February 16, 2015I really hope the man on the cover is changed I don't doubt the greatness of this book as you are an author I love, but sometimes a cover that doesn't live up to the perceived hotness of the male can turn me off even reading a book.

I will start out with I EFFING LOVED THIS BOOK! From start to finish I was invested in the storyline. Both AJ and James are easy to like and enjoyable to read about but what really grabbed me was how this author took a town and made me want to visit it and be a part of it. There's no doubt that the feeling that grabs you when she's writing about the areas these characters sight see comes from her love of the area. It just felt so personal and you feel so connected to Louisiana.
James Black...He is a little bit of everything rolled into one. He's Arrogant, Sexy and mysterious. He's lived his life in the spotlight and has grown accustomed to people making assumptions about who he is. He embraced the James Black life style and makes no apologies for it.
AJ Price is a spitfire! She oozes sass and the girl has style! She doesn't take any crap from anyone and is the best at what she does. She prides herself on her work and has worked hard to get where she is.
Throw the two of them together and you get a bunch of banter that will have you on your butt laughing wishing you were a fly on the wall watching. The chemistry between them is undeniable and has you rooting for them to conquer the world together.
Both bearing their own secrets, they have the challenge of can they really truly trust each other to move beyond a friendship. Sit back, snuggle up with a blanket and grab a glass off wine. This book will leave you not only hot and bothered from the steamy sex but leave you wanting more with every turn of the page!

James Black is a very personal book for me. Not because I'm involved with or have ever been involved with a movie star, but because Avangeline is largely based on well... me.
The book is a work of fiction but some instances are very real and very personal.
James Black is a very different book than my previous works and dabbles into Romantic Suspense.
It covers very important topics and shows you both the darkness and the light in people.
I hope you enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Holy hot, heated, hilarious, and heartfelt Hollywood love story! James Black is the first book I've read by Skye Turner and it is freaking amazing! From the first few pages, I was sucked in as this story squeezed out my feelings out like a lemon: happy tears, sad tears, smiles, laughter, and angst. I even wanted to both hug and throat-punch James Black a few times. This book is a riveting emotional roller coaster and I loved the ride!
Hollywood super star, James Black, with his brown tousled hair, ice blue eyes, and tall and muscular body is sex-on-a-stick and every woman's fantasy. He can have any woman he wants and women usually give him what he wants. Stuck in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he is filming a future box-office hit movie, he is thrown for a curveball when is dedicated driver for the 18 months of filming is a woman...and is super hot with a mouth that excites him from his brain to down below.
Beautiful, petite, curvy, red-streaked brunette, and amber-eyed Avangeline 'AJ' is a spitfire who chews men up and spits them out before they know what's hit them. She is a funny firecracker who throws out wicked words and wit like grenades.
"I was told you wanted a driver who wanted Louisiana history...If you want a bed mate, that's not me. ..I don't like your attitude and let's get something straight right now...one thing I don't tolerate is disrespect or male chauvinism. There are two sides to James Black: the hot shot actor who commands a following wherever he goes and lives up to his demanding, arrogant persona and the mysterious man whose past defines him way more than he would ever make public. The first personality is the one the media and society sees on a regular basis, and it's the one that's allowed James to make a name for himself. The later is one only a select few see because the wounds are too deep and there's more than him to think about when it comes to who James Black once was.
As the story begins and James meets his driver, Avangeline "AJ" Price, a smart and sassy woman who refuses to bow down to the handsome movie star, he realizes that he may just have met his match - someone who refuses to put up with his bullshit and loves to tell him like it is at every turn. At first, James and AJ's animosity for each other is all there is between them, but as they get to know each other and spend more time together, their walls drop a little bit and they start to see what's beneath their hardened exteriors.
Trust is a huge issue for any new couple, but it's essential for AJ because dishonesty is what forced her to construct her walls in the first place, leading her down a path where love wasn't something she would even consider. James has secrets that he holds close to the vest, and he understands what's at stake if they get exposed, but what he never counted on was meeting someone he wanted to tell those truths to and despite the risk and pain it may cause him, he knows he needs to come clean, even if, after the fact, it might cost him everything, including AJ.
I'm a huge Skye Turner fan; I adore her writing and the characters and storylines she creates. I really enjoyed James Black and the ever feisty AJ; the environment Skye stages her story in is also written well, allowing her readers to visual its aesthetics. Where I got a little tripped up in this one is with James' choices and actions towards the end of the book. On a certain level, I get the reasons he does what he does, but I have to admit, it gutted me because AJ gave him her heart freely, which was such a huge step for her, and he risked it all for what really - the past...the memories... But my reaction to the situation also speaks to Skye Turner as a writer because anytime a writer can pull out those kind of emotions from a reader, she does her job and she's done it well.

If you've read Skye Turner's Bayou Stix series, you know this woman can write a book. But if you're thinking this story will be similar, think again. This is her best book to date, and you know that's hard to top! She has everything in this book, and it will leave you both wanting more of James Black and blissfully satisfied that she gave you everything you needed to close the pages and sigh in contentment. Be sure to get this one... In true Skye fashion, she doesn't disappoint.

Holy sh!t. Skye has done it again. Can't wait for the next installment! Damn, she can write like no one's business. Great story, great love. I love the "personal" touches to it. Anyone who knows Skye and reads this book, will know exactly what I'm talking about.

I have read and enjoyed Ms Turner's Bayou Stix series so the chance to read the first in her new series James Black was a no brainer for me.
James Black is the Hollywood superstar that every woman wants - except one.
AJ - who he thought was going to be a man - takes an instant dislike to the man when she first meets him. And I have to say I don't blame her.
He is an arrogant man when it comes to women, and I cheered for AJ as she gave him what for.
You know where this is going right? Dislike turns to lust turns to like turns to love. There is nothing new or exciting in the plot line. We have all read the rock/movie star-wins-normal-girl/guy story before.
AJ is the star of this book, not James Black. I could love him or leave him. AJ is sassy, smart mouthed, but stronger than she looks. I cannot blame her for her anti-man feelings, why she has trust issues with people.
So, can AJ and James get over their differences and their issues and make a go of a relationship? Will they find love? Can they have a HEA?
Nope for that you need to read for yourself.
I love the imagery that Ms Turner puts into her writing. I could imagine myself looking over the river and the swamps, looking at the Capitol building in Baton Rouge (this little Aussie was there a few months ago!), the sights and sounds of a sound stage.
There is another James Black novel coming (Becoming James Black) but you can read this as a standalone.

Leaving your new girlfriend’s bed after sleeping with her - who confided in you about her cheating ex-husband and how devastated his betrayal made her - to travel to another city to your best friend/lover knowing that you’ll most likely sleep with her (his own words) after your promise to the heroine to not do that to her and actually having very hot sex with your BF ( it’s always like that with them,, no slow burn just raging inferno - also his words, words like furious coupling, bruising her hip, can’t take it anymore were used too ) without the heroine ONCE crossing your mind until after the deed. You completely forgot about her that it actually took you a second to realize why you feel like screaming after you screwed her over…
I don’t care about him not sleeping with someone else in the separation period because she didn’t too although he seems to share some “friendly” kisses with his “best friend” on the mouth occasionally.. That girl (even though will be getting married) is always going to be in their lives, the hero even says how she and the h are his best girls :/ and wants them to be friends… I can’t even…
And I’m sorry, his terrible past with his BF doesn’t excuse anything..
James Black,,, I don’t trust you and you’re a far cry from what a hero should be.. you’re kinda the definition of once a cheater always a cheater, I’m not one of the readers who likes to predict a negative future for the MCs, I hate doing that because I always hope for the best but the way the cheating happened, the fact that he went there knowing it will happen, knowing he was going to crush the girl he cared about,, he wasn’t even drunk at the moment and he never hesitated for a second he just went for it and even dropped the first kiss.. I can totally see you having a fight with AJ and going straight to Scarlett even if she’s married and succumbing to that "raging inferno”.

Author Skye Turner has another hit on her hands. If you have never read one of her books then you are in for a good book Skye draws you into the book so much that you just can’t help but to fall in love with the characters. I was given James Black as an ARC and once I started it I could not put it down I had to keep reading to see what was going to happens next and what secrets still needed to be told. So first you have James Black who you assume is an arrogant, playboy movie star but he is many things once you get to know him. Then you have Avangeline (AJ) who you assume is a sassy, tell you how it is driver when she really is a sweetheart but she has so many walls up you have to watch out for her sharp tongue. From the first moment James and AJ met there are sparks and not all the romantic ones they teach you a lot about making assumptions about people as well. James and AJ have trails that they both have to work through as there is in every book but you will not believe some of the turns. I can’t wait for the next book in this series and this book is 5 stars all the way.

I Loved this... James Black is nothing short of perfection. Their story takes a hold and will not let go. Skye Turner is Amazing.
This is my very first read by Skye Turner.. I know, I know, I am horrible where the hell have I been?
James and Avangeline are trying to overcome their past. James is an arrogant hot shot movie star. Avangeline is nothing more than a hired driver who has been contracted to drive Mr. Black around. Their story is amazing. I will say I was just a tad bit well way more than a tad bit upset with Mr. Black. I am not going to say why. You will have to read the book to find out why. More importantly you will want to read James Black. I can not wait for book 2. Now I have to hope onto amazon and buy the Bayou Stix series I can not wait to get started on them.

Let me start by saying this review is hard to write without spoilers...
James Black he is loved by everyone and is cocky enough to know it. AJ Price is proud of her job as a driver and takes no crap from anyone. She is beautiful yet tough. I loved the banter between them it had my laughing through the entire book, but then you have the secrets. They are each holding back and yet wondering where their new found feelings are coming from.
Skye Turner amazes me with each book, in this one she took a city that you can tell she loves, New Orleans, and made the book so great. Both characters were amazingly written and I was left wanting more.

AJ was one of my all time favorite female leads. She is sassy and full of flare! She kicks ass and takes names. You are drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Reminds me of Skye herself.

Overall I was disappointed with this book. Main one is the way it finished and Ive found out there is a book 2 Becoming James Black which I assume is the background of his and Scarlett's story. The book was due out in May but no sign of it? I didn't find it particularly sexual despite what the blurb says.

LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!! It was a great mix of love and steamy sex. James Black is an actor at the height of his career, but he isn’t so lucky in his personal life…at least not in love. He is filming on location in Louisiana when he meets AJ, who has been hired to be his personal driver. WOW…what a first meeting! She already has a preconceived notion about him, and it’s not positive. The first time he opens his mouth to talk to her, it’s not good! It just causes her to dislike him even more. As they spend more time together, their hidden attraction and feelings toward each other begin to become evident. As with any good romance, will they give into their feelings for each other? There was so much I liked about this book, even from the very beginning. Of course, I loved the sarcastic banter between them, and it added to the sexual tension and chemistry they had. But, I really enjoyed the friendship between them too! It just added to their romance and made it more real. When a writer can connect me to his or her characters, it connects me to the story. And, Skye did that for me. Even though James was a successful actor, I got to see his insecurities and the downside of being famous, such as lack of privacy and being judged as a person because of what people read in magazines. AJ was awesome…such a spitfire. Life has knocked her down, but she has kept her head up and continued to live her life. That is my favorite kind of heroine!
I also thought Skye’s humor really came through her characters as well. There were times when James and AJ were talking or arguing, and I would laugh out loud. It was also very evident how much she loves her state of Louisiana. I loved the little snippets she gave me about Louisiana, like The Myrtles Plantation, one of the most haunted places in America (which by the way…I have the book that tells the story of that plantation). And did I mention the food? YUM!!!! Not only did she have me waiting anxiously for the next book in the series, but she has me wanting to plan a trip to Louisiana! Great job, Skye!

THIS BOOK!!!! I LOVED IT!
This story had me from the prologue. I needed to know more about James Black. I had a feeling he had a story to tell, but I had no clue how emotional it was.
I knew I would love AJ as soon as I met her! She was a spitfire, and she took no crap from anyone. My kind of girl;) I like how she wasn't all starstruck when it came to James. Sure, she knew he was HOT (and I mean HAWT), but she "tried" to keep it professional.
There were so many laugh out loud moments! Skye Turner has a brilliant way of bringing humor into a story. The banter between AJ and James was great!
She also has a way of writing some mighty, steamy scenes. Grab a fan and cold drink...you're going to need it! I mean, WHOA! Brings new meaning to the phrase "Baby, you can drive my car." Lawdy mercy!

Could not get enough of this book! I really didn't want it to end!
James and AJ both have a story to tell. They both have reasons for not getting too close. But fate is funny. Sometimes things just fall into place when you least expect it.

Skye Turner novel titled Jack Black. Skye is an successful romance writer. Jack Black was phenomenal. The writer had me sold and totally invested immediately. She has a pure talented in grabbing the reader and keeping them there throughout the story. For me personally I need to be taken in fast and she did an immaculate job. Skye also has a keen sense of connecting the reader to the characters, the scenery the tone was PERFECT! When reading both POV you feel the reality of the story. Reading is my joy I do it daily and the way this author writes you just know she was born to do this. Also, the romance and sexuality in this book was over par. It was hot yet real. I totally recommended readers to start this series. Waiting for book 2 is going to be hard but well worth the wait.
I will also like to applaud Skye for he writing style the story flowed well and was an easy read. It was edited perfectly and that is a big thing when reading.

I loved this book! James Black was my first Skye Turner read but is just the beginning of a love afair with her books for me. This book captures your attention from the very start and reels you in to make you keep reading it.
AJ is a native Louisianian and favorite driver to the stars when in town and James is a Hollywood screen legend with a mouth that tends to set people on edge. He thinks people should all know and love him and sometimes that just isn't the case....
AJ (Avengeline) is spunky, fiery and takes no prisoners. Her quick response to anything James says to get her goat just eggs him on further- he cannot resist engaging that red hot temper of hers. This push and pull between them makes for a very entertaining and awesome read. It was a quick one for me, as I was unable to put it down when I opened it, and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
Something else to love about James Black, aside from the chemistry and fabulous character development of not just James and AJ but also Scarlet (loved her!) but that you are allowed a history lesson on the great state of Louisiana several times in the book when AJ takes James around to view the sites. You get some great insight and background about the Capital and other Baton Rouge monuments and I did not know Le Bon Temps and vampires were made up! Damn you True Blood! ;)
Honestly, it makes a huge difference in the enjoyment of a book to have it well thought out, well developed, a great plot and good editing and this one had all of that to me. Looking forward to book two and the continuation of this series. I would highly recommend James Black and anything Skye Turner going forward. Five stars.

James Black might be use to women throwing themselves at his feet, but AJ is not so easily swayed. The smart mouthed Black finds himself quickly ‘put in his place’ when AJ gets behind the wheel. The inattentiveness of AJ intrigues James. He soon finds himself unable to stop thinking about the unconventional woman that has quickly become a part of his life.
Author Skye Turner has written a romance with a unique twist on the Hollywood hunk. The banter between the two characters was humorous and engaging. The first part of the story was a little slower than I would have liked. However - things quickly heated up between AJ and James. As the past rears it’s head in unusual ways, AJ and James struggle to find a way to make things work.
The two have an insta-romance that is unconventional. Despite the insta-love their romance is off the charts HOT!! There were a few things that I would have liked to have seen between the couple….more of a filling in the blanks on a ‘time’ in their lives (can’t say what without giving away the plot on this one!!). James Black is a sweet romance with a predictable plot. It doesn’t however take away from the book. The build up between AJ and James will leave readers wanting to know more about the couple in the end.

I was given James Black as an ARC and once I started it I could not stop. First of all let me start be saying I am already a huge fan of Skye Turner's work. Her writing is amazing. Not only can she make the temperature rise in a room but she can also send you on an emotional roller coaster with each page you turn. James Black is just more proof that Skye has found her calling. This book is amazing. There are so many "personal" touches to this book. You can tell that Skye has poured herself into. Anyone who knows Skye in person will see that right from the start. I can’t wait for the next book in this series and this book is without a doubt 5 stars!

This book had me from start to finish. Skye has done it again with the start of another series that you're going to love!!
James is a famous actor and Avangeline hates anything that has to do with famous!! So putting these two together from the start is a challenge. Nothing James says or does is anything that Avangeline wants anything to do with, she hates that she is attracted to him and that he might just turn out to be a pretty decent guy.
Skye had to have had so much fun with these two characters they do and say so many things that just had me cracking up. There is humor, and HOT sex and plenty of moments that will melt your heart.. This is a book that you don't want to miss .. Especially if you're a fan of Skye's.
Thank you for giving me the chance to read this for you, it was an honor. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I am lucky enough to be a beta reader for Mrs. Turner and was able to read this book early. This book was not what I was expecting, but in a fantastic way. I have read every book Mrs. Turner has put out and this series is going to be something different. I LOVED her Bayou Stix series to death! I'm also LOVING James Black so far. This is a wonderful book to start this series.
James Black is movie star who is always in the spotlight. So that means you should know everything about him, right? Not quite. There is more to this mysterious man that meets the eye and there is much more than the "asshole" he's perceived to be.
Avangeline Price is a little bit different. What you see is what you get and what you get is a no nonsense girl. She tells you how it is and doesn't care who you are. She is strong and independent.
What happens when these two come together? FIREWORKS, that's what! They aren't perfect but they're perfect together. They absolutely compliment each other is amazing ways. You will laugh and you will cry. There are some very serious moments that took my breath away. I was not expecting what happened to happen. I have wavered between a 3 and 4 star rating for James Black, but its is Skye Turner’s ability to reshape two characters whom I felt indifferent towards, into individuals whose happily ever after I craved.
The fact that the story is not a case of love at first sight, helps the evolution of both the story and the characters. At the beginning, both James and AJ are defined by their aloofness and confidence in their own abilities; James as an actor and AJ as a driver. The more time they spend in each other’s company, the more they open up, revealing their insecurities, interests, and past relationships.
Both characters crave a monogamous relationship. For AJ, it is because of how she was treated by her ex and James wants to be able to prove his commitment to her. Yet it is the secrets which James is hiding which prevent him from being able to express his feelings so simply. James’ story does not only concern him and Skye Turner tries to shock the reader as he reveals the truth. For me, this revelation is a little too (unintentionally) close to a book I had just finished and I was not as surprised as I might have been previously.
I am now eager to start Skye Turner’s Bayou Stix series and James Black’s sequel. She perfectly captures the atmosphere of her hometown, Baton Rouge, as well as creating a story which fans of contemporary romance will fall in love with.

I have followed Author Skye Turner on social media for quite some time. Loving her videos and posts, however, for an unknown reason I've never read any of her books. I know I am a terrible blogger and reader if I've not read these books. Thank goodness I am no longer a Skye Turner virgin thanks to the wonderfully written James Black. I have to say I read this book in one day - I couldn't put it down. I am a sucker for movie stars and James Black as a character falls into that category. He is rich, hot powerfully but also a self-proclaimed asshole. But an asshole I couldn't help but love. AJ is a firecracker with strong walls built up around her heart. Together this couple have instant chemistry - the sparks certainly fly between them. They are also argumentative but this at times is humorous. However secrets, lies, ex partners, so called best friends cause these two amazing characters to find bumps in their story. Can they get past the lies? I love the addition of the puppy. This allowed us to see the softer side of James. I could continue on and on about this great book, but I know no one wants long reviews so I'll finish by apologizing to Skye for being a newcomer to her books and promise that I'm now going to one click the 1st book in the Bayou Stix series. This is another enjoyable read by Skye Turner. I do love her writing and was hooked on the Bayou Stix series. So I hoped I would get an ARC of this, for the blog. I really liked it. It did take a little while, about 20% for me to really get into it.
Avangeline, or AJ, is a very spunky, sarcastic character. I loved it. She has a "take no shit" attitude, and she will put you in your place if she needs to. She is a driver at Top Notch Transport. She has just gotten hired to drive around James Black, a big-time movie star who is filming in Louisiana. Just what she needs, a freaking movie star!
James Black is the IT movie star. He is always in the tabloids and does come across as a major asshole.
I did laugh at AJ and James when they met for the first time. I'm surprised she didn't slap the hell out of him. I will admit, I didn't like him for about the first half of the book.
These two end up perfect for each other though.

This was an interesting and sexy story that I really enjoyed. James Black is a hot actor with a man-whore reputation. He's in Louisiana for an extended period of time shooting a series of films, and has asked for a driver to him to and from work, as well as show him the area. Avangeline (AJ) Price is a red-head spit-fire who is assigned as James' driver. She's not impressed with who he is, and he actually gets pretty pissed off at her for her assumptions about him by reading tabloids. As they get to know each other, they find they actually like each other and end up having a fling. Both James and AJ have been hurt in the past, and James has some secrets and, as expected, everything comes crashing down on them both. I liked James and AJ, as well as the supporting characters. The story was interesting and different, and sexy as well (although I wouldn't have objected if it was even more sexy.) I see there is a sequel coming out since it seemed like things were wrapped up in one book (I love you for this Skye Turner!!)- not sure what it's going to be about, but I'll be interested in reading it.

I have been highly anticipating this book for months. Skye has been killing me with her little social media snippets (you’re a tease woman). I was worried that I had been passed over for my chance to read, but the book gods were smiling upon me and I got my chance. Holy Effing Cow! I agree that the Bayou Stix Series was amazing, however I must say that this is definitely my favorite book by this author so far. Oddly, I went into this book expecting to really dislike James for some reason but as I read I just couldn’t. I do believe that man could charm the panties off of a nun and strangely, I really enjoyed the fact that he was my age. **wink, wink** Avangeline was freaking amazing. Skye definitely appealed to my love of strong, sassy talking, kick a$$ heroines. I definitely saw some of the author herself coming through in this character. I am really loving how my favorite authors are stepping outside of their comfort zones and changing things up a bit in their writing. This book was no exception to that testament and whether you have been a fan of this author or not, I highly recommend that you check this book out. I can’t wait to see what’s up next in this series.
