Cathy Glass is a bestselling British author, freelance writer and foster carer.
Her work is strongly identified with both the True Life Stories and Inspirational Memoirs genres, and she has also written a parenting guide to bringing up children, Happy Kids, and a novel, The Girl in the Mirror, based on a true story.
Glass has worked as a foster career for more than 20 years, during which time she has fostered more than 50 children. Her fostering memoirs tell the stories of some of the children who came in to her care, many of whom had suffered abuse.

I’m glad Cathy admitted at the end that Lily was one of the most difficult children she ever looked after, because I felt ready to throttle her. Although I felt the same way about the adoptive parents, who did as much if not more harm acting as they did. I hope they read this book, realise it’s them and see what the outcome was.
I would have yelled at Lily so much more often than Cathy did, but that’s why she is an experienced foster carer and best-selling author and I am just about managing one child and daily life!

Cathy's most infuriating book yet!

I get that Cathy is kind but Jesus wept, she was a doormat in this one. A teenager you looked after for two weeks as a child turns up on your doorstep so you invite her in and let her stay the night, do your absolute best for her and get nothing in return yet keep allowing her to get away with being so rude and selfish? You're not getting paid to do this, it hasn't been approved by social services, you have a girl in your house basically mooching off you for free but she doesn't need to pull her weight or even say thank you just because she had a difficult childhood?

I didn't like Lily at all and I'm furious that at no point was she brought up on her poor behaviour. She found out her two year old daughter had been removed from the only parents she'd ever known and was GLAD because she thought it might improve her odds of getting her back even though she wasn't sure she wanted to parent her? And don't even get me started on the whole 'I'd rather Olivia stay in foster care so I can see her when I feel up to it' I'm sorry but why did NO ONE sit down and tell Lily she was selfish and should be thinking of what her daughter NEEDS rather than what Lily WANTS?

Then to swan off to Italy and not give a shit about her own daughter anymore after basically ruining her chances at a quiet, normal childhood? I don't doubt she went through awful things as a kid but it's no excuse for how she acts now. I don't understand how or why contact was increased when Lily was making no actual effort to bond with Olivia at all.

Cathy, I love your books, but you missed with this one. The ending was too abrupt and actually your actions irritated me too. Olivia is the only one I feel sorry for and I'm actually irritated they went for guardianship rather than adoption.

Was very happy when I heard that another book had been released by this author. I am a huge fan of Cathies books and always enjoy them. I thought there were not going to be anymore so was really glad when this one came out.

This was slightly different from other books by this author dealing with a young adult rather than a child and I really liked how Cathy did everything she could to help Lilly. This was a book well worth reading and like all her other books I was not disappointed.

It was great Cathy come back to write another book …
But what a selfish young lady Lily was … maybe a lot to do with her upbringing and the traumas she went through (or possibly some she had brought on herself). I felt devastated for little Olivia who was unrooted a few times because of some of Lily’s selfish decisions.
I can only hope that Olivia does not carry any scars from Lily and her actions.

I really enjoyed reading Cathy's new book and pleased she is writing again. I felt so sorry for Olivia for the upheaval she went through but so glad she got stability and security that she needs. I wanted to throttle Lily throughout the book and shout at her, I didn't agree with her actions at all.
