Once in a Blue Moon

Rate this book
From the international bestselling author of PACK UP THE MOON and OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE SKY

Winnie Smith was never supposed to be that woman. She’s the responsible sister, the behind-the-scenes event planner, the one who avoids drama at all costs. So how did she end up publicly branded as the other woman—and promptly canceled by the Mommy Mafia of Cape Cod? One disastrous relationship, a missing background detail, and suddenly Winnie’s quiet life is in shambles.

Enter Lorenzo Santini, the world-renowned surgeon, feared and revered by colleagues, with zero patience for incompetence and life’s ordinary tasks. Known to hospital staff as Dr. Satan, Lorenzo needs a personal assistant—and Winnie needs a fresh start. It’s strictly business…until it isn’t.

As Winnie manages Lorenzo’s demanding schedule and carefully guarded life, she discovers there’s more beneath his intimidating exterior than arrogance and ambition. And Lorenzo begins to see that Winnie is anything but invisible.

Once in a blue moon, two people who seem to have nothing in common could turn out to be perfect for each other after all.

This was just terrific. So often when an author continues the stories of quirky or unconventional characters, they undergo a transformation in the second book. I guess to make them easier to write about or more fit the mold of a romantic hero or heroine. Not so in this one. Dr. Satan is just as arrogant and obnoxious as ever, and I was turning pages to see if Kristan could manage to make him fall in love and be lovable without compromising the integrity of his personality. She succeeds brilliantly.

After reading Look on the Bright side, I had no real desire to read a book about Dr. Satan aka Dr. Lorenzo Santini. Apparently I was in the vast minority. I was, however, very amenable to revisiting the Smith family and having the boring sensible sister as the heroine. Pairing the two together was perfect. In a family of 3 beautiful and accomplished sisters and a charming handsome brother, Winnie (Windsor) was ‘the other one”: Not beautiful and not brilliant. No one can even remember her name. In a typical KH running joke, Her brother teases her about this affectionately: “Winnebago,” “Winona” “Winster-the-Spinster” “Winipedia,” “Window”, “Winfrey,” “Windmill” “Winnipeg”. … yes, I think that’s all of them. But everyone loves her and depends on her, because she is the most competent person in Christendom. She has made being a “behind the scenes” person work for her.

When her party planning business collapses through no fault of her own, Winnie is hired as the personal assistant of the world renowned surgeon and former fake fiancé of her older sister Lark. He needs someone who can keep his life in order so he can focus on being brilliant. He is intimidating, demanding, cold and is the definition of "arrogant."
Was he really supposed to go to Whole Foods to buy kale when he could be, oh, saving a life? Teaching future doctors? Writing a paper that would change the way a procedure would be done, therefore raising patient survival rates?... He…didn’t want to have to call the florist himself to order flowers for his mother’s birthday. It was enough that he even remembered his mother’s birthday. Most years, he even called.

Winnie is not intimidated. She knows her worth, and it is not long before Dr. Satan does too. She becomes his right arm and virtually indispensable. She is so good at her job, that Lorenzo realizes that eventually she will organize herself out of his life, no longer having to constantly be at his side to keep his life on an even keel. And that bothers him. He doesn’t know why it bothers him, but it does.

It is a very slow burn romance, and perfectly paced. Dr. Satan (“I’ve been working for you for a month now, can I just call you Satan?”) may start to show some vulnerabilities, sensitivity, and a sense of humor, but then he will do or say something to prove once again he will never quite get off “the spectrum” completely. Things do blow up a few times, (how could they not?) but Kristan never does the predictable thing, to my great relief. Winnie always saves the day with her aversion to drama and unshakeable good sense. I loved her, never more so when she forgets she is the steady predictable one. And yes, she does do that, but only on occasion, and usually under the influence of alcohol.

As always, Kristan’s ability to make you laugh, then touch your heart, make her one of my top 5 favorite authors. One of the few who has never disappointed me the least little bit. This book is described as a novella, but it doesn’t read like one. Her later books are more “women’s fiction” than romance and are great. But this one is unabashedly a romance. And one of her most romantic ones. It is a little shorter because she took a metaphorical red pencil to most of the "women's fiction” stuff, but somehow left a lot of depth on the page.

Once in a Blue Moon by Kristan Higgins
Contemporary romance. Spectrum.
Winnie Smith life and business blows up when she finds out the man she’s been seeing is married. She did research him but he used a different name and she’s caught unaware. Ready to get back to work, she agrees to be a personal assistant to a doctor. She schedules his travel, organizes his house, meals and more. She’s not afraid or concerned about his abrupt behavior and he notices the positive impact she’s had on his life. A misstep, and they have decisions to make on how, or even if, they can move forward.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook narrated by Xe Sands. The performance is clear and consistent throughout the story and as it progresses, we can feel Winnie’s determination and optimism. There are distinct voices for the two main characters as well as the favorite grandfather. The recording is easy to listen to and as it speeds by, the characters come to life and gives the reader a front seat to the growing closeness between Winnie and Lorenzo.

Winnie is strong and though her heart took a beating, she’s positive and organized and ready to help her new client optimize his skills.
I loved her strength and resilience. She’s going to be okay whatever happens, and if that is in love with Dr Satin, then life is perfect.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and RB Media.

This was too short to be satisfying.
Grumpy meets sunshine where the woman is too perfect.

Desperate for a fresh start, Winnie takes a job as a personal assistant to Lorenzo Santini, a world-renowned, intimidating surgeon known to hospital staff as "Dr. Satan" due to his zero-tolerance for incompetence.

Lorenzo is clearly portrayed as autistic, the more stereotypical kin where he’s brilliantly clever but has the emotional intelligence of Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. Then Winnie comes along and manages to penetrate his shell and makes him realise he has big feelings.

I think what irked me was how perfect and likeable Winnie was. She was sometimes rude and acted in a manner I would have expected backlash against. However, she’s portrayed as too good for her actions to be anything other than right.

There was a lot of opportunity for conflict and growth, but this is only expected from Lorenzo who struggles with social norms.

It felt like this book was a follow-up to something else where we missed the prequel to Winnie’s life.

As soon as I wrote that paragraph, I did some research. This is apparently part of a series. This was not indicated by the blurb or marketing prior to publishing. Regardless, standalone romances should still feel like a full story.

I also wasn’t a fan of the audiobook narrator. She had a lovely voice, but it was very breathy and up and down in cadence which made it hard to process. It didn’t follow the usual beats of a sentence.

This is a review of the audiobook performed by XE Sands.

This is a book that I didn’t know that I needed. Kristan Higgins is one of my favorite authors. This book is everything!

This book features Winnie and Lorenzo/ Dr. Satan. Her sister is Lark from Look On The Bright Side. Dr. Satan was also featured prominently in that book. Lorenzo is a gifted surgeon. Their families are connected. Her sister is married to his brother Dante.

Yes it’s possible to read this without having read Look On The Bright Side. However this book is so connected to that one. I would highly recommend reading them in order.

Winnie starts out this book as an event planner. When something unexpected happens to her she is offered a job as Lorenzo’s assistant.

I loved this book so much. I highly recommend listening to it. The audiobook is phenomenal! I’m obsessed with XE Sands. This is my first time listening to her. She is unbelievable!

I loved getting Winnie’s story. But I also loved getting to see Lark and Dante again. And I loved getting to see more of Lorenzo.

I loved everything about this book. And even had some emotional tears listening to this incredible story.

Thanks to RB Media, Recorded Books and netgalley for allowing me to listen to this amazing book

I’m not crying! 😭 You are! 🥹🩷

So, for those of you who already follow me, you know that I ADORE Kristan Higgins’ Books!
So, when I saw this come up on NetGalley about a week ago, I immediately requested it! And, lucky for me! My wish was granted!! 🩷🩷. So, thank you #NetGalley!!

And, another absolutely beautiful story from Ms. Higgins! AND… we have the return of a few characters from other books… which I LOVE!!

Winnie Smith, one of a whole gaggle of kids, and who is often noted as unremarkable … as she is quietly taking care of EVERYTHING in the background, shines in this short novel as the MFC.
She FINALLY meets a man who steels her heart! And she’s head over heels…👠 Unfortunately for her, his heart isn’t really available… 😩
As she is forced into a public display that she never wanted to be a part of, well, in one minute… the whole trajectory of her life is changed! And she is miserable…
She WAS…a remarkable events planner. One that any and everyone wanted… until that moment.
Now, she must start over. Like… from the ground up… 😮

Dr. Lorenzo Santini, aka Dr. Satan, is an incredible surgeon with a rep and a million letters after his name. But, the one thing he really needs in life is more time. Or… maybe someone who can arrange his schedule so that he might be able to have some more free time. And… Winnie is suggested. 😉
They meet. Neither of them are very impressed with the other… but, he decides to give her a try.
To his utter surprise, she is amazing! His life has NEVER run smoother. And, she’s easy to talk to!

As they navigate this new path, friendships are formed, and the boundaries begin to crumble… just a little.

But, just when you think that they might have a happily ever after, well, the rug is RIPPED out from under them! 😢

This one will make you laugh! (“Well, if I’m working for Dr. Satan, does that make me Head Demon”?) And then make you cry.😢… And then make you all love-infused and teary-eyed…. Until your heart just breaks. 💔
And did I mention there a dog? And then make you beach?

Wonderful. Insightful. True! (As a RN with ICU/CCU/PACU experience, I can tell you that that GOD Complex with the surgeons is VERY accurate!) Beautiful. Sweet. And…so much more!

All the stars for me!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨✨✨✨✨🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💫💫💫💫💫

This is a lovely story or two unexpected people coming together and filling in the gaps they didnt know they had in their lives. Both main characters have strangely unlikeable and yet lovable personalities. They compliment each other perfectly and also balance out the others awkwardness.

I loved much change occurred for both characters. The FMC goes from being a disaster with low expectations on how her life should go to being a confident, self assured, complete woman. The MMC goes from thinking his life is perfect to seeing everything he was missing. Both helping the other achieve a more balance, happier life without realizing it and falling in love during the process. I adored their story!
Also, these are grown ups! In their 30s and 40s so thats a bonus!

There’s something so comforting about returning to a familiar world, and Once in a Blue Moon by Kristan Higgins delivered exactly that for me. While you absolutely don’t need to read the connected books to enjoy this one, longtime fans will appreciate the little threads that tie everything together—especially getting to see beloved characters again (yes, Grandpop 🥹). Higgins has such a gift for creating communities that feel warm, lived in, and full of heart, and stepping back into Winnie’s world felt like coming home.

Winnie is such an easy character to root for, she’s the responsible, behind the scenes sister who suddenly finds herself at the center of unwanted drama. Watching her rebuild after being unfairly labeled and judged was both frustrating and empowering in the best way. And then there’s Lorenzo—aka Dr. Satan—who was such a fun surprise here. Seeing him soften, layer by layer, and getting a deeper look into who he really is made his dynamic with Winnie incredibly satisfying. Their boss/employee relationship evolving into something more was slow, sweet, and filled with those little moments that just work.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Xe Sands and she was, as always, an absolute joy. Her performance added so much depth and personality to both Winnie and Lorenzo, bringing out the humor, tenderness, and emotional beats beautifully. And Winnie’s family? Truly one of the highlights, so loving, warm, and supportive, it made being back with them feel extra special. Honestly, my only complaint is that I wanted more. Higgins never misses for me, and I would happily stay in this world a little longer.

Hey, hi, remember me? Remember I said I really don’t like romances? And yiu know I fall in love with fictional men sometimes regardless of my unromantic streak? Well colour me an absolute hypocrite I loved this, I even caught myself doing a very cutesy girly scrunchy nose thing. Yuck! 🤣

In all seriousness though, this was perfect for me, it was obvious what the outcome would be and I just didn’t mind at all, I actually raced my way through it to get to that part, then at The End I was really disappointed, not in the book but in the fact there was no more of it. Turns out emotionally unavailable Dr’s nicknamed Satan are entirely my thing 🤷🏻‍♀️ who knew?! Not me that’s for sure.

Great narration, although I did slow down a big from my usual listen speed.

Huge thanks to RB Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this ALC 🎧

I love Kristan Higgins! This was such a fun book (knew it would be) and I really wish some more members of this family would their stories told. We first met Dr Santino (Satan) in the preceding story (Look on the Bright Side), so when I found out this book is his and Winnie’s story, I jumped at the chance to get it, and I was lucky enough to get the audiobook.

Winnie has just been through a nasty breakup, which caused her business to tank due to the wronged wife making an announcement, in public no less, that Winnie had been having an affair with her husband. Poor Winnie didn’t know the guy was married, bless her heart, and it was a pretty nasty scene. When she has the chance to go to work for Dr Satan, the renowned surgeon, as his personal assistant, she’s grateful for the job, and she is the perfect solution for his life. He NEEDS someone like her. How, there’s a reason the residents call him Dr Satan!

I highly recommend, and read the other one first if you can. The audiobook was divine. Xe Sands does both of them.

I’m rating it as five stars!

I enjoyed that this romance featured a neurodivergent surgeon and an underdog. Missing a smidge of depth for me (likely because it was so short), but still cute overall.

I’ve been a Kristan Higgins fan for a while now, and Once in a Blue Moon reminded me exactly why I keep coming back to her. She has a way of writing characters that feel genuinely real, and this book is no exception.

First, I thought Xe Sands’ narration was good. She has a warmth and natural quality that fits the FMC perfectly, and the production from RB Media is exactly what I’ve come to expect from them. Good narration really does elevate a book, and this one delivered. I find I have to set the narration speed faster for Sands’ narration, but once that tweak is made, it’s smooth sailing.

What I loved most about the book is the humor and heart. She never lets one completely take over the other, and that balance is what makes her books so easy to get lost in. I got really invested in the FMC here. She’s the kind of character who has been doing everything right for everyone else for so long that watching her finally get her own moment feels really satisfying. The MMC was definitely giving neurodivergent vibes, and was rooting for him. This is a slow burn romance that has a satisfying pay-off.

If you’re already a Higgins fan, you’ll like this book. And if you’ve never read her, this is a perfectly good place to start.

Thank you to RB Media and NetGalley for the ARC.

I absolutely loved this book! Kristan Higgins is one of my all time favorite authors. Returning to the Smith family was pretty seamless as I quickly remembered who was who. You can read this as a stand alone but it’s so much better to have read the other books about this family. I laughed so many times while reading this and was sad when it was over.

This was such an easy, comforting listen for me. No surprises, your typical romance book.

Once in a Blue Moon feels less like a big dramatic romance and more like a quiet, character driven story about rebuilding your life after everything kind of falls apart. And honestly… that worked for me.

Winnie was so easy to root for. She’s the responsible one, the one who avoids drama, and suddenly she’s thrown into the middle of it and completely misunderstood. I felt her frustration so much. Watching her slowly rebuild her confidence and figure out her next step felt very real and very grounded.

And then there’s Lorenzo… aka Dr. Satan, which I will never get over. He’s intense, blunt, socially awkward, and not the easiest character to love at first, but I actually liked that about him. He doesn’t suddenly change, he just softens in small, believable ways, and their relationship grows from that. It’s definitely more of a slow burn and very character focused.

The audiobook narration by Xe Sands really worked for me. Her voice is calm and easy to listen to, and she captured Winnie’s warmth and resilience so well. It made this feel like one of those audiobooks you can just settle into.

I will say this isn’t a super plot heavy story, and the pacing can feel a little slow, especially in the middle. But if you’re in the mood for something more low key, emotional, easy to read and centered on the characters, it really delivers.

Overall, this felt like a soft, second chance kind of story. Not overwhelming, not overly dramatic, just a solid, heartfelt romance with characters that feel real.

Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for the audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"The right person will know your value."

"...the way she seemed to like him just the way he was."

"My life feels very gray these days without you."

The uplifting Once In A Blue Moon, by bestselling contemporary romance author Kristan Higgins, is a delightful love story about two people who never should have fallen in love.

Winnie is part of a large loving family but has always felt like the one who is less than the rest of them. She's not the prettiest or the smartest, so she believes. When her event planning business goes under after being accused by her client of sleeping with her husband, Winnie is devastated that she didn't know he was married and was genuinely falling in love with the cheater. In one day she loses her livelihood, her boyfriend and her hopes of not being alone. "The world was built for couples."

Enter Dr. Lorenzo "Satan" Santini, a brilliant surgeon with no tolerance for mistakes in medicine or life, who needs an assistant. Winnie needs a job. Lorenzo goes through assistants every 3 months. They are never up to his standards. But Winnie puts his home in order, brings color to his drab home and accompanies him to surgical conventions. Lorenzo is confused about his sudden need to rush home after work and Winnie is afraid of finding herself unemployed and alone again if she gives in to her feelings for Lorenzo.

The always awesome voice actress Xe Sands brings her usual high standards of vulnerability, humor and conflict through her prolific voice acting talent.

I loved Winnie getting her confidence back and her convictions in her own beauty and brains as she puts Lorenzo's life in order and yet shakes up his structured world.

Once in a blue moon two lost people find their way to each other and it's a burst of sunshine.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from RBMedia/Recorded Books via NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

3.5 ⭐️ This was my 3rd Kristan Higgins book and I was pleasantly surprised it was from the same world as Look on the Bright Side. In this story, Dr. Satan aka Lorenzo Santini and the Smith family are back! After being publicly branded the "other woman" and canceled by her Cape Cod community, event planner Winnie Smith takes a job as the personal assistant to a brilliant but abrasive surgeon (Dr. Satan), finding an unexpected new beginning. This was a very cute addition to these two families for their HEA but it was way too short! I love Kristan’s books because she creates the perfect balance of women’s contemporary and adorable yet layered romances, yet this story seemed very rushed since it was so short and it left me wanting more from the story. Overall, it was cute and funny but also pretty predictable. I would have loved a longer and more developed story. The conflict resolution at the end felt particularly rushed, I would have loved an epilogue considering this was such a slow burn and more time with the leads would have been nice. I still very much enjoyed having some of our favorite characters back with plenty of time with Winnie and Lorenzo’s siblings. I was graciously gifted an ALC narrated by Xe Sands and she does a phenomenal job with these stories, per usual. She executed Winnie and Lorenzo’s no non-sense humor with the perfect amount of wit where the jokes and tension really landed. While this can certainly be read as a standalone, I’d highly recommend picking up Look on the Bright Side first, you can then treat this book as one long Epilogue. This is a very quick one sitting read that was a ton of fun but wasn’t my favorite overall story.

TLDR:
* Opposites, grumpy x sunshine
* Neurodivergence and type A personalities
* Slow Burn Romance
* Loving and intrusive families
* Of course there’s a dog
* Beautiful settings

This was my 39th book of 2026

I really enjoyed this one!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for my advanced listening copy of Once in a Blue Moon by Kristan Higgins.

I actually stumbled across this on NetGalley and immediately got excited seeing Kristan Higgins had a new release and then when I saw it was narrated by Xe Sands, I knew I had to request it. She always does a phenomenal job, and her voice is just so pleasant and easy to listen to.

Once in a Blue Moon serves as a companion novel to Look on the Bright Side, which I read a couple of years ago with a friend and absolutely loved (5 stars : highly recommend!). It was fun returning to this world.

This book pulled me in right away and started with a bang. I was instantly invested in Winnie and the drama surrounding her career. She’s such a likable, vibrant character. Full of personality and spunk. She made this story such a joy to read. I found myself smiling often and even laughing out loud a few times. The humor really landed for me.

I also loved Winnie’s dynamic with “Doctor Satan.” He definitely wasn’t my favorite in the previous book, but this felt like a great redemption arc. Their connection worked so well, and I appreciated how Winnie could see through to the best parts of him.

And I can’t not mention Winnie’s family. They were everything. Warm, supportive, and exactly the kind of family that gives you all the cozy, feel good moments.

Overall, this was such an entertaining read from start to finish. It’s a quick, engaging story that was exactly what I needed at the time. I’m so glad I picked this one up and prioritized it.

I’ll definitely be diving into more of Kristan Higgins’ backlist and keeping an eye out for future releases.

Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for the audiobook of Once In A Blue Moon by Kristan Higgins! Unfortunately, the narration didn’t work for me ☹️ it felt like the enunciation was a bit muddy and I found myself turning the volume up and popping in both AirPods just to catch everything.

The story itself was good, just a little too short for my taste. I loved Winnie and the neurodivergent surgeon Dr. “Satan” a.k.a. Dr. Lorenzo Santini, he totally won me over by the end.

Winnie Smith was a responsible woman, an event planner, one who just wants to blend into the background and do her job. She hasn't been in a serious relationship, so when a local chef/restauranteur pays attention to her, she becomes seriously involved with him. She was not expecting that he was married with children, and the birthday party she was planning is for his son. When she is outed as a home wrecker at the party, she is canceled and she ends up closing her business. She doesn't know what to do next, but she needs to find a job. Her sister, Lark, is married to Dante Santini who we met in Look on the Bright Side. Dante's brother, Lorenzo Santini is a world-renowned surgeon and needs a PA/housekeeper. Lorenzo is known as Dr. Satan for his zero patience for anyone he feels is incompetent and his curt, dry, personality. Lark suggests he hire Winnie for the job, so he agrees to give her a try. Winnie does an exceptional job for Lorenzo, and as they spend more time together, she sees that there is more to him than arrogance, and he sees that she is an amazing woman, who challenges him and makes him laugh. Can these two opposites be right for each other?

I loved this story. Dr Lorenzo Santini, aka Dr. Satan, is probably on the autism spectrum. He is brilliant, and he knows it. He has to have everything just so and has not patience for anyone who is perfect at their job. He fired the landscaper/gardener because there were a few weeds in the lawn. Of course, I immediately wanted him to get his happily ever after. I felt so bad for what happened to Winnie. She was not guilty, as she didn't know he was married, but no one would listen to her, except her own family. She is smart, efficient, caring, goes above and beyond to do a great job, and tries to help Lorenzo be more human with his colleagues. When she needs to be, she can be a mama bear and give as good as she gets. I loved her grandfather, and wish I had one like that. Talk about support and unconditional love. There is humour in this story, but also some heartbreaking scenes. Although things didn't go smoothly with their relationship and the job, "how dare she put a cartoon in his presentation", I was rooting for them to see each other for what they could do for one another, and this is a romance. I definitely recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a good romance. The audiobook is narrated by Xe Sands and she does a wonderful job with this story. Her voices, tone and expression were perfect and she added to my enjoyment of this story.

LOL is the cure-all for stress and a crappy week, so thanks, Kristan.

Yeah, I was having a horrid week and I picked up Kristan's latest, Once in a Blue Moon, a novella, and thank the gods! I had a great read to look forward to at lunch and dinner, which is when I normally read. Some of you may be familiar with Dr. Satan. Call him The Shining because he shines in the follow-up to another of Kristan's unput-downable reads and not in the way most heroes want to shine. He's... off putting. But wait, there's more and it's good, very good.

KH does physicians so well, makes their titles and their diagnoses and their way of thinking entertaining and funny. Calls 'em out but it's like a joke between Kristan and the reader. My kind of humor. Well, you really need to BE THERE.

And I haven't even mentioned the nutty personalities, the romance (Yes, it's like the old Kristan came back to visit us––the romance knocks you for a bit of a loop.) As for the characters––sure, we know they're gonna get together but it's the how will they get together that drives the story. And the big family and the son-who-doesn't-fit-in and the daughter who's also in that boat and––well, you really need to BE THERE.

Go grab it and start reading. One example. Here's what happens when Satan feels happy: "his hypothalamus passed his pituitary gland a little oxytocin into his bloodstream." Try topping that one. #kristan.higgins

Sweet romance told with wit and charm and lots of snark. Winnie is all that every woman wishes she could be, totally herself in a world of fake faces. She says what she wants to say and even remembers to filter it once in a while. Her relationship with Dr. Lorenzo Santini is predictable, but so much fun to read. This was just what I needed…a lighthearted read that kept me engaged and cheering for the HEA from beginning to end! The characters are delightful, the plot is remarkably realistic and my favorite was the banter between couples and siblings…it’s like I was there and participating. Highly recommend!
I purchased a copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Once in a Blue Moon was an easy, quick romance. I listened to this on audio and I think the narrator was great and fitting for the characters portrayed in the story.

For me it wasn't bad, but it didn't blow me away. I had a hard time connecting to the characters and there was alot of focus on the fmc bad relationship that I felt took away from the overall story. There could've been more relationship development between the characters being together rather than the last 15% of the book.

The MMC was also harsh and I had a hard time liking him. I realize it was part of the character and it was meant to be that way...once in a blue moon, people connect that you wouldn't think and all, but I didn't love it.

thank you Netgalley and RBmedia for the audiobook.

Kristan Higgins continues to be an autobuy author for me. Her books are heartfelt, witty, and romantic. Nearly all of her books can be read as standalone (although some have characters that overlap). However, for this one, I would highly recommend reading her book, Look on the Bright Side, first because the 2 main characters in this one are introduced in that book.

This is a novella (a little over 200 pages) but she managed to pack a beautiful story into it! I love that "Dr. Satan" isn't the typical, swoony MMC. He's definitely someone that would be hard to love. But it's clear that Winnie is his perfect match ❤️ I loved how she balanced him out and softened his edges.

This just warmed my heart in the best way. I have no complaints, I adored it!

I enjoyed the story of Winnie and Lorenzo and I’m so glad the author reminded me of how and why I knew the other couples in the story from other books in the series.
I have been reading mostly super clean rom coms and forgot that she adds a little more spice than I’m used to, but it was very tasteful and not graphic at all.
It was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to more of her stories.

I really enjoy Kristan Higgins stories. They are full of humor and heart, I can always count on her to deliver. This time I was pleasantly surprised to find that she brought back Dr Satan from her previous book. I never thought I would care about him but this was one of my favorite books yet!! So good!! Xe Sands is an amazing narrator and a perfect voice for these characters!!

This was a delightful love story. The narrator was amazing and the story was predictable, but ended the way you would want it to. I love this author and am looking forward to more of her books. Thank you to netgalley and the publishing company for the audio version of this book.
