Gravel Kings #1

Crew's Claim

Rate this book
I’m Crew Malone, president of the Gravel Kings MC, and I’ve buried more bodies than I have regrets.

At forty-five, I rule this Pacific Northwest territory with iron fists and a loaded Glock—leather cuts, roaring Harleys, and zero room for weakness.

Women? They’re a distraction I can’t afford.

Not after Mia.

Not with rival Reapers circling like vultures, ready to paint our streets red.

Then she walks into my bar. Sunshine Carter—twenty-three, all curves and cinnamon rolls, with a smile that could melt the frost off my black heart. She’s leasing the shop next door, baking her way into a life she doesn’t belong in.

Too sweet. Too young. Too fucking perfect.

I tell her to run. She flips her hair and offers me pastries instead. One drive-by shooting later, and she’s under my protection—whether she likes it or not. Bullets fly, graffiti scars her bakery door with threats, and every instinct screams to claim her.

Hard. Raw. Mine.

But ghosts from my past claw at me, whispering I’ll destroy her like I did the last one. And when the Reapers pull her into their hellhole trap, I unleash the monster she’s already tamed.

She’s my sunshine in this endless rain. My redemption. My everything. I’ll burn the world for her—but I'm not sure I can keep her safe from the darkness I drag in my wake.

Crew's Claim is an age-gap MC bite-sized romance that delivers possessive alpha heat, high-stakes biker drama, and a hard-won HEA. No cheating, no cliffhanger. 1-click if you crave grumpy biker prezzes claiming their sunshine heroines.

This book didn’t just walk into my life — it strutted in wearing leather, smelling like danger and cinnamon rolls, and immediately started yelling, “Don’t think too hard, babe, just enjoy the ride.” And honestly? Fair.

Because Crew’s Claim is the kind of MC bite‑sized chaos where the plot is basically sprinting, the chemistry is feral, and the character development is somewhere in the back alley having a smoke break.

Let’s be honest:
There is no character building.
None.
Crew is forty‑five, traumatised, alpha, and allegedly the president of the Gravel Kings… but we learn approximately three things about him and two of them involve his Glock. Sunshine is twenty‑three, adorable, baking her way into danger, and we know she likes pastries and bad decisions. That’s it. That’s the character sheet.

The brothers?
Ghosts.
They exist.
They grunt.
They ride.
They threaten.
But babe, we don’t know a single thing about them. They’re basically NPCs with tattoos.

The romance?
Insta‑love so fast it should’ve come with a speed warning.
Crew sees Sunshine once and immediately goes full “mine” like a feral possum guarding a bin. She flips her hair, offers pastries, and suddenly he’s ready to burn down the Pacific Northwest for her. It’s giving:
“Sir, please calm down, she just handed you a cinnamon scroll.”

The bedroom action?
Off the charts.
Off the rails.
Off the map.
It’s 168 pages and somehow 120 of them are Crew having a crisis about how much he wants her. You wanted less of that and more of literally everything else — and honestly, same. The chemistry is nuclear, but the plot is standing in the corner like, “Hello? I exist too?”

The rival‑club war?
Chaotic.
Under‑explained.
Thrown in like seasoning.
The Reapers show up, shoot things, kidnap people, graffiti threats, and we’re just supposed to roll with it. It’s giving:
“Don’t ask questions, babe, just duck.”

And yet…
AND YET…
It’s a good read.
Because sometimes you don’t need a fully fleshed‑out MC saga with deep lore and emotional arcs — sometimes you need a grumpy forty‑five‑year‑old biker president losing his mind over a sunshine baker who refuses to be scared of him. Sometimes you need alpha chaos, fast pacing, feral chemistry, and a short, sharp hit of MC drama that doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

Taken for what it is — a quick, spicy, alpha‑male, age‑gap MC novella — it absolutely delivers. It’s messy, it’s shallow, it’s fast, it’s horny, it’s chaotic, and it’s exactly the kind of bite‑sized biker nonsense that scratches the itch even while you’re yelling, “I WOULD LIKE MORE PLOT, PLEASE.”

A fun, feral, fast MC hit with off‑the‑charts chemistry, minimal character development, maximum alpha energy, and just enough biker drama to keep the engine running.

SERIOUSLY?!! This was every bad cliche you've ever read in a biker romance. I should have stopped reading asa I saw the FL's name - Sunshine! The grumpy old biker was the toughest, roughest biker this side of insanity, and yet not only did he fall instalove, but did so while claiming to never want a woman again because his ex left with just a bedside note, explaining she couldn't wait around for him to die while being in a MC club!! EXCEPT...

a few chapters in the story was changed so that now the ex was kidnapped & murdered by a rival club, but not to fear, cause Sunshine (a coddled 23 yo who somehow got a bakery going all on her own), assured the ML "Crew" that she wasn't the ex. and would never break ... she repeated this ad nauseum throughout this mess of a story. I don't even remember or care how this combination of every eye-rolling biker romance ended. I was just glad when it did.

Sunshine and Crew

Crew is the President of the Gravel Kings MC and he knows he is not good enough for the bakery owner next door. Sunshine introduces herself in the club’s bar as she has just started her business next door. She does this nice thing because that’s just who she is.

One look at Sunshine, Crew knows that she is his but with that comes the danger that follows him. Now that she is in his enemy’s crosshairs he’ll do whatever he has to to keep her safe. He just can’t let history repeat itself…he may not survive it.

This was mostly fun. The spicy scenes were hot and sweet. Not a whole lot of character building, given it’s a novella, but what there was is good. I liked the epilogue of the bakery being rebuilt and the MC brothers helping out and Crew getting all dressed up to propose was adorable.

A few things took me out. Crew first says Mia died at the rival mcs hands, then says she left a note on the nightstand saying she wasn’t waiting around for his funeral, and then it’s back to her dying.

I DID NOT like the constant reminder that Sunshine is basically Mia 2.0 but somehow better and stronger even though she’s lived a cush life but somehow she’s fighting off gang members. Crew even says Cain chose her bc she looked so much like Mia he knew Crew would eventually notice and want her. It felt like Crew saw Sunshine as a redo of Mia with a better ending. It was gross.

Sunshine constantly saying she’s not Mia (while that seems to be the reason Cain and Crew want her) and won’t freeze or wait for rescue (which she did wait for rescue btw. Crew came for her, she didn’t escape on her own) is so disrespectful to Mia. Like she was weak for getting kidnapped and tortured for days on end? Then Cain agreeing that’s she’s better and stronger than Mia. At least he was truthful when he said she was just a replacement for Mia bc it felt that way a few times with the Mia haunting the narrative.

This 23 year old baker is suddenly a war strategist and somehow knows more about battles than seasoned bikers?

Sunshine by name, sunshine by nature and honestly, could there be a more perfect heroine? Sunshine Carter is the kind of woman who sees the good in everyone. Even the tattooed, glowering bikers next door to her soon to be opened bakery. Of course she’s going to pop in to introduce herself. That’s just who she is. What she doesn’t expect is the bullets to start flying and a towering, silver-haired biker to tackle her to the floor to save her life. Crew has definitely noticed the bakery’s new, very curvy owner, but in his mind, the bar (and his life) is no place for someone like her. One protective instinct (and one very compromising position) later, and he knows he’s in trouble. The moment he feels her softness beneath him, something shifts. Sunshine may have wandered into his world by accident, but there’s no way he’s letting her walk back out of it. And what a world it is. Sunshine hasn’t just moved in next door; she’s stepped straight into the middle of a war between the Gravel Kings and the Reapers. If Crew thought that would send her running, he seriously underestimated her. Sunshine might bake cupcakes, but she’s got a spine of solid steel. She doesn’t flinch from Crew’s darkness; she accepts it. All of it. Even better? She refuses to be wrapped in bubble wrap or locked away for “her own good.” Stubborn, loyal, and fiercely loving, she’s the perfect counterbalance to Crew’s alpha intensity. The emotional punch lands hard when we learn how Sunshine relates to Crew’s past and why the rival MC has her in their crosshairs. It adds a heartbreaking layer to Crew’s fear of losing her and makes his vulnerability all the more compelling. I especially loved how he lets her in, peeling back the layers of the hardened club president to reveal the man underneath. Watching him share his history and his scars with her was easily one of the strongest aspects of the book. That said, while Crew is billed as a ruthless leader who rules with an iron fist, the Reapers often seemed to hold the upper hand, leaving the Gravel Kings feeling a little less formidable than expected. It didn’t ruin the story for me, but it did shift the power dynamic in a way I wasn’t anticipating. One surprising detail was also the total absence of other women at the club, not even the usual club bunnies you’d expect in an MC setting. It gave the story a slightly different vibe from the typical biker romance, which may work for some readers more than others. Overall, this was an engaging MC romance with characters who felt refreshingly layered rather than stereotypical. Sunshine is no shrinking violet, and Crew is far more than just a growling alpha. Add in tantalizing glimpses of his MC brothers—who I very much hope get their own stories—and you’ve got a series I’ll happily return to.

One cinnamon roll. One claim. One dangerous ride to forever.

Sunshine always wanted more than the life her family built for her, but opening a bakery in a gritty neighborhood might be too much. When she meets Crew, brooding, possessive, and untouchable, the line between safety and temptation blurs. She’s drawn to the dangerous spark between them, but her world’s never been more at risk.

Crew’s life is about control, power, and violence, until Sunshine walks into his bar with a smile that cracks his hardened heart. She’s everything he’s spent years running from, too young, too innocent, too bright for him. But when a rival gang marks her for death, his protector instincts kick in.

Their connection ignites, raw and undeniable. The tension between their worlds colliding and the passion they can’t escape blurs the lines between love and control. In the face of death, betrayal, and a love that’s too fierce to ignore, they must confront what it means to trust and claim the life they’ve always needed.

Sunshine starts eager to build her own life, but her vulnerability and independence grow as she faces danger and embraces her connection with Crew. Crew, gruff and jaded, slowly opens up to love, letting Sunshine’s strength soften the walls he’s built. Their relationship evolves from a clash of power dynamics to a raw connection, forcing them to confront their deepest fears and desires while forging a love that transforms them both.

A hot, age gap, grumpy/sunshine motorcycle club romance filled with explosive chemistry, raw desire, and the kind of love that demands everything. It’s a journey of power, vulnerability, and protection in a world of danger, forcing Crew and Sunshine to confront their fears while discovering strength in love and growth. When two people from different worlds carve their future, the ride changes everything.

The Elevator Pitch: In a dangerous neighborhood, a young woman with dreams of independence finds herself drawn to a brooding, possessive man whose world is built on power and violence. As their worlds collide, their connection ignites a raw and undeniable passion that forces them both to confront their deepest fears and desires. Together, they must navigate a love that demands everything, while battling threats from the past that could tear them apart.

If you're looking for a fast-paced, steamy MC romance that doesn't hold back, Crew's Claim by Kova Steele is the book for you. From the very first page, you get drawn into the world of the Gravel Kings, where the tough, silver-fox biker president Crew Malone meets the irresistibly sweet bakery owner, Sunshine Carter. Their chemistry jumps off the page—grumpy meets sunshine, and sparks fly. The plot kicks into high gear with a drive-by shooting and never lets up, delivering plenty of action and excitement.

Crew is the classic alpha—tough, protective, and fiercely loyal. When Sunshine strolls into his bar with her cinnamon rolls and bright smile, Crew finds himself completely captivated. The age gap and their differences only add to the tension and heat, making their romance feel fresh and exciting. When the rival Reapers MC threatens Sunshine, Crew's possessive side comes out in full force, and you can’t help but root for him as he claims her in every way.

This book delivers everything you want from a gritty MC romance: sizzling chemistry, high-stakes danger, betrayals, and a protective alpha with a heart of gold. The steam is off the charts—explicit, wild, and totally consensual. It’s a quick read (about two hours), so it's perfect if you’re looking for an intense, spicy escape. The story wraps up with a happily ever after, so you won’t be left hanging.

Overall, Crew's Claim is a fantastic kickoff to the Gravel Kings series. If you love grumpy/sunshine tropes, possessive alpha bikers, and curvy girl heroines, you’ll have a blast with this one. It’s short and spicy, made for readers who crave unrepentant MC romance and instalove vibes. Five stars, highly recommend!.

Crew’s Claim checked so many boxes for me that it felt like my birthday came early.

🔥Age-gap
🔥Grumpy/Sunshine
🔥Plus-sized heroine
🔥Possessive MMC
🔥Insta-love
🔥Praise and body worship

I think my favorite things about this fun-sized novella were the fact that our FMC, Sunshine, and MMC, Crew, inverted some of the main characterization stereotypes that are common in MC romance.

Sunshine has a personality fitting of her name. On the surface, she is a sugary sweet bakery owner who offers cinnamon rolls to a crowded biker bar as a neighborly gesture. More than that, though, is a woman with a core of steel that faces danger head on, both in accepting the MC as part of her life and what that means.

Crew, alternatively, is the hard ass president of the Gravel Kings MC, a leader through and through that demands complete respect from his club brothers. He’s been scarred by a painful past, and lets Sunshine see his doubt, fear, and desperation as a result of it. He’s vulnerable with her in a way that gives her the chance to not only support him, but see him for who he truly is and choose to be by his side.

There were a few aspects of the book that were a little bit repetitive at times, but all-in-all it’s a short and sexy read with action, heart, and family.

Crew's Claim by Kova Steele is the first title I've read by this author and is the first title in the new Gravel Kings series.
As a steamy, age gap, grumpy/sunshine, possessive protector biker romance it had me hooked from the start with it's plot and storyline and engaging characters, Crew and Sunshine.
Crew Malone, older and president of the Gravel Kings MC is captivated instantly by the sunshiny, curvy, younger Sunshine Carter when she walks in to his bar.
Sunshine is trying to go it alone away from her wealthy, privileged family by opening her bakery near a biker bar and gets caught up in drama with a rival biker gang that results in her being protected and claimed by Crew.
Sunshine feels the attraction to Crew but is out of her depth in the MC world but despite Crew's initial restraint, things between the two of them get hot, heavy and filthy quickly.
Intrigue, drama and action involving the rival Reaper MC, along with the sizzling chemistry and the developing connection Crew and Sunshine are navigating, is woven well throughout.
Overall the story was well paced and with the possessiveness of Crew, the high heat and spice between the two MCs and their journey to a HEA, it all made for a great read. I look forward to the other titles in the series.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I will say that I enjoyed the story. Age gap, possessive alpha protector and a heroine he never saw coming. Quick read with lots of heart, steam, danger and suspense.
Crew is the president of Gravel Kings MC. He is older, dangerous, brooding and has a haunted past. When the new business owner next door walks into the MC bar he isn’t ready for her.
Sunshine Carter, cones from a life of wealth and privilege. She gives it all up and takes her trust fund to open a bakery in a shady part of town. She is young, ambitious, sunshine personified and has a spine of steel. She never expected to be a target in a MC war.
These two are complete opposites, Crew thinks Sunshine is too young, too sweet and too pure for a damaged soul like him. He never expected the fire and stubbornness that she brought. Nor did he expect the loyalty and love she brings. She quiets the voices and he protects her.
I love how loyal these two are to each other. Crew keeps trying to push her away and she is determined to stay.

It needs editing, but the premise is good

Let’s start with the Cons:

1) The author mentions parents at the start and then it’s like they disappear from the equation. I would’ve much rather either they be quickly discussed and dismissed than drop off.

2) It’s choppy and VERY repetitive. How many’s times and different ways does Mia have to be brought up like it’s new information. “Crew” told her about Mia like it was new information no less than 4 times and it was the same information each time. It’s unnecessary and irritates my sense of reasoning for a dual POV. When writing a dual POV I don’t need the whole thing rehashed or repeated every time something occurs.

3) That’s why a good editor, who is honest with the author is necessary, it’s choppy, close the loops, finish the plot, don’t make the “characters” sound stupid to make them “sound like a biker”.

Pro’s:

1) No series cliffhanger, everything is resolved, without the oh but there’s more bad guys coming.

2) A HEA without running away or getting disturbed by things being “club business” or from “club girl” drama.

3) Could be a very good book with a little editing.

This is the first book in the Gravel Kings series. It’s a great start to it. Crew sees Sunshine, the spitting image of his lost love, and he knows she’s his. But she’s in danger from a rival crew who’s stalking her. All Sunshine wants is her bakery and Crew. She left her wealthy family to start the bakery, and she Instaloves with Crew.
What I liked: I liked Crew and Sunshine, and I loved the steam. Very steamy.
What I didn’t: it would have been more interesting if it hadn’t just been the rival crew’s vengeance. I’d have liked it better if her past was somehow involved. I think an opportunity was missed here that would have elevated the story beyond the standard MC plot.
Cat’s Stats
Heat- explicit
Bechdel test- failed
Safety? Y
Triggers- graphic violence, discussion of kidnapping and of implied SA of an off page deceased character, vandalism.
Tropes- Age Gap, Instalove, Opposites Attract, You Are My Sunshine, Small-Town Bakery.

This is the first book I've read by this author. It's a book I picked up from an ARC, and it did not disappoint. It was action-packed from the beginning.

Sunshine is eventually following her dream and opening a bakery. She is getting the last-minute touches done to it, to hopefully open soon. As a courtesy, she goes into the biker bar next door to introduce herself; well, it's the neighbourly thing to do; unbeknownst to her, that decision brings her in the crosshairs of rival MC Prez Cain.

Crew takes one look at this innocent woman and knows she shouldn't be anywhere near him, or the club, but fate has other plans. Crew tries to stay away from Sunshine, but he can't. He can't have a repeat of the past; he'll not survive it this time. Sunshine, though, is not frail; she is fire, and she'll fight to the death if needs be because she knows Crew will be there fighting for her as well.

okay…

This is a quick age gap style MC romance featuring Pollyanna-archetype baker, Sunshine, who’s recently escaped her controlling family’s clutches and started a bakery next door to a motorcycle club run by Crew. What follows is love at first sight and an inexplicable immediate danger to Sunshine from one of Crew’s old rivals.

To me, the central conflict or suspense of this book came out of nowhere And we never really understood why Cain had it in for Crew so badly or knew about the love at first sight angle before it had even had time to take root. This had potential and it was ultimately fine, but I felt like a lot of character and plot building blocks were glossed over, the spice was phoned in, and the story was ultimately a bit surfacey as a result. That said, for a “fast and filthy MC romance”, it did what it said on the tin.

Great story!

This one has the perfect MC story format. Older, Hot biker. Tormented by past traumas. A young woman, who's name matched her personality. The Villain, or in most cases a violent one percent biker gang, who only knows how to destroy people, places, and things. It moves quickly, this story. Within the first few pages Crew has claimed Sunshine, and keeping her safe in his room. Simple, but compelling background story of the hate between Crew, and the other club. Great wind down, and the ending, and extended epilogue give the reader everything you want to read. Fantastic hot scenes between Crew and Sunshine. What is it about older guys, and younger women? I recommend this series. Now onto the next book, about Bishop. Trish. A

Crew's Claim

This is definitely fast paced. There's not a lot of introspection on either character's part and they fall for each other really fast. So be prepared for things to move along quickly.

The MMC is a solid grumpy older biker hero.

“That’s who I am, Sunshine. That’s what loving me means. Violence. Revenge. A world where people are in danger just because they matter to me.”

And this,

“I know it’s insane.” I force myself to look her in the eyes. “Two weeks. Age gap. Danger everywhere. But none of it matters. I want you. If you’ll have me.”

The MFC is young and determined to leave her old life behind and start her own business. The bikers are great support for her to do this.

Also, thank you, author, for having the characters engage in safe sex.

This has action, suspense and drama it is a definite page turner and kept my attention anyone who likes MC romances would enjoy this and like most MC romance books they all have their own spin on the genre but not all can make the story believable the way this author did a wonderful 1 to 2 hours of escape from the real world.
They loved each other so much that their determination to be together is what makes it so romantic!.

Sunshine is the owner of the bakery across the street from the biker bar. Because of Crew’s past she has become a target by a rival gang and Crew takes one look at her and says ‘MINE’.

“You ride with me or I throw you over my shoulder. Your choice.”

He kisses me like I’m the only thing left worth holding onto. Like I’m the only thing keeping him human.

“You don’t have to say it back.” He kisses my hairline. “Just needed you to know. Needed you to understand why I’ll burn the world down before I let anyone hurt you again.”

I tried

I mean this is one of my favorite tropes but this was not that good. The general plot would have been better if it was longer, with more of a time frame and less cliches. This book didn’t make sense to me. Sunshine came from a rich, sheltered background and put herself on the other side of the tracks. Not just the other side but next door to a biker bar. Things happen and the sheltered young lady takes it like it’s just another day. They fall in love before they even knew each other. Suppose to be an age gap and it’s mentioned a little but not in detail. How many years? I’m not sure I’m going to read the next one.

Crew and Sunshine were great in this novella. Her having just opened her bakery, thought she’d venture to the bar next door and introduce herself because that’s the June of person she is. Little does she know, the rival MC has his sights on her. Crew notices and decides he’ll protect her at whatever cost. Plus her really likes her and wants her to be his. I loved the danger and action in this. Crew and Sunshine were really good together.

Good Book

I loved the story of Prez and Sunshine. The storyline kept you wanting more. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because and I see this in alot of books these bikers don't do complete sentences when they talk.Silly maybe but how about an I to start a sentence not ..need you to lay down or can't live without you or gonna this or that.Sounds dumb but a pet peeve of mine...SORRY !

Very fast and deliciously filthy read ! This first book in the Gravel Kings MC Series took about an hour and a half to read. There’s a decent story along with the wickedly hot sex scenes. The characters are well written, but not much is given about the past of the Gravel Kings as a whole. This book primarily revolves around Crew and Sunshine and Crew’s past. 4✨’s for a fun & filthy read, just as promised.

Crew & Sunshine: not a bad story. very short insta romance involving kidnapping, assault and gun violence. Crew is the President of the MC and is a bit surprised when the curvy woman walks into their bar offering cinnamon rolls. he tries to push her away, until the bar is caught under fire. now Sunshine is under his protection, she's his, she just didn't know it. very steamy and I almost wished it was longer.

I read it, I actually liked the characters. But for the first in this genre it was too much like the MMC fell with his d*ck into the FMC.

Loved to have known more about Sunshines backstory, why the need to break free from her family, to prove she can live life like she wants to.

I probably would have gave this a 4⭐️ but I felt like the whole Mia aspect of the story was weird. He said multiple times Sunshine looked like Mia. Even the bad guy said I knew he’d go after you because you look like Mia. I also expected the story to be more oriented towards her family since they were mentioned a bunch in the first chapter or so but not a peep about them after that.

The Future

Her bakery is ready, she goes to the biker bar next door to be neighborly. They just laugh and stare. He walks up and tells her she should go. These two are really something, chemistry, stubbornness and she won’t back down. There’s chaos, danger and a rescue with an ending to melt your heart.
