Thirteen years of lies. One night of freedom. A destiny that could kill me.
Forced to wear the face of my dead friend, I manage to overcome the brutality of living as a plaything for the heir of the Starlight pack. But surviving the heat of a Lycan awakening? That might actually kill me.
I finally escaped my captors, only to fall into the territory of a ruthless new Alpha, Lucas, who threatens to consume me entirely. On my 21st birthday, my secret is unveiled. I am a Lycan, the most hunted creature in existence.
Despised. Endangered. Feared.
My new flight leaves me with four mesmerising men now circling me, each igniting bonds with my wolf that I am helpless to control. I’m trapped in a deadly game. I need to survive the hunters behind me, and the men who want to claim me.
I am not just a wolf. I am a female Lycan, and I will not be broken.
Author's This is a Standalone RH Romantasy, that includes MF, MM, MFM, and MMFM scenes. There are also dark elements in this book, and the TW list should be read before reading. AI All of the words written in this book were written by the author.
Lycan Rising is a dark reverse harem wolf shifter romance that was not what I expected, in a good way. While it delivers on the spice, it’s actually very plot-forward, giving the relationships time to build in a way that feels natural and earned.
The FMC was a standout for me. She’s resilient, strong, and determined to survive, but what really sets her apart is that she never loses her empathy or sense of self, even after everything she’s been through. Her journey adds real emotional weight to the story. This is definitely a spicy read, and you need to be comfortable with a fully open dynamic, but it never felt overdone or excessive. The balance between plot and heat was really well done. That said, please check the trigger warnings. The beginning deals heavily with trauma and abuse, and it is depicted on the page.
I also loved that this is a standalone. In a genre full of long series, it was refreshing to get a complete, fast-paced story that didn’t feel rushed, even at over 500 pages.
Dark, intense, and surprisingly addictive—this one was a quick read that didn’t feel quick at all.
Lycan Rising follows an orphaned werwolf who was kidnapped and plotting her escape when she comes of age and then finds her four mates who support her and encourage her to be the best version of her self, the men also become involved with not only her but each, this dynamic really works in this storyline.
This book has the spice, drama, love and affection as well as a great story line for each of the characters and if you’re anything like me you will fall in love with them all.
I fell in love with Aspen from the very beginning, her resilience to keep going even though she was not in the best situation made me love her more and then the way the story progressed through the book was just fantastic.
The story between Lucas, Jackson, Nolan and Maddox really helped bring the this book alive more and has me wishing there could be a follow up book to see where their story and relationship goes.
Please make sure you read the triggers incase there is anything that makes you uncomfortable.
Thank you for a fabulous book, it hooked me from the first page and I may have forgotten to do my house work and spent the whole afternoon and night reading - Whoops but I honestly loved it and can’t wait to read more from you.
Omg I freaking loved this book SOOOO much! Be prepared to be absolutely hooked and drawn into a world of werewolves, lycans and more. I really loved the writing style and the characters wormed their way into my heart! The spice was SPICING and some scenes had me laughing so hard!! Nolan MY LOVE and Aspen my QUEEEENN and Maddox and Jackson and Lucas my BABIES they all worked so well together and this book is a solid 10/10 LOVEEEED 😍😍😍
The birth of a female lycan only happens when situations are dire
I absolutely LOVED the beginning of this book. However, I do feel like everything with Maddy was rushed as was the entire end of the story. It ended up being very anticlimactic and that was unfortunate.
We have a girl who's pack was eliminated because the Alpha was a Lycan. She was young and decided she was going to pretend to be her best friend. No one could know who she really was. The pack who attacked took her as a slave.
When she manages to escape she comes face to face with a man who is a Lycan. She fears for her safety among the stranger but he hears her pleas and takes her in. Enter the fact that everyone thinks he is a regular wolf and she shouldn't know his truth.
I loved her meeting with her first mate. It was so natural while also being unexpected. I loved seeing her find herself now that she was free. Unfortunately things go sideways when her first shift happens and she is something that shouldn't be possible.
I loved all the little connections between her mates that brought them all together. There were broken pieces within each of those relationships but she pushed them to fix everything so they could all find their happiest endings.
I really wanted more of the gifts, more of the mates stories and relationships and especially the whole show down at the end. A Maddy POV would really have been nice cause I felt like we missed out on so much leading up to those final moments and this made the end feel meh to me.
We don't really know what the aftermath of that showdown us either. It came across as just it was over but what now? There is no true resolution of what's next.
So ultimately I loved the beginning and needed so much more at the end. This mist definitely could and probably should be a duet.
I devoured this book. Like… absolutely could not put it down. What I loved most is that this wasn’t your typical predictable paranormal romance. The author took a storyline that could’ve easily gone cliché (the FMC getting kidnapped) and instead turned it into something powerful, emotional, and actually meaningful to the plot. The FMC?? She’s THAT girl. Yes, she goes through trauma—but she is not defined by it. Watching her fight through everything, process it, and still stand strong had me so invested in her journey. It wasn’t glossed over or rushed either—it felt real, and that made her strength hit even harder. And the tension??? 👀 The relationships, the buildup, the emotional pull… it all kept me hooked the entire time. Every interaction felt intentional and charged in the best way. If you love paranormal romance with: ✨ strong, resilient FMCs ✨ emotional depth + real stakes ✨ tension that actually delivers ✨ and a plot that keeps you flipping pages —you NEED to read this. I’m already ready for more because I am not done with this world yet.
I had the chance to read this as an ARC, and overall, it was a really enjoyable read. The plot was strong, and the storyline flowed well, with characters that felt connected and purposeful. Aspen, especially, stood out. Her strength and determination to survive made her easy to root for.
As someone who loves werewolf and lycan stories, this book definitely delivered on that front. And let’s just say… the spice scenes? They will leave you in a hot mess 🔥
That said, I did feel like something was missing. I was hoping for more intensity, more blood, more action, and a deeper, more consuming mate bond. It had the potential for that darker edge, but it didn’t fully go there.
There were also a few moments that could benefit from some editing, but nothing that takes away from the overall experience.
All in all, it’s a solid and enjoyable read especially if you love lycan stories, but I just wish it pushed the intensity a little further.
I loved the characters and the story. It was heartfelt and endearing, and oh, spicy! What was lacking is a proof reader and corrections. That would of made the book perfect!
Loved this book. You are hooked right from the beginning. It’s nice and spicy and had great plot and characters. You fall in love with all the guys just as Aspen does. If you love werewolves you will love this.
The plot was a good storyline and paced well. If you’re not into a lot of the gore or detailed battle scenes, this is a great read for you because the violent parts aren’t very graphic and resolve rather quickly. There are some great spicy scenes, and it does leave you wanting a continuation when it ends. My biggest issue with it is probably that it could use a good edit.
Oh my word I absolutely loved this book so much and couldn't put it down. I completely devoured this book! I love books that have polyamorous representation and this did a really great job of that in a paranormal universe. I love that there were multiple relationship dynamics and partners including MM. I easily fell in love with all the characters and I love a book with multiple POV!
Aspen has her world ripped apart when she's young as her pack is massacred and she's the only survivor taken to be a slave for over a decade. Abused physically, mentally and sexually she finally escapes running into an Alpha from another pack who shows her kindness she hasn't experienced since childhood. Once her wolf comes things take quite the change and she discovers she has multiple mates!
I loved all the main characters so much! Aspen was such a strong and resilient character, she may have gone through a lot of trauma but it did not define her. She was so supportive of all her guys too and I loved that. Lucas was that knight in shining armor type with this soft side I just absolutely adored him especially for Aspen and for all the men. He would do anything to make them all happy. Jackson had deep hurt from his past as well but he was able to let a lot of that hurt go and he brought such lightness to the group afterwards. He was the one to make everyone laugh and smile. How adorably cute was Nolan for real! I love me a shy, nerdy guy who blushes and he was just such a sweetheart I mean how could they not all fall for him! Then there's Maddox which I wish we got a little bit more time with because I think he would have ended up being one of my favourites. I still loved his darker tortured past appeal though and I think he brought a lot to the relationship dynamic.
You will want to read this book that delivers tension, action, romance and so much fantastic spice you can't put it down. I do mean that the spice was hot, hot, hot. This was definitely a shifter book worth reaching for!
I received a copy of Lycan Rising from Layla Nicole in exchange for an honest review.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. The story is engaging and fast-moving, with a emphasis on smut that will likely appeal to readers looking for something quick and spicy. There’s a clear sense of potential in both the premise and the character dynamics.
The main area where the novel could be strengthened is pacing and taking more time to get into world and character building. The story moves quite quickly, particularly when it comes to character development and the progression of key conflicts. Because of this, some emotional moments and relationships don’t have as much time to fully develop, which can make it more difficult to form a deeper connection with certain characters. In a few instances, conflicts arise and resolve so rapidly that the sense of tension or stakes feels somewhat limited.
The opening chapters, especially Aspen’s initial situation, are among the most distressing parts of the book. However, the emotional aftermath of these events makes them feel less impactful, and additional exploration here could have added greater depth and resonance to her overall character arc.
That said, the novel remains an enjoyable read, particularly for those who enjoy fast-paced stories with strong spice elements. With more room to breathe in key moments, the narrative could reach an even higher level of emotional impact.
I’m rating this 3 stars, and I look forward to seeing how the author continues to grow and refine their storytelling in future works.
From the first chapter, I did NOT want to put this book down! The FMC had such a tragic and traumatic childhood. She could have let this beat her but she never gave up. One by one, as she met her mates (lucky girl has four of them!), they helped her heal and gain the confidence to become a Baddie in her own right. She wasn’t the only only one healing invisible wounds; they all helped each other overcome their issues. One thing I love about the Omegaverse is that sexuality is fluid and no one really blinks an eye when men fall in love with each other. Love is Love! The other thing I love about the Omegaverse is the knotting; which is not a part of this verse. But I didn’t miss it with all the steamy, open door scenes. WOW!
Besides the steam and healing, the story line had plenty of intrigue and action, that the book was over before I realized it. The book ended and I still want more of this pack. Yes, it was a very happy ending, but I would like to know more about it. This is a standalone, but that won’t keep me from wishing for another installment.
Overall, this was an excellent Dark Romance with copious amounts of spice and action. A must read indeed.
Please check the triggers before reading this book. This is a DARK Romance. There is on page abuse and sexual assault to the FMC, and lots of on and off page violence. Your mental health is important!
I received a copy of Lycan Rising by Layla Nicole and wanted to share my thoughts.
This book is written as a standalone and definitely gave me a one-shot fanfic kind of vibe. The story starts off with some darker themes, though overall it was a bit more tame than I initially expected it to be.
There is a lot of spice in this book — and I mean a lot. If you’re reading this purely for the spicy scenes, you will absolutely get what you came for. The book includes alpha/omega dynamics, multiple partners for the FMC, and multiple POVs. There is also some boy love included, so if any of those elements aren’t your thing, this may not be the book for you.
Since it’s a standalone, I did feel like the world building and deeper plot development were a bit lacking, which personally left me wanting more from the story side. I tend to enjoy more world building and plot alongside the romance, but readers who prefer fast-paced, spice-forward stories will probably enjoy this one more.
Overall, this book will definitely find its audience, especially among readers who enjoy omegaverse dynamics, multiple POVs, and very spicy paranormal romance.
Also, one unforgettable takeaway from this book: ranch on pizza is a crime and I will not be convinced otherwise.
I really appreciated the character building. All five of them were intelligent and capable. The interactions between the mates (mostly sexual) was well written. Aspen was strong and sure in herself, which I find especially engaging. One thing that really stood out for me was the perfect acceptance of sexuality. There was no tension or judgement and it was refreshing.
Where I had issues was the plot. This book was long, but there was very little world building. The conflict was not really described well and the climax of the conflict was completely rushed. With four mates, the majority of the book was in the relationship development and very little towards the backstory and theme for example wolves versus lycan or council versus lycan. And witches?
A couple of nit pick issues, sorry. There were a few too many typos. Not enough to take me out of the story, but enough to notice. And, this was bigger for me, there were many times I couldn’t tell who was speaking. This did take me out of the story. There was a lot of dialogue. The POC changed periodically, but there was no annotation of who was speaking. With this much dialogue, it became confusing.
“I received an advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review”
Wow! This was a great read if you like to read fantasy, dark romance, strong female character, wolf/lycan shifters this is the book for you.
Aspen is a Lycan who was believed dead as a little girl. The pack who took her mistook her for someone else. She gave them a different name and they turned her into a slave for 13 years. When she finally escaped she came upon a dire wolf who took her in and kept her safe but could she trust him?
When her wolf finally comes to her she is a dire wolf as well. A dire wolf is a lycan and they are being hunted to be destroyed.
Her wolf claims Lucas as her mate but they need to find answers. They go to someone Lucas trusts Jax. But her wolf claims him as her mate as well. How can that be? They need answers and here comes Nolan who she claims as her mate. And even one more mate is being called to her.
She is an Alpha and she is the only one who can save them all.
This is a very spicy book. I love that is a stand alone Dark Romance Fantasy book. I would highly recommend to my DR girlies.

I liked the overall premise of the book and where it wanted to go. It just never got there for me. The writing was very basic and overall felt very rushed, made it extremely hard to get invested in the story and hard to follow along at times. There were pages of dialogue with multiple characters talking with no indication who was speaking. There was no world building , no character development and no group dynamic development. All of a sudden she has 3 mates who all want to be together with no romantic growth. The first “villain” in the story is taken out without any “on screen” confrontation/revenge arc, it was very unsatisfying to read. The FMC goes through some serious trauma in the beginning of the book and just bounces back in a chapter. It was so unrealistic and unrelatable. I tried so hard to get through this book but DNF’d at 70% bc the plot and writing just kept getting worse. If you’re looking for a book that is surface level plot with the main point being spice, you may enjoy it more than I did.
Layla Nicole's debut book, Lycan Rising is a fast-paced, well written, paranormal romance that immediately grabs hold of the readers attention.
This book is about friendship, loyalty, love, self-growth, and refusal to give in to bullies, regardless of the form they take. It's about standing up for what is right, and daring to change an entire governmental system because a couple of groups are different and they believe everyone needs to be treated with the same respect.
The only reason I am choosing to give this book a four-star rating is because the writing seems to be a little simplistic - maybe too simplistic. While it makes for easy reading, there were times I felt as if I were reading a book geared for a young teen even though the plot is completely geared for adults. That being said, the grammar is well done, and there are very few errors found in the book, showing the pride, and care taken throughout this work. If there is a sequel to this book, I will definitely enjoy seeing how that book grows compared to this first book.
Lycan Rising is a fast-paced why-choose paranormal romance filled with action, conflict, raw emotion and SPICE. It follows Aspen, a resilient FMC whose life path is deeply shaped by childhood trauma, giving her journey both weight and purpose. Over time, her story comes full circle as she meets her four fated mates. The four MMCs, Lucas, Jackson, Nolan and Maddox, bring their own complexity, with a tangled, overlapping history that explores bi-awakening and unexpected, intertwined destinies. Their dynamics add depth and tension to the story beyond the central romance. The overall plot is well-developed, and the characters feel layered and engaging. While the storyline is easy to follow, some conflicts resolve a bit too neatly, where more depth could have added impact. This is an enjoyable read and a great entry point for anyone looking to dip their toes into both why-choose and paranormal romance.
Reverse harem? Lycan shifters? All-out war without the gore? Spice, plot, and everyone hot? Lycan Rising is for you. Amara, or Aspen, harbors a dark secret that, if revealed, could cost her her very life. Forced to take on the identity of one close to her, Aspen lives a life of hardship, hidden from the world, but not the eyes of her captive Alpha’s son. Aspen now has limited time to escape or be forced to reveal the very secret she fought hard to hide, and what her father died for.
What happens when she comes across Lucas, alpha of a rival pack, who also harbors the same secret? Next enter Jax, a bitter ex-friend or lover of the ever-plotting Lucas. Then sweet and timid Nolan, and finally the take-charge and charge, Maddox? It’s a recipe for a spicy plot twist on shifter lore. A tale of love, protection, and Lycan vs. wolves. Who comes out on top? How is Aspen the key to ending it all?
Lycan Rising is fast-paced, but takes time to focus on the development between the characters. You’ll read all the spice (MF, MMF, MM, MMM, MMMF) and catch mere glimpses of the violence. A different take on what we know from shifter romance stories.

If you like when her boyfriend has a boyfriend, who has a boyfriend, who has a boyfriend and they are all confident in their sexuality to want each other than this spicy why choose with omegaverse dynamics is for you.
Warning! Trigger warning for SA on the page and mention of it through out.
Tropes * secret identity * Ill catch you * Fated mates * Sword crossing (MMFMM) * Secret powers
A Lycan war is coming and she’s their hope but doesn’t know it. She has four fated mates and four mental powers that show themselves in times of heightened emotions.
Really enjoyed this and couldn’t put it down, though the pacing of the book changed towards the end where it felt more rushed than just the climax and action happening. However that didn’t impact my overall feelings on the book and definitely still enjoyed it. This is a very spicy book so if you like spice you’ll love this, if it’s not for you than I would avoid. But personally the spice was 🤌🏻

Lycan Rising is a standalone reverse harem involving wolf shifters. This story was very fast-paced and had quite a bit of plot twist. It was a fun read.
The Spice----🔥🔥 There were quite a bit of scenes, but they were so fast and happened without too much build-up or lead into
The characters---- The FMC had a great character build. The MMCs were unique at first, but then I felt their characters blend over time. I am an easy to please reader. Normally, I absolutely love insta love scenarios. Some of these were way way to instant. I would have loved a little bit of bonding, hell, even names , exchanged.
Th Plot---- loved all the twists. Every time I thought I would know what's coming, it would flip. I just wished it wasn't so rushed. it felt very rushed at times that I didn't even get to fully absorb the last reveal.
I enjoyed this. The earlier part of the story engaged me more, with Aspen/Amara’s early life, treatment, and subsequent escape where she meets Lucas. There’s a lot of the ‘Moon Goddess’ putting things into place, which allows for a lot of the plot and relationships to develop quickly into romantic ones. There were things that I felt could have been done differently, Lucas spends most of his time away from his pack, and there are no issues. The Council and the speed of the ending regarding this and just the speed of it all in general. This is a medium to fast burn, where everyone is involved with everyone. Lots of swords crossed. As much as I loved Nolan, I felt Aspen got lost as the lead character about halfway through the book. I wanted her as the centrepiece. The spicy scenes were hot 🔥 🔥🔥🔥 and the author writes really great mm 🥵🥵🥵🌶️🌶️🌶️🥵🥵🥵
This book was good but could be better. Towards the middle to the end of the book the dialogue gets kinda confusing. More people get added in as the story progresses and it doesn’t indicate who is talking or even to whom. You kinda have to reread a couple parts to understand who says what. Chemistry for me was lacking. Aspens first mate seemed to get all the story building and chemistry development while the effort for the rest seemed to dissipate with each new one. I get that with mates it’s supposed to pretty much be instantaneous but there could have been a little more. While I did mostly enjoy reading this book it took me longer than most to finish. I lost interest part way through and took a couple days to get back. I guess overall to me the effort declines throughout the book for everything.

The relationships and connections here gave me Psycho Shifter Vibes, but more wholesome.
There is a heavy male to male presence, so be warned if that is not your jam. There are also some very heavy themes at the very start of the book that is encourage you to check triggers for.
I felt this book gave pay per chapter book energy, and that is a compliment and the reason I finished the book in two days. That being said, I wanted a little more depth from the characters. I also wanted more healing from our FMC. After her traumatic past, I felt her relationships were rushed.
The storyline was great and I appreciated the time the author put into the plot and character connections.
This would have been a four star read, but there needs to be another round of existing, as I noticed a few mistakes.
A wonderful, fast-paced, RH, shifter romance. The FMC is strong relatable and resilient. The story grabs you and sucks you in immediately. A lot is happening and you find yourself rooting for her all the way through. The MMCs are each so different and compliment the FMC and each other perfectly. The story has you wanting to know what's gonna happen right now. You won't want to stop reading.
The only reason for four stars and not five is that about half way through ( and this could just be me), the story seems to go from fast-paced to rushed. I'd like to be in the moment with the characters a little longer and really feel the stress of the struggles, the pain and fear with the situations and ultimately the joy of the resolution.
Overall it's A great read and I have zero regrets. I highly recommend giving this a try.
First, I was really impressed at how well written this book was- there is a great storyline that accompanies the spice. The first little bit of the book details some life as a slave with some oral SA so I was worried where the rest of the book was going, but after those chapters, it was great + consentual. All the main characters were mature, grew into themselves, and added to the team.
Second, spice- this is a RH book through and through 👏🏻 there is a lot of spice from all different pairings whiting the RH. The men openly discuss their feelings towards each other and pursue relationships, meaning there's FM, MM, MFM and probably more abbreviations I don't know.
Overall it was a great change up to RH with emotional maturity and lots of exploration!
Thank you to Layla Nicole for letting me ARC read this book!
Here’s my honest review:
To start I want to say how much I loved this book! I fell for the characters and got pulled into the plot lines, living every moment with them.
I love the character development, with the multiple mates. I’m always a sucker for a RH and this one didn’t disappoint! The spice in this book was on another level!!
As for grammar there were a few minor spelling errors or a missed word but it’s not overly noticeable and didn’t put me off reading ahead.
I also felt the ending felt a bit rushed after the fight, the next chapters just summarising up multiple scenarios that could’ve been written about in more detail, with their own chapters maybe.
Though I’m happy about the HEA ending and glad that it all worked out in the end!
Overall I really enjoyed it! Thank you for the opportunity!

This was a why choose Reverse harem About a girl named Aspen who was captured by a rival pack of werewolfs at a young age and is forced to be their slave. Until 13 years later she finally escapes just in time to come into her wolf on on her 21st birthday and soon after she comes into heat and finds out she does not just have one fated mate she has multiple. Thats just one layer of This book like i said its spicy it has alot of MM action. But on top of that the plot was mixed in just right and want swallowed up TO MUCH by smut. The storyline has a Mix of powers and references of witches, seers and Lycan hunters. All and all it was a perfect little mixture that I quite enjoyed and would recommend.
If you’re obsessed with werewolves and secret societies, Lycan Rising by Layla Nicole is a must-read! The story drops you right into the life of a teen who discovers the world is way stranger (and more dangerous) than they ever imagined. The main character has to deal with sudden changes, hidden powers, and figuring out who to trust, all while trying to survive high school drama—talk about stressful!
The writing style is fast-paced and keeps you hooked. There’s a ton of suspense, a bit of romance, and lots of action-packed twists. I loved how the characters felt real, especially when it came to friendship, loyalty, and making tough choices.
If you’re into supernatural stories with strong leads and a thrilling plot, definitely add Lycan Rising to your TBR list. Four stars from me!
****Spoiler This was a bit of a fast paced book. Didn't get much time to love each character before they started to love eachother. Besides Lucas you didn't get to see her grow and get to know everyone as much. A bit sad you don't get to see Madox join the group much he is just sort of thrown in there at the end. Don't get to see the bonds grow the the other two which would of been nice.
And the ending of the book felt rushed felt more like just a 3rd person coles notes of what happend But an overall fun book to read.... Nolan was probably my favorite he is just a cutieee;). I love a Reverse harem that has the Mmc together aswell I think that make it way more fun and interesting.
