Where the Shadows Linger

Rate this book
In Wildhaven, danger doesn’t disappear. It lingers long after the moment passes.

Eden Wild has always believed in safe harbors—her bookshop and bakery, small-town loyalty, and the quiet comfort of family. Warm, openhearted, and endlessly hopeful, she’s built a life rooted in love. She’s also the last person who should catch the attention of a brooding outsider a decade older than her. But when a killer slips into her home and threatens everything she holds dear, Eden is forced to confront a devastating truth—safety was never as certain as she believed.

Jackson Hunter came to town chasing a ghost—a brilliant and ruthless killer who has stayed one step ahead of him for months. Hardened by years of loss and driven by the hunt, he’s never allowed himself to want more. Until Eden. She’s light where he’s guarded, warmth where he’s worn thin—and falling for her is as dangerous as it is inevitable.

Because loving Eden doesn’t just change him, it puts her directly in the killer’s path.

As bodies surface and unease settles over Wildhaven, the truth begins to unravel—piece by piece, drawing them closer to a past that refuses to stay hidden.

Now, Eden and Jackson must decide if they’re willing to risk everything for answers—and for each other, because in Wildhaven, secrets don’t stay buried, and some choices come at a deadly cost.

Fans of Catherine Cowles and Devney Perry will fall hard for Where the Shadows Linger, a steamy small-town romantic suspense filled with emotional intensity, irresistible tension, and a twist you won’t see coming.

One-Click now to return to Wildhaven, where love runs deep, danger strikes close to home, and every choice could change everything.

Was absolutely SO excited to receive the third book in this series as an advanced reader copy because Jackson was hands down the hero I was most interested in getting a story for! One of my favorite things about this series is that the hits just keep coming. There hasn’t been a single skippable book yet, and this is 100% one of those series you NEED to read in order because every installment builds on the last in such a delicious way.

And this ending??? Fantastic. I had a tiny little inkling about part of what was happening, but there was another reveal that completely blindsided me. I was NOT expecting that character to show themselves in that way at all, and I just sat there staring for a minute trying to process everything like this was a real Life tragedy playing out on the TV😂😂

Honestly, getting this far into a series and still feeling this invested is rare for me, so major bravo to Steffanie Blais because I am absolutely FERAL waiting for book 4 now!!!

4.5🌟, 3🌶️

I went into this book with high expectations and somehow, it still managed to blow me away.

Jackson has been the mysterious, broody hero I was dying to know more about, and seeing him paired with the radiant, sunshine-filled Eden was pure perfection. Their chemistry is absolutely undeniable, and watching their walls come down while the tension spiked was a massive reading highlight for me.

The suspense was just as addictive as the romance. The story hits the ground running right where the last one ended, and the stakes feel higher than ever as the search for the elusive villain intensifies. I thought I had the mystery figured out, but there was a massive twist near the end that left me completely floored and staring at the wall just trying to process the shock of it all.

The author has created a world that feels so real and immersive that I am genuinely attached to everyone in it, even their amazing dog, Houdini. While I wish a few sections moved a tiny bit faster, the emotional payoff and the gripping mystery made it impossible to put down.

This installment was a total triumph, and I’m quite desperate to see how the rest of this mystery unfolds.

Huge thank you to Steffanie Blais & House of Hearts Lit for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨

"Where the Shadows Linger" by Steffanie Blais is a great small-town grumpy x sunshine, age-gap, romantic suspense novel full of chemistry between characters, an intriguing mystery, and a wonderful canine companion. Jackson (MMC) is a protective grump of a man who will do anything to shield Eden (FMC) from harm's way, though he has a lot of baggage. Eden is the youngest Wild sibling who owns a bakery and is sunshine personified. Where everyone else in her family (and sometimes, it feels, their town) is wary of Jackson's broodiness and closed-off-ness, Eden has always been intrigued by him and what makes him tick. I would call their connection slow-burning for sure. Their chemistry is flawless, and banter comes easily between them. From the very first chapter, this book is quite compelling and rarely lets up, heat between them, suspense, and otherwise. The subplot about Ares coming for Eden definitely kept me guessing. Her presence has been spectral in Wildhaven, but suddenly, bodies start appearing in town, and the focus shifts to Eden and the Wild family's history directly. Jackson is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her, even if it means possibly leaving town to do it. Will Ares live to see another day? Or can Jackson and Eden and the rest of the Wild clan help take her down once and for all? I will say, I wish some of the aspects of this book had moved a little faster. It feels a bit too slowly paced for my liking. However, I was enthralled by the Ares divulgings and the trap she sets for Eden. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series!

Thank you to Steffanie Blais and House of Hearts Lit. for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

Steffanie Blais is quickly becoming one of my favorite new authors, and the Secrets of Wildhaven Series is one I know I will re-read. Book three picks up where book two leaves off, and like the previous books I fall right back into the story.

Jackson is quiet, guarded, in the shadows, and I needed to know his story. This broody man has a lot to tell us, and here we are with his story. Eden is our sunshine, bookstore/bakery owner, believes in love. Together these two take us for a ride.

As we still have not caught Ares, our ghost is still out there. Jackson came to town to track Ares, who is one step ahead. A mystery he needs to solve. But when Eden gets in their crosshairs, Jackson protector comes out.

This is not a standalone, you will need to start with book one. This series is well balanced with suspense and romance. Each book does end on a cliffhanger, but we do not have a long wait between books. If you love the small town suspense, twists, danger, addictive storylines that keep you guessing, this series is for you.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This is officially a top romantic suspense series - everyone needs to be reading this series NOW!

As soon as Jackson was introduced as the quiet, broody man in the shadows I knew he was going to be my favorite MMC of the series.

Eden is sunshine on the rainiest day and Jackson cannot stay away - even though her safety may depend on it.

These two are pure passion and chemistry from the first page until the end. I am obsessed with them!

I loved how Eden broke down Jackson’s walls and Jackson saw Eden for who she truly is without dimming her light.

Houdini is such an integral part of their story - this dog was there for BOTH of them in major parts of the book. I loved this!

The overarching plot from books 1 & 2 continues here, and I think my detective skills are getting better at finding our true villain - I’m probably delusional and completely wrong haha

I cannot believe I have to wait until AUGUST to learn what happens next! I cannot wait to see the chaos that Chase brings to the mix.

Thank you to House of Hearts for this ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!

Where The Shadows Linger is the third installment of author Steffanie Blais's Wildhaven Series. I am definitely behind the eight ball as I now need to read books 1& 2. Eden and Jackson bring all the feels in this small-town, grumpy sunshine, age gap, sprinkled with spice story. Cherry on top is a rescue dog:) Blais's descriptive writing style had me grabbing a blanket and craving cups of coffee. I am impatiently waiting for the next book in the series!

I received a copy from the author via House of Hearts, and this is my honest opinion.

Steffanie Blais is the author of the Secrets of Wildhaven series.  Where the Shadows Linger is book three in the interconnected series.  I want to thank House of Hearts for introducing me to this author and for the ability to read this suspenseful ARC.  I appreciated the diagram and recap of the series at the front of the book.  I had not read this series before, so the information was extremely helpful.  It was not difficult to follow after that.  I will be going back and reading the first two books in the series though.  It was just that good.  There is something about the suspense in this series that is intriguing to me.

Eden is the stereotypical baby of the family.  Her entire family is in protective mode at all times.  She does put her foot down many times to stand up for what she wants or what she believes in.  She may be young, but she is smart and strong.  Jackson is on a downward spiral and is always on alert.  He takes grumpy to a new level.  He trusts no one and never lets anyone in.  That is until Eden came along.  Jackson is broody, protective, and always ready to sacrifice himself to save Eden from danger.

I completely fell in love with Windhaven and all of its small town charm.  Jackson and Eden's story made me love it even more by the end.  Even though there is so much danger and secrets all around, these two characters were able to build a foundation of something beautiful.  Something they tried to avoid, but it was written on the walls.  They were meant for each other.  When Jackson was around everything felt safe.  I was always waiting for something bad to come around the corner as soon as they would separate.  Houdini was also great.  Dogs can have healing characteristics, and he definitely did a little of that for both Eden and Jackson.  It was like an instant trio and little family.

Where the Shadows Linger is full of secrets, lies, and suspense in every chapter.  I was captivated from the first page.  There are so many unanswered questions and no answers.  You don't know who to fear or who to trust.  The pages just kept turning, because I needed answers.  I was suspicious of a few characters.  The ending was perfect for a suspenseful romance story.  I will be picking up the next book when it releases because I need answers and I am sure Steffanie is going to make me question things I haven't even thought of yet.  Wildhaven still has a lot of secrets to unravel and we are nowhere near the end.

Secrets of Wildhaven Book 3 is finally here—and it delivers from the very first page. This story picks up right where the last one left off, which is honestly one of my favorite things about this series. It feels so seamless and immersive—something you don’t always get with suspense series. Plus they're being released relatively close to one another! I don't have to wait a year in between.

Fair warning: you have to start with Book 1. Every installment ends on a cliffhanger, and we’re still trying to figure it all out… and I am absolutely eating that up. The twists in this series (and especially this book) are next-level.

Jackson and Eden… where do I even begin? The chemistry between them is instant and undeniable. From start to finish, they are pure tension, passion, and emotion—I’m completely obsessed.

Eden is such a beautifully written character. She has this warmth and softness that pulls you in immediately, but beneath that is a quiet, resilient strength that really shines as everything around her begins to unravel. Watching her fight to hold onto hope? Heartbreaking in the best way.

Then there's Jackson… Broody, protective, emotionally guarded—and completely unhinged for Eden before he even realizes it. The age-gap dynamic works so well here, adding depth and intensity to every interaction. The push and pull between his feelings and his need to protect her made every scene feel charged and meaningful.

Steffanie Blais expertly weaves emotional depth with gripping suspense, all while keeping the romance front and center. The blend of danger, healing, love, and mystery is beautifully executed—and it keeps you completely hooked until the final page.

If you love small-town romantic suspense with high emotional stakes, protective heroes, incredible chemistry, and twists that keep you guessing, then you should definitely check this series out!

Huge thanks to House of Hearts—and especially Steffanie Blais—for the opportunity to be an ARC reader for this series. It truly means so much to me!

Where the Shadows Linger by Steffanie Blais completely pulled me in from the very first chapter and refused to let go. This book had everything I love in a romantic suspense story. Emotional depth, intense chemistry, small town secrets, danger lurking around every corner, and characters that felt so real I honestly did not want the story to end.

Eden was such a beautiful character. She had this warmth and softness to her that made you instantly love her, but underneath that kindness was a quiet strength that really stood out as the story unfolded. Watching her world slowly unravel while still trying to hold onto hope absolutely broke my heart at times.

And Jackson... whew. This man was broody, protective, emotionally damaged, and completely gone for Eden before he probably even realized it himself. The age gap dynamic worked so perfectly because of the emotional maturity and tension between them. The way he fought his feelings while also wanting to protect her from everything around them made every interaction feel intense and meaningful.

The suspense aspect of this story was done so well. Every chapter had me questioning who could be trusted and what was really hiding beneath the surface of Wildhaven. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another twist hit me. The atmosphere was haunting, emotional, and addictive in the best way.

Steffanie Blais created a story that felt emotional and suspenseful without losing the romance at the center of it all. The chemistry between Eden and Jackson was undeniable, and the emotional connection between them made every moment hit even harder. I loved the balance of danger, healing, love, and mystery woven throughout the story.

If you love small town romantic suspense with emotional intensity, protective heroes, incredible chemistry, and twists that keep you hooked until the very end, this book absolutely deserves a spot on your TBR. Easily a 5 star read for me.

⭐️ Overall Rating: 5/5
🔥 Burn Level: 4/5
🌶️ Spice Level: 3.5/5
💧 Emotional Impact: 4.5/5

I’ve been loving the Secrets of Wildhaven series, and Where the Shadows Linger was every bit as good as the previous books. One of my favorite things about interconnected series is getting to revisit a world and characters I’ve already grown attached to, and this book reminded me exactly why I enjoy spending time in Wildhaven.

Jackson and Eden completely won me over. Eden has such a warm, caring personality, while Jackson carries the weight of his past and the determination that comes with hunting a killer. Their relationship felt balanced because they each brought something the other needed. I loved watching Jackson slowly let his guard down around Eden, and I loved how Eden never lost her kindness even when everything around her became dangerous.

The romantic suspense aspect kept me engaged from beginning to end. There was enough mystery to keep me guessing while still allowing the romance to develop naturally. The tension, the danger, the emotional moments, and the small-town atmosphere all worked together so well.

One thing I continue to appreciate about this series is how connected everything feels. Each book adds another layer to Wildhaven while still giving the featured couple their own story. By the end, I was completely invested in Jackson and Eden and found myself flying through the pages because I needed to know what would happen next.

If you’ve been reading this series, I definitely recommend picking this one up. It was another fantastic addition to the world, and I loved every minute I spent with Jackson and Eden.

Thank you to House of Hearts Lit, Steffanie Blais, and the author team for the opportunity to read and review Where the Shadows Linger. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Where the Shadows Linger is a captivating blend of romance, mystery, and emotional healing set in a beautifully atmospheric small town surrounded by snow and buried secrets. From the very first chapters, I was drawn into the story and completely invested in both the romance and the suspense. 🌲❄️🔍

Eden is such a lovable protagonist. She’s compassionate, resilient, and determined, even when everything around her seems to be falling apart. Watching her navigate heartbreak, uncertainty, and the truth hidden beneath the surface was both emotional and rewarding. 🤍✨

Jackson, on the other hand, is everything I love in a romantic suspense hero: broody, protective, emotionally closed off, and carrying the weight of his past on his shoulders. Watching him slowly lower his walls around Eden was one of my favorite parts of the book. Their age-gap romance adds an extra layer of tension, and the chemistry between them is impossible to ignore from the very beginning. 🖤🔥

One of my favorite aspects of the book was how well the romance and suspense complemented each other. The mystery slowly unfolds throughout the story, revealing secrets that kept me curious and eager to keep reading. While I guessed a few twists, the emotional journey and character development remained the true heart of the novel. 🔍📖☕️🕯️

While I found some developments easier to predict than others, I was still completely invested in the characters and their journey. The emotional moments hit hard, the romance felt genuine, and the suspense kept me hooked until the very end.

If you love small-town settings, protective heroes, age-gap romance, emotional depth, and a touch of danger mixed with your love story, Where the Shadows Linger is definitely worth picking up. 🌲🖤❄️

Thank you to House of Hearts for the opportunity to read this ARC. 💚

Secrets of Wildhaven: Jackson and Eden

This series has me hooked. There is an overarching storyline, so while each book is standalone, it’s best read in order if you want to avoid spoilers.

I like the recap at the start. It was very welcome, because when you read so many books, it’s nice to have a reminder so I don’t feel lost.

After a brief hiatus, Ares is back and causing havoc again. The tension builds in this in a few ways…

“You’re not my weakness… You’re my clarity.”

This story focusses on Jackson and Eden, and while she wants him and he wants her, he doesn’t want to want her. An age gap, an independent MFC, an adopted puppy, a new home, and an attraction that just seems to be cropping up at the wrong time.
Her brothers are so protective, almost suffocating… and the trust in Jackson is still quite low after his identity is revealed.
And then, the Ares storyline… threats, suspense… It’s dark. Add in the Chase/Nik dynamic about the business, so many twists and turns, and it really keeps you guessing.
There’s something iffy about Nik, but then… is there another secret family member we have no idea about…
But, I’m guessing, based on the final chapter, Chase is up next, so we might get a look into the family business and get some answers…

I read this quickly. And honestly, I was supposed to go out and pick my kids up. It was tempting to tell them I was going be an hour late so I could finish it! This just keeps dragging you deeper….

Thanks, Steffanie, for the advance copy…. I really enjoyed it. Even if I’ll be running short on sleep tomorrow.

I've been reading a lot of Romantic Suspense lately and absolutely LOVING IT! The tropes and description of this one drew me in and had me hooked!! I really loved Jackson and Eden as characters and the romance that developed between them. Plus we get soooo much mystery and tension which I was eating up! The burn is slow and so very worth it! The loved the chemistry between them, the build up, the softer moments, the tension and every emotion I felt while reading. It was definitely difficult to put down because I enjoyed the story so much!

At some point in the middle(?) of the book I felt like the story stalled a bit or hit a point where things just felt different. I can't place my finger on it exactly but I was hooked at the beginning, then it felt like it tampered off a bit, and then came back at the end. It's not a bad thing at all, but there was just something missing from a point in the book to really get it to the climax point.

I full admit that I did not read the first two books in the series (and that's on me and did not effect my rating), but a HUGE shout out to Steffanie for providing a recap in her book (like this is the first time I've seen this and I LOVED it)!! I definitely should have read the first two (and will!) but I was able to catch on pretty quickly and follow along with the overarching story woven between the books.

If you love a romantic suspense, with twists, turns, and plenty of romance (PLUS THE CUTEST PUPPY) go run and pick this one up!!

*Age gap
*Grumpy sunshine
*Suspense
*Small town
*Protective MMC
*Sweetheart FMC
*The cutest puppy

This is an interconnected standalone and for the best experience you should read the previous ones as there's a greater plot that evolves throughout the series.
That being said I LOVED LOVED LOVED the recap in the beginning. As I read many books (too much in fact for my poor brain) sometimes I forget some details and Steffanie is a GODDESS. I totally feel spoilt.
Heroine, Eden, is the youngest sibling in the family, a family who has endured several mishappenings in the last year. But Eden is a ray of light and through her bakery she lights the life of her family and friends.
Hero, Jackson, though not a friend but more of an acquaintance because of the ongoing investigation of Ares, a serial killer that threatens the family, couldn't survive Eden's charm and he falls hard. Initially he plays hard to get but Eden and her cute puppy steal Jackson's heart without even trying.
I loved Eden's lightness and optimism. She was strong and courageous and firm when she had to. And Jackson who was hurt but trying to be selfless even before realising his feelings.
The story was intense and emotional and gripped from the very first page. I was really looking forward to experience this couple's story and it didn't disappoint me.
And don't let me start with the ending! I can't wait to find out what is next for the Wild family.
I received this arc and this is my honest opinion.

Let me tell you this is becoming one of my absolute favorite romantic suspense series out there!

This book picks up directly where the previous book ends. I honestly think that is what I love about this series! It is so unique compared to other suspense series I have read.

This series you must read from book 1 because they each leave on a cliffhanger and you still don’t know who the bad guy is and I am LOVING that and eating it up!

The twists and turns in this series and this book is perfection! I could not put this book down until I got to the last page.

Jackson and Eden were everything! I am in my age gap era, and I loved these two. Eden is the baby and her family tends to underestimate her…but not Jackson. No, our grumpy DEA agent sees her strength and how much she cares and is strong for everyone around her. I loved how he never tried to “baby” her…well, he tried once she put him in his place and never again after that!

I love a grumpy recluse of an MMC who fights his feelings, and Jackson was all that and more! These two understood each other and what they needed most. They had this electric pull towards each other, and it was electric when they finally gave in.

I need more of them and I need the next book asap! August feels so far away!!

If you love:
Small town
Suspense
Big family
Found Family
Grumpy x Sunshine
Pet adoption

This book is for you

ARC Review: 4.5 ⭐️
Where the Shadows Linger is book 3 in the Secrets of Wildhaven series featuring Jackson Hunter & Eden Wild.

While each book in this series focuses on a different couple I would recommend reading in order because the story lines overlap! This story picks up in the wake of events that happened at the end of book 2 and Jackson coming to Eden’s rescue.

Eden is the youngest wild sibling and has always been protected by her siblings. Now she’s gained another protector in Jackson who will stop at nothing to keep her safe.

Eden’s brothers are sceptical of Jackson’s intentions with Eden but he will stop at nothing to keep her safe. The gang must continue to work together to try and find Ares before someone else in town ends up hurt.

When Ares comes back to town will they track them down before it’s too late or will another Wild sibling and up in danger ?

I really enjoyed Jackson and Eden’s grumpy / sunshine age gap romance and I love the suspense of the mystery keeping you invested from start to finish! I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series to get us one step closer to solving the mystery!

This series just keeps getting better… the romantic suspense genre perfectly captured!

I’ve been hooked on this series since book one, I love how the author keeps the big plot line of the “main villain” through all the books meanwhile giving every each of them their own sub plot line, it’s so interesting and it has me so impatiently waiting for the next one!

Also, I love the balance between the romance and the suspense, we have murders, clues, tension and mystery but also as a side note, a whole love story forming full of angst, yearn and sweet feelings.

In this one, I became obsessed with Jackson and Eden… both are characters that we know from previous books and already know but in here we understand them, their motivations and feelings, both are so different from each other but so well balanced and honestly? Perfect for each other! Jackson in all of his grumpy stoic energy and Eden who wears her heart on her sleeve… he’s going to protect her and she’s going to teach that he doesn’t have to be alone.

A special mention for the dedication because it’s completely true, sometimes the older men know better haha!

Thanks to Steffanie Blais and House of Hearts for the gifted copy — all opinions are my own.

Thank you so much to author, Steffanie Blais, for the gifted ARC of Where the Shadows Linger.

Y’all I am so UNWELL in the best way possible. I did not think that I could fall in love with another couple, BUT I DID! Jackson and Eden are probably my FAVORITE couple so far and I cannot believe we have FIVE more books to get through! I am such a sucker for an age gap romance (only if it is written well) and you, Steffanie, did a WONDERFUL job writing this piece. I know age gap is hard to incorporate but it was down so efficiently.

The twists to the plot line really caught me off guard.  I have a hunch as to who is behind this but I don’t want to make assumptions because I know something could happen and you could change it up on us!

I am willing and able to be a Beta reader for you. This is my officially application alongside the ARC review. :P You have easily become one of my new favorite romantic suspense authors.

((What is it going to take to get you to come out to GA for a book signing?!?!))

Thank you again for this gifted ARC. I am super excited to see what you have in store for us and the Wilds of Windhaven!

I'm in my Wildhaven era and I never want it to end (except I would love the rest of the books now PLEASE AND THANK YOU!).

I have found an obsession in this series. The main storyline continues throughout the entire series so I'll keep this spoiler-free and you definitely should start with book 1 when you read it.

This one focuses on Eden and a newcomer in Wildhaven, Jackson. Jackson is such an intriguing character, he's out for revenge and has been on the hunt for Ares for so long, that's his only focal point. Until our caring and loving Eden. He's trying to keep his distance but protecting her at all costs and I love their relationship so much!! They have great chemistry and I just couldn't stop reading. It's addicting in the best way, a pleasure to see our family again. They have so many secrets between them, I can't wait to know them all!

I you're into romantic suspense, I would definitely recommend this series!

- Top tier romantic suspense
- Grumpy/sunshine
- Age gap
- Small town romance

Clear your calendars before you pick up this series (these are not standalones!) because it is THAT GOOD! The suspense level builds up from the first book and will keep you transfixed.

I do love a flawed and d@m@ged MMC and Jackson absolutely checks those boxes. He is in Wildhaven tracking down a "cleaner" who goes by the name Ares. Ares is responsible for the unaliving of Jackson's partner and he is still grappling with that. Now that they know who Ares is, the next thing they must do is stop them.

Ares had been quiet for a while, but literally announces themselves in a big way by t0rch1ng the local church.

The Wild family is the t@rget of Ares for an unknown reason, and it looks like the next person they are targeting is the youngest in the family - Eden. Eden is a small business owner with a big heart...and Jackson, against his own judgment, can't stay away from her. But will that put Eden in even more d@nger now that Ares knows what she means to Jackson?

This story doesn't resolve by the end and I am anxiously awaiting the next installment in this phenomenal series!!!

Thank you to the author for the eARC of this book!

I’m three for three with ARC reading this series and this is my favorite one yet! I’m really enjoying how each book builds on the one before it! This series grabs a hold of you in the best way!

Jackson- is all my favorite MMCs put in one! The older, grumpy, protector who thinks the best way to keep the girl safe is by keeping his distance… and we all know how well that works out!

Eden - the baby Wild out to prove to everywhere that she is an adult and can take care of herself.

And my favorite character-Houdini! The mischievous pup who likes to take things things that aren’t his… spatulas, bath towels👀👀

The killer- keeps us on our toes! They are bold and calculating. Seemingly everywhere and nowhere at the same time. They have every single family member on edge.

There is a HEA… but are we safe from the killer? Well I think we are just getting started.

Fantastic storyline!
This is book 3 in the Secrets Of Wildhaven series and I’m loving every minute of it.
The drama, twist and turns had me on tenterhooks, wondering just what was going to happen next.
Jackson takes a lead role in this story, his relationship with the Wild family is still rocky as they are all wary of him, with the exception of Eden.
Both Jackson and Eden have been treading lightly around each other lately.
With feelings simmering to the surface but unable to act upon them, Jackson fears that she is too much of a distraction while trying to locate Ares.
But when Eden becomes Ares target he rushes in to protect her.
Fantastic chemistry, some steamy scenes and two really great characters make up this story.
Add in the Wild family and their partners and the story just keeps getting better.
Can’t wait to see what Chase gets up to.
This is not a standalone story and must be read in order to appreciate the book.
Thank you Steffanie Blais and House of Hearts for the opportunity to read this story and series.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review:

I absolutely loved Eden and Jackson’s story! Their relationship felt so genuine because both of them are carrying hidden pieces of their past that have shaped who they are and what they need from each other. Eden’s warmth and optimism balance Jackson’s guarded nature perfectly, and watching them slowly let each other in was one of my favorite parts of the book.

The suspense kept me hooked in this series, beginning to end. Every time I think I have figured out who was pulling the strings, another twist made me question everything. I definitely have my suspicions about who the real puppet master is, but with all the unexpected turns, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m completely wrong!

This story delivered the perfect mix of romance, mystery, and suspense. The chemistry between Eden and Jackson was undeniable, and the danger surrounding them kept me turning pages late into the night. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Wildhaven.

Where the Shadows Linger is book three, and this series has only gotten better. Jackson and Eden completely capture your heart.

Jackson’s struggle between wanting Eden and believing he doesn’t deserve her tugs hard at your emotions. He’s older, broody, lonely, and deeply vulnerable beneath all that intensity, making it impossible not to melt for him.

Eden balances strength and fragility beautifully, loving with her whole heart. You can’t help but admire her bravery in going after what she wants despite the risks involved. Together, this couple simply works.

The suspense and unanswered questions continue to linger, pulling you in every direction. Tension builds with every death and every mystery left unresolved, leaving you suspicious of everyone.

Through it all, laughter and banter from family and friends bring warmth to the darkness, right until the next shocking clue slams straight into Jackson at the end.

First I would like to thank Steffanie Blais and House of Hearts for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Sooo… this one is a no for me. I didn’t DNF because I have a hard time doing that and I so badly wanted to give it a chance. This book is NOT for me. I couldn’t get into the characters well and therefore couldn’t really get into their love story…. But also their love story made NO sense! We went from looking at each other, to saying 2 words and having sex in the kitchen of the store…. To me it made no sense the timeline of how quickly they moved. It wasn’t a smooth move, it was too fast. I could see people really enjoying this book with the plot and the world. I myself liked the plot in itself with Ares. But even then it just felt so backseat and wish it was more of main plot than almost a side plot in the back if that makes sense. I won’t be reading anymore of this series, I encourage you to try it for yourself, it just was not for me.

Where the Shadows Linger is a gripping continuation of the Secrets of Wildhaven series.

Eden owns the local bookshop and bakery in Wildhaven. Recently, her world has been flipped by a serial killer that has their eyes set on her family and will stop at nothing to take them all down.

Jackson came to Wildhaven to find the killer. He is determined, for personal reasons, and the stakes seem to continue to grow. He will stop at nothing to find the killer and seek justice.

Eden is younger than Jackson, but they are drawn together in a special kind of way. Eden feels safe with Jackson and Jackson feels whole with Eden. Together they are a force that should not be bothered.

I love how Steffanie brought Eden and Jackson together. They are opposites in so many ways, but can be similar at the same time. Since fully knowing who Jackson was in book two, you know they have undeniable chemistry and will be amazing together.

I cannot wait to continue this series and see where book 4 takes us!

Eden is the sunshine baby of the Wild family. Jackson is a hardened cop on probation. Will her sun be enough to light his shadows?

I liked it. This is book three of the series about siblings in a family and a small town mystery. You definitely should read in order as they connect and there are cliff hangers. The whole series has been pretty solid so far. It moved quickly due to the action.

The spice was niiiice. I did not really get a feel for Jackson in the previous book, but we learn a lot more about him in this one. It really brought him to life and helped explain why he is the way he is. Eden is extremely likable, but also found her voice in this one. They were really good together and their spicy scenes were perfect. Plus, Houdini the dog brought them together and who does not love a cute dog?

Overall, this was an action packed continuation of the series and I am interested to see what happens next. 4.5 stars

This is the 3rd book in the Wildhaven Series and each book keeps getting better and better.

Eden Wild is such a refreshing heroine. Her warmth, optimism, and fierce love for her little corner of Wildhaven made her feel so real and easy to root for. She's built a safe, beautiful life for herself which makes it all the more terrifying when that safety starts to crack.

Jackson Hunter is broody, guarded, and carrying the weight of his past, he's the kind of hero who doesn't expect love but falls hard anyway. The tension between him and Eden is undeniable from the start, and their chemistry is electric.

The age gap and emotional push and pull only add to the intensity. There is a perfect balance of suspense and romance with spice. I was not expecting the ending but once again I will be waiting for the next book to come out!

Thank you to Steffanie Blais for the ARC.

A must read romantic suspense

*Spoilers for previous books!*
Picking up right where the last book ends with a fire at the old church. This time following Eden the youngest Wild child and Jackson who we learn from the previous book has been following Ares since the death of his partner Alex. Eden gets in a pickle when she tries to save a dog from the nursing building and Jackson is there to save the day. Everyone in the wild family is still hesitant on him except for Eden. Thinking Ares is back the Wild's and Jackson try to keep everyone safe. Including Jackson taking up being a joke renovator and dog sitter. Along the way more tragedy strikes that throws Eden and Jackson into a spicy little romance.
A spicy fast paced suspense romance that picks up right where the last book ends in a gripping story that leaves the reader wanting more.
With the tropes of grumpy sunshine, age gap romance, broody MMC, cutest puppy sidekick, and small town romance. A doce level of a 2/5 for me personally.
A must read series if you love a suspense romance that continues throughout the series with one main focal point where you are learning about the serial killer with the FMC and MMCs. With a different main character for each book you learn more and more about the Wild family as well as the small town secrets that are begging to come to light.
