Ellen DeGeneres has bought and renovated nearly a dozen homes over the last twenty-five years, and describes her real-estate and decorating adventures as "an education." She has long cared deeply about design: "I think I wanted to be an interior designer when I was thirteen."
This deluxe edition of Homeis printed on extremely high quality paper, printed on a sheet-fed press, and bound in a real cloth covered case with a tipped in photo of Ellen DeGeneres' living room featuring her Picasso. In Home, DeGeneres will, for the first time, share her passion for home design and style. She believes, "You don't have to have money to have good taste," and she is eager to share what she has learned over the years. DeGeneres offers a personal look at every room in each of her homes. Included are seven of her homes past and present, from the famous "Brody House" up to her current homes, and she offers tips and advice on what each house taught her. An added bonus is a look at the homes of her friends and collaborators-some of the finest designers in the country. They share their advice on home design, furnishings, as well as a glimpse at their awe-inspiring rooms.
Full of beautiful photographs, this book is a treasure trove of amazing California architecture, unique home furnishings, breathtaking art, and hundreds of ideas on putting together the home you've always dreamed of.

Home - Ellen DeGeneres I didn’t love this one either. DeGeneres manages to live the Kinfolk lifestyle, and it is interesting to see furniture and art at home in different settings. But the style doesn’t grab me, so the effect is browsing through a catalog knowing there is nothing in it that I could afford. Ever. And like the Kinfolk book, there’s a fair amount of shopping detail for anyone who wants to copy the look, which would be a feature if I loved everything, but is annoying when I don’t. The decorating advice feels very obvious to me. The best parts are when the author talks about why she did what she did, or what this thing means to me.
I think Ellen has great style. I also love the many, many beautiful photographs in this book. Her text was light and funny, and I enjoyed the bulleted lists at the end of each chapter. There was also something comforting about seeing many of the same furnishings in different spaces. So why not more stars? Honestly, it was the photo captions. They listed every unique designer and age of the pieces. Everything Ellen owns is unique and beautiful. Just like Ellen. The reality of their origin made it impossible to believe that someday I would have something similar in my house. It will never happen. I bet her Hollywood friends loved that part though.
Lots if fun to look at and it's really very beautiful. Ellen also puts a funny joke at the end of each little list for each property. I loved her stables and would want that for my horses...when I get to have some lol. But hands down my favorite, an the home that I want as my own, is The Villa! Well, Ellen says she thinks she wants it as her forever home too, so it's not gonna be available anytime soon..or in my budget haha :P But yeah, THAT'S the home I'd wanna live in if I had to live in CA.
Oh! And she lists the stores she buys from at the end too! So if you're so inclined, you can check 'em out and shop for the same types of awesome antiques and furniture as well:) Pretty great resource.
I received this book as a gift from my mom. I sat down to read it today and realized that whenever Ellen and Portia were bored they just moved. Which I guess you can do when you are in the 1% and you have people to pack your shit and redecorate for you every time.
It’s hard for me to imagine living in so many fascinating homes! The photography is lovely and the interior design in each and every home is incredible. The antiques took my breath away, and I have to say The Villa is my absolute favorite, hands down.
The front flap blurb credits Ellen DeGeneres as saying, "You don't have to have money to have good taste." However, that's not the guiding principle of this design book.
The lush photos show seven houses in California that DeGeneres (and Portia DeRossi) have recently lived in and redecorated with advice from the eight designers / collaborators / friends whose homes are featured at the end of the book.
The decor of these homes includes 18th and 19th Century rugs, tables, and chairs from France, England, and Sweden; pairs of vintage chairs by "name" designers; and DeGeneres's collection of African artifacts. Some items, including a handwritten sign reading "BREED THIS COW" were used in several houses.
Home is more of a peak into Ellen DeGeneres's lifestyle than a steal-this-idea book - unless you have space for a ping pong table in your foyer.
I enjoyed the little summaries, what I learned from this home. I liked the big pictures. The Southern California style with windows and doors that let the living areas inside and outside flow together is really nice. There's a concept in the book called "good uglies". I don't know if they are good but a lot of it was ugly.
Drool-worthy spaces and gorgeous photographs. I do like Ellen's eclectic decorating style - sculptural tables and chairs, interesting lamps, vintage textiles. It's interesting to see how a single guiding aesthetic can translate to multiple difference spaces - from a bunch of barns and ranch outbuildings to a stark ultramodern showpiece of a house. Very Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous but fun for a peek and a daydream.
May come back to this as a reference for what a wealthy person's house really looks like, instead of the hackneyed chrome and leather or gilt and marble that's always described in books.
I can't deny that it is interesting to get a private look into the homes of Ellen DeGeneres, but unless you have a similar taste to her (which this book has shown me I so obviously do not), it is boring. The pictures are great, her insight is great, but you do need to have an interest in a specific style of interior design to enjoy this book.
Dance 10. Looks 3. I enjoyed the writing . Ellen's voice is heard and it reads like a conversation ( which she's clearly good at). Her design aesthetic is not mine and the pieces are way beyond my price range. As another reviewer noted, it was a bit like reading a catalog of things you can't afford and possibly wouldn't choose for your own home.
Not what I expected after reading a couple hilarious books by Ellen... I'm sure this book is very interesting if you're into interior design, with rather expensive furniture and art. Beautiful pictures of gorgeous homes and furniture, and some really unusual items. I skimmed through the second half in hopes it would turn into something I could relate to more, but it didn't.
I loved this decorating book. Ellen's style isn't really my style, but I loved her different home looks and how she can decorate a home, sell it, and do it all over again. She is an inspiration with her "Things that taught me about this Home" references. I also loved the decorators she worked with. Very fresh and interesting!
If you share Ellen's decorating tastes, you should enjoy this one, as her 12 homes pretty much resemble each other: open, airy, lots of light colors and sunshine. As I am a nosy person, I always jump at the chance to see someone's STUFF, so I enjoyed the visit. I recommend BORROWING this one rather than BUYING, however.
Picked up in a free book box, just for curiosity. Often home style books give me a boost to declutter or reconsider how we use a space in our house, but this was not that. It wasn't the kind of look or lifestyle (buy new place, redecorate, move to new place, redecorate, find new place) that fit or inspired me, but I guess I got something out of it, because I went through it all.
i love interior design, and it turns out Ellen does too. we have slightly different budgets to play with. in addition to pretty pictures and cool houses and design ideas, this book has a one page introduction that made me laugh so hard my stomach was hurting.
Fantastic. Ellen is well versed in Home design and the book is full of lessons and anecdotes. Beautiful photos full of inspiration for those who are seeking it.
I really enjoyed this book as I was pleased to see Ellen moved furniture and objects into each of her new homes/projects. She has a great eye for vintage and art.
A collection of homes owned by Ellen de Generes which displays her personal style. I discovered we have different styles. She uses lots of neutrals, modern paintings, and furnishings.
Filled with lots of photos of Ellen's homes is interesting. She writes a little explaining the home, the pieces and the designers which has her characteristic charm/wit.
Her home is beautiful.... It's a big dream to have such a wonderful home with such beautiful art gallery and antic handicrafts. Loved it. This book is really for Ellen's fans 🤗
