Star Date Island #1

Falling for Love

Rate this book
Six women.
One alien planet.
And a dating show where warlords, princes, and warriors from across the galaxy compete for the chance to claim their fated human mate.

When Emma signed up for Star Date Island, she thought she’d be competing for the heart of some billionaire celebrity. What she didn’t expect was to wake up on another planet at Eros Estate—and discover the men vying for her attention aren’t human.

They’re aliens.
Very powerful aliens.
And apparently… they love curvy human women.

For the first time in her life, Emma isn’t “too much.” Not too loud. Not too bold. Not too curvy. She’s exactly what they want. Warriors kneel. Princes court her with quiet devotion. Warlords promise entire galaxies at her feet. And the cameras capture every moment as the galaxy watches six human women navigate a villa filled with powerful alien bachelors searching for their perfect mate.

But choosing a mate isn’t easy when two very different aliens are fighting for Emma’s heart.
Prince Kadran is thoughtful, intelligent, and the kind of man a woman could build a future with.
Warlord Zul is dangerous, commanding, and the kind of male who makes Emma forget every rule she’s ever lived by. The cameras are rolling.

The stakes are rising. And somewhere among the warlords, princes, and warriors competing for her heart… Emma might just find the one who proves she was never too much at all.

Welcome to Star Date Island.
Where love isn’t just real…

…it’s intergalactic.

Let me start by thanking the author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book to read. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

I had a lot of fun with this read, because I hadn't read an alien romance with this premise before! Trashy tv shows are great and when you combine them with aliens it made for such a fun time, especially as we got to explore the 'behind the scenes' of making a trashy dating show.

Zul was so funny because he was a proper warrior, manly man and he had so much to learn throughout the book and needed self reflection to change to be a good male for a mate and to be a kinder male. However, I will say that I love a good alphahole in my non human romances and he hit the spot with that, and it made his development even better.

Emma was kind and friendly and willing to support the others and stand up for herself which I loved so much. I also loved that she wasn't ashamed of her size and embraced it as a part of who she was, that really was so positive and beautiful to see in a romance! I do wish that we knew more about Emma and her past, as it feels like we didn't really get to know who she was outside of a few interests and what she shared about her experiences of being plus sized on earth. I would have just like that extra connection with her.

The smut wasn't anything insane like in some other books, but it still hit the spot and was enjoyable. Zul did not disappoint in how much he was in love, and how much he was ready to learn and satisfy his mate (WHO HE WAS DOWN BAD FOR WHICH I LOVE IN MY ALIEN ROMANCES).

Overall this was an enjoyable and fun alien romance, and I can't wait for the rest of the books because all of the characters featured were great!

I was given an ARC copy of this book by BookSirens and am leaving this review voluntarily!

I really enjoyed this book! As someone who reads a lot of alien romance books, I definitely think this book holds up comparatively. It’s one of the better ones I’ve read for sure. The concept is one that I always find entertaining. I love trashy TV shows and this matches that level of “trash” that I love. I am concerned for future books getting repetitive because they happen along the same timeline but I think the author has enough variability to make it work. And it helps that Alanna is next and she was not with the group for a while so her story will feel different from Emma’s.

All that being said, I think Emma and Zul were the right characters to start this series. Emma goes along with things quickly but she’s not a pushover and I enjoyed watching the way she handled things. The very beginning of the book when she’s with her coworkers doesn’t quite match up with her personality as soon as she lands in the show but after that her growth and character is consistent and funny. I like her personality and how she communicates with the other contestants. In that way, she makes a good intro to the series because she’s friendly with everyone. I do question whether or not she actually misses home or if her parents are still alive or anything. I like that she isn’t living in her past but I wish there was more of a reason like if she truly had no one left for her on earth, then that would feel more realistic.

Zul is an interesting character aswell. I thought at first he was furry from the cover art and I’m glad he isn’t. I do love a man with tusks and I like all his piercings but I wish he was a bit more alien than just the tusks and nose. Maybe he was a safer intro alien but I would liked a bit more. I do love his character growth. It was probably more optimistic than realistic but it did seem believable enough and I liked his moments on the cliff where he really reflected. Those actions were great. I loved how he was a predictable alphahole but worked to be better because of Emma and then continued because he saw it had merit to be more of a community.

The smut wasn’t crazy but it was very hot and well written. I love the alien romances because of how captivating they find their woman/mate and Zul did not disappoint. Their first scene was earlier on than I thought it would be and it surprised me in the best way. I love this aspect of the story, although I still think some more interesting alien anatomy could come into play. But I’m a sucker for tusks and obsessed men so I was still very satisfied!

If you like alien romances this one skips out on some common tropes like translation issues but it still has the clash of cultures along with the reality TV show premise, which I adore. I think it’s a very enjoyable lighthearted read and would recommend it to anyone who likes alien romance.

I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

If you are a Love Island fan and love alien romance then this is 1000% the book for you.

Emma accidently signs up for an alien reality dating show after being pressured by her mean girl coworkers. She wakes up in a villa with other kidnapped(?) humans to find out she is there to find her mate. Zul is the youngest warlord in his planets history and the ultimate alpha bro and he is looking for his mate. Kadran is a wealthy prince and a total gentleman who needs a mate. Emma has to navigate these relationships to ultimately make a choice between her love interests while being filmed and participating in challenges.

The world that Marit build is spot on for Love Island fans. From the challenges to the behind the scenes production it feels true to the source. I love the little glimpse of the after show we get between sections. Emma’s confessionals were used as such an interesting story device and were some of my favorite moments.

Emma is a fat baddie that has worked hard to unlearn societies biased beliefs about her body and her worth due to the body she lives in. In my experience existing in a fat body, this is such a realistic representation of how fat people are treated and I totally see myself in some of her thoughts and feelings. I appreciate the representation and seeing myself in her character. Emma does love herself and is confident the majority of the time but has moments where that faulters. That is so real. I struggle with the part of her storyline that her true acceptance of herself comes from her mates acceptance of her body. I see the other side of the coin, that it’s more Zul wanting her to see herself the way that he sees her and I love that. I just wish that this trope wouldn’t be the reality for women but I am very aware that it is real for many.

Zul has such a great story arc. The growth in his character is so interesting to me. I love that it seems like the growth if for Emma but as Zul becomes more vulnerable you can tell that opening his mind and worldview is really to benefit all of those around him and particularly his tribe. This is such a wonderful representation of what relationships are. It’s bringing out the best in each other and making positive growth to meet each others needs.

Kadran and Emma make sense to me in that Emma is clearly seeking safety and he represents a very safe choice. He is kind, calm, and a gentleman but he presents no challenge to Emma and it’s interesting to see her response to the relationship.

I’m obsessed with Emma’s girl gang and honestly her having to say goodbye to them, while overall positive and happy, had me tearing up. Her finding genuine female friendships was such a highlight of the story. I can say I’m so anxious to read each of the ladies (and James’s) stories. It feels like Alanna’s story might be a touch darker than Emma and Zul and I’m here for it.

Okay, so first of all I love the idea of aliens trying to find mates among the humans and made a dating show dedicated to it. And the humans were kind of kidnapped from Earth. This book I would say is a light read, there’s no heavy elements or topics discussed deep on. Even so, I wish it would be a bit more thorough for the characters and the plots.

I can see in the beginning Emma was more passive and eventually gained more confidence as she found herself on another planet. The problem I had with this is how quickly her personality switched. I’m not saying someone could not be confident and unconfident at the same time, but putting a bit more reluctance or more hint of her unconfident side in the beginning to insinuate her inner conflict would be much better. Because right now only Zul had a major character development while Emma, even though she has her own challenge, wasn't enough and not satisfying. She needs her own peak moment but most of the time she is being overshadowed by Zul’s.

For the whole dating show concept, this is personally pointed to the show producer, your show is suck. I get the idea of scripted shows, biases, fake personalities, which are definitely something that is true in the world of production. But the hell with the producer, are you doing an awards show to be prime and proper? This isn’t a formal show, it’s a reality show and the way it was directed was too boring. If I was the director or producer I would definitely want to keep the drama, the reaction, the twist and even make evil editing to make it more exhilarating. And if there’s none of those, I would purposely want to make fake dramas to make things spicier.

And then, I know the whole book is about Emma and Zul but I wish the orange snail and the blue alien would talk more about the other contestants as well. I can see they did that in the beginning but there’s one specific part of the story that solely focuses on Emma and Zul only. It would be much better if we could get a glimps of updates of the other contestants as well to make the show more real and we can keep on tracking their progress as well. I don’t think you want to rewind time again just to write the other love stories for the future books right?

This I guess is my own pet peeves, I don’t really like the over use of ALL CAPS in writing, especially when it’s a long sentence, even though they were shouting. I don’t know, it just feels like the writing has become less and less quality. And it doesn’t sound good when reading. Instead maybe use more exaggeration to describe their fury more.

I am a sucker for alien books and for books that center around trashy reality love shows. So when I had the opportunity to read Falling for Love, I took it.

I want to get out my negative feelings first. I did not like the FMC (Emma) at all. I think my biggest negative take away is that the female participants in the show had such high expectations that many of the males could not reach them. Look, I get that these women have never knew aliens existed, but these alien males have never interacted with humans either. The women, at least Emma, provided no grace. In fact, through most of the book, it felt like only Emma's needs and wants and expectations were important. Emma would constantly snap at and be mean to Zul. Sure, Zul was a strong, dominant, arrogant, male, but he at least took the time to make changes to himself and learn about human females. This misunderstanding about mates was the other issue. She understood what a mate meant to Kadran but was unforgiving to Zul and his "arrogance" which was really him just identifying her as his mate. This constant battle goes on for the whole book and I found myself hating Emma and unable to relate to her.

I did really like how fake it made the reality show feel. I feel like it brought a lot of authenticity to the story. There are multiple stories happening at one time, you get snippets of others in the book, but it really focuses mainly on Emma and eventually Zul. I also enjoyed the side characters. If I continue the series, my hope is that they provide a little more grace to the males, but we will see. I liked that each FMC shows enough about who they are that you should feel connected to them already by the time you get to their book. Same with the males. Some of the males are just kind of bleh, but there are males that have that main character energy and it will be fun to see those stories and interactions to play out. Finally, I enjoy a story that has the world building spread throughout the story instead of all at once. It helped the story flow and honestly, I like when stories do not lag from the get go. This story got right to the point in the first chapter or two.

I love a good alien romance, a feisty FMC (who may or may not have some personal issues), a alpha male of a species. Add to that the guilty pleasure of watching reality tv and I had to read this book.
I was selected to recieve and ARC for this book and I could not have been happier!

Emma's so-called "friends" sign her up for a dating show to find true love (becausehow else will she find someone). Except they did not read the fine print and it takes place on a different planet (In a Galaxy Far Far away... sorry my nerdy side showed up).

Emma finds herself on a whole new planet, has to conted with a slew of things not excluding a reality tv-show host who has an allergy to clothing, strange "men" who are trying to catch her attention, and her own insecurities.

Zul is a warlord on his planet, the best warlord, there never was a better warlord, he is fantastic at everything.
He signed up to find his mate and bring her home.
Well joke is on you Zul, humans don' have mates and like to decide and do things for themselves.

I have to say it doesn't happen often that at one point I wanted to throat punch and MMC and the next he made me go "aaawww".
But Zul really made me feel it.

This is not a standard "fall in love" story. There are layers, there is mental health representation, there are redemption arcs.

It is the 1st book in this new series, and if the other "housemates" are characters for the coming books I am already invested in them and I want to know more.

Thank you to the lovely author for providing this e-arc!

Emma and five other human women sign up for a dating reality tv show, without being completely aware of it being in another galaxy. After signing up, they wake up in another galaxy at the next day, and from then, they'll have to navigate costumes completely different from theirs. That cultural shock only becomes bigger when they are introduced to the different princes, warlords and warriors from different galaxies that will try to win them over with the hope of them being their fated mates. Emma, the protagonist, will be torn between what she should want, a smart and shy prince, and what she truly desires, a warlord who enfuriates her but makes her feel more passion than ever before. Who will she choose?

This book was entertaining and made me laugh out loud more times than I can count. The characters were easy to root for, even when they acted like alphas with bad attitude (like the MMC, Zul) and I was invested in who the women found as their ideal partner. I adored all the female characters in this book (except Azula) because they are not afraid to speak their minds and make their voices be heard.
However, I slowly lost interest around the 60% mark and it started to feel less entertaining and more repetitive for me.
I still recommend it if you want a lighthearted read to just laugh and relax.

As a lover of reality tv, this was a hit for me. It took me a while to feel the chemistry between FMC Emma and MMC Zul, but I loved the interactions between all the contestants. Emma and Zul had a huge amount of character growth and even the side characters were funny and interesting. I enjoyed the world building and setting descriptions (gorgeous alien planet), the after show was a glorious addition. I would read another game show book in this series, or follow another contestant.

Emma is signed up to a dating show by her so called friends, who aren’t the nicest to her. Little does she realise she’s abducted from Earth and ends up on Star Date Island.

Powerful alien men are looking for their fated mates and Emma ends up paired with Kadran who’s a prince and Zul who’s a warlord vying for her.

Zul knew from the moment he say Emma she was meant for him and no one else and we see through out the story even though they have a few mishaps, his heart is in the right place, she’s everything to him💕 Emma can’t keep her eyes off him but she has to make a decision to risk her heart for Zul or play it safe with Kadran.

I loved how reading the story was like watching Love Island, where the contestants have to pick who’s the best choice for them. The undeniable simmering chemistry between Emma and Zul throughout and I loved the banter between and how communication is so important.

Expect
💕Alien Dating Show
💕Curvy girl worship
💕Protective Possessive Hero
💕Fated Mates
💕Forced Public Romance
💕Warlord Vs Prince

Let's start with the elephant in the room- the cover art for this ARC is horrifying. It took me a while to block the image from my mind so that I didn't picture that nightmare every time Zul showed up.

The story overall is fun, if very VERY silly. I felt like the main character didn't know who she was, wobbling between insecurity and confidence. Sometimes in the way we all do, not always thinking the best of ourselves, but sometimes in the vein of the author not being consistent in the portrayal. I did end up liking her in the end, especially when she stood up for herself and what she deserved.

Zul has an impressive amount of character growth, and I appreciated his comeuppance.

The secondary characters were well written. There were plenty of platonic relationships, giving what could have been a too-goofy and shallow book some depth and interest.

I'll likely read the next in the series. There are several characters I'd enjoy reading more about.

Emma gets signed up for a reality dating show by some not-so-nice coworkers during a night out after work. The next morning, she wakes up in a nice mansion with random people to learn that the reality TV show is set on another planet, and the guys she'll be dating? They're not human.

This book is for you if you love:
💗 Plus-sized FMCs
💗 Spice
💗 Aliens
💗 He cums without touching
💗 Fated Mates
💗 Reality shows
💗 Piercings

This was an enjoyable read! It had a unique plotline, so overall, I was intrigued enough to keep reading. I found Emma annoying at times because of her unwillingness to be accommodating to Zul and Zul for just being an alpha bro. But they did seem to redeem themselves when they had some alone time, and after Emma got over herself for being attracted to Zul. Zul was really funny when he got over being upset that Emma was "dating" other men. (Hello? That's the point of the show)

I'm not sure if I will be continuing with the series, but I had a fun time.

Thank you to Book Case Media and Marit Prins for allowing me to advance review!

Sweet, silly, spicy and with the most delicious humor!

Emma, our plus sized fmc is tricked by her mean co-workers to sign for a reality show.
Little did she knew that it would be in another galaxy.
Zul ,the warlord mmc is arrogant, entitled but also sweet and one look was enough to feel that she was his mate. The hard part was to make her feel it too.

Marit Prins does an incredibly good blend of romance, spice and humor making me cackle like a maniac all along the book.
Annnd really hot spice(Zul is pierced for her pleasure!!!)
No spoilers, just a teaser: Other contestant comes with the idea of "Vagina 101" where the aliens have to prove their worth....not going to say more just that lead to hilarious scenes.
Loved that Emma and the other contestants bonded into a true friendship and support each other.
The plot is rich and imaginative and promisses to lead to an amazing series and I can't wait to see what's coming!
Go for it, you wont be disapointed!

This was such a fun and unique take on alien romance with the dating show twist. The premise immediately stands out, and it fully leans into the mix of drama, romance, and intergalactic chaos in an entertaining way.
Emma is easy to root for, especially with her journey of realizing she is not “too much” but exactly right as she is. That theme is woven throughout the story and adds a nice emotional layer beneath the more playful setup.
The love interests bring very different energies, which makes the choice feel meaningful. The contrast between the more steady, thoughtful connection and the more intense, dangerous pull keeps the tension high and the story engaging.
The setting and concept carry the story well, though at times it leans more into the fun and drama than deeper exploration. Still, it delivers exactly what it promises.
Overall, this is a really enjoyable read if you want something light, a little dramatic, and completely escapist with a fresh twist on alien romance.

I read this book and am leaving this review as part of an ARC read.

I was thoroughly entertained while reading this book! The dating-show premise was fun to read about and I enjoyed learning about Emma and seeing her personality show with the relationships and connections she made. I found it a little bit confusing keeping all of the names and characters straight at first since you learn so many characters all at once. I think having better paced introductions would make the beginning easier to follow along- but I understand why Emma would meet so many people all at once given the situation. I am a sucker for a little love triangle so I really enjoyed that plot point and liked seeing how Emma’s feelings evolved for her two options! I do wish we got some more depth into some of the other characters but hopefully we get to learn about them through the rest of the series. I would definitely read the second book once it comes out!

This was a nice surprise. I'm not a huge fan of this type of reality show, so I wasn't sure I'd like the book, but I ended up enjoying it very much. I loved the way author showed the reality show and I was waiting for every next date and elimination like it was actually on TV lol

I loved that Emma didn't let the men walk all over her. She set her boundaries and no one was allowed past them. The MMC had to change very much in order to get her to like him, that was another great point. It was slow burn, but there was never a dull moment.

I also liked that all the girls (and the male contestants too) were friends. There were no petty squabbles, no "mean girl" energy, no "I'm better than you". They were all just 100% supportive of each other, which was great.

I can't wait for the next book!

I was super lucky and was able to get an ARC of this book, and it was so good!

At tye start of the book I was also like Emma, and didnt really like Zul! That kind of man isn't really my type, so I was rooting for Kadran. But as the story went on i found myself liking him more and more, just like Emma! The author did a really great job at making me like him as the story went on!

I also was wondering if some of the bad dates these girls went on were direct experiences the author had! Cause really?? A cage fight for a first date! That definitely sounds like a date a male would take a girl on here!

And lastly I just loved the little chibi versions of the characters! They were just so cute! And made me so happy when I first started reading!

I can't wait for the next books in this series!

I received this as an arc but I'm not obligated to leave this review. I ran to apply for this arc and I'm glad I did. First I enjoyed the banter and the story. There wasn'tuch smut in the begining but the actual story was engaging enough. When the spice hit I was unprepared. Although a sandy beach... However it was raining pretty heavily so I'm thinking it probably wouldn't be to bad. I wasn't sure if there were going to be multi povs single dual etc. I wasn't even sure who the MMC was at first. However there was no mention of any sort of procreation and it was noticable enough to catch my eye. Alot of books don't even mention procreating but I felt like with this book it would been beneficial. I mean at least the author made it clear they actually bathed. I. Loved the detail we got !

This was a fun romp with deep heart. A group of earth women sign up for a dating show but it turns out to be on another planet with alien men.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

All the humans (all women except for one man who was picked up accidentally) are interesting and I can’t wait for the books about Alanna (who tried running away), Joey (who had to get over and addiction cold turkey) and Katie the nurse.

I really enjoyed the main character learning to appreciate herself and also realizing who was best for her and that sometimes being upfront with what you need and what you want gets you a HEA.

I can’t wait to read the next books in the series

Ahhh I loved this book very much! Thank you so much for the ARC copy! This is my honest review.

The whole intergalactic dating show thing pulled me in immediately, but it was Emma that made me stay <3 Watching her go from feeling like she’s too much to realizing she’s exactly what these men want was very satisfying!

And the love interests… Zul was just chaos in the best way and I adore him!

It’s so much fun. I'm a sucker for good banter and this was ridiculous in a very good way, and just really easy to get sucked into. Definitely one of those easy, light reads that sucks you right in.

Can't wait for the next one!!

Thank you to the author for the arc!

I absolutely loved the premise of this book, which is definitely the reason I wanted to read it. Alien dating show? Sign me up!

I think the execution wasn't fully there unfortunately, but it was still an enjoyable read. The writing and dialogue wasn't the greatest, the plot could have been expanded on, and the flow of the story I think could have had a little better momentum to it.

I did enjoy Zul, the side characters were great, and the dating show itself was really fun to read. I think a lot of people are going to enjoy this one, I definitely did reading it!

IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK! 😍 NEED MORE BOOKS LIKE THIS ASAP!! 🔥🔥

I'm so ready to read all the books in this series & know the destiny of all the 'STAR DATE CANDIDATES', especially James'.
Emma & Zul really have a perfect chemistry (Undeniable Romantic tension & Agonisingly slow SLOWBURN) 🤭🫠🔥

I can read this book a thousand times & wouldn't even get bored!! 🫡🔥🔥

MY FAV SCENE:
A huge bird dropping its poop all over Zul......OMGGG!!! 🤣🤣 That's just hilarious asf !!
(Bro took it lightly, didn't even react much)

Also her choosing Drakkar for her first date 😂 Everything is going wrong on emma's date & this guy is working out in the gym, jealous asf 😂

I enjoyed reading this ARC copy very much! This is my honest review without spoilers.
I loved Emma's boldness. She's relatable despite the intergalactic setting, and seeing her grow into herself was amazing.
The banter is fun and made me laugh out loud. It's an easy read, not too heavy on the topics but very engaging from start to finish. The friendships between the girls is another thing that made this book 5* for me.
Overall I just loved it and I can't wait for book 2!

“Falling for Love” by Marit Prins
-A sweet, silly sci-fi romance with a wildly creative premise and laugh-out-loud humor. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
Emma’s journey from insecurity to self-worth isn’t always smooth, but her growth shines by the end. Zul’s transformation from arrogant warlord to devoted partner adds satisfying emotional depth.
Fun, spicy, and surprisingly heartfelt, this one blends chaos and charm into an entertaining escape.

This book made me excited to read again! I have been struggling in a book slump and I read this book in less than 24hrs. I am not a huge reality tv fan, but I think this story really captured the feel of those types of shows. I loved the book. I only wish that we got to see more couple views during the story, I figure we will see them in future books. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I really love this book! I'm a sucker for shows like love island and this just was so satisfying! You get sucked into a different world and all the different aliens were perfectly described. It was easy to read, and written for a lazy night in bed. The spice was was spicy 🔥 and I can't wait for the other one to come out. Especially about a certain someone who escaped the island and was brought back by a baddy alien.
It's one of the best alien books I've read.
Would recommend for sure!

This was a funny, entertaining sexy read. Despite being bullied all her life about her size Emma is not taking any shift even when she finds herself in the most extraordinary galactic dating show.
