The show must go on! Just when Mele Keahi thinks her new life in North Destiny Bay is settling down, everything turns against her. First she suspects the detective she’s taken a shine to has a new lady on the line, then she finds another body. The police captain is growing suspicious, her ghost is getting pushy, and she rashly agrees to adopt an uncouth parrot. Meanwhile she’s trying to manage a Christmas Pageant. If it all falls apart, the town will go broke. Then--there goes her salary!
Ghost on Duty is the second book in the Destiny Bay Cozy Mystery Series. The books in this series have minor themes that run through them all, but each story can stand on its own.
Wow, Mele can really get into a lot a trouble. I don't know why she doesn't take care of herself more properly because she is always in the middle of the murderers sight and her ghosts are always having to help her out so she doesn't get hurt! Although at least now her hunky police detective is showing more interest in her, but at the same time it kind of seems like he's trying not to feel anything for her! And I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!
The problem with mediocre books is that people buy them, particularly when it comes to cosy mysteries. There's a tried and tested formula and as long as the writer follows it he or she really can't go wrong. No cussin', no sex, nothing that would get Grannny's knickers in a twist, a cast of colourful characters and Bob's your uncle. “Ghost on Duty”, second in the 'Destiny Bay Cosy' series, is a good example of the above. It's well written but I couldn't get involved with it at any level. I did finish it but only by gritting my teeth. 2 Stars.
Mele is at it again...discovering dead bodies. As she follows the clues and gets further in her quest, she soon discovers a fight for her life on her hands. Enter her favorite cop who saves the day...because Aunt Janey told him where she was??? More fun awaits me~
I found this incredibly difficult to get through. It didn't hold my attention and seemed more like a high school writing assignment than a professional novel. All of the elements for a good tale were there, it just didn't resonate for me.
This was another good read in the series. I will admit these aren't great but they still are enjoyable. Mele finds another body. Of course the police chief is suspicious of her. On top of that she has a lot going on in her life. So there is always something going on.
There were a few continuity issues in this one. I still finished it, and it does feel like we're getting more of Mele, Dante/Aunty, and Roy, but I was taken out of the story too often by those issues and some of the writing. Undecided if I should read the third or move on entirely.
I was never much for cozy mysteries but I truly love the books I've read so far in this series. I'm horrible at leaving reviews but I really enjoy the actual mystery and all of the characters.
I've been sucked into the series. I just can't pass up a quick mystery that's not too scary, not too tricky to solve, and involves a ghost here or there. Ready for the next case!
A good read. Not great and only around 84% of the page count. Also it really never answered what happened to the guns. The christmas event is going forward but one of the residents is threatening a law suit to stop it. She has to go out there to try and talk him round. However he is lying at the bottom of the cliff at his house. With the Chief wanting her to be the culprit and her detective giving her the cold shoulder, she is left to try and clear herself. Can she find out what a developer wants with the land. Can she find the killer as now a second body has been found and her detective has been shot? Will the Christmas event go on as planned? The storyline was good but the way it came across was weak.
Who killed Ned? Mele once again has gotten involved by finding his dead body. This suspenseful story continues with the police chief thinking Mele did it. Will Melee be able to figure out who did it? Will her ghosts be able to save her from the killer? Read and enjoy this exciting tale.
So far I've only read two of J.D. Winters Destiny Bay series but I guarantee I will read them all. If you like interesting, quirky, slightly romantic cozy mysteries then this series is for you:). Mele and her friends and family are so likeable I'm glad there are plenty more to read, because spending time with them makes this reader very happy!
This was a good book, but I kept feeling like I was missing pieces. I had read book one, and in reading this book, it sort of felt like I had missed a book. That aside, it was a cute mystery, that kept me guessing til the end.
I really do like these books the characters are cute and the mysteries are too ... I just have some problems with inconsistencies in the story from book one into book two ... names are different and well just little things it does get aggravating
These books are great. Once you start reading its hard to put down. Once you finish one you have to get the next, so that you can find out what is going to happen next. Highly recommend.
Ghost on duty is the second of the series, again it's a quick read full of mystery, humour and dead body. We learn more about the characters in this book which I enjoyed. I couldn't put this book down, I had to find out who the killer was! Another light, fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed. #2OCCAB
Another fun read from the author. I noticed at one point she mentioned the Detectives name and then said she didn't know what it was. Sometimes I just like a fun quick read.
Another thoroughly enjoyable read. I like the characters in this series, including the ghostly! I will be reading the other books in this series, asap!
