Take the regular series and curb its thirst by 30% and make everybody twice as dumb as normal and you would end up with this ridiculous bonus manga. And you know what? I’m not mad at it.

This is mainly for the fans of My Dress-Up Darling, as it doesn’t really bother to reintroduce anybody and mostly just wants to throw an endless parade of gag stories at the reader.

(When I say it’s for fans, I should point out that not those who were just there for racy depictions of Marin, as the art here is far looser and nowhere near as strong as the parent material.)

The success rate is surprisingly good, including a couple that are actually hysterical, which I do not say lightly. It’s not the best collection ever, but it definitely wasn’t a waste of time and a fun way to close the series out.

Basically, just exaggerate everybody’s mannerisms and go crazy. So Gojo is especially clueless and Marin is… okay, not much better. She definitely has a dirtier mind here, based on my recollections.

The best story is probably the very first, which involves a particularly over-developed sewing machine that crushes Marin’s dreams and does a lot more than it needs to. The very basic punchline about Gojo being nice then swerves into a wonderfully daft omake that makes it seem like the machine is possessed.

There’s a ridiculous one involving a pyramids scheme where Marin throws down with a guy who is habitually exaggerating his life (he comes back again for no good reason, which I approve of). And Shinju and Sajuna have some sisterly bonding that involves eye gouging.

I definitely liked how ludicrous some of these got, and spending time with a variety of cast members helps keep it fresh. The chapter with Amane, who crossplays as a female, takes his gender revelation and turns it into a running gag with spectacular results (the denture scene is something else).

Not every story works, but a lot of them do. Gojo’s cooking ability becomes a perfect example of comedic escalation, and there’s a rather lame 4-koma about a series within the main series that ends up delivering a staggeringly funny ending that is one of the best jokes I’ve read in ages.

I don’t know that this is strictly necessary, which is my catch phrase for manga that are not, strictly speaking, necessary. And it really is for series fans more than anything else. That said, it was a fun little aside that made me laugh, so good on it.

4 stars - decent joke density and some really strong gags make for a good time. If this is the last of these characters I read, it goes out on a high note.

The spin-off of My Dress-Up Darling is...fine. It's pure fluff and completely lacks the depth the original series had, but as a series of vignettes and short stories, I must confess it did make me smile. I actually laughed out loud at one point, when Marin mistakenly perceives Gojo as a potential stand-up comedian out of sheer love for him. That felt on-brand.

That takes me to my biggest problem with My Dress-Up Darling XOXO: author choboraunyopomi doesn't really understand the characters. Clearly they understand Marin, and Shinju and Sajuna to an extent, but they do NOT understand Gojo Wakana at all. He acts completely out of character in most of the short stories, and it ruins the heart of what My Dress-Up Darling is. This book even ends with a note from choboraunyopomi saying that they were told to go absolutely crazy by Shinichi Fukuda herself, but I wonder if this didn't miss the mark. As a fun little extra for the fans, this made me miss Shinichi Fukuda more than it probably should have.

This did not feel like Wakana and Marine, but it had some fun logic in pyramid schemes (NOT likely for one who is about to inherit a company making around $640,000 per year without a college degree, per his grandfather's business) and END OF THE WORLD logic. Still, it did cover what young people think about sometimes (I had a best friend in college who tried to get all his fraternity brothers to join under him) and Biblical thought process can bring into people's heads. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MANGA, so I'd suggest anyone read the originals and if they are starving for more stories than this might be up their alley.

This is a cute spin-off with a bunch of little short stories and gags. It's the same characters you know and love, but they are behaving in quite odd ways. Gramps hitting Gojo?! That's more than quite unusual. Don't read this book expecting it to be just like the original manga series. It was silly, it was light, I enjoyed it on the whole. I'm really glad the cross-playing, gender non-conforming character Amane got some page-time, but apparently drag and cross-playing are socially acceptable, but being gay is not... It's not quite as progressive as I had hoped...

Does not meet expectations

This spin off is mostly cheap gags with character doodles, and a few high quality character drawings interspersed here and there. For me, the artwork didn't quite match the charm of the original series, and there was no real storyline with the characters, just jokes. Maybe that's what the standard is for a spinoff, but I didn't really care for it.

Talk about utter crap! I was stoked to have some more My Dress Up Darling but this is a joke. Nothing here is remotely funny and sadly has nothing to do with the real series. Makes me feel like it was a total money grab on the popularity of the original.

I wanted to love this because I adored the series and felt it needed a proper end, but this isn’t it. The artwork is significantly worse, and the vignettes were pretty dumb. It is a series of one shots with the characters acting completely OOC and half of it is delusions.

I had no idea this was an entirely different artist, while not bad I was expecting the original manga art style. Was hoping for more/better Gojo and Marin content but this was pretty subpar and lacking overall.

That was absolutely hilarious and heart warming all at once; the art style was different but wildly funny and cute, and I loved seeing more Liz!!!
