Rate this book
This is a war with a difference, but it could not have been fought without tho knowledge of all the wars which preceded it.

There is a Sarge in all wars, and this one was no exception as the crusty, gutsy soldier urged his men on to greater glory. Pvt. E-2 Ernest Youngman slugs it out along with the best of them while he harbors the desire to write tho Great American War Novel.

But there's more than one side in any war, and WORLD WAR III is being fought on the Chinese main-land whore the forces are mustered by the legendary Lt. Commander Ju-Chao, survivor of the Long March.

Neither side, though, reckoned with the force of Squad C-323, killer chimpanzees Kong, Son of Kong, Bonzo, Sgt. Joe Young— whose battle action would turn the tide of war and once again make tho world safe for something.

Great read! I was devouring books in this genre at the time. This one stood out then, as it does in my memory now. Well written, well paced... some continuity issues that slow the flow of the story, but completely forgotten by the last chapter.

I read this for the first time in 1977 at the tender age of 11. John Stanley wrote an epic tale of violence, horror & sex that begins with a napalm attack on a Chinese village, includes a graphic 4-on-1 sex scene, and (wait for it....) Combat trained KILLER CHIMPANZEES!!! I understand Mr. Stanley is somewhat embarrassed by this novel now, but it has stood as a personal favorite of mine for as long as Star Wars has been around.... It's a wonder I didn't grow up completely twisted...

This is a lovely little nearly-forgotten gonzo science fiction novel. It lacks polish and hasn't aged as well as some of its contemporaries, but it's a full-throttle, no-holds-barred, unapologetic crazy, thrill ride of a page-turner. Damn the torpedoes as well as the mixed-metaphors. If McDonald's sold books this would have been their specialty in the Bi-centennial year.

This is NOT a good book. BUT a ride for sure. Some very unique and detailed description but the end felt weak and rushed. Also there is one star only for the monkey soldiers.
