has written this perfectly covering a very hard topic.
I’m shocked to see how Troy’s story was so intwined with Eden’s see them working through it together made my heart sore the love that Troy has for Eden 💓 it just mad my heart melt.
Even better seeing the other Weston boy’s is always a treat but seeing there sister move on in her life and them so happy for Eden and Troy 😘
Can’t wait for the next series we got a glimpse of the three brothers, Tristan first his is going to be an age gap can’t bloody wait.
This one wrecked me and I'm still thinking about it hours after finishing. The way I was invested in watching their intertwined stories unfold, had me frozen still and gasping in the middle of a store while shopping. Make sure to read the TW's before diving in, but it's definitely worth the emotionally beautiful journey!
This book is so different from any other of Marni’s book! It’s the slowest of burns and with so few spicy scenes. But it’s such a powerful and emotional story and I’ve loved it with all my heart. Troy is the epitome of the green flags and one of the best MMCs I’ve ever read! The growth and evolution of Eden is incredible! The perfect closure for this series!
Take my breath away! This was such a difficult story that it literally will put you in a chock hold. A catastrophic event that led to an array of emotions that poured out of the pages . Love conquered all! An incredible story of survival and resilience!
The last book of this series could not have been more perfect. I have been waiting for Eden's story for sooo long! It was perfect. I felt all of the emotions as I read her story. I would definitely check your content warnings before reading. Im true Marni fashion, her MMC, Troy was nothing short of amazing. I loved his patience, his heart, and his fierce loyalty. Eden is the epitome of strength. I love that we got to finally see her wall come down and I just adored her even more. I'm sad this series is over, but I'm so happy I was able to read this early copy.
I've read almost every book Marni Mann has written, and I honestly thought the previous Weston book might have been my favorite. But then came The Forbidden One, and Marni absolutely outdid herself. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. This is easily one of the best books she has ever written. It's beautifully written, incredibly emotional, relevant, and a story that deserves to be told.
We've made our way through all the Weston brothers, and now it's finally time for their baby sister Eden's story. I loved getting updates on the brothers and seeing just how fiercely protective they are of their sister. We also get another glimpse into the Florida family connections. I have grown to love this entire family, and getting to spend more time with them was such a treat.
But this book belongs to Eden and Troy, and what an unforgettable love story they have.
The story unfolds through dual timelines, taking us back to Eden's college years, when an unimaginable tragedy forever changed the course of her life. Eden is strong, independent, and successful, but emotionally, she's closed herself off. She doesn't believe marriage or romantic love will ever be part of her future. She's built walls around herself, and she has no intention of letting anyone tear them down.
And then there's TROY.
Troy is everything you could want in a romantic hero. He's protective, strong, patient, devoted, and has that wonderful golden retriever energy. Four years earlier, when Eden walked into a conference room to join the Weston family business, Troy took one look at her and knew. He actually told his sister that he loved Eden and would marry her someday.
And from that moment, he was all in.
But what makes Troy so special isn't simply how much he loves Eden. It's HOW he loves her.
He doesn't push. He doesn't demand. He doesn't expect her to heal on his timeline. He's willing to move at whatever pace she needs, even if that means simply being in the same room with her. He knows she's the woman he wants, and he's willing to wait.
One of my absolute favorite quotes from the book is when Troy tells Eden:
"One day, instead of running for the door, you're going to run straight into my arms."
That quote perfectly captures their entire relationship. 🥹
Troy sees the woman behind the walls. He understands that Eden's strength doesn't mean she isn't hurting. He shows her through patience, kindness, and unwavering devotion that she doesn't have to face everything alone.
Their journey is emotional, and not just for Eden and Troy. The entire Weston family feels the weight of Eden's past. Watching the brothers love and protect their sister while also allowing her to find her own way was incredibly moving.
I also loved the idea of the invisible string connecting two people who are meant to find each other. Sometimes the right person comes into your life, and even when the timing isn't right, that connection remains. Troy never stops believing in Eden or in the possibility of their future.
This is a story about healing, closure, patience, and the kind of love that helps two people become stronger together.
And yes, Marni Mann made me CRY!
There are heartbreaking moments, but there are also tears that come from healing and closure. By the end, I was so emotionally invested in these characters and everything they had been through. Marni handles such a powerful subject with incredible emotion, and the ending delivers the kind of closure that makes the entire journey worthwhile.
One thing I especially appreciated was that this book wasn't as spicy as some of the previous Weston stories. I rated the spice around 2/5, and honestly, that was exactly where it needed to be.
This isn't just a spicy romance. This is a LOVE STORY.
It's about learning that even after unimaginable tragedy, you can open your heart again. You can allow someone to love you. You can find happiness and a future you never believed was possible. And perhaps most importantly, you don't have to go through life's most difficult moments alone.
THE AUDIOBOOK
Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor deliver another outstanding performance!
This is dual narration rather than duet or multicast, but honestly, these two are so talented that it works beautifully. Both are exceptional at voicing multiple characters, including characters of the opposite sex, and they bring so much emotion and depth to their performances.
Connor captures Troy's strength, tenderness, patience, and unwavering love so well. Samantha gives Eden the emotional complexity this character deserves. You can feel the strength and vulnerability in her performance.
Together, they make an already powerful story even more moving. An easy 5 stars for the narration!
MY FINAL THOUGHTS
I cannot recommend this book enough, but I have one very important piece of advice:
GO INTO THIS BOOK BLIND.
Seriously. Don't look for spoilers. Don't try to discover what happened to Eden before reading. Let Marni Mann tell you this story the way it was meant to be experienced.
I think this is an incredibly important story, especially for women. It addresses something that affects real people, and it deserves to be read, discussed, and understood. The emotional impact is so much greater when you experience the journey without knowing what's coming.
Although this is book five in the Weston family series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone. If you haven't read the previous four books, don't let that stop you! Pick this one up, fall in love with Eden and Troy, and then go back and experience the rest of the Weston family.
Marni Mann has given us something truly special with The Forbidden One. It's powerful, emotional, beautifully written, and filled with a love that is patient, kind, protective, and unconditional.
One of my favorite books of the year and one of the best Marni Mann books I've ever read.
FIVE STARS ARE NOT ENOUGH!
I received an advance listening copy (ALC) of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.
Coming October 22nd 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐎𝐧𝐞 By Marni Mann
𝓐𝓡𝓒/ALC 𝓡𝓔𝓥𝓘𝓔𝓦 I thought I was prepared for Eden’s story. Not even a little. I had tissues at the ready. Didn’t matter. I thought I knew how the story was going to go. Nope. My mouth literally dropped open at one point.
I have 3 words to describe this book: Stunning. Heartbreaking. Brilliant.
Eden Weston is a boss lady. Just ask attorney Troy Wolfe. Or her brothers. Or anyone she interacts with. But she has a dark, traumatic past that she always keeps hidden from the outside world. Eden keeps a journal and her “𝑀𝓎 𝑀𝑜𝓇𝓃𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒥𝑜𝓊𝓇𝓃𝒶𝓁 𝐸𝓃𝓉𝓇𝓎” writings are heart wrenching and at times, heart melting. She never talks about any of what happened, not even with her family. Until Troy becomes a part of her professional life and she discovers he’s much more than simply the Weston’s attorney. Troy becomes her savior.
Troy Wolfe has wanted Eden Weston for years. But he’s playing it cautious. He knows she doesn’t trust people. She doesn’t even date. Troy is determined to break thru her walls. Committed to protecting her. But he’ll also have to reveal some hard truths to her. Troy will steal your heart immediately. Full stop. He’s every green flag imaginable.
I read the book and listened to the audiobook and it was a captivating if not mesmerizing experience. Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor never disappoint and they are perfect for this story. Five huge stars for these talents who bring Marni’s words to life beautifully.
The Weston’s world renowned restaurant conglomerate continues to be fascinating reading, especially in this final book of the series. There’s nothing quite like reading about their latest business endeavors, (we get a terrific tease into Marni’s next series) salivating at how the incredible food selections are described, and experiencing Walker Weston’s humorous mood swings (he’s the grumpy, talented chef of the family and my personal favorite Weston brother.) We also get more of the Weston family’s always entertaining group texts. And the “Gossip Alerts” with sleazy tales about their competitors’ antics will definitely put a smile on your face.
But Eden and Troy are the true focus of this book and their story is difficult to read at times. It’s gut wrenching, emotional, but ultimately a journey of healing for them both. I couldn’t love these two more. And I couldn’t stop reading and listening to this book until well into the early morning hours. Of course this is Marni Mann so prepare for some delicious steamy, sizzling scenes later in the story.
This is a story that is so very timely. It’s one that will hurt your heart. It will literally drag all of the emotions out of you. And it will make your heart melt into a puddle at the end because we do get Eden’s well earned HEA. Truly brilliant storytelling, it may be my favorite Marni Mann book yet.
“𝙄 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙬, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙤𝙠.” Troy tells her this. More than once. And ultimately, he is right.
The Forbidden One by Marni Mann—brought to life through a captivating, mesmerizing dual narration by the dream team of Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais—is a stunning, heart-wrenching, and brilliant angsty romance that delivers the ultimate finale to the Weston Group series.
The story centers on Eden Weston, a fierce, unstoppable boss lady who was once known as the sassy, uninhibited sister. However, a horrific, traumatic night in her past altered her life’s path, leaving her shattered, haunted, and guarded behind impenetrable walls. Though surrounded by the affection of her family and their world-renowned restaurant conglomerate, Eden refuses to let anyone else in, keeping her deepest pain hidden within emotional journal entries. Enter Troy Wolf, an impressive attorney who has quietly wanted Eden for years. Troy is every green flag imaginable: patient, protective, persistently determined, and a true billionaire hero who falls first, falls hard, and is entirely willing to burn down the world to win her heart.
When Troy steps into her professional life, Eden discovers he is far more than just the family's lawyer. Recognizing her deep wounds and lack of trust, Troy never tries to fix her or force her healing; instead, he simply keeps showing up, offering a safe harbor that overshadows her darkest memories. As their connection deepens from sharp professional interactions into intense chemistry and delicious, sizzling spice, jaw-dropping revelations come to light regarding how entwined their pasts truly are and how deeply Troy has also been impacted by his own history in the foster care system. Watching Eden slowly overcome her grievances, let Troy behind her defenses, and realize she deserves the love and happiness she thought were lost forever forms a deeply moving, emotionally raw journey of healing after severe trauma.
The narrative is further enriched by the vibrant Weston family universe, complete with entertaining group texts, sleazy competitor "Gossip Alerts," and mouthwatering culinary descriptions, along with entertaining mood swings from fan-favorite chef Walker Weston. Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais elevate the listening experience to new heights, with Brentmoor flawlessly capturing Eden’s blend of sass, vulnerability, and resilience, while Crais infuses Troy with a confident, fiercely devoted energy that will leave listeners swooning. Balancing heavy, timely angst with profound emotional payoff and a well-earned happily ever after, The Forbidden One stands as a masterpiece in Marni Mann’s catalog and a deeply satisfying conclusion to a beloved series.

Forbidden One was such an emotional and angsty way to finish the Westen Group series, and Eden and Troy’s story was everything I wanted for the final book.
Eden has always been surrounded by love, but after everything she has been through, she has completely closed herself off from ever believing that kind of love could exist for her. She is guarded, stubborn, and determined to protect her heart, and honestly, I completely understood why.
Then Troy Wolf enters her life, and this man does not do anything halfway.
Troy knows what he wants from the beginning, and what he wants is Eden. He is patient when she needs him to be, persistent when she tries to push him away, and protective without ever making her feel weak. I loved how he never tried to fix her or rush her healing. He just kept showing up and proving that he was someone she could trust.
Their chemistry was intense from the start, but I loved that their story was so much more than attraction. Watching Eden slowly let Troy behind all those walls she had built around herself was emotional, frustrating at times, but so worth it.
Troy absolutely stole this book for me. He falls first, falls hard, and basically decides that if Eden won’t believe in love, he is going to prove it to her until she has no choice.
Eden’s journey was heartbreaking at times because you can feel just how much her past has changed the way she sees herself and her future. Watching her finally start to believe that she deserves happiness, love and everything she thought had been taken away from her was one of my favourite parts of the book.
Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor were such a good pairing for Troy and Eden. Connor gave Troy that confidence, protective and completely gone for her energy, while Samantha captured all of Eden’s vulnerability, sass and emotion perfectly.
Forbidden One gave me angst, spice, healing, family, a ridiculously determined billionaire and a man who was willing to burn down the world for the woman he loved.
Such a satisfying ending to the Westen Group series.
I’ve been anticipating Eden’s story whilst enjoying The Weston series. I knew it was going to be a phenomenal one but I had no idea just how good it was going to be……… Sorry Marni, I should have had more faith !!
My love of romance is being swept away by the magic of a good book. Stories that completely transport us-
From the moment I start the first page the story & characters become real. The emotions, danger, love, happiness are felt as if they are our own. Eden’s story is that story for me. I felt every emotion whilst reading this story. I’m genuinely finding it difficult to find the words to write a review worthy of Eden's story. If I could give it infinite stars.
Here goes…….. Eden Weston is the baby of the family, having four older brothers who are extremely protective of her. When she was at college she seemed to be the life of the party. Then something horrific happened to her. Her dream was to become a photographer was shattered, she no longer found the beauty in anything. Now she’s closed off, cold almost. She doesn’t trust anyone but you can’t help but warm to her, she has a real vulnerability, yet invisible strength to her. I wanted to jump inside my kindle & wrap my arms around her but I know she’d hate it. She doesn’t socialise, unless it’s with her family. When her brothers offered her an ownership stake she jumped at the chance. Now, she’s become the backbone of The Weston group & family ever since.
Troy Wolf falls hard & fast for Eden but he’s always stayed on the outer edge. He’s works for the Dalton group. The Weston group were his largest clients, the first big account he’d secured after graduating law school. Over the years they’d become much more than clients, they’d become friends. He’s been so consistent & patient over the years. He most definitely gives patience a whole new meaning!
He’s THE perfect man to make Eden feel safe again. To give her the strength & courage to heal, in every way that matters.
The Forbidden One is not just a romance; it is a story about facing your past, finding strength to overcome it, to heal & find love against all odds. Someone who’ll walk alongside you in the darkness & light up your heart.
Marni’s ability to write something as beautiful as this is breathtaking. - She handled the storyline perfectly, without sugarcoating it. The storyline was handled with such sensitivity. Marni never fails to amaze me, My heart was in my throat & I had tears in my eyes more than once while reading. I Loved it. Absolutely sensational. Infinite stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I know I’ve said this before, but THIS ONE is actually my favorite book in this series. I swear. Not sure if it was that the mystery behind Eden’s story that has been building through the past four books or the unusual arc of this story felt so unique, but it really stood out. Eden is the baby and only sister amongst the 5 Westin siblings and she works with her brothers running the world’s largest restaurant group. Troy is on their legal team and has been working with them for years. They are thrown together while working on a buyout deal and all that one on one time brings out buried truths about Eden’s past and Troy’s feeling for her.
I love that we have a very different way of telling this story than the typical romance arc. The big conflict that would usually be at the beginning of the third act actually happens about a third of the way into the book. How they handle that means that we get more time with Eden and Troy as a couple than we usually would, more time to watch their feelings grow and their story unfold. The other storytelling device I like here is how each chapter starts with the distinction of being Before or After, as in before or after the major event that changed Eden’s life. The dual timelines are woven together so well by author Marni Mann, for maximum emotional impact. And while we get to check in with Eden’s brothers and their women, this book is all about Eden and Troy. She starts off so closed off and isolated and Troy is the definition of down bad for her. I just loved them.
The fantastic Dual style narration by Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais elevates this book even more. They are both so good and engaging that every few chapters I kept feeling as if I wasn’t getting enough time with one main character or the other simply because they were both so brilliant that I immediately missed one while enjoying the other. I stand by the fact that Brentmoor can do literally ANYTHING well, but the subtleties in the different ways she portrays Eden before the event, in the present we first meet her in and after she connects with Troy are truly exceptional. And Crais who is equally talented just makes your heart melt with one of the most raw and earnest performances I have heard from him.
Now that all the Weston’s have their books, are we headed to Florida?
Thank you to Valentine PR and author Marni Mann for the chance to listen to and review an advanced copy of this audiobook.
The Forbidden One by Marni Mann is book five in the Weston Group series and is the story of Eden and Troy. This is a hurt/comfort, coworkers to lover’s romance with some very sensitive subjects so please check the content warnings before reading.
We have met Eden through the first four books of the Weston series which stars each of her brothers. While Eden has been a fixture in the series we only got glimpses of her story and how she was reserved and kept to herself. Eden has a traumatic past which has shaped her present and the way she tells her story through the past and present tense allows us to see who she was and who she became after. Troy has works for the Weston for four years and has been obsessed with Eden from the moment he sees her in a conference room but as it turns out it goes so much deeper than that and his past is entwined with hers.
Troy is patient, kind and gives Eden the space and time she needs to feel comfortable with him and to be around him. His feelings are apparent to everyone except Eden, who just refuses to see any man in that capacity. As usual, the Weston clan is there for Eden and even for Troy and the ladies who have become Eden’s friends as well as her sister-in-laws support Eden through her recovery.
There is something that draws Eden to Troy and he is all in but won’t push for more than Eden is ready for. As the truth is revealed about the past, Eden is forced to face it and realizes there is more to Troy than she ever thought. Their connection and chemistry is soul deep and the way the learn to love one another is beautiful. There are some really heartbreaking moments in this book but Marni did a phenomenal job tackling these tough situations and making them realistic while respectfully telling the story.
The audiobook is narrated by Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor and they are the dream team for this book. Their ability to narrate such emotion, angst and yearning is beyond measure ad will have you feeling all the feels. I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving an honest review as a show of my appreciation.
🎧 **Audiobook Review: The Forbidden One by Marni Mann** ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks to VPR ( Valentine PR) for the ALC
First, let's talk narration because **Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais absolutely understood the assignment**. Samantha brought every bit of Peyton's vulnerability, strength, and heartbreak to life, while Connor made Troy impossible not to love. Together, they delivered all the emotion this story demanded.
Now for the book itself.
I've been waiting for Peyton's story since the beginning of the Weston Group series, and I'm so happy Marni Mann saved the sister for last. Peyton has always been the one behind the scenes keeping everything running. She's the negotiator, the marketer, the problem-solver, and honestly the glue holding everyone together. We finally get to learn why she is the way she is, and wow... it's heartbreaking.
My one petty complaint? Why isn't Peyton on the cover? Every other book focused on the Weston men, and while I'm assuming that's Troy on the front, I feel like Peyton deserved her moment too.
This book brings together so many threads from the previous books, including the ongoing acquisition storyline and the history of how the Weston Group was built. Technically, you could read this as a standalone, but honestly, you'd miss so much of the emotional payoff.
Peyton and Troy's romance is tender, emotional, and at times difficult to read because of the trauma Peyton has endured. Definitely check trigger warnings. Troy has been carrying a torch for Peyton since their school days, and despite everything she's been through, he never stops showing up for her.
I did see some of the twists coming, but that didn't make them hurt any less. Marni Mann has a way of ripping your heart out and then convincing you to thank her for it afterward.
Overall, **4 stars**. This is one of the heavier and more emotional books in the Weston Group series, but it felt like the perfect way to end it. I'm going to miss this group, and I'm so glad Peyton finally got her story. 💜📚🎧
I was not prepared for the level of emotions I would feel reading this book and the impact it would have on me. The Forbidden One is a shattering masterpiece of tragedy, hopelessness, love, and hope. We understand from previous books, something happened to Eden Weston that changed the trajectory of her life and made her into the woman she is today. She is the little sister of the Weston brothers, each protective of her due to what she suffered, but at the end of the day, want to see her happy. She is the brains behind the Weston group.
Due to her tragedy, Eden wants nothing to do with men. She is reserved around others and cautious, until she meets Troy Wolfe. He makes her want to change. He makes her want to be different. He makes her want to let love in. When she finally discovers the ties Troy has to her past, it shatters her, but heals her in a way. He has the missing pieces to help put her together.
Troy… could there not be someone more perfect, patient, kind, caring? He has loved Eden from afar, biding his time waiting for her to be ready. Eden was a warrior in this book and all she endured. Troy was her savior in every sense of the word. It takes someone of his strength and character to heal someone who struggles the way Eden struggled with trust. Troy was her dragon and slayed all her bad memories. Troy too had scars of his own that Eden helped to heal. They were each other’s life lines.
“The good times aren’t necessarily what you remember the most. It’s how they’re there for you during the bad. How they show up. How they don’t let you crumble. That’s what you’ll recall over everything else.”
My review of this book will not do the book justice. It is hands down the best Marni Mann book I’ve ever read. This story will stay with me long after reading the last word. Troy and Eden will stay with me long after the last chapter.
The Forbidden One Series: The Weston Group, Book 5 By: Marni Mann Narrated by: Connor Crais, Samantha Brentmoor
WOW! This is just the kind of book I love! Marni Mann writes a love story that I could sink my teeth into. Not all fluff and spice, she gave a story that had me emotionally invested and listening constantly(no one was in the office today!) It's Eden's turn, and she has had a tragic past. Always on guard, she doesn't like to go out, or really socialize at all. Troy is the Weston's lawyer and he has had his eye on her even before he was hired. College was when he first saw her and though he did not make his move, he did do something that would change her life. Now he is going to take his chance, but will he be able to break down her walls and win her heart? This is only a touch of the story. It's much darker in the details and it had my emotions running high. Eden is an amazingly strong woman. Her past is not going to keep her down, and she has done her best to move on. Troy is in love, and he is ready to make his move and win her heart. He is smart, loyal and patient, the perfect man for her. But it's not just this story! It's the Weston world! It's the restaurants and what could be for their future. It's the family banding together to make decisions. And it's a family who looks out for each other. I have loved this series, and this is the perfect book to end the series.
What could make it even better? Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais. I love this team, they are magic together. Diving into their characters, they find the essence of their souls, making their personalities exactly as Marni wanted, and their emotions to the forefront. I loved these two as they brought this story alive.
The Forbidden One is the 5th and final book in the Weston Group series by Marni Mann. This Billionaire, Found Family book is emotional AF with pining galore. He falls first and harder, no cheating, no third act break up, ends with a HEA and the bonus epilogue was the icing on this sweet cake.
TW: history of physical abuse of a minor (off-page), heavy mentions of aggravated sexual assault (fade to black, despite descriptions of the emotional and physical injuries post-assault), PTSD as a result, and severe physical and medical trauma.
I would like to Thank Valentine PR and Marni Mann for my ARC and in return I voluntarily promised an honest review.
Eden Weston is the youngest of the Weston siblings. Always Sassy, Unstoppable and Unafraid, until she wasn't. She doesn't believe in love, believes she will be alone, childless and loveless until her heart beats its last beat.
Troy Wolf is the Weston's friend and Lawyer. He hasn't hid his feelings very well about the Forbidden sister. He fell for her the minute he laid eyes on her and that was something no-one knew about, the trauma they shared and yet she doesn't remember him.
Eden's world was shattered one night, left for dead, scarred and everything she wanted in her life was altered. Now, she is guarded and closed off with only her family to love her.
Then Troy, a man she's known for 4 years makes his feelings known and exactly how he knows her. With each encounter he becomes more impressive and leaves her yearning for things that she shouldn't want. He becomes her one constant, her safe place.
A ghost from her past comes between them. Will she continue to let her heart be locked up or let them have forever?
I am struggling with how to put into words how amazing this story is but please, please, please make sure you read the trigger warnings because this one is a tough read. It also has a pretty dark side, but Marni does a phenomenal job with the delicate subject. She does do some time jumping back and forth from past to present but it is exactly what this story needs. Eden's past is one that definitely shifted her path in life. While I had an idea on what had occurred, I had never imagined the way the web from her past would intersect with her present. When Troy has the opportunity to spend a large amount of time with Eden for a possible business deal, he is willing to do whatever he needs. He is even willing to possibly work for free just so he can continue to spend time with her. I always knew that Marni would give us an absolute heartbreaking story but one that would heal us in the end. The strength that Marni gave to both Troy and Eden in this story can be felt throughout the entire book. Troy's protective trait and patience is exactly what Eden needs and the only one that her brothers will approve and the reason why they know that he is who she is meant to be with. The ending was also a shocker that I hadn't seen coming until the very last moment. The narrators in the audiobook truly bring the emotions to this book. The pain, anger, and every other emotion that we encounter on this rollercoaster of a ride. I always think that each new book is Marni's best but this one is truly one of a kind and absolute perfection.
The Forbidden One was a high-angst read that was touching, poignant, tear-jerking, healing, and cathartic. I found Eden's story to be the most emotional of all the Westons. Although the main characters were in college at the same time, they never met because a disastrous event ripped Eden's life apart. My heart went out to a young Peyton, as she was known then, when her life was disrupted and destroyed by one man's vicious act of violence. Both Troy and Peyton suffered greatly for nine years, longer than was necessary. I was so thankful when Eden finally learned the truth and accepted Troy, trusting in his sincerity. Their love story was built on a foundation that Troy lovingly erected, layer by layer, until Eden was ready. Troy never rushed Eden, giving her the sense of security she needed in order to be with him. In the end, Troy got his Peyton back. Patience and perseverance won a lifetime of love.
I highly recommend listening to the audiobook while reading this book. The talented Connor Crais and Samantha Brentwood bring Troy Wolf and Eden Weston to life, adding a new layer of emotion and depth to the story. Samantha Brentwood portrays Eden's angst and heartbreak expertly, and it hit me right in the heartstrings. When Connor Crais's voice drops and he growls as Troy, shivers run up and down my spine. I would gladly listen to The Forbidden One on repeat because of these two voice talents.
“Eden Weston. …, I couldn’t breathe. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life.”
This is it — this is the best book of the series, hands down, no arguments will be entertained. Troy Wolf very likely has take the absolute top spot over any other MMC written by Marni Mann. He is everything & more.
READ & HEED the trigger warnings friends - listen & respect the heads up Marni gives. Because Eden’s story is intense, challenging, heartbreaking, redeeming, and finally heartwarming. Marni handled her story with such tenderness and simultaneous strength — Eden is a boss in every sense of the word. And Troy?! Phew…this man feels like the representation of every good thing we all want in a man. Patient - Focused - Protective - Committed. The depth of love he has for Eden is truly unmatched, and he is so dang selfless when it comes to her.
The way their stories collide - the time to truly find one another is intense. The pacing was perfect for the care their story deserved. And I absolutely loved loved loved the way Marni brought all the pieces together. I hate to see the Westons “go” but I’m hoping we see more of them in her next series (giiiiirl let’s go to Vegas!!!)!
I loved the Westons - each of them unique in their own way, but all so committed to their love & support of one another.
