This is my first actual book review here on GoodReads, and really anywhere I have a reading counter. With that being said, I am extremely honored to have "A Moment of Weakness" be my very first review here. I also want to take a moment to thank Kat, for allowing me to be a part of this amazing team of people. Kat and everyone that is in the Street Team are 100% amazing and truly supportive people that I have ever met!
If you enjoy Victorian Era, multiple POVs, love and betrayal, dark academia, yearning, worship, a powerful FMC, a morally grey MMC, LGBTQ+ reps, disability rep (blind), and Hogwarts Legacy then this is for you!
When I started this book, I was hooked right away. The description and style of writing had every scene play in my mind like I was there watching everything take place. The character development and relationships had my heart in a knot in the most pleasing way. Even at the end when things took a turn, and the truth was coming to light the characters still had my heart in a chokehold. Seeing the sibling dynamic between Harper and Liam, the relationship between Liam and Theo, and how everything changed between everyone when they realized there was a block on them. From the light-hearted moments, the dark bloody moments and a story that ended broke my heart knowing who and what they had was ripped away.
Some quotes that are burned into my mind:
"Next time," he says, eyes never leaving mine, "don't pretend you didn't want me to find you."
"What did my father take from you, Ares?" My eyes close. I brace. Silence blooms wide enough to hurt. Then- "You."

I’ve finally had enough time to process everything. Sadly no quotes this time cause knowing myself I’d put way too much😭, but the things said between these characters had me melting to the damn floor.💋🖤
Oh my lord, this was pure magic, I was hooked, I was sat. I’ve literally fallen past obsessive, I’m so addicted to this novel, & her writing in general.🖤 The emotions I’ve felt in this book, emotions I never thought I’d feel in such a long time, even the damn tears. These characters, the development they had, the sibling bond was so sweet and beautiful, OH MY LORD SEBASTIAN THOUGH.🥴🧎🏻♀️ Plus the hot bonus of having Ares too?⁉️‼️ Oh, hell yea, I’ve fallen so deep, I don’t think I’d ever want to leave.💋🖤 Oh, don’t even get me started with Leo & Theo, the chemistry between them, I was kicking my feet and giggling like a little kid eating ice cream on a sunny day. I swear I’ll never get over these characters. I worship these characters just as much as they worshiped each other.🥴🥴 This story was beyond amazing, the dynamic, you could feel it as if you were there. Kat, you did an incredible job, I’m so in love.💋🖤
Overall it was beautiful and worth the read despite the shocking plot twist, got me staring the wall literally, and I loved it.🖤 I love these characters, the story, the setting, they all hold a special place in my heart & soul. Kat I love you so much, I can’t wait for what will happen next. Babes, I’m desperate for the continuation of this novel.💋🖤

High Stakes Magic!
A Moment of Weakness focuses on Harper Whitlock who is from an elite magical society that has cost her more than she is yet to realize. The storyline takes place during a relocation of her and her brother Liam, whilst trying to stay off the radar of their father and the powerful world that follows. Harper carries a wild, untamed and ancient magic that comes with its own set of problems, the kind of magic that is only whispered about, feared. This magic forces her to enroll in the Vireldan Academy, a sanctuary for the gifted and dangerous, for her. What Harper is victim to is more than just her trauma and her father's darkness but victim of an unreliable mind full of lost, out of focus memories that she doesn't understand. Despite the gilded halls of the Academy to keep them hidden, Harper quickly realizes that there is more to not only her missing memories, but the truth to her magic, the strength of it - most importantly why her father is desperately chasing her.
I really loved the dark academia and the magic vibe of this novel! It truly translated so well and I was able to visualize the details as I read. The tropes are such a good medley as well - morally grey MMC, fragmented mind/lost memories, high stakes, political/magical manipulation, high tension romance, magic, blood bonds, betrayal, fractured alliances, LGBTQ+ representation and blind character representation too!

Ok, wow. Where do I begin? First off let me start by saying that I was gifted this ARC and all opinions are my own. Thank you to Katerina for giving me the chance to read this beautiful piece. I had so much fun reading it. This book really jumps into the action immediately and the writing was so captivating to me (“amber light that spills onto the cobblestone like molten honey”, I mean, come on!) I loved the magical fantasy elements (think wands, magic and different assigned magical groups) and the gothic academia setting (misty school courtyards!)and immediately feeling some angst and tension amongst the characters(think arms folded leaning against pillars and observing mmcs). Harper, the fmc, is set up to be an independent and powerful part of the story that just needs to be able to have the opportunity to show how powerful she really is. We get little glimpses of her power throughout and when it finally manifests it’s definitely a hand clap moment. Sebastian is broody and mysterious and a bit misunderstood even. Liam and Theo are so good in their supporting roles. Ares is a mystery at first but we quickly learn how important his role is with all four characters and that role might have shattered me into pieces. There is yearning (such good yearning!!) and spice but the spice is not the plot and it was done so well. I found myself feeling all the emotions during this read-wonder, happiness, sadness. There were jaw dropping moments, face grabbing moments, and tear jerker moments. The twist was definitely not what I was expecting! I cannot wait to read book two and definitely will be talking about this book for a while.

There are so many reasons to pick this book up - a powerful FMC, a morally grey MMC, the LGBTQ+ and blind reps, the spice 🔥🔥, and an underlying war that only one person can stop.
What I liked:
📚The Vireldan vibe. Without being overly similar, what St. Clair has done with Vireldan is reminiscent of a certain school of witchcraft and wizardry - except older, more dangerous, and full of secrets! Dark academia fans will love it.
🔍The hidden truths. The entire time I was reading, something felt… off. Not quite right. Like Ophelia (and us as the readers) were missing some bigger piece to the puzzle, but you couldn’t quite place it. St. Clair wove that missing piece into the story so well, that when it’s finally revealed you’ll be hit with a mental-montage of all the moments you SHOULD have seen it coming. It’s thrilling, gasp-worthy, and worth the journey.
💗The found/chosen family. Whether it’s sweet baby Theo’s empathy, Liam’s unwavering support, or even Poppy’s easy friendship, every character plays a part in the story and has their own journey to go on. Supporting characters can sometimes end up as background noise, but that’s not the case in AMOW.
If you love dark academia layered with heat, tension and suspense, pick this one up!

Kat you wrote an amazing story you have me needing book two now haha. The beginning of the book had me hooked! The world building is so beautiful you can tell that Katerina put so much in creating this world, not to mention the creatures that followed. The characters I fell in love with them, ughh one character gave me the ick and I’m glad he was only shown brief in the story unless he’ll be In book two. The sibling dynamic between Liam and Harper is so beautiful to me. The chemistry between the characters ughh i loved it so much especially between Liam and Theo 😍😍. The way the secrets unravel had me grasping for more because what do you mean there’s was a block!? UGH THE FACT THE ARES IS JUST 🥵😍 so is Sebastian but Ares 👀. The magic and blood magic just everything about this story is so beautiful, and a plot twist I wasn’t expecting in the end. The yearning and the worship 😮💨🥵 not to mention the raven story 😭 that tore me apart. It’s a rare experience to come across an author who possesses the ability to describe their story in a show / don’t tell way and have their readers on the edge of their seats throughout the entire journey. I was at war with myself between devouring this masterpiece within hours of receiving it and taking the time to absorb the world as though I were there myself.
As someone who loves stories from the Victorian era, I loved how instead of nobility, we have an MMC who has nothing to his name, and still offers the world to his love, even when it feels just out of arm's reach.
The switch in perspectives is done with such fluidity that I felt each character’s ache of pain, wave of frustration, and shimmer of joy.
Most importantly, the raven story is one that will forever be embedded into my mind, the message that it makes, and the agony you feel for the characters in reference… its one that will change my brain chemistry forever.
As someone who loves stories from the Victorian era, I loved how instead of nobility, we have an MMC who has nothing to his name, and still offers the world to his love, even when it feels just out of arm's reach.

But otherwise, this story was SOOOO good✨✨🤤this story is during the Victorian era (which I feel is super rare for stories now & I think Katerina does it sooo well here!) and follows a darker romance style! In this story, we have an MMC who come from nothing but has SO much to give. Normally, the MMC is my least favorite character, but Kat makes him so lovable and you just dream for him to have better!

ARC Review: 4.5 ⭐️!!
I was lucky enough to ARC read another CRAZY plot twisted “I don’t know what really is about to happen” story by Katerina St. Clair. If there’s anything she knows how to do it is WRITING ABOUT YEARNING MEN AND LOST MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!! I was captivated by this story from the moment I started and I only put it down to (unfortunately) sleep and work. The magic, the secrets, the victorian era vibes, everything was captivating and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I should know by now to never trust what I’m reading by her but that just makes the payout so much sweeter at the end. AND NO ONE TOUCH MY BABY BOY THEO. I WILL BURN DOWN THE WORLD FOR HIM.
If you’re a fan of HP or Hogwarts Legacy, this is A MUST.

I’m such a huge fan of Katerina’s worked and have devoured everything she’s written. I really wanted to take my time with this book knowing how well she keeps you hooked, buuut I’m fucking greedy and demolished this quicker than ever. I wish I could reread this for the first time 🥹
The world building alone is simply stunning. The twist and turns keep you questioning everything. Like, WHAT DO YOU MEAN!? *insert Jennifer Lawrence gif*.
I ADORE Sebastian but the minute Ares entered the chat… I JUST KNEW 👀
Can a girl love them both? I know I can!
The raven story was heartbreaking but beautifully written.
Katerina knows how to rip your heart out, shove it back in and have you asking for more.

Katerina writes in a way that makes you feel like you’re inside the story. It’s magnetic. The kind of book that needs to be pried from your hands so you can function in real life.
We were absolutely spoilt with multiple POVs — which is perfection in my opinion, but ONLY when it’s executed well. And Katerina? She sets the bar. The POV shifts were seamless. Superb.
And Ares’ raven story?
