KnotMe #1

Swipe My Alpha

Rate this book
I downloaded KnotMe for a hookup. Anonymous, no-strings, one-night knotting. That's it. That's the plan.

The alpha I matched with is hot, flirty in the DMs, and follows instructions like it's his religion. We book a hotel room. He does things to me that make me forget my own name. Then he bites me. Claims me. And I wake up bonded to a stranger whose name I don't even know.

I figure I'll never see him again. Then I walk into class and there he is.

My anonymous hookup is my TA. The put-together, rule-following TA who's now staring at me like I just detonated his entire life. Which, honestly? Same.

He's everything I shouldn't want. I'm everything he can't afford. And every time I'm near him, my omega purrs, my knees go weak, and I'm thinking about his knot instead of all the reasons this is a bad idea.

If you're looking for a sweet and spicy MM omegaverse romance with a hookup app that delivers fate instead of a one-night stand, a mouthy omega, a TA who's about to risk it all, and a bond that's instant, filthy, and permanent — you're in the right place. No slow burn. Just a trashy app, a fated bite, and a guaranteed HEA.

Jude + Rhys 🖤
Supposed to be an anonymous hookup | Fated mates | College student + TA

"He smells it too. He smells the way I smell him and we both know what this is. This isn't a hookup. This isn't anonymous. This is fate handing us a live grenade and pulling the pin."

"He left. My mate just left. And I dont even know his name."

The interaction in the classroom when they both realize who the other is and Jude's friend's commentary had me absolutely dying 😂 "a horny Krispy Kreme". Like wtf. Shit shouldn't even be that funny.

Now waiting for Milo's book.

Huh. I'm not really sure how to feel about this one. The writing itself was interesting and I liked it, but it sort of got exhausting after a while. It didn't quite fit this genre/vibe (smutty omegaverse novella). It was more lyrical than I would've expected and it didn't always feel right.

Things that did work for me:

- NESTING! I am a big time nesting slut and the inclusion of that here was one of the reasons I picked it up in the first place. Tbh there could have been even more of it, but I liked what I got.

- D/s dynamic but with the omega being the dom. The only problem was that the dynamic didn't stay consistent, which is fine but the shifting felt a little random.

- Omega friend squad! They were very silly and I love a tight knit friend group who have good banter with each other.

- Jude's personality. I feel so strongly like a lot of people will hate him and I absolutely get it. But I also kind of like unlikeable MCs sometimes? I have no idea what that's about and maybe I should get checked out about it but here we are.

Things that decidedly did NOT work for me:

- Jude's attitude about his hookups. Like, I don't love this type of MC in general, not because there's anything wrong with people who enjoy casual sex but because of how they're written. It can be done well (Casey Hicks from Time to Shine is the perfect example), the problem is that authors insist on writing them in a gross way where they're disrespectful toward the people they hook up with. I give a little grace for Jude here because he's specifically using a hook up app and presumably the alphas he's with understand the deal but it still isn't my favorite thing to read an MC that I'm supposed to root for being kinda disrespectful about the guys he's fucked.

- Jude's reasoning for being anti relationship. I hate the trope where an MC has been hurt by someone in the past so they will make every future potential LI pay for it, but this one was extra egregious because the author was too lazy to even explain what happened to Jude. Wtf.

- Rhys. I wanted to like him so bad but he was so passive, and I don't mean in a submissive bedroom role way (that was fine). He barely pursued Jude at all, it truly did not seem like he was that affected by him. And in a world where there's plenty of growly possessive alphas to chose from, I'm not choosing one who seems unbothered.

- The love/romance. Why did this author chose to have their entire relationship take place off page? Literally every moment of them falling in love is off page and the "declarations" made me wanna die a little. I want to feel something damnit! Oh! And the smut wasn't even that great. The scenes were all way too brief. Just have one or two and spend some time on them! Jesus.

But the REAL issue I had with this was that the taboo/forbidden element of it was dog shit. I will 100% never buy any omegaverse story with fated mates that tries this. If it is a universally accepted fact that fated mates exist and it is a biological imperative, nobody would get in trouble for their relationship. Father's best friend? Teacher/student? Ex-boyfriend's brother? Work supervisor? Whatever, it literally doesn't matter because this is some magical thing that you have no control over and it happens to EVERYONE. So who could mad about anything? Yes, you should disclose it once you know it and things might have to change in certain situations to accommodate it, but nobody is gonna get in trouble for something they have zero control over! That's ridiculous. Grae Bryan's Overeager, which features an omega professor/alpha student pair, makes sense as a forbidden relationship because that universe doesn't have "fated mates" - they made a choice to be together (even if there's some biological element because their pheromones smell better to each other than other people's). But here? That conflict just can't exist.

Anyway, this wasn't awful or anything and I'm gonna give it 3 stars but I don't think it works for what it was trying to do.

But this one stops me. The photo is just hands. Strong hands with long fingers, blunt nails, a simple black watch on one wrist. They're holding a book open, thumb pressed against the spine, the pages slightly bent. There's something about the image that short-circuits my scroll. The hands look deliberate. Capable. Like they know exactly what they're doing and they're in absolutely no rush to prove it. His bio is three words: I follow instructions. "Oh fuck," I say.

He looks like trouble walked into a Forever 21 and said make it hot.

Every cell in my body is screaming one word so loud I can't hear anything else. Mine. I freeze. My hands are shaking. Not the nervous trembling from before. Something deeper. Something primal that I've never felt, not once, not with anyone. My alpha is clawing to the surface like it's been asleep my entire life and just woke up starving.

I sit in the middle of the wrecked bed. The sheets smell like him. Like us. Like something permanent that just walked out the door. My mouth tastes like his skin and my hands still feel the shape of him and there's a bite mark on someone's neck that has my name written into it except I don't know his name and he doesn't know mine.

"So," he says. "You're Rhys Calder. My TA." "And you're Jude Park. My student." "Your student who you knotted in a hotel room and bit without asking." "My student who matched with me on a hookup app and told me to, and I quote, 'show me what those hands can do.'"

"This is a big deal," I say. My voice comes out quieter than I want it to. "I know." "Like, this isn't a hookup thing. This is a key-to-your-apartment thing." "I know what it is." "You're giving your student a key to your apartment." "I'm giving my mate a key to our home."

"You're beautiful," he says against my thigh, and he sounds ruined by it. "You're so beautiful. I can't believe you're here. I can't believe you stayed." "I'm not going anywhere." It comes out before I can filter it. Honest and raw and I mean it. I mean it in a way I've never meant anything.

"You're so beautiful like this. Riding me, taking what you want. I'm yours. I'm completely yours." "Say that again." "I'm yours. Everything I have is yours. The apartment, my career, all of it. You come first. Always."

This is a novella, so I'm judging it according to novella standards.

Jude is 21, an omega. He is known for being the fun guy you hook up with, but not the guy that you make your boyfriend. He's embraced that. He matches with an alpha, and hooks up with him in a hotel anonymously. It's supposed to be one and done, but they realize mid hook up that they are fated mates, and Rhys can't resist biting him and claiming him as his mate. Jude runs. But they meet again quickly, because Rhys (25) is actually Jude's TA in a college class. They can't stay away from each other, and they give in and embrace their feelings for each other, but their relationship is inappropriate due to Rhys being his TA, so there's a little drama to overcome around that.

This was a pleasant novella. Jude was a feisty character, and I liked that he stood up for himself, bossed Rhys around. And there were some funny snarky moments, and moments of strong friendship between Jude and his friend group.

The timeline was a little unbelievable, that Rhys had already been in his role long enough to be grading Jude's papers before they hooked up, yet hadn't seen him before. And the conflict was really unsubtle and resolved quick, but it is a novella.

Some notable moments:

I enjoyed Jude's friends giving him s***. ""Is that," he says. His voice has gone very high. "Jude. Is that a claiming bite." "It's a hickey." "That is not a hickey. I've given hickeys and I've received hickeys and that is a full-on, permanent, you-are-now-biologically-bonded-to-another-person claiming bite." His eyes are huge. "From HAND GUY? The anonymous hookup? You let an anonymous alpha CLAIM you?" "It wasn't— I didn't let him, it just happened, we were in the middle of things and it got intense and his teeth were just—" "HIS TEETH WERE JUST?!""

"Benji: CODE RED CODE RED JUDE'S HAND GUY IS THE HOT TA Benji: I AM SITTING IN THE CLASSROOM RIGHT NOW WATCHING THIS HAPPEN IN REAL TIME Benji: JUDE LOOKS LIKE HE'S GOING TO PASS OUT OR COME OR BOTH"

""Milo's bringing three kinds of dip and Soren's bringing wine he got from the campus market that probably cost four dollars. I told Benji to bring nothing because last time he brought those weird chips that tasted like punishment." "They weren't that bad." "You ate one and made a face like you'd been betrayed." "I was being polite." "You spit it into a napkin." "Politely.""

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

Dang it, I really wanted to like this WAY more than I did. The premise sounded SO Fking good!!
… And it ended up being so bad.

I don’t know, either I’m not THAT into omegaverse, or I just stick too hard to the usual stereotypes 🤷‍♀️

First off, there is a dominant Omega x submissive Alpha dynamic. The Omega basically orders the Alpha in bed. NOT my thing at all, but hey, there’s a buyer for everything, so I’m not judging.

Second… what the fuck is the omega building a nest for?? Are you what, a flipping pigeon, bro?

I haven’t read omegaverse in a couple of years, so maybe the genre has evolved RAPIDLY and I’m just wayyyyy behind.
Someone PLEASE prove me wrong and explain this so I don’t find it SO Fking CRINGE. 🙈

And to top it off, Rhys (the alpha) gives Jude (the omega) a spare key to HIS OWN apartment after knowing him for like 3 DAYS, TOPS. Then, when they have a fight, Jude tells him to fuck off and leave.

I’ll hold your hands while I tell you this, Jude…
IT’S NOT. YOUR. FUCKING. APARTMENT. 👏

And you know what Rhys does? He actually leaves 💀
Okay, byeee! Please never come back!

I almost DNFed this, but DNFing a 94-page book is just… ugh.
…and mama raised no quitter… unfortunately 🙈

I’ll write a nicer review next time, I promise 💗

〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️

Okeyyyy, I absolutely loved it! This was exactly what I needed to ward off the reading slump that's been breathing down my neck😭🫠🫠.

I totally adored Jude and Rhys's relationship 🥹. They are the perfect mix of sweet and spicy, and I couldn't help but squeal at every single scene, even if they felt super cliché! 🤭 Plus, the found family dynamic that developed by the end is everything that is right with this world❤️‍🩹.

I am dying to read the rest of the stories featuring the Swipe Squad! 👀🤭🔥💖💖

There were continuity errors for me. I didn’t like that the consent issue with the bite wasn’t really addressed. I know it’s a novella, but I don’t think there was enough development of feelings. It felt entirely like lust, not love.

This was a fast burn OV romance, where an anonymous hookup becomes more than they expected when they scent match and biology decides for them.
I like the forbidden love elements, the drama and tension, and the supportive omega friendship group.

This was the just the book I needed - low angst, high steam, good writing.

Rhys ❤️ Jude

- Jude meets Rhys anonymously on a Knott dating app and they realize - mid hookup - that they are fated mates.
- Rhys bites Jude without knowing his name or really anything about him.
- Jude leaves in a bit of a panic, not because he’s necessarily upset about the bite, but he’s just emotionally overwhelmed.

They learn shortly thereafter that Jude is a student in the class in which Rhys is the TA. Jude tries to resist, but can’t bc of the whole mated biology whatnot and Rhys is just a sweetheart who’s smitten and keeps trying to get in touch w him. Eventually, they can’t stay away from each other and the story goes from there.

Rhys freaks out at one point that his boss knows they’re together and I love how that conversation played out. Rhys reacts without consulting w Jude and Jude responds by telling him clearly how he feels and setting his boundaries. I love how Rhys listened and respected him. It shows a maturity in both men and allows me to believe in their connection and love.

- No third act breakup
- All the communication
- 21 yr old college omega (Jude) and 25 yr old graduate student TA, alpha (Rhys)
- gentle alpha and outgoing omega (hiding a sweet and slightly damaged heart).
- Cute banter - their little banter before their hookup made their connection even more fun and believable.
- All the heat - knotting, biting, heat in epilogue; can’t keep their hands off each other
- Jude moves in w Rhys; nesting; wears his clothes
- Friends: Jude has a close group of omega friends; their stories will likely be next
- MM; no virgins; no mpreg
- No OM
- Dual POV; HEA. Bonded fated mates; several month later epilogue. Heat in extended epilogue

I dropped a star bc we really didn’t get much background on Rhys.

❤️ But overall, a well done story w just the right amount of heart and feels.

It just felt a little rushed and jumped a bit to where we missed plot. There were also a few continuity issues.

In chapter 5, when Jude walked into Rhys’ office for the first time he says “So, you’re Rhys Calder. My TA.” Then a page later they have the below interaction: "I'm not grade-flirting. It was good. Your argument about carbon pricing was—"
"Rhys." He says my name for the first time and my whole body lights up.

That would have been the second time Jude said Rhys’ name.

In chapter 7, after their fight and Rhys goes to his car, he decides to fix the issue and drives to his office where he emails the department head.
Then I start the engine and drive to my office. The email to Dr. Albright takes a long time to write and about one second to decide to send.
But in the next chapter when he’s at Jude’s telling him what he did, Jude said that Rhys sent it last night and Rhys confirms that he did before he left the parking lot. "You sent this last night," I say. "Before I left the parking lot."

These are just little things that I notice that take me out of the story sometimes.

💘 Rhys + Jude

Let's just say Jude is a scorned omega who hides his insecurities and loneliness behind a loud, confident persona but deep down he just wants to be loved. Rhys is a bit of a weak alpha that likes to be bossed around.

Ugh. I've come to the conclusion that this author loves to create drama to push the plot and it's EXHAUSTING. I love these little novellas because they're supposed to be easy and comforting. Lexie Slater doesn't do that.

So while this story isn't bad, it's just not doing it for me. And that's okay! I may step away from this author moving forward.

ohhhh this was better than expected

Lexi is a new author to me and I am blown away! My only wish for this book is that it was longer lol… A TA and a student meet for a hook up and find out they’re faded mates… There is no angst in this book, there is only dirty, filthy sweetness! I will be reading all of her backlist and finding more books.

I am not generally a fan of college age as I have been out of that group for a couple of decades, but these boys are mature and fabulous so it doesn’t feel like their young enough to my kids Lolol.

This was so fun! I wanted more! I love Jude. He's bold and funny. I also love Rhys. He's caring and intelligent. I adore how these two meet and have an instant connection that turns into a scent match. I understand why Jude was so scared of the match and the bite and I love the tension when Rhys turns out to be his TA. I enjoy the side characters as well and look forward to their books. Overall, this was really precious and sweet. The nesting was superb. I just need more!

That was really unexpectedly sweet. If you’re a fan of any of Lexi’s other books, you’ll feel right at home with this one. It varies only slightly from the previous works but ditched the villain arc for some oddly pleasant angst that lasts about 14 seconds and a really great found family. This is a quick read that I found thoroughly enjoyable and very thoroughly seasoned (spice, get it?)

A MM romance novella which was exactly the smutty (3.5/5 🔥), started with a hookup but found fated mate & bonded, insta-love book it was said to be. Plus, the insta love actually seemed kinda believable!
Easily read this in 1hr 20min or so! I read this fast & maybe skimmed, but didn't skip stuff <3 I had fun with it!

I liked the dynamics of Rhys being the calm, instruction-follower, nerd with tattoos alpha x Jude who's a talkative, fun & funny, chaotic omega. J's friends/roomies are fun, I'm excited who they get paired up with!

What happens when your anonymous hookup turns out to be your mate? Run. But what if he's your TA too? Run again. But how long can you resist fate?

A part I liked was that J & R both end up doing a thing that hurts the other, but they also both redeem themselves. There's a climax fight but it resolves fast & efficiently, I've seen its variations in various forbidden books lol. Kinda thought they'd handle it better from start, but alas.

As this is a shortie, most relationship development happens off-page & something's are told not shown, sucks but I expected that. I loved the writing style & all the individuality still given to the MCs & the besties - so that was cool. The bonus was fun!

P.s. the ILY text was sent by J 1st so why'd R should've said it IRL...? I guess in response? 🤔

A quick and fun read. Low angst, a bit rushed in the romance department but overall okay.

I admit what I loved the most about this book was the Swipe Squad. They all sound like a bunch of goofy and lovable bunch.

Edit to add that I wish we would’ve seen Jude and Rhys interacting with their parents.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I mean this was short but sweet. Rhys and Jude were all sorts of cute and I love that they were completely themselves around each other. I actually quite enjoyed the third act drama in this. Jude knowing his worth and having a backbone while Rhys realizes that Jude matters more than anything else. I love that shit.
