Book 2 in the Butcher of Black Lake series. You do not need to read the books in order, however it makes the most sense to do so.

This book is perfect for our romantic suspense readers, who enjoy vigilante justice alongside a slow burn romance. I absolutely loved this second instalment to the Butcher of Black Lake. As always Millie's book are filled with dark themes and morally grey choices. I absolutely love our main characters, the sibling vibe between Theo and Clara is so sweet. I found the plot fast paced, engaging and the tension in the romance aspect was giving everything. It touches on heavy topics so proceed with caution as always and read the trigger warnings
I’m obsessed! This was such a wild ride and I loved every single second of it. It’s got some seriously confronting themes with domestic violence and the effect not only on the victims but the professionals and family members that have to deal with the fallout. And the underlying love story was a sweet counterpoint to the darkness. I got so invested in Theo and Maeve. I wanted her to stay at the end. It’s another fantastic read from Millie St Graves. And I liked the subtle references to Meat Cute as well.
The premise is interesting. I love the idea of a clandestine organization that handles dealing with abusers. The concept is brilliant. The execution of the idea is pretty good. The abusive relationship and the helplessness Theo felt watching his sister repeat the pattern over and over was exceptionally well done.
Where the story fell short for me was the relationship between Maeve and Theo. While we have a very good picture of who Theo is, I didn’t find there was enough to let he know who Maeve was outside of her job. It made it hard to feel like the relationship was more than physical.
I enjoyed it but it will fade from memory quickly.
The second book in the butcher or black lake series and I love Maeve! She’s a badass female and they way her and Theo have a connection instantly, I love it. Theo is the perfect book boyfriend because he cares so much for his sister and would do anything to protect her from her abusive husband that he calls the hot line because he doesn’t want to see his sister dead. In come Maeve who not only gets her job done but also meets the perfect guy for her!
